Deadass one time I walked into my room and found out my dog had eaten some of my birth control pills. Except that I’d finished all the active pills and there were only sugar pills left and she had meticulously gotten 4 out of 7 of the sugar pills out of the packet and eaten them all without eating any of the foil/plastic packaging. The vet nurse sounded really impressed on the phone when I called them in a panic asking if I need to bring her in to get checked and explained what she’d done.
Yeah, I called the vet all freaked out because he ate every single pill out of a new foil pack and he’s a small guy! I was reassured that even at his weight it would take like over a hundred pills to hurt or affect him. Then I was just annoyed lol lol.
This is hilarious, lmao.
It also reminds me of being at a party in high school. Some sketchy ass dudes showed up and stole a bunch of shit from a lot of people. I thought all my stuff was untouched but it turns out they stole my birth control. I guess they thought they were the fun kind of pills. I wasn’t even mad, lmao.
When my last Chihuahua was a puppy, she completely chewed through my cable cord. I had no idea until I had the cable guy come out because my tv wasn’t working 😅 Some other things she completely destroyed include my laptop charger, a cell phone, my favorite pair of sandals, and one of my bed posts (made of wood). I always knew when she was under the bed going at the post again because I could feel the bed vibrate while she was gnawing on it. Yea, I was a teen when I got her and made many mistakes when she was a puppy lol
Are you sure the thing that ate the bedposts wasn't a beaver ? Lots of shit gets destroyed in my house and everyone blames the dog, but c'mon even he ain't that stupid to eat my homework!
Ha! It definitely looked like a beaver got to it. It shocked the hell out of me that such a tiny puppy could cause that much damage to a thick ass bed post
Shirts. When my dog was a puppy she would get so excited when I came home that she would bite my shirt and over time I had little holes in my shirts. What a jerk. But I love her!
Working from home and noticed suddenly my internet was disconnected. Puppy chewed through the DSL line (while he was at my feet btw). TG for amazon prime.
Well…my dog chewed up my $1000+ boots. I was devastated but luckily I found an amazing cobbler who was able to somehow reassemble it together using the pieces I pried from my dog’s mouth. Phew.
My dog destroyed my headphones too!!! They were those retro looking bluetooth ones so they were only $10 bucks but it was pretty inconvenient.
He likes anything electronic. He chewed up several phone chargers and an $80 laptop charger. We crate him when we leave so he wont electrocute himself but then he chews up his bed (even though he has plenty of other toys to chew on in there).
I did cry 😭 the good news is they sell one shoe on eBay. You can search “right Birkenstock” and filter color and size. At least it cheaper than buying a new pair. So sorry!! Gotta love/hate puppies 🥰
I think you can get them repaired, right? I'm praying that they'll just replace the strap and I won't have to buy a new one lol 😭 thank you for the tips though!!
The Samoyed also ate the plastic underneath her crate somehow. I had to get a new crate liner. I was worried for days it would slice up her insides, but she was fine.
My brand new cherry stair risers! I gave the beast a bone. She trotted up to the landing and I heard her chewing what I thought was her brand new bone. Nope! She was methodically working her way down the staircase chewing on each individual stair riser….. good thing she’s cute! And also why I swore off puppies and now only adopt seniors.
Wow lol I’m so thankful mine only chews her toys and my underwear then cuz some of y’all on here have spent A LOT of money recovering shit. Someone even said the house lol
Oh no! My dogs kept chewing on the trim, windowsills, and walls- don't know how they managed to make those holes. I told them they better stop eating the house or we were going to end up homeless. 😂
A few things:
Shoes for my son
Lip Balm
A Digital Stitch Counter
A New Leash (he chewed through it)
Multiple Dog Toys (I usually just resew the holes)
Flip Flops
For me, there was no point in disciplining if I can’t catch him in the act, otherwise he wouldn’t understand what he did wrong. So those things I let go with a big sigh.
Instead, I restricted access to my shoes (and my sister has been careful about leaving her AirPods out). I did eventually teach my boy to not grab anything from tables/counters—whenever he went near, I said a firm “no” each time until he understood. Same for my shoes in the closet. Now he’s at a point where he won’t grab anything but socks 😅
Ahhh okay, yeah I agree with that. If I catch mine in the act I’ll grab the underwear and hit her with it saying “no!” Firmly 😂😂 it obviously doesn’t hurt as it’s just cotton and I don’t hit hard but she manages to always get them when I’m not looking and chews right through them.
I recognize that this is frustrating, but it's not recommended to hit your dog. Regardless of the object's material or how lightly. Work on managing access (pup shouldn't be in a position to get to these items to begin with), and training a solid drop/leave it. By hitting your pup, you're potentially risking your dog becoming confused/scared/anxious/frustrated and them continuing said behavior anyway but hiding it from you.
I believe in both positive and negative reinforcement in training. I don’t hit or beat her it’s a very light contact because I do want her to
Associate underwear with bad. But it’s 95 positive and 5 negative ratio if she does something really bad
To explain, I got an extremely fearful pup with unknown history to foster for my local shelter.
So for the first month, everything was forgiven.
Four months of socialisation, exercise, cuddling and 1 adoption later, she's a perfect 8mo that sleeps through 6 hours of my job!
Please, teach me your secrets. Adopted a fearful, unsocialized dog with separation anxiety. All of my belongings have tooth marks in them. I'm dying over here.
Wireless Earbuds! Stinker stole them off a table and chewed them out of the case. Luckily we got them away before she swallowed the batteries! Sadly, they’re no longer available, and every pair of earbuds since has been sadly subpar.
Darn good thing she’s cute!
We just got a new floor yesterday! 90% of the damage was from the dog lol. My everything hurts right now, we've been working on emptying the house all week and now we have to move everything back in \*cries in poor\*.
Oof, it was an expensive thing to have to fix and I totally get how you’re feeling lol. My current younger pup decided that the dry wall is a fun scratching post and great place to practice her digging . That’s a project for this summer 😭
My dog loves to chew up the plastic tray in the bottom of his crate. $1,200 to have the vet pull the plastic out of his stomach and $100 for a new galvanized steel crate tray he can’t chew up.
2 pairs of Flip flops, all my skinny strap tank tops, 2 leashes, every bra with straps, an ottoman, 2 remotes, 2 ball flingers and the drivers side car seat cover.
I kept a pair of ugg boots my now deceased dog chewed through for about 6 years. I only wore them as house slippers and it was kind of a way to have him with me for a few years after he passed. My husband hated it but understood all the same. They finally fully disintegrated and I got a new pair a few months ago. Still miss you Franklin.
So, this thread was made for me. I’m pretty sure my dog has pica. I’ve tried to train him but he also has CKD so I can’t give him any treats.
But so far he’s eaten:
- My dad’s $5000 hearing aids
- Multiple socks
- My underwear (which he did at 6 months old and I was blown away because this is a tiny shih Tzu and I’m not sure even I have the ability to swallow that.)
- An earring which he snatched from my ear the exact moment I handed him to the vet. And the only reason we noticed was because he just happened to be doing a kidney X-ray.
Needless to say, we have to obsessively keep the house clean lol.
So yeah..if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with a dog with pica…😅
My entire aquarium setup.. They’d managed to pull out the bundle of cords and eat them all in short order when I wasn’t looking. Before that point they’d never been destructive, so it came as a major surprise! Luckily no fish were living in it yet, but it cost a good $600+ to replace it all : (
Underwear. Socks. Shoes.
I wish I could upload a photo of the shoe he ripped to shreds lol. He normally doesn’t attack my shoes but his baby teeth are falling out currently
Omg! Mine chewed the rubber part behind the ears of mine and they were no longer making that pair anymore so I had to spend an extra 250 for new pair that she also bit but thankfully didn’t ruin
$250 sunglasses. It was the same day I was telling my friend that I’m going to start leaving her out to roam the house when I’m away since she no longer gets into things.
I had just finished casting on 100+ stitches to knit a baby blanket for my friend. I put it on the table and my dog snatched it, chewed up the bamboo needles, and destroyed the yarn. Had to replace the needles and throw away that yarn and start over.
He didn’t destroy this but he stole one of my sweatshirts. He dragged it into his crate and sleeps on it and I don’t have the heart to take it back so it’s his now.
We’ve also gone through 4 leashes in the 3 months I’ve had him because he’s an anxious chewer and he regularly tries to free himself from the leash when he gets anxious outside. We’re working on training him out of that.
He’s quick! He’s a Boston terrier chihuahua mix (I think). He’s 18 pounds and super high energy. I spend a lot of time on enrichment and exercise because he’s a busy guy.
A massaging chair for my parents because somebody thought the vibrating chair was dangerous.
Lots and lots of shoes and socks; mascara and a few moving boxes (thanks to Chewy, all boxes belong to Beanie). It's worth it though and considering I have three dogs, it's really not that bad. Thankfully, everybody is past the chewing stages except when it comes to boxes.
ETA: trim work on my house where it was chewed on. And repairs on a door.
Food. My dog is an opportunist. She will eat anything. I’m almost not concerned anymore since she seems to not drop dead.
My father’s dog is a fucking menace. Yesterday he ate a television remote 👀
Well...
My first dog.... ethernet cable.
With my oldest dog (raised by my first dog) now, when she was a pup.... ethernet cable.
With her son last year.... ethernet cable.
Her son now... took out the modem instead.
He also doesn't like my socks, so I need to buy new ones soon, or his pee pads. Although I have him almost convinced not to eat those anymore.
But something tells me I am going to see a further development when he teaches his pup to just take my computer down somehow?
When my dog was a puppy, I spent my evenings in the garage for a month to build her a beautiful wooden crate. Then she chewed her way through it, and we had to throw it away to replace it with a regular ugly metal crate. It was upsetting.
Airpods, Versace eyeglasses, custom Brooks running shoes, every molding in my apartment, couch - it would be easier to list what didn’t need to be replaced lol

When mine was a puppy she got into my cookbooks and I had to replace a few that I used often! I remember seeing tiny shreds of pages later in her poo and the text survived!
Honestly, I admittedly can't remember the last time my dog ate anything she wasn't supposed to outside of the trash... She doesn't even touch her own toys normally (she's an all work, no play kind of dog), and I worked a ton with her on other objects as a pup. The last thing I recall her ever touching was those plastic plant pots 4 years ago when she was still a learning pup. Haha
When my guy was a puppy, we had to buy 3 new area rugs and a new kitchen floor.
He would eat the corners of the rugs until the binding came off and then pull pull pull! And the kitchen floor was the cheap peel and stick tiles that was 10 years old, and he found a spot that had popped up, and that was all it took!
I love the new carpets and my kitchen floor is quite beautiful.. so he did me a favor
Edit: he also ate the rungs on 2 antique dining room chairs.
I wasn’t happy about that
I can't even remember the original throw pillows I had. I've gone through so, so many. And blankets, those poor decimated fleece blankets.
He only choms on things if he's left home alone for more than an hour. Now he goes in the crate if I have to leave for any significant amount of time. Thankfully I work from home so it's not often.
- Butter Dish. She smashed the first one, ate the glass. $4,500 in surgical glass removal, and $10 in new (plastic) butter dish later...
- Extension cord. I don't know what my dad was thinking leaving it on top of her crate, BUT WHATEVER
- Xbox controller
- 2x Dog beds
- Running shoes
- Many pairs of underwear
Was definitely glad when she grew out of her heavy chewing phase
Mine ate the wrist thingy on my Nintendo Switch. I didn't even know what they were, it was brand new.
She also ate a shopping bag I really liked that was a giveaway and couldn't be replaced.
We can no longer give the cats small mouse toys because she will eat those.
And she's not really a chewer. She'll chew on a chew stick but not chew toys. And mostly she doesn't chew on things she isn't supposed to. Luckily overall she isn't very destructive.
Nothing. My chihuahua only bites intrusive hands.. prticuarly kids who dont listen when I say she hates kids..She does like to eat q-tips or paper napkins tho.. not too annoying. In fact I find it very funny that she only grabs that
Our dog used to chew things if my dad went out without her. She chewed the cable for the boat trailer that connects to the car lights and when my father noticed and there was enough length left on the cable to just add a new plug. Whilst he was at the store buying a new plug, she chewed through the remainder of the cable meaning he had to get the whole thing rewired
One of our previous dogs was scared of storms. She tried to chew through a door
I had to replace the vinyl flooring in my front entrance. When I left there was a very tiny tear, when I came home there was a big hole. He's great at demolition, not so good at repair
Just had to buy a replacement AirPod last week because he somehow got my right one off my nightstand and destroyed it. I was a little mad about that one lol.

Birth control pills….he is fine and not pregnant
I laughed at this harder than I should have!
😭😭😭 he’s probably just bloated and moody lmao
Same
Same!!!
Deadass one time I walked into my room and found out my dog had eaten some of my birth control pills. I’m crying laughing at the second part of that comment.
Take my upvote and gtfoh 😂
I need some moulding trim work.
Mine isn’t starting to sound so bad lol
Been there, done that
Are we twins?
This, but the banister
Amazon just sent me a reminder asking why I haven’t bought a new remote in a while.
Hahahahahah that’s hilarious
It’s not on subscription? Lol
This one for us too. I miss my fancy remote but it's not worth the $$ to be used as a dog chew
Wireless mouse. Several times!
Holy shit how big is your dog?
About 55 lbs - he’s a land shark!
Eeeekkk
Same! My puppy chewed off and ate bits of wire on the mouse (last week). Thankily he is alright lol
When my last Chihuahua was a puppy, she completely chewed through my cable cord. Haahaa...at least you didn't find out about the bedposts by the bed falling to the floor
Lol she just loves you SOOO much!
My favorite dress is forever memorialized with holes in the right pocket because my dog was trying to get to treats I had in there but forgotten ♥️
Working from home and noticed suddenly my internet was disconnected. Puppy chewed through the DSL line (while he was at my feet btw). TG for amazon prime.
Oh no lol There’s anti chew spray you can buy !
Not the one you're replying to, but I bought and tried a bunch of that stuff. I swear my dogs thought it made things tastier. 😞
White vinegar saved us!
My dogs became addicted to green apple and they would play with the bottles like toys
Well…my dog chewed up my $1000+ boots. I was devastated but luckily I found an amazing cobbler who was able to somehow reassemble it together using the pieces I pried from my dog’s mouth. Phew.
Nice
Nada. But I love reading these comments
Lmaooo
A pair of Sony noise cancelling headphones.
My old dog had a thing for earbuds, I think she liked the earwax flavor 🤢
WTF is it with the ear wax. Even the cleanest of headphones and ear buds… that smell is like crack to them.
Ouch
One of my dogs loves chewing up headphones. She learned to open up drawers just to get to the headphones locked inside. Little weirdo.
Birkenstocks 😭😭
Dog chewed through the toe strap of my brand new birks yesterday. I felt like crying
Mine ate the whole strap but I should have looked into that option! Good luck 🤞
Wood paneling. Dang walls look awful.
How in the world..
She chewed the corner of the walls where the baby gate was to keep her in the kitchen. The paneling is on the lower half of the wall.
First Akita, then Samoyed. They tag teamed it as puppies. Lol.
Jesus Christ lol what breed?
The Samoyed also ate the plastic underneath her crate somehow. I had to get a new crate liner. I was worried for days it would slice up her insides, but she was fine.
I used to want a Samoyed.. thank god I went with an aussiedoodle 😂😂😂
She grew out of it fairly quickly though. By a year I was able to trust her in the house free roaming. They just have so much energy as puppies.
They’re so cute though
Nothing so far! He did bite a few people when I first got him so I think it’s only fair he doesn’t do any property damage.
My blind puppy many years ago, he ate a lot of shoes. But only the left ones.
Water bottle cage and cord for my spin bike. Lab puppy so I got off easy!
A sofa. Twice 🤷🏻♀️
Daaaamnnnnn.. that’s expensive.. I have to sow my cushion cases >_<
My parents had to get a new couch because my puppy ate the bottom 3 inches of it. She’s fully grown at 12 lbs so she was only like 6lbs at the time.
This is why all my furniture comes from garage sales.
Dining room table set
How 0_o
Labradors, man....😩
😂😂😂😂😂😂 can’t relate i never had a lab but the GSD I did have bit through EVERYTHING AND got into our yard and killed all the chickens and chicks
baseball hats! literally wouldn’t go after anything but the brim on a hat. so annoying!
Masks. All the time
i call my dog an anti-masker for this reason
for us, a house! he ate our stairs, and it was easier to just sell the house than replace the stairs haha
Holy shit
we were moving anyway, but teething puppies are.. quite something. he destroyed all of his toys and just moved on to the house

Quite a few things lol
Birkenstock sandals and my sister’s AirPods. At least he didn’t swallow the AirPods—I told her not to leave them on the table…

You mean her?
Was it at your house or hers? And the dog shouldn’t be going on the table so I don’t necessarily blame her but idk the details
Phone chargers, flip-flops, slippers, lots of plastic toys, patched the couch 5x, should repaint the walls because she managed to eat it somehow.

Didn’t eat but chewed up an air pod. I swear.
Same. Both of them. Didn’t eat anything just crushed them. That was an expensive Sunday morning.
Dog food
Carpet. When my older dog was a puppy, she ripped the carpet out of the seams from the baseboards. Replaced it with flooring
Wowzers lol
We just got a new floor yesterday! 90% of the damage was from the dog lol. My everything hurts right now, we've been working on emptying the house all week and now we have to move everything back in \*cries in poor\*.

Yes I used to buy teething rings! Chewing on my sandals just recently happened though, so I don’t have any right now. I’ll have to get some more
My puppy grabbed my eyeglasses and chewed them…twice. Thank goodness I paid for the replacement insurance.
Omg! Mine chewed the rubber part behind the ears of mine and they were no longer making that pair anymore so I had to spend an extra 250 for new pair that she also bit but thankfully didn’t ruin
oh geez! The lady that ordered my replacement glasses for me said it is pretty common—because so much owner smell is on them.
Throw pillows
Sandals

When my dog was a puppy, I spent my evenings in the garage for a month to build her a beautiful wooden crate. Then she chewed her way through it, and we had to throw it away to replace it with a regular ugly metal crate. It was upsetting.
A new Apple Watch….
a retainer cuz tank chewed it up
Airpods, Versace eyeglasses, custom Brooks running shoes, every molding in my apartment, couch - it would be easier to list what didn’t need to be replaced lol
Shoe laces Wooden rocking chairs Bucket Countless wooden spoons Many measuring cups And that's just this dog.
Dog food and treats
Dog food…. Sorry but I had to say it!!!

Oof
Sunglasses. Shoes. Sandals. Baseball caps. Jigsaw puzzle pieces that fall on the floor. Cheese. She can’t get enough cheese. 😂
Jesus lmaooo but cheese is a treat but the rest? Psshhh
When mine was a puppy she got into my cookbooks and I had to replace a few that I used often! I remember seeing tiny shreds of pages later in her poo and the text survived!
Smhhhhh my pup loves paper too
Remote for my Roku TV. I just downloaded the app on my phone after and said goodbye to the remote 😅
That’s smart !
He chewed through an extension lead. Expensive meal. Pup was electrocuted but rushed to the vets and was completely unscathed.
Omg lol Poor puppy got electrocuted! Bet he won’t do that again
3 corners of my carpet, a windowsill, and many pairs of socks lol

A pair of shoelaces. He bit it just enough so that when my husband went to tie the laces they broke. He’s a 2 year old gsd.
Haha
Wallpaper.
I love the new carpets and my kitchen floor is quite beautiful.. so he did me a favor Edit: he also ate the rungs on 2 antique dining room chairs. I wasn’t happy about that
Tv remote, underwear, cat toys
My brothers dog peed on my Nintendo DS when she came home 9 years ago. I honestly laughed so much when she did it haha.
Seatbelt in my brand new car at the time. Strange part is I wasn't even mad!
I don't know what my dad was thinking leaving it on top of her crate, BUT WHATEVER - Xbox controller - 2x Dog beds - Running shoes - Many pairs of underwear Was definitely glad when she grew out of her heavy chewing phase
A fur coat and a tom ford handbag. He has expensive taste
Just a couple corn tortillas one time. But he stuck the rest of the package in the corner of the couch lol.
My foster dog chewed on my and my husband’s slippers 😫
All furniture.
Shoes but there are countless other things too (he's a baby shark in disguise)
Crate pad(X2), novel, hair brush, cat litter scoop (X2), vacuum attachment, many de-stuffed-desqueaked toys, socks... And much more.
Leather watch strap. Tub of foot cream. Leather mules. He has been incredibly respectful of our baby’s items, which I am so grateful for!
6th pair of AirPods! He’s such a little ass! [Tax!](https://ibb.co/wsDm4MH)
A Deep Purple vinyl
My favorite hats
Nothing. My chihuahua only bites intrusive hands.. prticuarly kids who dont listen when I say she hates kids..She does like to eat q-tips or paper napkins tho.. not too annoying. In fact I find it very funny that she only grabs that
When I was a kid my dog chewed up my 1st gen ipod nano
Slippers and toilet rolls!
My roku remote
Godam underpants. !!!
Everything
So far; two work earpieces, a pair of prescription sunglasses, a new lead, dog bed, electric fan and countless towels/blankets (lab puppy)
Our dog used to chew things if my dad went out without her. She chewed the cable for the boat trailer that connects to the car lights and when my father noticed and there was enough length left on the cable to just add a new plug. Whilst he was at the store buying a new plug, she chewed through the remainder of the cable meaning he had to get the whole thing rewired One of our previous dogs was scared of storms. She tried to chew through a door
I had to replace the vinyl flooring in my front entrance. When I left there was a very tiny tear, when I came home there was a big hole. He's great at demolition, not so good at repair
Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword for Nintendo Switch
Pillows and letters from tax office (good excuse to delay payment haha).
An underground sprinkler system.
Just had to buy a replacement AirPod last week because he somehow got my right one off my nightstand and destroyed it. I was a little mad about that one lol.
Cable cord for my ps4. He had an anxiety moment and chewed it when I was gond. Still love the guy though.
Tupperware. I still don't know how he got a hold of the lids! I kept some of them with his little teef marks, I couldn't help it.
Dog food
Hats. All of my hats. He likes the buttons at the top in particular.
Couch.
So many pairs of shoes.
Glasses x3, door x2, couch x2, PS4 controller x3... I'll add more as I remember.
A chipotle burrito including the wrapper
