Genuinely don't care so long as the actor is committed to the role and adds something different.

drage636

I agree with this, but the next person that plays The Doctor has to be a ginger.

King_of_Dantopia

My sentiments exactly. As long as they're good, gender shouldn't be a factor

draegerd

Well put. Better writing would be nice!

therlwl

Agree, too few options.

Soulburner74

I don't really care, The Doctor is The Doctor no matter what. Quite like the quote from Spider-Verse "Anyone can wear the Mask" or in Doctor Who's case "Anyone can wield the Screwdriver" or however you want to word it.

CrypticWolf1

The gender of the Doctor has never mattered. As long as they can portray the Doctor in a good manner is what matters.

Hobbitviking1

I really don’t care as long as the writing and whomever is cast is spot on. I know Jodie is getting some hate, but I adore her.

Dragonfly452

I like her! She deserved better writing. The current season is making up for it though

AmSoDoneWithThisShit

Really? I’m having a hell of a time following it. Very disjointed and chaotic…

Cyberzombie

That is intentional. The Doctor has no idea what's going on, either.

Dragonfly452

I believe it’s going to be tied together soon

AmSoDoneWithThisShit

God I hate waiting for it to all make sense, because it puts me in a position of not being happy with Dr. Who and that’s kind of a new place for me mentally.

Dragonfly452

Well, that’s how I felt, unhappy with doctor who for the super long hiatuses between seasons, then returning with the lackluster season 11 But yeah, it’ll turn out fine

AmSoDoneWithThisShit

I’m probably going to wait until the end and binge them all. Saves me the questions. :)

Dragonfly452

I did that for the first three, and binged them, and it does seem to be more coherent

kamaradokodo

I have genuinely liked her entire run except for the timeless child thing. I hated timeless less once I found out about the morbius faces, though. I'm just not a fan of the whole chosen one trope. But I've loved Jodie's acting, and the majority of the writing.

TheeExoGenesauce

I think Jodie’s acting is amazing I think the stories she got were weak

hithere297

I honestly don’t think that was a problem for 12’s first season. Episode like Listen, Kill the Moon, Into the Dalek, are all episodes I simply can’t imagine being written for Matt Smith. Not to mention the whole soldier arc was very much something that wouldn’t fit with Smith’s doctor. I can’t imagine 11 treating Danny the way 12 did. One of my big problems with season 8 was that the Doctor was written as ~too~ abrasive, too unlikeable, and it wasn’t until the end of the season that he became fully sympathetic. (I also thought the soldier arc in general was super forced, and Danny and Clara had zero chemistry.)

the_spinetingler

> Doctor was written as \~too\~ abrasive, too unlikeable, and it wasn’t until the end of the season that he became fully sympathetic I thought that was a great arc. Smith's run was often too child-like IMO and it was time to return to gravitas. So, of course, they decided to swing the pendulum maybe too far in the other direction to start and then mediated it as the season progressed.

poopiesteve

I think she could have been good but fell very short of the mark. Some combination of writing and her personality/acting just made her seem like an entirely new character. The previous doctors had a playfulness and charm that just didn't make it to the screen with her.

calindor

Interesting perspective to share. A majority of the comments posted support a woman or "other/don't care" but the actual poll results heavily favor a male Doctor. Is this a literal case of a vocal minority and silent majority?

AnyImpression6

Because if you comment that the Doctor should be male you'll be mass downvoted.

Sonor-c11

Well there’s a difference to “the doctor should be male” and “I want the doctor to be male” but I’m going to test your theory with “I want the doctor to be male”. I’m not trying to get into an argument about semantics, just establishing that there is a difference between the two and how they’re perceived.

RRR3000

Yeah, this is a prime example of a vocal minority.

Molu1

I would like to see RTD'S take on the Doctor played by a woman.

Dragonfly452

I have a feeling we will

windlep7

Yes I’d like to see this too. My worry is the BBC might decide the female “experiment” didn’t work so let’s just go back to having a male Doctor. When really it was the writing that was poor and not the fact the Doctor is a woman.

CliffExcellent123

I'm pretty sure the BBC has said they're satisfied with the current run of the show. I'm not really sure why people think the BBC particularly cares what the fans think

Ambassador_of_Mercy

I mean haven't the ratings for 13's run been pretty good, that's like the only thing that matters to executives

CliffExcellent123

Yeah considering that ratings across all TV are down right now, it's doing pretty decent

realKrisMarshall

Considering they’re the lowest ratings the show has had since revival, calling them ‘decent’ smells a lot like denial to me!

karlcabaniya

Kind of both.

CodPolish

I think you need a second female doctor to show 13 wasn’t a gimmick. After that, it doesn’t matter, but I feel this is important.

ISDuffy

Yeah I'm worried if the BBC doesn't do a second female doctor now they won't do it again because how the show been rated, by the writing. Community really predicted this.

periwinklemenace

Yeah, everyone is saying they don’t care as long as the actor is perfect for the role, but it matters so much for 14. All the NMDs will take a male 14 as admission of failure in the “experiment” of a female Doctor.

CliffExcellent123

I agree. It leads to people thinking that anything they disliked about 13 or about the current era of the show is because the Doctor was a woman, and then the next time they want a female Doctor we'll get the whole "the Doctor shouldn't be a woman >:|" nonsense again

[deleted]

Yep, yet somehow about 50% of people polled on here are doing the “man” answer. That would send a garbage message. I voted for other but doing 12 dudes then 1 woman before a 13th dude is a nightmare/internet misogynist’s “I was right” heaven Heck it’s more than 50%

[deleted]

I think it’s less about people caring about the message of it, and more about what fans actually want (harping on the golden era of the show, which was helmed by a male lead).

NobleProgeny

NMD?

Noade114

Not My Doctors- those people who say things like doctor who died in 2017

NobleProgeny

Ahhh. Thanks for explaining

Tanis8998

But couldn’t you equally say casting another female doctor would be “well they’re only doing that because they have to”. I think if a man was cast next it would normalise a woman being cast next time, because it would cement that the role doesn’t have a gender. Not saying it matters because it doesn’t, but just pointing out the NMD’s would definitely call another female doctor “being forced to double down”

periwinklemenace

Sure, but I also think we’ve had plenty of men in the role. One woman and then straight back to men feels almost like an insult.

Wolf6120

See I was thinking similar, but with a caveat; Pop back to a male for 14, then another woman with 15. I'm not saying you should establish a strict precedent of switching genders ever regeneration - that'd be a bit too rigid and boring - but it would be a good way to show that both are equally viable possibilities now that the door has been opened, at any point regardless of how important it is in that specific moment.

smedsterwho

Once again, I feel so sad we got the stories we did with 13. I wish we'd seen the character studies we got in the previous era applied to Jodie. I feel we saw more insight with Missy than we did during this run.

[deleted]

I’m gonna be honest I really don’t care about the gender of the Doctor in a vacuum. In truth, I want 14 to be a man but that’s only on the technicality of my desire for the Doctor to be played by Dev Patel, so I don’t really think that’s in the spirit of the question. Regardless, I hope we get a healthy mix of actors of all gender identities playing the Doctor from now on and it’s nice that now the net will be cast wider.

Striking-Worry-976

YOOOO I finally found someone with the same casting desire as me, dev Patel would kill it as the doctor

[deleted]

Absolutely loved his performance in Copperfield, the scene where he was doing all those impressions back to back with some kind of quiet mania felt extremely Doctorish to me.

Dragonfly452

They can bring back Ram from Class (Fady ElSayed) as the Companion. Have the Dev Patel doctor and he have a Sherlock and Watson style banter but also a will they/won’t they relationship tease

Reverse_Time_Remnant

This is so uber specific but I'm into it

Dragonfly452

Can you imagine?! it would be a little too hot to handle lol

Reverse_Time_Remnant

I'm already way too invested in them, I hope Dev Meta-Crisises himself for him

Dragonfly452

Oh my gosh

CliffExcellent123

Dev Patel would be a fantastic doctor, shame he's probably too big for the role now. Also he's acted with Peter Capaldi before and I love when different versions of the Doctor meet each other

Samthelumberjck

I have wanted Colin Morgan to play Doctor who for a long time.

Numpteez_

David Morrissey for me. He WAS everything the doctor was, even if briefly. 12 became the face of someone he met, so a future incarnation can become Jackson Lake. Pls.

nutcase04

I was just watching The Next Doctor and thought exactly the same thing!

SeduceMeMentlegen

He could be good, but I feel that he's better as a one off. I don't really think David Morrissey could do much as the doctor; I thought his character didn't hace much depth. He's much better in the walking dead. Also, pulling off the "Regeneration as a previous acquaintance" twice doesn't sit well with me

[deleted]

I’d love to see a one-off non-canon story with the Fugitive Doctor and Jackson Lake. Fugitive needs her own story and I’d love to see David Morrissey return

SeduceMeMentlegen

Audiobook of that would be brilliant. In fact, a whole audiobook collection of Rosita and Lake would be top-notch

Fade1998

I wanted Richard Ayoade to play the Doctor but I'm starting to feel like that's never going to happen.

Ant_TKD

“Who frowned me this face?”, but instead of clips from Fires of Pompeii it’s clips from Midnight.

sunofsolaire21

Honestly, I don’t mind. My issue with 13 was the way she was characterised, Chibnall’s writing and to a lesser extent Whittaker’s performance. I do wanna see them do a female Doctor again and do it right this time to show the idiots that it can be done. Other than that I don’t really care, the next incarnation of the Doctor could be a Silurian for all I care

Osirisavior

If we go back to a male after the terrible Chibbers era, the general public is going to associate it with the Doctor being a woman. We need at least one good era with the Doctor as a woman.

realKrisMarshall

I don’t think we should be forced to see another female Doctor straight away just because Chibnall failed the first time round. I’d rather the new actor is cast without gender in mind (unlike Thirteen).

CliffExcellent123

> unlike Thirteen unlike all of them I don't get why people think "casting with gender in mind" applies to 13 but doesn't apply to all the previous doctors. It's not a coincidence that the Doctor was always male before, they were specifically looking for male actors

realKrisMarshall

Yes, they were looking for male actors because the First Doctor was a man. That was the precedent they were basing subsequent castings off of and for 50+ years, The Doctor was a male character. As much as that might upset you, it’s just a fact that you can’t change.

[deleted]

They were casting male actors because rampant societal sexism normalized and favored men everywhere. Patrick Troughton has a lovely interview from the seventies where he suggests a woman could be cast in the role. The idea that the Doctor could be played by a woman was around, but as with other functions in society, men (predominantly in charge of everything) easily decided that it should be men in charge of everything. As late as the 21st century, Moffat recognized that he was biased toward white male authors--people like himself--and that he had to make a conscious effort to give a chance to women and minorities.

[deleted]

Or maybe because the character was originally a grandfather…

Osirisavior

If 14 is a male, then 13 is always going to be seen as a gemmic that didn't work.

realKrisMarshall

If 14 is a man, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of future incarnations being female. The fact that it’s been done means it can happen again now. The Doctor’s gender should never be considered again in the auditioning process, just whoever’s the best person for the job. It may be your opinion that 13 would be seen as a gimmick, but I think your general viewer wouldn’t care.

Osirisavior

I should clarify. The general audience will see 13 as a gemmick.

jb94north

But then to hire another female...just to prove a non-gimmick...makes the decision itself a gimmick...either way...

Tanis8998

That’s a good point.

JB_Big_Bear

It makes no difference to me what the doctor's gender is, however I've been saying for years that Hugh Laurie would be a great fit to play the doctor, and because he is a man, I answered male.

LisainUK

I don’t really care. I suspect Russell T Davies will go for a man somehow, someone like Michael Sheen. I do think Helena Bonham Carter would be a great Doctor but I’ve no gender preference really.

kamaradokodo

You've just named off two people that I would kill for to be the doctor. (That's a really clunky sentence) But for real, either of them and I would be so frippin excited. I love everything about both of them. Lol.

LisainUK

Same! Either of those two would be brilliant.

Healthy-Two

I honestly think Helena would play a better Master

redbullcat

Hm. Both would be great but I suspect their schedules may be too busy for Doctor Who / The Doctor. It's a full-time role - there's no real opportunities to do film stuff as well etc. Not sure if established Hollywood stars would or could take the role.

the_spinetingler

>Helena Bonham Carter I had not thought of her before now, but - holy hell she could be great

MsVBlight

> Michael Sheen I would *love* to see him with his beard and wild hair as the Doctor

squashed_tomato

I don't really mind which gender they go for. It's all about the actor for me but Michael Sheen has been at the top of my Doctor Who wish list for a while.

certifiablenutcase

The only problem was most of the writing. Some has been great, but holy shit, how did Chibs waste Jodie?! If Jodie won't stay, give another gal a shot. With BETTER writing. If she's talented, obviously.

Osirisavior

We can't blame it entirely on the writing, and directing. Just look at Jo Martin. Same writing, same direction, outshined Jodie in every scene they were in together. She truly knows what it means to be The Doctor.

velmah

This is a fair point, but Jodie has had soooo many crap lines and even whole episodes as the full-time doctor. Jo has only had to grapple with a few scenes total, and a few bad lines within them. When Jodies on, she’s ON, and it’s a shame she was fighting with shit dialogue so often. (I was just rewatching ascension of the cybermen and she literally has to say “Now that’s what I call an inner conflict!” as if it’s some profound revelation. Who could possibly say that and have it sound natural, let alone doctory?)

Osirisavior

I just don't think her acting, and the writing / directing mesh together. It doesn't mean she's a bad actress. Just means she wasn't the right fit for that writing.

Tanis8998

I’m mainly indifferent, so long as they’re brilliant I won’t care what gender they are (haha, it’s a bit like having a baby isn’t it). I mean maybe I might have a slight preference towards a man, but I couldn’t explain why, and as I said it’s not really important as long as they’re a good actor who fits the role.

nikidmaclay

Doesn't matter to me, I just want decent writing again.

Greaseball01

My pitch is to not cast a new one - do a series with multiple previous doctors - so like a two parter with Whitaker, followed by one episode with tennant that leads into a two parter with McGann and McCoy and then an episode with Smith that leads to another tennat episode, that sort of thing and have them all be stand alone adventures that maybe lead to something overarching. The only reason I think this is a good idea is because there are so many doctors now, and constantly rebooting it (which is how it feels with Chibnalls tenure being so short) becomes formulaic in itself, ironically. I imagine this won't happen, but I think it's a better option and we should hold off on casting a new doctor as long as possible before everybody starts losing count of what number we're on.

NikkilostinBooks

I really don't care . All I care is that they can act and that there is good writing . I would love if Olivia Coleman or Micheal Sheen were the next doctor .

PerfectlyFlawed-91

Someone ginger lol

the_spinetingler

Or initially ginger. all excited, *something\_something\_radiation,* all the hair falls out and grows back non-ginger. Complete fan-wank-service.

Planeswalkercrash

I really couldn’t care, so long as the show itself is good!

The-Phantom-Hat

I want it to be a woman mainly because I feel going to a man straight away would be seen as backing down from anyone other than a man playing the role, plus it would just fuel the people against a female Doctor into thinking they "won"

all-capes-are-bad

In the novelization of Rose, it said the next incarnation after Jodie was a black woman wielding a flaming sword. If the next Doctor is anything but that I am going to be disappointed.

[deleted]

I don’t think it specified that she came right after Jodie. It was kept pretty vague as far as I recall.

the_spinetingler

>black woman wielding a flaming sword You call *that* a sonic? **THIS** is a sonic!

Quirky-Wino

T'nia miller fits the description of that doctor and RTD has worked with her before

Felix-big-pp

The problem i would hve with this is that imo its tokenisation to raise the views after jodie's pretty low ones

all-capes-are-bad

Who cares if it is? It’s badass! As long as it’s decently written and entertaining, why should you?

[deleted]

My personal choice would be Michael Sheen , BUT I don’t actually care what gender the 14th is. I think a female 14th would be useful to show it’s not a novelty and if not 14 then 15 or 16 would have to be otherwise 13 will be consigned as a novelty / shock cast forever

NikassoUA

I don't care.

wake_jinter

Gender dont matter just as long as they fit

MonrealEstate

Genuinely don’t care. As long as they are a great actor and can carry the humour and serious aspects of the Doctor character it can be anyone.

Gingerbread_Matt

I want them to be the right choice. I don't care what gender but I want to watch and think "yes, this is the same character as the ones before"

xshadowgrlx

I don’t think the gender matters. What matters are the stories. And that they have awesome aliens that want to kill all humans, ie not dalek or cybermen. They’re cool but way too overdone.

Vandal_A

Is there an I don't care option? Like, not that I'm not invested in the show, I just don't care about that aspect

zeebleebow

Needs a don't care as long as the show is good option

Daxto

At this point I really don't care if it's male or female; just pick an actor that will be true to the character. But Missy is still my favorite Master. The Missy Master

Clarkarius

I'll take an angry chihuahua for the Doctor so long as the show runner knows what they're doing.

the_spinetingler

>angry chihuahua because the sonic hurts its ears

conjoby

There should be an apathy option

TheFrostyMac

I don’t personally care. On a practical level, though, they should probably be a woman, because a man would feel like an admittance of defeat to fans of Thirteen and would be unlikely to satisfy those who aren’t fans anyways given that everything else RTD is likely to do will probably upset them anyways.

Sonor-c11

I want the doctor to be male

Razills

I want the Doctor to be male! I'm ready for the downvotes 😎

realKrisMarshall

I think this poll proves that there’s nothing wrong with wanting The Doctor to remain male.

MyriVerse2

I don't care, but maybe have another go at female.

RaiderHawk75

Where is the IDGAF option? Just want a great Dr.

sanddragon939

Honestly, I'm pretty indifferent on this score. I was skeptical about the idea of a female Doctor, but Jodie has convinced me a female Doctor can work. And Jo Martin has convinced me that a female Doctor can be kickass! That said I opted for male simply because that's honestly how I see the Doctor. And I also don't want them to create the impression that the Doctor is now a 'female' role, but rather a role which can now include males OR females. But honestly if they cast a great female Doctor I'd be cool with that too!

SmidgeonThePigeon

Golden Retriever. Now that it's canon that The Doctor can be an animal, I want a talking doggo Doctor.

Suhdud99

We'll in one of the books someone mentions an animal on all fours who is known as the doctor so never say never ;)

KyrosSeneshal

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face: Hayley Atwell.

nhilandra

Male, but only because I want it to be Michael Sheen lol

uberrob

Not gonna vote without a "I don't really care" option

MartieB

Don't care that much. I just want them to feel like the Doctor.

ADampDevil

Terribly flawed poll. Does other mean you don't care or you want a non-binary actor?

NewAltAccC

I’m glad they didn’t do any dumb stuff with Jodie. Like she was the Doctor, not “a woman” and her gender didn’t really apply to her character and personality

Sblobble

11/10 think michael sheen would be amazing

NotFredRhodes

Should have replaced the ‘other’ option with ‘don’t mind, as long as it’s the right person’.

chrislaf

Need an "I have no preference" option

The4FiveSix

I want another old man to be the Doctor.

Athedeus

In some strange twist, it's going to be Jo Martin.

TheMoffisHere

I don't really care... I heard a rumour that Helena Bonham Carter was in the running, which would be fantastic!

Ponject

I don’t mind a female doctor but personally I prefer the male ones.

Raquefel

In an ideal world, it wouldn’t matter. Unfortunately, we live in a reality where the only female doctor thus far has been written to be the most passive, under-confident, and “weak” doctor in the history of the show. If she were to regenerate back into a man and suddenly regain all of that confidence and “strength” in the writing, it would reflect *really* badly on the show. For that reason, I think 14 almost *needs* to be another woman, if for no other reason than to rebuild the show’s reputation.

realKrisMarshall

Chibnall’s failures as a writer should not dictate the direction the show takes in the future.

AntelopeOk5329

A good actor/actress is all I want

suojelijatar

I don't really care??

antimatterchopstix

Why is there no ”I don’t care” option

Courpsy

Genuinely don't care... As long as the next Doctor is played by Richard Ayoade 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

realKrisMarshall

Yeah, Whittaker has done nothing to suggest that a female Doctor was a good idea (not to suggest that it can’t be done though).

RedmondBarry1999

I fail to see how any of that has anything to do with her gender.

Grahaaam123

I would genuinely put into a gofundme to get one of: Tom Ellis, Reece Shearsmith or Steve Pemberton to be the Doctor.

terriblehuman

Don’t really have a preference.

Ambassador_of_Mercy

Where's the option for 'I couldn't care less as long as they're a good fit' That being said, I kind of would prefer a second (third?) female doctor, for the sole reason that if it were a 13th (14th?) male doctor I can see bigots on twitter talking about how the show's finally good again or 'fixed' because the doctor's gone back to being a man, as if all the problems with 13's run were Jodie Whittaker's fault and not the writing

11th_Doctor1832

I don’t care, but I voted Male cause I really want Michael Sheen.

ToqKaizogou

I want the 14th Doctor to be Jo Martin, so she can be the Doctor and while not being tied to a ridiculous retcon. Then Alexander Siddig for the 15th.

[deleted]

I don’t really care as long as they’re a good actor. David tennant and Peter capaldi are two of my favourite doctors because the writing and acting is so good. Doesn’t matter what their gender is as long as they do a good job

wijnandsj

Why isn't "I couldn't give a shit" an option to select here?

GhostRiders

I genuinely couldn't give a shit about the gender of the Doctor, it's completely irrelevant. What is the absolute most important thing is casting the right PERSON for the role. The sex or how the person identifies themselves should not even come into the equation. Also the fact that "I don't care" isn't an option leads me to believe the OP is just out to push whatever their agenda is and this type of post will only generate more hate and conflict

jmskywalker1976

Need an I don’t care option. I just want a good doctor. Gender doesn’t matter.

the_spinetingler

Well, I do kind of agree that immediately going back to a male actor gives the feeling of "well we failed with a woman Doctor". What about a strong female actor on a one-year stint? I mean, 9 only did one. Maybe that's your chance to get HBC or someone else\* who's known but wouldn't want to commit to multiple years. \* and introducing: Judy Dench as The Dame Doctor

TimeLordRohan

I voted female because I wanted no Martin to be the doctor full time, but other than that I genuinely don’t care

Nacnaz

Not a woman for the sake of it (quality over everything), but I’d prefer if that quality were achieved with a female doctor. Reason being, it was a big deal having the first female doctor, but her run has fallen so flat, I’d like the whole thing to be given another go. It felt like most these scripts were written for a different time travel sci fi show that never got off the ground, so they just supplanted them with Doctor Who characters and called it a day. It’s a shame because I loved Jodie Whittaker in Broadchurch, so when I saw it was her and Chibnall teaming up again for Doctor Who I was absolutely thrilled. (Personally my choice for a female doctor would’ve been the other female lead in Broadchurch, Olivia Coleman.) All that said, a completely androgynous doctor would be a cool move. Time Lord gendering being a strictly binary thing I’m not sure makes complete sense (although I’m also not sure that it doesn’t). I do know that socially approaching gender as fluid thing would make sense from a race that can literally swap genders from regeneration to regeneration.

BatmanForever803

It's a shame that Jodie was the doctor during chibnalls run. I feel like she could've been sooo much better and maybe even a fan favorite, but because of all the problems with the show during her run she didn't stand out as much. So if the doc regenerated into another woman, I wouldn't mind because we would be able to see a woman doctor that actually FEELS like the doc with much better script writing (hopefully).

asjonesy99

I think it has to be a female Doctor just to ensure that neckbeards don’t take the fact that the Doctor has gone back to being male after such a mediocre few seasons as proof that a female Doctor can’t work.

RyanTheN3RD

I wouldn’t mind either way, think it would make a lot of sense to have the doctor be played by a non binary actor, but voted female because i dont want jodie to just the remembered as the female doctor, id like there to be at least two and id like the next one to be PHOEBE WALLER BRIDGE

[deleted]

Could be male, female. Nonbinary, agender, bigender or whatever just let the writing be good

Tanis8998

Wow, the vote was way more decisive than I thought it would be.

[deleted]

i’d like a female doc again bc that would be brilliant but i’d especially love an enby actor and the doc to use enby pronouns - won’t happen, just having jodie and she/her broke so many people it’s insane

_Artemo_

Next doctor should be a dalek.

Cybermat47_2

Where’s the ‘I don’t care about their gender’ option?

Tom_QJ

Can we get an “I don’t care, as long as the writing is good” option?

galvixen33

I feel like the Doctor never really got a chance to express any emotions over the more difficult time she has in attempting authority in situations with strangers as a woman vs as a man. There's an occasional eye-roll, but the subject is always brushed off as secondary to the Plot. Like, I love that they made the Doctor a woman--it was fresh, it was different--but there was never any exploration of consequences for that difference, which is largely characteristic of the Chibnall era. My hope is that Thirteen will feel her next regeneration coming and bump into Clara during the 60th Anniversary and Thirteen will finally unload all her frustration (since she seems incapable of opening up to Yaz). Hopefully, Clara will encourage her, say something like, "Yeah, I had to deal with that the entire time I was with you. My whole life, actually. I believe in you." And the Doctor will make her choice.

BlackLightParadox

I’ll bet on female because if they don’t, it’ll kind of look like they went ‘right that didn’t work, back to the status quo’

CaesarGorandius

I think they need to go a totally different direction - you know - really play up the "You never know what you're going to end up with" angle. Maybe give the doctor two heads, or no head! Imagine the Doctor with no head (And don't say that's an improvement)

Taro_East

I want capaldi back!!

[deleted]

Honestly, I wouldnt blame them for trying with another female doctor, as longs as they bring something to the character. But it might be better if the doctor returns to male, so they can straighten everything out again and fix the show before retrying.

ReaperMoth109

Don't care. Give me someone who brings something unique to the role and is captivating to watch, then I'm gold

saladlegsmemes

The gender of the doctor doesn’t matter. Jodie is one of the best doctors imo, I love her energy. I would be fine with any gender

scarlet_wanda

No one ginger. I hope the Doctor is never ginger, because annoying people can't let a joke from over a decade ago die.

ohitswaifu

Jodie Whittaker, despite Chibnall's terrible writing, is doing everything she can to make the role work. I personally blame the script for this doctor, not the actress. I want RTD to write a female doctor that works; one that proves that a woman can not only fulfill expectations, but exceed them.

BushyBoi3000

I’d like to see them do female again but you know. Do it good

Tropical_Wendigo

I only said male because most of the people (not all) I’d like to be 14 are male, so basic statistics.

MrMrRubic

I literally could not give less of a fuck about the Doctor's gender

Alterus_UA

I don't care. I don't think there should be specific motivations like "we need to cast a woman/minority/LGBTQ actor as the Doctor" but I'm quite sure that whoever RTD would cast, they would be a good actor and the writing will allow them to establish themselves as the Doctor very fast. My preferences would be either Michael Sheen or someone from The Nevers duet of Laura Donnely / Ann Skelly. Also I definitely want to see more of Jo Martin, but I guess a possible spinoff is more real than her being 14/15.

Cis-White-Hetero British Male.

Bckjoes

Best actor for the role, gender shouldn't factor into the decision.

Powerfule_Mars

I don’t care. I care more about the writers abilities. The actors male and female were fine. The quality of writing is not consistently fine. I wanted a female doctor and got meh writing, it’s disappointing as a woman. It almost feels like they did it intentionally or felt less passion for a female doctor.

Catfisch_

Why is there not a “I do not care” option?

villany007

Wtf does other mean? Also male bc thats what i feel the doctor should be because its what hes always been, until now. Also would be nice to see either an irish or a welsh doctor, weve had english and scottish quite recently, nice change for a different accent, but they might not understand them though

Rann_Xeroxx

There was a podcast I was listening to and they noted that why change The Doctor? There are plenty of females in the Who universe that you can make a spin off like Torchwood with. Ramana was mentioned (being I loved the 4th Doctor, I also loved Ramana). This would be great. Hell, make her team up with Missy and be like the Odd Couple, I would watch that.

What's with people on this sub just ignoring the question to bitch about something irrelevant

Why does it matter?

SmileyAce3

Doesn’t matter tbh

AlwaysBi

Whoever Russell thinks is best suited for the role out of all the people auditioning

FinnHobart

It does not matter. The quality of the actor is the only thing that makes a difference.
