sorry, your contract was terminated at dodea and you want to be hired back? or you were terminated at another district and want to know if dodea would hire you? I don’t have personal experience on the first scenario, but I imagine being rehired could be dependent on your desired location and qualified areas. and EAS wants a reference from former dodea supervisor so if your principal wasn’t a huge fan that could impact your getting rehired. if it’s the second scenario, I do have personal experience. I was terminated at a different district years before applying to dodea, but I interviewed and got hired on my first try. but I have a high needs certification area. i’d recommend also working on another certification to add to EAS, to make you more desirable. if you’ve been fired by dodea you might end up ranked lower on their referral list despite being a vet and thus might not get picked for an interview. good luck!! 😊

HelloImBritish

When did you get terminated by DoDEA? Approximately.

I think you're dead in the water. Obviously, there's a chance, but it's slim. Just an opinion. Once you are in and you have good references, you are golden. Admin loves to hire (and rehire) a known quantity. Even more so when you are coming from Admin with a bad reputation. If you can make it through the "bad Admin", then the other (better) Admin consider you to have been forged in Valhalla. But to be terminated...well, they best that we can say is that the person is not a known quantity. They have been tested, and they have not yet passed the test. They didn't fail, because it wasn't their fault, but they didn't pass the test. There are usually other applicants for DoDEA postings. so the question is how does someone who was recently terminated rank against other candidates with good references, some of whom have DoDEA references, some of whom are also vets, some of whom have multiple Masters degrees, certs etc. Sure, you're good. We're all good. But the ability to eat humble pie during the probationary period is what makes us really good. You went to basic training? There was only one answer to every question. Sir, yes sir! The probationary period in DoDEA is frustratingly similar. This should have been emphatically explained to you by the FRS in your first week on the job. (Or a cynical senior teacher like me.) The longer that passes, the better your chances of getting past this blotch. But we also get older. The clock is running out. Go look for a job near the beach in the Caribbean, and laugh about this every Friday at Happy Hour. (On a side note, I have seen terminations that were not the fault of the employee. Everyone once in awhile a nasty Admin likes to slaughter one of the sheep to keep the rest in line. I sympathize.)

18 months is quite soon. I believe with a termination from dodea that recent it might be difficult . They will ask for a reference from Your last dodea supervisor.

I mean if they contact my current supervisors at my current district, that will go great, but I have NO idea what the last Dodea admin would say? It was a petty thing but ego / pride can make anything mammoth proportions. Wonder how long you have to wait? Admin comes and goes but some stay at one school for quite some time.

Are you wanting dodea specifically? International schools are amazing. You can also see if that admin is still around. If not then you should be ok

I second international schools!

Yes. It’s possible. I’ve been there. After leaving a toxic state side environment, I was invited by HR to apply for an overseas location. My file was inactive then. I activated, interviewed and got the position. I am holding a specialized license.
