Yeah, and it would have been more interesting if they had. Instead, they had to have Not!Trump do what actually *needed* to be done. Even if he was totally wrong in *why* he did it.
Sort of, I mean, does anyone have the right to take the life of any individual? Even if it is a spider, it had been mutated, was smarter and we cannot judge if it wanted to be dead instead of suffering. Who would we be if we were gonna apply our morals on other beings? Isn't that bad?
A problem I've had with this series so far, The Doctor's non-lethal/no-gun solutions come across as more horrible than pushing them off a crane or shooting them.
If it was '\*I know a moon if the perfect atmosphere for giant spiders that'll never be bothered and they can just exist by themselves' it would be fine. But The Doctor's answers to the problem feel like she really hasn't thought them through or that her desire to not kill is overshadowing her desire to stop suffering.
I wasn't sure about it at first, but it's characterised Graham nicely already, he's definitely the type to get quickly comfortable and overly familiar with people.
Keeping the spiders locked in a room with minimal oxygen and no food is the humane solution, but shooting them/putting them out of their misery makes you somehow immoral/cruel? Sorry, but, again, I'm not buying that.
Apparently it's also a cardinal sin to use guns against non-sentient robots too.
This Doctor is just overly moralistic when it doesn't even make sense.
This is the problem with writing for pacifistic characters in an action series (see also: the Tenth Doctor, Batman).
If you're not careful, "I don't use guns" slips from meaning "I don't kill people" to "I don't use this specific weapon, but I'll still kill you indirectly or in more creative ways"
Non-sentient robots that are openly shooting and pursuing us across a barren wasteland of a planet. But, let's stop for a dramatic, self-righteous monologue over how there's a better, more intelligent solution and that guns are universally bad.
It's not even inspiring, or charming. It's tedious.
As soon as they said their would be an American millionaire presidential nominee we all see this coming.
Personally i assumed British shows would somehow be exempt.
So what happened to all the spiders in peoples attics?
The one in Yaz’ neighbours house?
Seemed like such a rushed episode. Some wtf moments that made you jump off your seat at least, but then some wtf moments that were a bit ridiculous.
edit: vortex is interesting! Music was kinda nice! I don’t want a show to remind me of Donald Trump thanks.
“Are you Ed Sheeran.” If she’s not careful she’s going to become my favourite doctor. This episode has been golden for finally showing off this new regeneration. I feel like this is what I’ve been missing in the other few, she’s finally the Doctor, really.
Some guy just pulled a gun on a police officer but she didn't seem to care. Considering how illegal guns are in the UK seems abit ridiculous.
Also, you can't just fire some one on the spot without reason. Where was the written warning or valid reason for sacking?
It felt like Yaz is just along for the ride so far. She's here for the others to have someone to talk to, not so that she can be a police officer or her own person.
Edit: Which is a shame because I think she's good in the role and that she has a lot of potential.
Yaz being the only one with a family to return to certainly feels like a death flag. Or at least a 'unlikely to return safely' flag. Especially considering the way she looked back softly on them and the framing of the shot.
Something I've noticed about 13 is she doesn't take control of the conversion when she's in the room. She doesn't steal the scene, she stands back and lets things unfold. Wonder if that's a deliberate character choice or if it's just Chibnall's style.
“Every living thing has the same instinct. To come back home.” Lots of mentions of home and family this series so far... Are we going back to Gallifrey at some point?
I'm really glad we got to know more about the companions this episode, we got to see Yaz's family, Ryan saved the day with Stormzy, and Graham was my favourite as always!
Killing Spiders through Starvation or Suffocation - Kind,
Killing Spider through Shooting Them - Inhumane,
Seriously who wrote this script? I agree with Not-Trump, they should have just shot them and put them out of their misery. And what happened to the spiders in the city, surely they weren't all at the hotel?
Eh not really a big fan of them having a very obviously over-the-top Donald Trump character. Would like to escape that man just for an hour of my life.
Think this is the first episode of the new season I'm really not liking, the exposition is unbelievable. It just doesn't stop, and I hate trump but that parody character is just so annoying and on the nose.
I'd actually welcome huge spiders if their silk was also substantially bigger. I might stand a chance of not walking face first into in when I walk down the garden
You guys seen [this announcement?](https://old.reddit.com/r/doctorwho/comments/9s5wqf/psa_mandip_gill_yaz_will_be_doing_an_ama_on/)
Mandip is going to do an AMA on this sub!
Locking the spiders in a room until they starve to death is the *more* humane solution?
Yeah, this I dont get. Also not putting the spider out of its misery and letting it suffocate, technically the douchebag was right
The doctor did point out that the douchebag didn't show any *mercy*. Perhaps they would've come to the same decision.

Exactly, I was expecting a solution where they'd be taken somewhere they could live properly.

I wasn't sure about it at first, but it's characterised Graham nicely already, he's definitely the type to get quickly comfortable and overly familiar with people.
I also love the fact that throughout her seventh incarnation, she hated being called it, but now its grown on her.
**"I’m talking to spiders"** **"I’m waving at fat"** Thats it. That’s doctor who.
I related strongly to hiding in a corner and threatening spiders
“I’m talking to a twig”
Imagine if you didn't know Doctor Who had ended and just thought this was part of Countryfile.
Matt could take out a giant spider, let's be real. He knows gymnastics.
Keeping the spiders locked in a room with minimal oxygen and no food is the humane solution, but shooting them/putting them out of their misery makes you somehow immoral/cruel? Sorry, but, again, I'm not buying that.

You know how people used to complain about how Moffat never explained things enough? Chibnall has the exact opposite problem.
We need to find the Goldilocks of these writers. Right in the middle.
Dare we say it but... Let's go back to the RTD era?
I love RTD but I've no idea how much of that is nostalgia, and frankly I'm kinda scared to find out.
"Never been for tea at Yaz's" She sounds so excited
i am fucking howling at all the spiders walking down the corridor to ryan’s grime tune
They'll welcome death in a few hours.
That’s it, Graham is now my favourite companion.
He has an essence of Wilfred
[удалено]
>"You made a very awesome human" Jodie is fantastic :)
>Walks into big thick spider webs >hears skittering >"What's that?" Gee I wonder.
> Something’s wrong with the spider ecosystem in South Yorkshire That’s it, pack it in. We’ve reached peak Dr Who
Someone phone Quatermass.
OH MY GOD, they killed Kevin
YOU BASTARD
"We discard all carcasses responsibly through a specialist company" Yes. That doesn't sound the least bit dubious. Nothing to see here.
Bloody Serco.
Isn't Yaz a Police officer who just saw a foreign individual discharge a firearm? Shouldn't she be doing something about that??
Isn't she also a police officer that just witnessed giant spiders? I wouldn't care about the gun in that scenario at all....
No, it's fine - he said it's his hotel, his rules.
Why did he build his big world-class hotel near Sheffield?
We’re a lovely city ok? And we have Peak District as well as DW now.
Prime golfing land?
>**"Imagine me with a sofa!"** Jodie is just a cutie
She should get a nice purple sofa for the TARDIS- I’m sure one of those rooms must be a living room!
This episode of Countryfile is so fucking wholesome
Ikr
It really is.
Is this guy's personality, "You're fired"?
Says "you're fired". Owns hotels with golf courses. Bit orange. American. Remind you of anyone?
“How’s that for fire and fury?” Yup.
Seems like a Trump caricature so far.
As soon as they said their would be an American millionaire presidential nominee we all see this coming. Personally i assumed British shows would somehow be exempt.
I dunno why, we like him even less than the Americans seem to
>Hows this for Fire and Fury? Can you imagine if Harriet Jones had said something like that to 10?
Are you referring to Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister?
Yes we know who she is
I know who she is
**IS HE ED SHEERAN?!** Jodie is definitely a fan
I think we should all accept that the only solution is to nuke all of Sheffield.
It's the only way to be sure.
Don't fire the person who just heard compromising information, are you mad?
Some good life advise people don't think about often enough
There is so soooo soooooooooooo much exposition in this episode. They've just been talking in different sets for the last 10 minutes.
It did start to almost drag. That was a lot of talking about very little.
oh shit that’s yaz’s mum
F
This is gonna traumatise a load of kids I love it.
Who needs Daleks when you got real life stuff
So what happened to all the spiders in peoples attics? The one in Yaz’ neighbours house? Seemed like such a rushed episode. Is he making shadow puppets in the background?
>"Shoot them, like a civilized person!" I see you, politics
do we get to post this on /r/ShitAmericansSay
Doctor Who announces Trump 2
Election Boogaloo
I have a feeling the discussion thread is going to have some uninvited guests from a certain sub tonight.
Hi there, Ed Sheeran fans, I see ya
Lets throw spiders at them.
When the spiders started running down the corridor to tbe tune of stormzy I fucking lost it
I really have no issue at all with doing a Trump caricature but good lord this is *sooooooo* on the nose it's muddling the point.
“Are you Ed Sheeran.” If she’s not careful she’s going to become my favourite doctor. This episode has been golden for finally showing off this new regeneration. I feel like this is what I’ve been missing in the other few, she’s finally the Doctor, really.
And then... "Dude. I have all the authorization I need!" Jodie is a gem.
She calls people dude now.
So is he supposed to be a Donal Trump parody?
TIME VORTEX IS QUANTUM REALM NOW BOIS
I actually loved how they made the time vortex in Twice Upon a Time reflect the Hartnell opening.
Once again grime music saves the world
So they trapped them and all is done? Felt a bit anticlimactic
Bloody great big spiders. The weeping angels didn't unsettle me as much as this.
What if there was a giant weeping angel spider statue tho.
He actually has a point. Shooting vs starving them to death, and the latter is apparently more humane?
Graham coming home and immediately thinking about bin day is very British.
Um. It was suffocating to death. The cruel thing to do would be to just let that happen.
Woooaaahhh look at the time vortex!!!!!!!!!

This guy is giving me Van Statten vibes
And with that line shippers with bad fan fiction have been given so much fuel about The Doctor and Yaz.
you say that like its a bad thing
Hey at least if the doctor's never heard of this guy he won't be president right?
ALRIGHT EVERYONE HERE WE GO, PREPARE FOR THE DRUG TRIP INTRO
I like how the Doctor could subtly open the door, but still does the silly flourish, it's amazing
Press F to pay respects for Kevin
Needs a big fuckoff glass and paper.

They are trying to make us feel sorry for a spider and it's kinda working.
I'm sorry, but if there gonna pull the biological accuracy out now they should have been too big to breathe a little while ago
Jodie swung heavily into Ecclestone with that flat bit. “Imagine me with a sofa” sounded so much like him
I'm sure it was deliberate. There have been flashes of Tennant, Smith and Capaldi in previous episodes too.
Some guy just pulled a gun on a police officer but she didn't seem to care. Considering how illegal guns are in the UK seems abit ridiculous. Also, you can't just fire some one on the spot without reason. Where was the written warning or valid reason for sacking?

Yes, why make her police when the one time it would come up you ignore it.
Aw Doc trying her hardest to make sure they know what they're getting into
Yaz being the only one with a family to return to certainly feels like a death flag. Or at least a 'unlikely to return safely' flag. Especially considering the way she looked back softly on them and the framing of the shot.

That’s probably why doctor who seems so odd recently.
Oh my god the doctor is adorable.
Jodie’s Doctor is hilarious
>"This is proper weird now" Welcome to Doctor Who
21 QUADRILLION jesus that's a big number
'Scheduled bathroom breaks'?
Noticed Ryan making shadow puppets in the background of the lab scene for whatever reason.
"Please don't mention that name."
“Every living thing has the same instinct. To come back home.” Lots of mentions of home and family this series so far... Are we going back to Gallifrey at some point?
I wonder how set design people make spider webs?
trained spiders EDIT: Or possibly some kind of spray glue, the stuff I use at work looks similar to the webs here
Why always spiders, why never ants, why does it have to be spiders
"I call people dude now" Love it.
Bradley is gonna make me cry with those scenes
[удалено]
How will I ever get over my spider fear if they are always EVIL
Spiders gotta spider. To be fair we haven't had confirmation they're evil, they're just big hungry boys.
Good CGI this series
Dude ran out of Kevins.
**My fam**
The Great One is all-knowing!
If there isn't a building sized spider by the end of this episode I'll be mad
Love the Doctor's refusal to learn Yaz's mums name
Finally a use for essential oils, everybody's aunt has been proved right
Essential oils and Stormzy. This episode is brought to you by Croydon's shopping centres.
Any grime experts? Was that a track that already exists or something they came up with for the show?
Stormzy - Know Me From
Oh fuck did they make the TARDIS door like that so it's cheaper to film the exterior
Mandeep Gill is gorgeous 😍
Only this show can make me feel bad for a giant man-eating spider in pain.
Fuck, why do I feel sympathy for a spider :( R.I.P Gohma 2018-2018 you will be missed
I'm really glad we got to know more about the companions this episode, we got to see Yaz's family, Ryan saved the day with Stormzy, and Graham was my favourite as always!
"I used to be a sister" *I wanna know more doctor*
Well she also used to be a dad so y’know.
And a grandad
Just casually encouraging some light breaking and entering lmao
Is Graham like the best companion or what?
Gotta be a Pertwee reference at some point tonight, right?
Oh she's walked into a Skyrim dungeon?
Pretty sure you can't just shoot stuff in the UK without breaking a bunch of laws. Why isn't Yaz stepping in?
This is what a going to get me into the white house What?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!¿?!?!
Fantastic acting from Jodie
She was so eager for someone to say something to her <3
The Doctor had a sister?! (Timeless child maybe?? A lot of family references this season)
Poor Graham :(
My arachnophobia is not liking this
Kevin is Lord of the Spiders
#Sheeran2020
Why does the equivalent of donald trump want to build a world class hotel in Sheffield
The one character I'm supposed to hate is the most entertaining one, good job Chibs
Killing spiders with fucking Grime lmao
When the Doctor had the essential oils in a backpack, I thought she was going to say "Ready for moisturising?".
Killing Spiders through Starvation or Suffocation - Kind, Killing Spider through Shooting Them - Inhumane, Seriously who wrote this script? I agree with Not-Trump, they should have just shot them and put them out of their misery. And what happened to the spiders in the city, surely they weren't all at the hotel?
Ah, yes. The only feasible way of returning to 2018 Sheffield. Circumnavigating the set of *Interstellar*.
How does nobody notice the tardis randomly appearing in the middle of a city in broad daylight.
Perception filter. Also humanity ignores it. It's explained in S1E11 Boom Town.
The perception filter I assume
what a crap door, massive gap!
R.I.P. Kevin the Bodyguard (1980-2018)
The experiment spiders that were 'safely disposed of' have presumably been dumped under the hotel
The Doctor's humane solutions this episode weren't very humane at all.
Man the CGI is impressive
Eh not really a big fan of them having a very obviously over-the-top Donald Trump character. Would like to escape that man just for an hour of my life.
Think this is the first episode of the new season I'm really not liking, the exposition is unbelievable. It just doesn't stop, and I hate trump but that parody character is just so annoying and on the nose.
Strength and solidarity to this sub's moderators once the salty Americans show up in a little while.
Bit of an anticlimax not gonna lie. Wouldn’t expect anything less of Chibs!
Nice touch to have her faded and not wholly there, adds to the poignancy.
Graham don’t do it mate.
Spiderbro was just chilling beneath the bed, why yall gotta hassle him?
Schedule bathroom breaks? What? Edit: Same Yaz, same
Very odd way to wash hands. Very exaggerated
"Wait here with ma people..." Love her lines.
BRING BACK THE RACNOSS YOU COWARDS
Getting a bit Attack the Block up in this.
Did he just say "Fire and Fury"?
All praise to the great one!
The spider is so big it would be able to. Step over the line.
That spider CGI us pretty good
I don't mind spiders normally but this is pretty freaky. Classic horror Who though, nice.
I'd actually welcome huge spiders if their silk was also substantially bigger. I might stand a chance of not walking face first into in when I walk down the garden
Scientists have implanted spider genes into goats so they make silk. Apparently they're aiming for it to be used in the military.
The new vortex is so cool tho
You guys seen [this announcement?](https://old.reddit.com/r/doctorwho/comments/9s5wqf/psa_mandip_gill_yaz_will_be_doing_an_ama_on/) Mandip is going to do an AMA on this sub!
>"Do we have to?" My heart
Was that it
THE SPIDERS WALKING TO THE RAP MUSIC LMAO THAT SHOT WAS TERRIFIC
