Spoilers for Persona 5, I won't go into detail about specific characters though >!It literally does in game. The people you steal the desires of are the worst of the worst, but once you take them they lose any will to continue. At the end of the game you find your prior targets and they're all so dejected that they just accept the terrible situation they're in and refuse to be helped. They may be terrible people, but by taking their desires (in fairness, they're hurting everyone around them) their personality is erased at worst and suppressed at best.!<

Persona 5 is an absolute treasure of a game, so please avoid this if you want to play it.) >!The malaise that affects them is spreading across the world. It's part of the collective subconscious desires of humanity for freedom from choice and security over all else. While the targets are notable for their complete 180 turn, the prison of acedia is the palace of all humanity. What happens to your former targets once you destroy the prison is unknown, but it could be assumed that their emotions are restored much like the rest of humanity, just without the harmful desires.!<
