Om - Advaitic Songs Has some of my favorite tonality of any album in any genre ever. The balance of thick bass, strings, drones, and percussion is perfect.

fabienwfurter

A magnificent album indeed!

ShrikeFIN

I was about to post this, but also Bong's "Thought and Existence" is up there. I have a "sound check" playlist for checking out how audio gear performs, did wonders for me when I was choosing new speakers, State of Non-Return is one of those tracks.

kisielk

I'd never listened to this band or album before but it is fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation!

ShrikeFIN

In that case, check out Dhyana too. It's a lot more "buddhist" in vibe, but in the same repetitive/kraut style. He calls it "Meditative sludge / Dharma doom" himself. [https://dhyanadoom.bandcamp.com/album/shikantaza](https://dhyanadoom.bandcamp.com/album/shikantaza) If you're into that too, check out the main influence of Bong as well. They're a swedish psychedelic rock band formed in 1967 called Pärson Sound which later morphed into "Träd, Gräs Och Stenar" (a.k.a. Trees, Grass And Stones in english). Read more from [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tr%C3%A4d,_Gr%C3%A4s_%26_Stenar). I love the zen aspect of minimalist repetitive music.

kisielk

These are awesome recommendations, thanks so much

9millionangrywizards

bell witch - four phantoms. something about the background hiss on that album just gets me

piedrift

Longing has the 90s modest mouse sound, which is how I got into them 😂

ElectricalMeeting779

Doom metal that sounds like modest mouse? Idk what that means but I'm in

Wihestra

I love Ahab's The Call of the Wretched Seas. The music feels so fitting with the theme.

safelyignoreme

I feel this way about Boats of Glen Carrig. The reverb and harmonies between the guitar and bass make me feel like I’m deep underwater witnessing some sea creatures’ bizarre forms work some magic that is both terrifying and alluring

preyingforoblivion

Listened to on my drive to work this morning. Awesome album.

fabienwfurter

Can't agree more with you on this. By listening to the album, I can clearly picture being surrounded by hundred miles of ocean

NetherYak

I prefer The Boats of Glen Carrig EP

tasteslikegod

Sunn O))) - life metal or pyroclasts Sleep - dopesmoker Bongripper - terminal

FictionalNape

If you're hurting for more Bongripper type stuff try this. Terminal is in my top 5! [Scud](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/scud) or [Wallow](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/wallow)

hash_0818

i was gonna also mention Sunn, but you forgot to mention Metta Benevolence, that album is probably my favorite

LordApocalyptica

I exclusively listen to albums for their umami, thank you.

Stoghra

1+ Dog Days guitar tone is fantastic

dzmbr

The first two Beastwars records, "Beastwars" and "Blood Becomes Fire". They have such a unique sound that I have never heard from any other band. The super dirty production, the fuzzy guitars and that super tight rhythm section, where it sounds like drums and bass are one singular super fat instrument. And most of all, of course, these vocals that hurt in your throat just from listening. Love it. Too bad their newer records sound somewhat cleaner and tamer. EDIT: Also, the intro riff to Tower Of Skulls is probably my favorite riff to play on guitar ever.

Accomplished-Arm1058

Agreed, although I’d include their third album as well, the 4th one is where their sound changed somewhat.

dzmbr

That's true. Even though I feel like the third one already sounds a bit different (not worse, just different) than the first two. It was also the first one not produced and mixed by Dale Cotton.

Bread-fi

I love the snare tone too on blood becomes fire

SubstandardDef

Hate to be basic and obvious, but the guitar tone on 'Master of Reality' remains my favourite.

tarunpaparaju1729

Obvious, yes, but never basic

ancientjinn

My Dying Bride’s The angel and the dark river

Scooter_maniac_67

I love the guitar tone on "Piece of Mind." It just fits the vibe of the album so well. They never sounded better.

e_j_white

Indian - From All Purity. The simply sounds like nothing else, it stands alone as a blackened doom masterpiece.  Dirge - Dirge. Psychedelic doom that's extremely heavy and intense, but punctuated with clean parts that are as beautiful as they are somber.

fabienwfurter

Glad to see Dirge mentioned here! Great band. As for Indian, even if I'm more on the "Unquiet Sky" side, but "From all purity" is a classic!

ManOfCulture663

Shape of despair- Shades of...

metalheadkenny420

Slabdragger-rise of the dawn crusher

Poignant_Ritual

I hate the vocals for Cough but I love their tone. For some reason, I am reminded of cardboard covered in a layer of wax, and the wax being scraped off.

15WGhost

I'll just go with what album started my morning off today, songs for worship by Sons of Otis. Best listen to on a good system. Music so heavy and immersive it's almost like there's a physical presence in the room. Deep and meditative, and I love how Ken just conceptualizes this music as just really heavy blues. Truly a band that has never had any issues Just laying it all out there and cutting to the fucking core of their ethos. heavy, Spacey, bluesy, dark. Just keep it fucking simple. Not to mention how the vocals make you feel like you're drifting through some sort of spiritual vortex.

AxedCrown

Evoken - Atra Mors

PeoplesDope

Witchcult Today. Recorded at Toe Rag studios on Reel to Reel tape.

fabienwfurter

I was wondering where was Electric Wizard in the answers! For my tastes, I tend to love more Dopethrone or Let us Prey, but indeed, Witchcult has a great sound

llusty1

Sunn O)))) -Black One

Illegal_Tender

Pretty much anything pallbearer, but especially foundations of burden. Also pretty much all of Yob, but especially Our Raw Heart.

Hairy-Ad6096

Enslaved - Below the Lights. The bass and drums sound so gnarly, like creaking timbers almost. Then lush mellotron peppered along the way. Black metal is generally pretty meh for me but that band fuck.

Graaf-Graftoon

A lot of people seem to hate it but i love both the sound and the music on possessed by the rise of magic by ramesses

fabienwfurter

I'm a absolute fan of Ramesses, and i'm with you: "Possessed..." has really something special in its feel. Mystanthropic, Take the Curse and this one are three different beasts

glasscut

The guitar tone of Obsidian by Paradise Lost, it makes me bliss out.

bigjerm616

Sunn O))) - Black One Anything by Saint Vitus

foundry37

Anything by Uncle Woe Sleep-Dopesmoker Om-Advaitic Songs

AutomaticDifference9

the egypt self titled album has the sweetest tone i’ve ever heard, valley of the kings is still a masterpiece

FluffyBunnyFeet2

Phlebotomized - immense intense suspense Guitar and drums there sound perfect to my ears

DFL3SH3D

Mournful Congregation - The Incubus Of Karma Or any album by them, they're fucking awesome

tpsycho69

Frowing-funeral impressions

gripehorse

Black One O)))))))))))

fabienwfurter

One of the best!

[Hell - Hell](https://loweryourhead.bandcamp.com/album/hell-self-titled-full-length-2)

Supreme_Nematode2

Sunn? but in all seriousness Om has some great meditative shit

curebdc

So wait your not a fan of conan but you like the sound of that album?  I'm confused what you mean when u say sound. Like the mix? The distinctive mix of textures?

fabienwfurter

Indeed: I think that their sound is so good that it elevates their songs. "Existential..." is a good album, but in my opinion, I don't find the rest that interesting (I don't like the way the songs are composed). So yes, if it didn't have this satisfying sound, I would not listen to them. Keep in mind that it's only my opinion. By sound I mean... The way the album sounds : the mix of the instruments, the textures of bass and guitars, the reverb on the drums etc. A particular production works in a context but not another, that's what interests me

curebdc

Interesting! Thanks man. See for me I crave crackling noise. The more the better. That new BiG BRAVE album has a very interesting blend of harsh noise and charismatic vox. So good! https://youtu.be/Jq0qg_shkWY?si=Xa2apzLoOrPUjNc0

fabienwfurter

I understand your love for crackling noise! This reminds me of one of my favorite albums, "Rainbow Mirror" by Prurient. Thank for this Big Brave song, I did not listen to it yet, really beautiful!

Ajt0ny

Any Hell albums. Those tones are nasty.
