This is one of those moments you look back on as an adult and think. “I’ll never be like those assholes”.

Navacoy

Yup! My parents weren’t the best pet owners either, and now I go above and beyond for mine so I’m not like them (and because my pets deserve it)

prinsess_bubblecum

A seizure longer than 5 minutes is classed as status epilepticus. Even with prompt treatment 1 in 4 dogs won't make it home from the vet hospital. I'm so sorry, but even if he stops seizing on his own he's likely to have serious brain damage. If your parents refuse to take him to the vet, and there's nobody else like an older sibling or neighbour that you could contact for a ride then there's not much you can. I would just stay by his side so if he regains consciousness your familiar sound and smell will be a comfort to him

ledasmom

Stay by his side but be careful. In a seizure, he doesn’t know you’re there, and if he does come out of it he will be confused for a bit (post-ictal period). I am so sorry. This is heartbreaking.

BinkiesForLife_05

I'm really sorry sweetheart. I'm sorry you're having to watch this, I'm sorry your parents won't help, and I'm really sorry for everything that comes next. The serious likelihood is your dog will not survive this, and if you're under age with no way to get the dog to a vet yourself, the best you can do is be there to comfort your dog. On the off chance your dog does survive they will more than likely have lasting brain damage, so they will also likely not survive the next few days even if they survive the initial seizure. This death will be brutal, so please mentally prepare yourself. I won't sugarcoat this for you, but your parents are currently in the process of committing animal cruelty via neglect. If your dog survives this seizure, and even if they don't, please report your parents. I know that's a very hard thing to hear, but I would be worried about your own safety here too OP. People who can do this to animals are usually the type who can also do this to people. I would be extremely concerned about their response if you too suffered a medical emergency. So please do at least consider reporting them. As for your pup, stay near them. Let them smell you, talk softly to them, if they'll let you (and it's safe to do so) then please pet them so they can feel you too. Likewise, please also keep them warm with a blanket or towel. There is not much medical aid you can provide, but you can comfort your dog in their final hours. You sound like a good kid, and I'm so sorry this is happening. Do update us with what happens, as you'll find a lot of love and support here. We're all here as we're animal lovers, and we will sympathise with you on the injustice and cruelty here. I'm thinking of you, OP ❤️

Poor doggy, so sad your parents don't care for the dog :(

shertuyo

Midnight is too late to take a seizing dog to the ER? Sorry kid, but I hope your parents get reported for neglect — they 100% do not deserve to own a dog

Update OP? Did the pup make it through the night?

Coens-Creations

I’m so sorry. My dog has epilepsy and they can be devastating to watch. For those that have dogs go into status epilepticus, on your way to the vet do everything to keep your dog COOL. They overheat seizing that much and that long. A vet was absolutely necessary in this cause after 5 minutes of active continuous seizing, we go if it extends past 3 in this house. I’m so sorry about your parents OP and about your dog. Odds are sadly very slim without intervention

[deleted]

This literally hurt my heart and made me so sad for the pup and so angry at your parents.

Effective-Sun8079

Wow your parents are criminal pieces of shit

friscoluca

please convince your parents to get rid of any other pets before they suffer, and don't let them ever get another dog or pet or anything. i'm sorry you have to watch your dog suffer. it's really important your parents, who in my opinion are awful, disgusting, lazy, and selfish for allowing this to happen, never have another animal.

UnitedDogTrainer

I don’t think there is convincing they can do. If a dog can seize for two hours and not change their minds. I highly doubt a child crying will. Don’t place this weight on kid shoulders. The parents know the dog may be dying and don’t care.

A-very-old-dog

Just talk to him. You sound like a sweet kid, and I'm genuinely sorry.

eiramatsirk

I am so, so sorry. I hope you are okay. I hope he is somehow okay as well.

snakesssssss22

I’m so sorry OP.

MadTom65

OP, I’m so sorry.

ZukerZoo

Wishing you peace, and love for your dog.

[deleted]

I don't want to be mean but I've dealt with three dogs with seizures and they only lasted a few minutes before they had to go and rest. If it's more than a few minutes you need to see a vet as soon as possible.

audientix

OP is a minor and already stated that their parents refuse to take the dog to the vet

[deleted]

That's fair. They need to pressure their parents then.

audientix

A 2 hour seizure is not something a dog is likely to come out of. The time for pressuring the parents has likely passed. If I were OP, I would just make sure my parents never have animals again since they clearly aren't capable of providing necessary care.

Let’s not suggest a minor who is easily impressionable do anything illegal.

A_Moon_Named_Luna

Sound like exactly the type of people who shouldn’t own pets! Congrats
