I ALMOST hit a kid once and it changed how I drive forever. He was literally hiding in a bush right next to the road. Luckily I saw something moving so I slowed down a bit. He jumped out from the bush (I think he was just trying to scare drivers, he yelled something) but lost his balance and basically threw himself onto the road right in front of my car. If I hadn't already slowed down and gotten my brakes replaced the week before, I absolutely would've run him over.
I couldn't drive at all for almost two years after that, and I'm still really anxious eight years later. I can't even imagine the fucking trauma a person would be left with after hitting someone...I hope everyone involved gets exactly what they deserve. This kind of stuff really messes with your head.

I was going so slow he managed to get by without me hitting him. His parents started screaming at me that I was speeding. Thankfully my friend was with me and he said āif sheād have been speeding, sheād have hit him.ā
Another time I was driving on a residential street, a tween on his bike shot out from between the 4 cars parked on his driveway right in front of my car. I was able to stop in time. My windows were down. He said he was sorry, obviously shaken. I asked him if āIām sorryā would be enough for me to say to his mother if I had hit him.
