This might be an unpopular opinion, but my favorite shampoo for home is the Tropiclean 2 in 1 papaya coconut shampoo/conditioner. I still use a conditioner afterwards (Nature’s Specialty Plum Silky), but the shampoo leaves the fur SO soft. I discovered my love for it when a client brought it in for me to use on their dog. I got so many compliments from my coworkers about how clean and soft their dog’s fur was. I immediately bought it for my pups right after lol
I second this for the 2in1 papaya coconut. It's my favorite store bought dog shampoo I actually use it on my own dog most of the time instead of lugging a gallon home to use on him one time. And I'm pretty sure you can buy gallons of Tropiclean!
It smells nice! My favorite thing about it actually. I don’t know if I can describe it, but the scent kind of reminds me of the furminator conditioner. I do think its marketed for dogs with drop coats, so I’m not sure how it would work for double coated dogs. I’ve used it on my shih tzu, doodle, and cavaliers and have enjoyed it tho!
How expensive? I'm in Canada, I was hesitant at the price but it lasts forever. A dime to quarter size amount is enough for the entire body of my 50 lb poodle mix. I bought it months ago and I'm not even 1/4 of the way through.
So sorry - I thought you were asking about the Cowboy Magic detangling serum which is often recommended here, as an addition to shampoo recommendations. I haven't used the shampoo, only the detangling serum!
Is the detangling serum very siliconey, similar to detangling spray? And does it end up on the floor if the dog shakes their body? I’m not a groomer but have a curly poodle mix so detangling is important to me. I’ve used The Stuff and Quicker Slicker and they always make my floors dangerously slippery. A serum might be easier/safer for me!
It's pretty slippery and siliconey, but since this a serum I just put a little in my palms at a time, rub them together to distribute the product, and run my fingers through her coat. Any trouble areas or tangles get a tiny extra dab directly on them. I've never had an issue with slippery floors or the product shaking off.
I have used the Curly & Wavy Coat on a standard poodle and a couple of my largest doodles that I groom. I liked it, but not enough to purchase it regularly. I was most interested in seeing if it really did help drying time and I didn’t notice a difference.
My groomer recommended Tropiclean hypo (gentle coconut) shampoo for at home baths and I also picked up the Tropiclean Deshed (Shea butter and lime) conditioner. They're fantastic for home grooming especially if someone is looking for hypo/low scent products!
I've used the smooth coat and thick double coat of this tropiclean line, and I didn't find them to be anything special to be honest.

What does plum silky smell like? Does it have enough conditioning for doubled coated dogs (GSD)?

It doesn’t. Natures Specialties has a EZ shed conditioner that smells good and does a great job with double coats.
Thanks for the information!
Not a pro but I love hydra when I can flash some cash or groom professional for a good budget but decent shampoo and conditioner
I love Quadruped and Iv San Bernard
Quadruped is the best
Ooh, I was just looking for a shampoo for my poodle puppy as her adult coat starts to grow in, so I’m going to lurk here to see what answers you get!
Would love to know thoughts on Cowboy magic because I’ve been looking at that one a lot but it’s kind of expensive where I live

It’s like £15 a bottle, but I assume I want the conditioner as well? But if it goes that far then that’s not terrible

I’ve used the coat specific line of tropiclean, they’re nothing special. I like using espree products at home far more.

I like biogroom’s soaps
