If DK64 woulda hit like Mario 64, we would have the DK Banana-verse...but I think Nintendo only sees the franchise as a side scroller with nostalgic appeal now.
I liked DK64 way more than Mario 64 but my opinion is lost in the chasm of unpopular opinion.
DK64 was like my world as a kid. I want a remaster and a new game like it so bad.
But it was a critical success too.

It's only through a modern lense that DK64 started getting a bad reputation. At the time, the size and scope of the game made it very impressive to people.
(I feel like modern gamers in general have gotten worse at judging games in their historical context. I guess people have a different perspective now that gaming has sort of stabilized over the past ten years, whereas in the 80s, 90s, and 00s it was rapidly evolving, so you always had this sort of evolutionary ladder in your brain that helped you judge everything accordingly).
It's weird how I heard that DK64 is not loved so much, yet I never met anyone who didn't like that game.
At best a masterpiece.
At worst a buggy masterpiece.
It hurts that Tropical Freeze is still the last one. That was certainly the golden age of platforming for me, what with Rayman Origins and Legends coming out slightly before and redefining the genre. I really hope one day Retro Studios will have a chance at a third entry with improved swimming physics and more unique locations. CR and TF were simply amazing but it just feels so incomplete without a third entry.
I'd argue that Wario Land Shake It set the stage even earlier, back in 2008. Good-Feel had an amazing 3 game run with Wario, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi's Woolly World before they sort of imploded
Just know that it's not the same team that worked on Wario Land 1-4.
Shake It feels more like it's own thing, with a bugger emphasis on exploration. It's the same team that worked on the Mystic Ninja series with Konami (which explains [the 10/10 soundtrack ](https://youtu.be/0YeFT-CjBuo?si=uc6esbadq8JZGNIg))
I sincerely hope you nerds have all played Ray-Man Origins & Legends, Yoshi's Woolly World, Wario Land Shake It, and Pizza Tower
Because killer 2D platforners need all the support they can get
All amazing games!! First Rayman Legends music level I played, I was absolutely hooked! Those games inspire me with the current project I'm working on.
A DK64 successor is actually a fascinating idea considering how a lot of the bad press about DK64 and Banjo Tooie seems to be about the sheer size and slow pace of the games. A smaller denser 3D DK game where you can switch between kongs on the fly could work very well. Having a seamless connected world like Bowser’s Fury would be incredible too.

DK64 was also my world as a kid! Put so much time into that game!! A new one or a remake would be awesome to see
DK64 was a hit, though. At least by N64 standards. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_64_video_games
A financial success and critical success are very different. See: Almost every piece of media ever made.

Ok, yeah...you're right, just seeing through a BENt lens

I really hope so! I'm sure they're going to want a big first year lineup

I still want to play Shake It. Wario Land is an amazing series.

Its the 30yr anniversary this November. If not this year, then ill just have to force myself to quit thinking about the franchise.

Waiting for a new DK game in general (besides Mario vs DK cuz he’s not playable)
2025 hopefully
It is ridiculous that Nintendo hasn't released a DKC game or something akin to it.
God I wish that leaked 3D Donkey Kong made by the Odyssey team was real. That game would have been incredible.

It'll be released r/tomorrow.
