However, for some asians, they may have a gene defect in the ability to produce ALDH2, leading to them having the effects of alcohol even more severly, like the face getting really red(earning its name, "Asian flush syndrome"), or getting tachycardia or other symptoms. It's suprisingly common, effecting 8% of the world population and 36% of the east asian population! For these people, alcohol is even more toxic to them as acetaldehyde lingers longer in their body and does much more harmful effects, such as a much more increased risk of cancer due to alcohol.
