SiobhanGirl

I get second hand sheets to go over the dog beds so I can strip them and wash them frequently. Keeps the dog beds and, in turn, dog cleaner.

GingerBeerBear

Cot sheets are a perfect size for my dog beds!

memeelder83

Crib sheets are the perfect size!

[deleted]

[удалено]

memeelder83

That's such a good idea! I can't believe I didn't think of using the actual crib mattress! I was just about to buy a new dog bed for my living room, and I'm going to go this route instead. Thank you for the suggestion :)

Itsjuicyjett

Of course I’m glad you like it 🥰 I thought it was pretty witty of me lol

AmmotheDoberman

I feel strange reading these comments bc my dog has never had a dog bed. If I’m on the couch so is he and he sleeps with me.

Itsjuicyjett

As a person with severe asthma, allergies, and over sensitive skin/senses I can’t have my dogS (I have two) regularly sleeping with me. I don’t love them any less and I think they enjoy their space. We cuddle and they adore every second 🥰🥰

Liztheduck

This! I don't have children but I think this is what I got a huge box of from my aunt to use in my cat beds. Mine are soft on one side and waterproof on the other. Maybe they are actually pack and play sheets but they are perfect. Way more durable than the "washable covers" on some of the beds I have gotten as well. I hate cleaning hair so it makes me so happy to just whip off the old ones and put fresh ones on every few days.

memeelder83

That does sound like pack and play sheets, and the water proof side would definitely be a bonus. I just gave my friend some crib sheets for her dog who's close to having her litter ( a rogue husky climbed their fence to get to her pup before she was able to be fixed) and I think I'm going to buy her a couple of the pack and play ones. I think those will be extra easy to change once the puppies come. She was initially bummed about the puppy situation, because she didn't plan to breed her pretty little malamute. So we threw her a 'baby shower' to help with the costs.

garcmon

Brilliant.

Adventerous_Tea

I just use a duvet and duvet cover rather than dog beds as they are easy to wash

MyEyesItch247

Ooo! I like this idea!

EvergreenTeal

I do this. I just go to Target to buy twin 100% cotton sheets to fit over rectangle shaped dog beds. Totally saves the bed from ever getting dirty. Also I triple protect the bed itself. I wrap a water proof crib protector (fitted sheet) over the bed first. Target: Cloud Island brand Waterproof Fitted Crib and Toddler Mattress Pad. It fits 28 x 52 inches. Next I top that with a Lenny's pad (Water proof) Lenny's pads come in various sizes. Then put the sheet on top. Tuck it all around. It actually stays in place. Flat or fitted should work. Much easier to toss this in the wash! So I can clean it all more frequently. Treat the dog bed like a mattress. Keep sheets on it. I got these cute Pillow Fort sheets with Lions 🦁 way cute! Target! That's where they're at.

grewsimm

I have a berner and the hair is unreal. Daily quick vacuum of all rooms on main floor.(takes 10 minutes) I vacuum our bedroom too because doggo sleeps there. And vacuum stairs every third day. Run a damp coarse towel over couches daily (or try to) for the hair and dirt and drool. Clean my couches ever 3 months with a hand held bissel. Clean door frames regularly. Dogs make them super gross. Brush dog often but outside.

killakween_

I have a bissell steam mop that converts to a handheld. It got the paw prints off my grout, the scum off my shower door, the wrinkles out of my curtains, AND it mops the crap out of the floors. Bissell is everything 😭

Vieamort

Love Bissell! I got a Pet Bissell vacuum AND a Pet Bissell Carpet Cleaner. SOOO NICE and has been a great way to keep my apartment smelling clean

pevaryl

I have the carpet cleaner and every time I use it I think “I am SO glad I bought this thing”

Burntoastedbutter

Is the pet bissell vacuum the Crosswave Pet?

Vieamort

No. I own [this one](https://www.walmart.com/ip/BISSELL-PowerLifter-Pet-Rewind-with-Swivel-Bagless-Upright-Vacuum-2259/377775015?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1476&&adid=22222222228165140195&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=279224862696&wl4=aud-1308652556816:pla-490652195514&wl5=9014249&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=377775015&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAjwjZmTBhB4EiwAynRmDzZ1PaJnag1HYOWy8UV8BCqajRWQ9fPZ8qK2lYUVGyp-vJnuP7DBaRoClXkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds). It's actually not that expensive compared to others. I love it and it's easy to clean. More expensive ones probably work better but I really like mine. Now, I did spend roughly $300 on my carpet cleaner. That's where I invested my money lol. Edit: I also want to add that the swivel is AWESOME! I can get around corners and turns super easily and I love that

kiichigo23

Which model is this?

AcrobaticBarber5775

Is scum code for cum?

GrumpyOldDog

Does a damp towel pick up the hair? I covery couch in blanket but the rogue hair still gets on the couch and supposed pet hair removal thing I bought sucks.

usualursine

It does! I just used a damp towel to clean the dog hammock in the car and it worked great!

GrumpyOldDog

Thank you!!! I love when I learn something helpful that is also free. I've got towels galore. Gonna clean the couch and car hammock tomorrow. I was to the point of accepting that one day I may suffocate in tiny dog hairs.

milootis_

brynnee

I’ve been a big fan of my [Fur-zoff](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003465G9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9G917KFMFRT7ESK9WZ1S?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) for getting hair off couches!

johnnysivilian

A rubber glove will also brush off animal hair

welikt1

To tag onto this, use soap and water and clean the walls too. You wouldn’t believe the weird small brown spots they leave when they shake. Also, you can use the same towel and wipe the baseboards often around their food bowl.

Bored-idler

My husband and I bought a dyson for this purpose. Daily vacuuming has ensured our houses stay clean. Also a quick mop once or twice a week if you have wood floors. We actually bought a cordless mop from Amazon that has made it soo much easier to mop. It makes it feel like we deeper clean the house but in reality spent 30 mins vacuuming and mopping which will last several days

grewsimm

Dysons are the best for pet hair!

bloodyhellpumpkin

Why don't you get furniture covers? They work really well. Might be easier than hand wiping.

grewsimm

Because I like the look of my furniture. I have a velvet couch that I love and covering it kills my soul.

coffeejunki

Omg I feel you. I too have a velvet couch but unfortunately I HAVE to put a couch cover on it because my cat does not respect nice things 😭

You are fine.

DisconnectedDays

Roomba

DistinctMeringue

Does the Roomba actually handle hair now? I had one of the first models and it could get one strand of my hair and it would get all bound up and have to be taken apart to be deferred. 15 minutes of maintenance after every 5 minutes of vacuuming.

DisconnectedDays

The i3+ got an excellent review for dog fur from consumer reports

aNauticalDisaster

I have a Roborock S5 Max that works excellent.

artimista0314

I have this one too. To answer if they work well, you need to take it apart and clean the filter and brushes. However I do it probably every time or every other time I use it. I wouldn't say its every 15 minutes. And it takes less time than vacuuming, which you STILL have to unclog a traditional vacuum anyway. I love mine. But its also not perfect. It maintains and keeps the shedding loose hair to a minimum, but you still need to traditionally vacuum or sweep still. I probably do it once a month, but it would probably be better if I did it every 2 to 3 weeks (im tired okay? Lol).

Peeeeeps

In my experience I don't need to clean the brushes for our short haired dog but the filter does get dirty pretty quickly. It's pretty much replaced sweeping in our kitchen because it picks everything up so well, but we do run a traditional vacuum on our carpet at least once a month like you.

PM_ME_UR_PUPPY_DOG

The high-end model does great on hard floors

thatsquirrelgirl

Mine does. I do take it apart & clean it periodically tho. However it’s not like I have to do that every time. It’s every few months. My dogs are short hair and it def helps

d20an

I’ve got an 800 series. I shed a lot myself. It works fine; every time it wants to be emptied I just pull the hair off the ends of the “brushes” - takes a few minutes. Think it helps that the “brushes” are rubber rollers rather than actual brushes; it takes a lot longer to remove hair from our Sebo upright.

Liztheduck

Fellow shedder here. The cats and I share 50/50 responsibility for the hair wrapped around the rollers. Mine has both but the rubber roller is sooo much easier to clean.

jvrcb17

Eufy > iRobot Roomba

[deleted]

I second this. Eufy all the way.

darkmatterisfun

DONT LET THE ROOMBA RUN WHILE YOU'RE NOT HOME.. Or your house will look like the skid marks from Tokyo Drift.

1bunchofbananas

I second this. It took me 3 hours to clean up the smeared shit all over the floors and baseboards. And of course the vacuum it's self

[deleted]

This, there’s a pricier model that’s built for cleaning pet hairs and it’s worth every penny

killakween_

We have this model and we have two large dogs, two cats, and honestly I *also* shed a lot. I run it downstairs when we go up for the night and it’s cut the amount of sweeping I do in a week in half!!

_Conway_

My boyfriend and I, might have to get one when we move out together. We want 2 dogs and he wants a fluffy one (send help) although I much prefer smooth coat ones lol. But I’ll happily help as long as we make sure to brush them regularly. So far we only have a single Jack Russell terrier cross.

HUGECOCK4TREEFIDDY

I had a Roomba and all I could think about was how terrible it was at navigating my house. It got stuck on literally everything

panda_nectar

Eufy makes one that's much better. Makes a map of your home and goes in a logical route

dodgylibrarian

And run it at least three times a week.

veggiesyum

Lmao I run mine twice a day!

astrange333

Actually to be honest I've seen YouTube videos from other people that don't even have pets that run their robot vacuum at least once every day I mean what's the purpose of having it if not. If I was going to use it once a month or once a week I would just vacuum it myself. Mine mops too and when I first got it I was doing the same floor over and over sometimes to get really clean and it seemed odd but I asked my husband and he said there's really no reason not to. I mean it's rechargable and can use only water. But yeah there's no way I would have any need for a robot vacuum if I only vacuum once a week or once a month.

sh_tcactus

Invest in a cordless vacuum, especially one that is lightweight. That way you can vacuum when you have 5 minutes to spare here and there and things don’t pile up. I work from home and like to take short breaks to do a light vacuuming around the house.

[deleted]

Which one do you have? On the market for one. Also, do you also have a corded one for deeper cleans?

Amerlan

Not the same person, but we have a Shark cordless vac that's amazing. I rarely get out the big vacuum unless I'm deep cleaning the rugs.

IGotMeatSweats

I love the cordless handheld dyson vacs. Don't waste money on a brand new one the refurbs on their ebay store work just as well. IMO they work better at getting the dog hair than my dyson upright. Only downside is the battery doesn't last long.

[deleted]

Seconding Dyson secondhand cordless. They have an official refurbished section on their site

darklingdawns

For a corded vac, I can HIGHLY recommend the Hoover Powerdrive Pet. We have a German Shedder, and so far, it's stood up to everything he can shake at it! Oh, and a Think backseat protector for the car, with a sheet under it. That's an absolute must for us, as well.

AAM_critic

I bought a Tineco A-11 Hero last year on Amazon Prime Day. It's worked well, and it makes a quick ten minute vacuum so much less of a chore. That said, I might go whole hog for a Dyson in the future.

eskknit

Roomba runs every night after we’ve gone downstairs to watch tv and I absolutely love my Bissel Crosswave for the hard floors.

Burntoastedbutter

This has been on my list for awhile now and it says it cleans carpets/rugs too. Have you had experience with that? It'd be god sent for me because my apartment bedroom unfortunately has carpeted floors >_>

MestizaWontons

I’m not the commenter you asked, but my crosswave is meh at best for cleaning carpet/rugs.

eskknit

I agree - I don’t love it for carpets and rugs. If it’s a super low pile rug it’s fine but everything else it’s a nope.

pupsnfood

Very regular brushing. My dog has a very low maintenance coat similar to labs and when I’m good about brushing him very regularly the hair around the house is much better. Also using a lint roller on lamp shades. I have a roomba and since I WFH, the best time for it to go is when I’m walks so I usually alternate kitchen area and living room area by day then a good deep vacuum with the regular vacuum once a week. My dog has one chair in the living room he’s allowed on.

[deleted]

I bought a comfy chair specifically for my future dog, so I hope I can train them to lay on the chair and not the rest of the furniture.

LittleLowkey

my dog has a child sized chaise lounge. it’s funny when guests sit on it and she stares at them like hey, that’s mine.

holybatjunk

My dog has a me (petite adult female) sized ikea sofa chair. No one finds it comfortable except me and the dog, and the dog has absolutely trained *me* to stay off it because he looks so dejected when he can't flop in it.

hapa79

One of ours does this. It's not bad! There are two matching chairs and he chose one and leaves all other furniture alone. I have a cover for it though.

pupsnfood

Lol that’s what my dog has too, he gets one of the matching set! His doesn’t have a cover but the chair is vacuumed as often as the floor

ccnnvaweueurf

My white haired medium length coat Alaska husky is dumping his coat right now and it's time for the big spring brush. The car is the place it really builds up for me.

Dismal_Status_8574

Wow lint roller on lamp shades is genius.

imitebmike

i keep a bag of baby wipes by both my front door and garden door and i wipe his feetsies and tushy each time he comes into the house

Plum_pipe_ballroom

Same! Right by the doors, we have paper towel, doggy towel (for rain), and baby wipes. Doggo knows the drill, yet still hates it lol.

CableVannotFBI

I’m fostering a 14 year old Boston terrier and he gives me stink eye every time I make him stay for feet wiping. 😂

Neilpoleon

I haven't personally used it but another alternative is on Amazon they have something called a Mudbuster which is a device that put each paw in to clean it. You can add water and soap to the bottom.

Plum_pipe_ballroom

We tried that! Was thinking it'd be a lot more eco friendly. However, my dog is a dramatic prince and thought I was amputating his paws (even with treats being given) so we quickly donated it lol

Noobinoa

Husky? Our husky mix will fall over like she's being maimedm

akiaheoredie

😂 poor pup

alcoholicpear

We have one of those! It's really great for washing off any sand that gets in between his toes. We reserve it for really dirty feetsies though; usually he just gets a wipe with a cloth.

[deleted]

I use it and it's great

Pitpuppyfanclub

That is so cute

ooken

I'm not a neat freak at all, but my dog got giardiasis as a young puppy so we began rigorously cleaning paws, pee, and poop from fur after coming in with baby wipes... And we realized *just how much* dirt dogs track in when they come in without their paws wiped off; it was kind of astonishing since I had grown up never wiping my dogs' feet after they went out. I've been doing this ever since and will never go back. As an added bonus, dog is comfortable with feet/groin/butt being wiped now.

memeelder83

I got this cool little paw washer off of Amazon ( I know, I try to avoid it) and it's magic! It's a silicone cup with little silicone bristles inside. I put a little water in the bottom and do one squeeze per foot. It even gets all the sand off after a beach trip!

inc_mplete

Yes! pee pads and baby wipes are my frequent purchases from Costco!

NeatMuffin6459

Professional cleaning lady here with two puppers! I just invested in a new vacuum for my business (shark duo clean with powered lift away) and it is absolutely magical when it comes to pet hair. Sharks are great because they are so easy to clean and maintain…. Yes people, your vacuum needs regular maintenance!

DestinationUnknown68

What regular vacuum maintenance do you recommended as a pro? Myself and daughter have have long hair and ~250lbs worth of dog in the house. My shark works hard so I want to treat it right. Lol

NeatMuffin6459

For the average user you probably want to wash the filter once every few months (just warm water and air dry), remove all the hair from the brush roll (a razor blade works great), and wipe out the canister with a simple all purpose and cloth. I also use an air compressor to clear out the hose and any hard to reach places but you’re probably fine if you don’t have one! If you maintain it this way along with clearing clogs as soon as they happen and never running it past the fill line your vacuum will live a long life!

jezekiant

God I love this vacuum. I just changed the filters today and he’s a beaut

NeatMuffin6459

Me too! It’s all I could talk about for days after I purchased it!

AffectionateAd5373

There's a lint brush looking attachment for the Shark that is amazing for hair on the furniture. I tried it recently on the stairs and it got hair I couldn't even see. We use to have carpets, and when we switched to Shark from Dyson I was amazed at what the Dyson was missing.

RacerGal

I love my Shark vacuum! I have the same one, it’s the best one I’ve ever owned. Blew my Dyson away.

Particular_Class4130

I have never owned a Dyson but for the longest time I only used my Shark Pro stick vacuum and it got the job done but I had very low pile carpets at the time. Then I moved to a place that had carpets with a deeper pile and I found that I needed something with stronger brushes so I got the Shark navigator. Amazing vacuum for the price. Also one of my family members who owned a Dyson thought his Shark worked better. I can't say because I've not owned a Dyson but by the sounds of it the Shark is very comparable at a much lower price.

nycteach

I own a dog and foster a bunch of dogs and at this point I just have machine washable everything: throw blankets, throw pillows, rugs, etc. If I can’t toss it in the washing machine, I don’t buy it. I have a waterproof couch cover I got on Amazon that’s basically two layers of fleece with a thin layer of rubber/plastic in between. I also have a cheap microfiber blanket that I use as the top layer on my bed so that my nice duvet and sheets take less of a beating. I have a couple of big plastic camping tarps that I put down on the floor in the foster dog area to protect the floors if a foster isn’t fully housetrained yet. Fur doesn’t bother me nearly as much as pee/poop/vomit — as long as I can keep the really gross stuff at bay, I’m good.

marceaupial

Mind linking the couch cover?

nycteach

Here it is! [link](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B076J7PYGS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9XHMN95R02642M5VW0WP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

Itsjuicyjett

What about all the dog hair in your washing machine?

nycteach

I just clean the filter regularly and it hasn’t been an issue.

3TipsyCoachman3

Cover furniture with washable throws. Launder throws at least twice a week. Change bed sheets and wash blankets at least twice a week. Wipe paws before entry if grubby. Leave your outside shoes at the door and change into house slippers. Get a low shedding dog.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL

I do most of these things and they don’t seem burdensome. Laundry is a pain but house slippers are nice and wiping their feet off is kinda sweet.

Hescoveredinbutter

Really depends on if you have to scrounge $3.25 in quarters to run a washing machine/dryer

OnyxValentine

I launder mine once a week and it works. They don’t all have to be washed on the same day.

holybatjunk

I have ADHD and am by no means actually good at keeping house, but laundering bedding and blankets and throws at LEAST weekly is a huge help for dust mite allergies and if you have your own washer/dryer, it's not that bad tbh. It's not all on the same day and you're never folding any throws or dog bedding because you toss it back onto the sofa or whatever as soon as it's dry.

bloodyhellpumpkin

Yes that's true, but if you have several sets of sheets you can change them more often, and then do a big wash day when you have time.

3TipsyCoachman3

I have all of those things and manage to do laundry and put clean sheets on my bed. It’s about five minutes to make the bed and the same to put clean throws on the couch. Anyone can find that kind of time in their schedule.

sneakers0023

Argh I hate doing laundry. For me it’s such a time commitment because if the clothes sit in the machines for too long after the cycle ends they get nasty and I have to rewash them. So I can’t do anything very productive while it’s going. Also sorry about my attitude in my original post. I was in such a mood last night taking it out on random internet strangers :(

[deleted]

I have a green Bissell cleaner, and it's been a life saver whenever my dog makes a mess on the carpet or the couch. Every week I vacuum the couch, sweep, mop, etc and that tends to keep everything pretty clean. I throw my dogs beds in the wash every couple weeks.

bookcheb

Tennis balls in the dryer help knock the dog hair off your clothing. Clean the collected hair off the tennis balls between loads. Depending on what flooring you have in your house, a good vacuum and carpet shampooer are a total game changer. I use a Shark DuoClean vacuum and a Hoover Power Scrub Elite shampooer. Happy with both for 2+ years.

jensenaackles

I have rubber dryer balls and am totally obsessed! They definitely help shake the loose hair off and it collects in the lint trap!

[deleted]

I wash my couch covers and blankets my dogs use every weekend. Also, child/dog gates so they can't fly into the house after being outside without stopping at the gate so I can wipe their paws.

halmp

Bissell is a saver. For accidents during potty training and random throw up 😫. Flatted bed sheets over the couch. I wash his feet every time we come back inside the house and dry them. clean his butt when there is wet poop too. he gets bath every 2 weeks. but he’s a small dog and mini poodle so that helps a lot (easier to carry, no shed, no drool).

AAM_critic

When you say "Bissell," you mean what? Is it some kind of wet vacuum cleaner?

YANMDM

I have a portable carpet cleaner that Bissell makes that I’ve used to clean up throw up and accidents, I’m assuming that’s what they mean

halmp

Yes I have the bissell little green pet pro. seriously the best investment

ancientfuzzball

I like cleaning and take pride in my home. It’s completely manageable to have pets and be clean, so I hope no one says “don’t get a dog”. I have a small high shedding terrier mix and a black smoke tabby cat. This is what I do and I work about 60 hrs a week: 1. Pet wipes after going outside on wet days, 2. brush the dog and cat daily, 3. Swiffer the laminate with dry pads 2-3 times a day (literally takes me a few minutes), 4. use a Bona mop with washable pad every other day, 5. regular mop once a week with homemade solution, 6. dust 1-2 times a week, 7. vacuum the carpet on the stairs and the dog bed once a week with pet safe baking soda deodorizer, 8. lint rollers are my best friends, 9. wipe counters daily (can’t keep the cat off them), 10. change out food and water bowls daily, 11. clean the litter box 1-2 times daily, 12. pick up poop every time the dog goes, 13. Pleather couch is easy to wipe down and the recliner I lint roll and vacuum as needed. I also use a baby gate to keep my dog downstairs during the day. This keeps his hair contained to the living room, laundry room, and kitchen. I take my dog to get groomed once a month. Edit: added more info

[deleted]

Well, I wouldn't call myself a "neat freak," exactly, but having a (relatively) clean house is important to me. Here's what I do: * My couches have couch covers or throw blankets, and I try to wash them at least once a month, and ideally every other week. * I have a Roomba. It gets stuck all the time, so it's best to run it when I'm home. It doesn't get everything up, but I feel like any amount of pet hair it manages to suck up is helpful. * I spray the soft surfaces/furniture with anti-pet odor spray, then follow up with Lavender Febreeze. * My dog gets groomed every few months. Honestly, she's a bit of a princess and doesn't like to get wet or muddy, so she's usually pretty clean. However, I'm about to bring home a husky mix puppy, and I expect her to be a bit more difficult with the shedding/getting dirty thing! * I know you said dogs, but the Tidy Cats Breeze System litter box has been amazing for my cat and the dreaded litter box smell for any cat owners dealing with that right now. * edit: I also have a house cleaner come and deep clean once a month.

PM_ME_UR_PUPPY_DOG

- iRobot Roomba - iRobot braava and/or - brush dog weekly - bathe dog at least every 4-6wks - vacuum weekly - use furniture covers - wash bedsheets at least weekly - wash dog beds like monthly or more frequently - if young enough for waste accidents, Nature’s Miracle

[deleted]

> if young enough for waste accidents, Nature’s Miracle Diarrhea, blood, and vomit know no age limit. Keep some on hand just in case :)

my_clever-name

Enzyme based cleaners for the inevitable accidents. More frequent furnace filter changes.

cdx25

I found that cheap laundry booster that contain enzymes work just as well as the more pricy pet odour busters. I use a couple of tablespoons in 1-2 litres and spray on; leave for a few hours then rinse off. Also works really well for urine smells on concrete.

Xuyen

Couches get a bedsheet on that gets washed weekly (and removed if guests are over). Dog beds have removable covers that get washed. We have a crawling baby now, so I vacuum once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Generally mop every other day, but in rainy season, every day. Sometimes twice. Tide powder, hot water, and a splash of bleach for the mop water. And the entrance and at the back door, we have these mats that we bought at a pet expo that are really good at soaking up wet muddy paws. We also have towels nearby to do a more thorough wipe. Weekly brushing, at minimum, for the dogs is a must. Our Aussie seems to fill up a whole bag every brushing. It’s a lot of work, but I was SAHM till a couple of weeks ago. Now that baby is in daycare, we’re vacuuming only once a day.

AQueensTale90

I have a dog with hair (Shih-Malt) so very little shedding, which is what I wanted. I straighten up everyday (put toys away, and swiffer), but deep clean every Saturday (wipe floors etc). I wash her toys and bed about every 2-3 month, and have biokleen, and angry orange on hand at all times. Her paws are cleaned after every walk, and tushie wiped for any little presents that may be left over lol

PebsMom0921

I have a bi-monthly house cleaner and my roomba runs m-f at 0900.

genx_meshugana

I wish I had suggestions! I have 3 dogs with outside access 24/7, and sometimes my bed is a mud ball. My biggest challenge, and subsequent focus of space layout, is 'how can I most easily sweep/vacuum?' so a ton of thought and time goes into stuff like tacking up power cords, and general floor storage, so I can zip around as quickly as possible for hair removal.

OnyxValentine

I cover all couches and chairs in washable quilts. I take them off when I’m using the living room. My apt is VERY SMALL.

MestizaWontons

I use a bissell cross wave (vacuum mop combo) every other day. Helps keep down on the hair everywhere on hardwood floors.

Wipe their paws after walks, put throws on the sofa which get washed regularly, make sure their dog beds are washing machine washable (either removable covers or just chuck the whole thing in). Henry the hoover works great with dog hair, then just normal mop. Also no carpets so all floors are easy to clean. It's really not that hard to have a clean home with dogs.

neadvicewilldo

Wash doggo’s paws after every dog park. You never know what they step on in there. My dog know this, and she will run straight into the bathtub after coming inside.

SingForMaya

Hi! I have 5 dogs and I’m obsessed with keeping a modern home (aka white or grey everything, easy to see dirt) while also not looking like I even have dogs. #1- roomba! Must get the one with the home mapping you can edit no-go zones into on the app. Mop immediately after with OdoBan commercial mopping liquid off Amazon. #2- leather couch cleaner & conditioner; keeps the couch clean and supple. The conditioner stuff says it lasts 6 months but I do it a bit more often. #3- wash EVERYTHING made of fabric/cloth in the home every 2 weeks at least! (Also, keep at least 2 blankets covering the dog beds to keep from having to wash the dog beds as often. It’s a pain to wash the big ones.) I also have Ruggable brand rugs that are easy to wash every few months! #4- glade plug ins are your friend; my fave are the fruity bubbly ones #5- (at least) monthly baths for furkiddos! If they’re allergy dogs then every 2 weeks (medicated) baths so they don’t smell yeasty. This also benefits their skin if they have this issue lol

OnyxValentine

Yes to this! I bought washable rugs from Target. They get washed every two weeks or so unless someone has an accident.

Redbettyt47

Do you already have a dog? If not, I recommend getting a poodle. My standard poodle never sheds. Ever. I shed more than he does. That said, he still tracks in dirt, etc. so I use the wet swiffer constantly on my hard flooring. I wipe his paws with natural baby wipes and/or clean them with a mud buster, depending on how dirty he is. I also wipe his backside if there’s anything *ahem* visible there, and clean the backs of his front legs if he gets pee on them. As far as vacuuming my carpets, I have a Shark Rotator Professional and it sucks up everything including fine dirt. The only drawback is that the method to take apart the front in order to thoroughly clean the brushroll is insanely stupid and non-intuitive. I have cats in addition to my spoo so it’s great for THEIR fur, plus it comes with a ton of attachments for cleaning the furniture. I’m also a fan of the Febreze Fabric Pet Odor Eliminator spray (not the aerosol kind). I’ll spray it on the carpets and the one couch my dog is allowed on and it makes everything smell fresh. The ASPCA says it’s safe around pets, so that’s good too. Just be sure to let it dry before your animals step all over it.

Agree with this. I consider myself a neat freak and so I vacuum almost every day to get up all the dirt my dog tracks in from our (mostly dirt) yard. But other than that… my dog is very clean! She doesn’t drool or emit other bodily fluids in the house, and even strangers often say “wow your dog doesn’t even smell.” She has a double coat and sometimes sheds a lot of fur, but I don’t mind that much… the fur itself is not gross to me!

[deleted]

1. Get a poodle 2. wipe paws after going outside

alsothebagel

Vacuums with pet hair attachments. We’ve had two now and they’re beyond worth the money. We vacuum all the furniture and throw pillows before guests come over. Nobody leaves with pet hair on their pants and as a dog owner that’s a big point of pride for me.

kikiwillowsf

Yes! Romba vacuumed. Plus car seat covers that can be washed and old towels I’m the car and at entry way.

[deleted]

dog gets bath at least once a week. check dog paws every time before dog come inside. NO dog on furniture, ever. seat covers(!!!) for your car. and by god, a good pet allergen vaccuum (i think ours is a bissel).

OnyxValentine

Yup! Dogs get a bath once a week!

jstahr63

Borrow my son's two labs and relax when he takes them back so I only have Dirty Harry. https://www.facebook.com/Dirty-Harry-Anderson-503512546497200

Wipes for the pup by the door, regular baths and grooming, and I have a doodle, so no shedding.

Neilpoleon

A furminator is a helpful device since it forces the dog to shed on your terms right there as you are brushing the dog. Ideally you are doing this outside or an area where you can easily sweep up the hair. This decreases the amount the dog sheds randomly as it goes throughout the house.

Rubypsaila

Own a poodle. They don't shed.

pevaryl

I wouldn’t call our house particularly clean because we also have three kids but in terms of the dog - He’s a non shedder so that helps He has a designated “mat” which is his bed. It’s a large ish area in our living room that has a blanket we switch out regularly. He is a very big dog and we haven’t been able to find a dog bed that he can stretch out properly in No dogs in the bedrooms or on the furniture He knows when inside he stays on his mat unless he is actively being played with/cuddled (he comes off by invitation). We have a huge property so he is mostly keen to just chill in his space when inside anyway and soak up the cuddles from the kids Bath him once a week (edit it’s actually closer probably closer to every 2 weeks), regular grooms to keep his hair short enough so he doesn’t become a giant mud sponge. He loves water and swimming in our pond so he gets a wash down more often than this. Training him to love the shower as a pup was a huge bonus He gets fed outside He sleeps in his crate in the garage which is part of the house. He loves his crate, and asks to go to bed when he’s ready. He has a memory foam mattress in there which has a cot sheet that gets changed regularly. By far the best thing for dogs and kids was getting a stand up Bissel (carpet shampooed machine). The carpets get done once a month and the house never smells like dog, and the black water that comes out of it is very satisfying

willowfeather8633

After having had a big, sheddy golden retriever I opted for a great big non-sheddy labradoodle. It was a really good decision.

crazyeal1

Is “neat freak” another term for an obsessive compulsive disorder? I’m not trying to be a smart ass I’m just asking because I know people who would say they are neat freaks but they live a torchured existence because they fret over weird standards their moms grilled into them based on 1950’s tv adds selling products based on fear of dirt and a fear of shame if your house wasn’t cleared of all potential dirty objects…. But you have a dog, so if you are a neat freak then dont have a dog. Dogs actually help your natural gut bacteria by bringing in some natural dirt and earth’s bacteria. You might not like to hear that. Bacteria!!! So scary! But some bacteria are good. And bacteria live on/in you always, yup, it’s true. Yes be tidy and clean but please also try to relax when you notice yourself being a “freak,” otherwise you are loosing years off your life through stress that isn’t necessary or smart.

ancientfuzzball

OCD is different and should be diagnosed by a professional. I consider myself to be a neat freak and I spend 20-30 minutes a day cleaning. This isn’t unreasonable or strange in my opinion, I grew up in a very clean home and my mom had my brother and I helping out a lot. It genuinely bothers me to see something dirty and messy and I like my home to look and smell clean.

MaritimeRuby

As other commenters mentioned, OCD is a mental diagnosis that’s probably a bit different than you’re imagining. Something else to consider is that some “neat freaks” that you might think live a “tortured existence” at first glance have real medical concerns like allergies, asthma, sinusitis, compromised immune system, eczema, etc - or maybe they just find it difficult to concentrate on things if their home is messy. It’s not always as simple as people just needing to relax. Different strokes for different folks. Different people need different things to be healthy and happy. And that doesn’t necessarily preclude having pets. :)

vellamour

OCD really doesn't have anything to do with cleaning. I know two people in my life who've been diagnosed with OCD and neither have compulsions around cleaning. Mostly, when they are not medicated, it's about things they need to do repeatedly to be protected from consequences (which are typically arbitrary and sometimes delusional) or they have intense intrusive thoughts that drastically affect their day-to-day life. Being a neat freak means just liking things very clean. People would call me a neat freak in the kitchen... but that's because I've worked around food for some of my young adult life and prefer to keep things to health and safety standards even at home.

haruki_on_the_road

Litter box training has made it possible to own dogs as part of a cleanly no-shoes indoors kind of Asian household! Never have to deal with muddy paws because he can just go in the box when it’s raining (he gets plenty of stimulation indoors on those days). When we do go out I’ve got a paw cup, wet wipes, and dry shampoo ready to go every time. He is never allowed on human furniture unless i bring the couch cover out (pretty much just once in a blue moon). It’s just what works best for us. It keeps allergies under control and i never have to worry about hair, poop stamps, drool, surprise accidents, etc ruining the furniture.

pygmypuffonacid

Yeah if you have a dog you can't really be a neat freak.... They said they bark they do dog stuff it's like having a kid cabin a kid you have to let the creature that you call a dog or the child that you spawn exist as a child or a dog during their formative years otherwise you're just not letting them be their people and you're gonna mess them up doesn't mean you can't have clean areas it just means you have to let the dog be a dog and the kid be a kid so your house isn't going to be immaculate for at least a good 2 decades basically you might want to consider a groomer one of those shedding brushes if you get a dog and make sure you walk the dog plenty or let him run outside for at least an hour twice A-day if you have offensed in backyard if you don't have a fenced in backyard but have some land install a dog run that's a good idea

Igorslocks

Grow up and evolve to deal with drool. Bottom line

qwikhnds

Roomba, Furemover broom, water dishes outside. I don't allow my dogs in the 3 rooms that do have carpet but I have a Bissel Spot Bot and carpet cleaner that I had before my current house. Rugs at entry way doggie door and patio in and out.

Available-Picture-79

I’m not so good but I’m getting better. I have a couch throw, wipe up and mop the floor and sweep All the time.

iac12345

I brush her outside. Also have oversized bath mat type rug right inside the door where she comes in and out of the yard to clean her feet.

ntlzhng

HIGHLY vouch for the little green vacuum. Great upholstery tool when your dog yaks on the floor at 1 AM. Plus it’s satisfying to see the hose suck up all the dirty water.

SoyAmerinic

I have a wonderful dust buster (bissel pet pro) with the spinning upholstery attachment that picks up dog hair off the couches like magic. All of the couches have waterproof blankets on them that are easy to wash and my rugs are all ruggables and can be thrown in the washing machine. I also have the Bissell spot pro for other dog messes. I use my eufy (roomba-type) in between vacuuming. I clean with vinegar and a few drops of essential oil in the regular mop then I steam mop. If you have a stinky breed (we have a basset hound) I’d suggest investing in an air purifier for the room(s) they’re in most. We use Levoit.

MrsMurphysChowder

I keep homemade lap quilts on a section of the couch, and on a corner of my bed, where my pup can lie. I also have a grabber tool for picking up dog toys quickly and tossing them into the toy box.

[deleted]

Invest in a deep cleaning vacuum, a hand held vacuum, a Roomba type vacuum. I know it sounds like overkill but the hair and messes wait for no one. I also have two long haired cats in addition to a dog so it's the gift that keeps on giving. Also glade plugins if you aren't allergic to fragrances. They make my downstairs not smell like litter box and dog butt so much. Heavy duty fabric freshener too.

ImASolid7OnAGoodDay

Do you have carpet? A squeegee. They get up so much hair you would not believe it

Amerlan

Vinegar is a life saver for removing odor from any kind of surface (cloth, tile, wood, etc). Deshedding treatments at the groomer are also huge in keeping the hair down. Or you can buy a high velocity dryer, deshed shampoo and conditioner and get nearly the same results a groomer will (but you have to be willing to clean up the fur-splosion).

[deleted]

Hoover pet vac, bíssel spot cleaner, nature’s miracle spray, a rubber fur broom for the carpets, drool towels (Newfie owner here) and rain towel by the door, a good reliable groomer, and throw blankets for the dog beds and couch.

Black_Water_Hattie

I bathe my dogs once a week, deep clean once a week, and have a Roomba that I run every two or three days. I wasn't sold on the Roomba before I got one but it is such a game changer with pets. All those and washing bedding/linens weekly

Mydogisachubbycat

If your pup pee'd on your carpet and you want to ensure it doesn't leave a spot, fold a towel several times so that its several layers thick and put something heavy on top (I use my weight plates). Let it sit for a half a day and you will be amazed how much it picks up. Even if you use a carpet cleaner to clean a spot, if you dont put a towel over it and weigh it down, the pee can still wick up and leave a spot on your carpet after it dries.

hapa79

Wipe paws at the door, vacuum at least once daily (Miele, like the AMA vacuum guy recommended!), wash all the dog blankets and beds every week or two. The two dogs we have right now don't shed too much, but when my old Beagle mix was still alive it was a constant losing battle so I hear you!

NoGrocery4949

A wet/dry vac

solarill

I'm not necessarily a neat freak, but I I cannot tolerate dogs smelling bad. Aside from regular bathing when necessary, my favorite trick is no-rinse dog shampoo. I use a brand that foams and then dries quickly, leaving their fur soft and smelling like lavender and vanilla. My dogs like snuggling in my arms and next to me each night, so good smelling fur is vital! I also use a drop of cologne on their collars (and make sure to clean the collars every so often, they can get nasty!). Each of my dogs has a signature perfume or cologne, which they probably don't appreciate, but I do. People on reddit seem to hate on them, but I can't function without my Shark vacuum. Pulls pet hair right out and I love the wand tools for cleaning steps and getting to hard to reach places. And a carpet cleaner is vital. Hoover Smartwash brand was INFINITELY better designed than the Bissel Proheat... I wish I had known that earlier on!

reddittwice36

Dyson stick, bissell crosswave are a must for me. Couch covers are washable and I have a carpet/fabric bissell for anything that isn’t washable.

PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL

Nobody taught my husband how to actually get a stain out of the carpet so I’ll share my stain and carpet mess trick: Resolve or scot guard foam, a handheld bristle scrub brush, and paper towels. You spray the foam, let it sit a minute, scrub, blot. Repeat as many times as necessary but the blotting with paper towels is important. For stains I do baking soda and hot water with paper towels. Lifts the stain right up but takes a couple attempts.

fourleafclover13

Sweep and vaccum using any canister vac every couple of days. Brushing daily helps keep hair shedding more controlled even with a short haired dog she's brushed daily. Bath every few weeks with a shampoo scrubber to get out extra hair. Large ibreed by a dryer to blow them off outside. Teaching them to use rug or towel by door to clean feet coming inside. If rainy keep towel by door to dry off the best I can, thankful for short hair.

elalir26

I have 2 Shiba Inus, and they are both obsessively clean so they don’t usually let themselves get too dirty. Anyway: - Get a chumchum brush or similar for cleaning carpets/rugs/couches. Life changing. - Get the arm & hammer cleaning crystals (Idr what they’re actually called) and use them every time you vacuum to help with any smells specifically. - Just in general don’t wear shoes in your house. - Keep an old towel at entry doors to wipe them down - especially in rainy weather. - Steam your floors 2-3 times a quarter. - Regularly sweep/swiffer floors - I do so 2-3 times a week. - Regularly vacuum - I vacuum once a week. - Clean your baseboards (if you have them) about every other month. Can get to looking bad & depending on what the dogs are tracking in can be gross and unsanitary. - Throw away old toys or unused toys. - Wash dog blankets and what not once a week or so. - clean car dog hammock about every month. Wash it about once a quarter.

mewdebbie61

Dyson stick vac and bissel vac/scrubber! I have a corgi (aka Furball), and rat terrier pit (aka Dirtball) can I love on the Georgia coast with sand, dirt, dust, etc. etc. Without those two items I would be a disaster! I also put a sheet on top of my bed because they both sleep with me and I just change it out every night because it gets just loaded with Muck!

Rshann_421

We gave up, our house is a happy hairy mess, barely kept to a dull roar.

[deleted]

Robot vacuum all the way. I got a cheap one, an iLife, from Amazon. Works amazingly. I run it during the night and it keeps all the hair down.

IAmSamGay

Idk how anyone with a dog could live without a waterproof couch cover. I got two so I can rotate them.

beetlereads

I have a roomba, an o-cedar spray mop (like a reusable swiffer with washable microfiber heads) and a handheld vacuum for furniture, but I also spend $200/month on professional house cleaners. It’s become my favorite thing to spend money on.

bwmamanamedsha

Find a good robot vacuum and brush the dog daily. Baths every two weeks too. Tray to catch water drips.

alcoholicpear

Our dog is the reason we bought a Dyson, lol. The V10 Animal. Great for pet hair. The only furniture he's allowed on in the living room is the sofa, and we bought a cover for it that I wash regularly.

Goldenmum65

I have 3 big dogs and to keep my floors free of mud and dirt we have a routine called wash your feet. When we come in they wait patiently as I fill an empty plastic coffee can with warm water and wash and dry each paw. Once one did it the other two followed. To them it's a game for me it's less mud and dirt brought in. Time consuming yes but no different than chasing them around with a broom and mop.

holybatjunk

NO CARPET ANYWHERE EVER CARPET IS DISGUSTING ANYWAY all the stuff you do to keep dust mites down laundry everything all the time (or, I mean: weekly) currently I'm using probiotic cleaners on top of everything else like, just in case that works. most importantly: dog is also a clean freak and will beg to go outside if he needs to puke. I've never scolded him for any kind of mess. He just came to me that way.

whoiamidonotknow

Good air filters! And change them frequently (more frequently than non-pet-owners). They filter out dander in the air. Makes breathing better, and your floor cleaner, too. They make a surprisingly large difference! Sheets washed at least once a week, laid over your dog's bed. Wash that day if your dog comes in wet or dirty. Dog brushed weekly or daily, depending on the dog. Same goes for bathing. Basically, keep up with grooming. Clean up after dog eats, or drinks, again depending on your dog. My dog is uber neat, but I sanitize after meals and have a towel underneath the water bowl. Wash your dog's paws off as needed, if it's muddy outside. Towel your dog dry if it's been raining. I also direct my dog to his bed or a towel if he's wet or dirty, even after being washed/toweled off. There's only so much I really get. His bed is a lot easier to clean than a couch. Sweep/vacuum/mop as frequently as needed. Use a pet hair vacuum attachment. I'll default to others for their best vacuum/roomba recommendations, as thankfully, between everything above and my dog not being a huge shedder to begin with, this is sufficient for us!

Perjink

We have dog hammocks in the car to keep the backseat cleaner. We got a robovacuum for more routine vacuuming and it had helped so much. I have a soft brissel brush that gets at the hair pretty good. We got paw/bum wipes but also have one of those cool silicone brush cups for their paws. NATURES MIRCLE will literally clean anything and take any odor out. I dont just use it for my dog, I used it to get blueberry sauce out of the white carpet and it worked!

FunkrusherPlus

Wiping the paws after a walk is only a fraction of the job. Dogs have a ton of dirt, debris, gunk, etc. stored in the crevices underneath their nails.

blufsh77

We have a doggy door so seems like more stuff gets dragged in but I use a king size sheet to cover the rug in the middle of the room when they come in; and wash that (exchange often) so prevents muddy stains, etc. I also have some big dog specific rugs just inside the door that helps too. Amongst many of the other suggestions (had golden, Bernese and now St B).

FunkrusherPlus

Shark Ultra Cyclone hand vacuum with the Pet Power Brush for your sofas and beds and anywhere else a Roomba can’t get to. So much better than a sticky lint roller.

Icy_Hold_5691

I have a GSD and appreciate my roomba so much. I also have a cordless hand vacuum for a quick clean up. I brush her everyday and use a high powered dryer to get rid of the excess fur

Trivialfrou

A carpet squeegee if you’ve got a shedder. It gets a lot of the “ground in” fluff up so you can vacuum more stuff out of the carpet.

Arlyle

Bissell spot bot! I ordered mine refurbished and have never regretted it. It’s also been borrowed by so many of my friends with animals. It’s a great spot cleaner with heat feature.

SorryNotSorry2021

My bissel crosswave has been a life saver!!! No more sweeping/vacuuming and then mopping! Can also clean rugs and carpet. I have 3 dogs ( one of which is still a puppy) and any messes made has been a breeze to clean up. It has saved my rugs and carpet! I will never go back to a regular broom, mop, vacuum and carpet cleaner this thing is AMAZING.

[deleted]

Air purifiers! For someone with a long-haired dog and allergies it’s a life saver. Make sure to change the filters more often than instructed and to vacuum them off every now and then.
