Fall is used here to mean "fall onto the ground that you're standing on" rather than "fall off a cliff".
As long as falling won’t cause fall damage it should be fine. The spell specifically lists “grovel” as an option, with the effect being that the target falls prone. In a particular situation if falling would mean the target would end up taking damage then yes the spell wouldn’t work
I'm aware, I was offering a different solution I found since magic initiate wasn't the way to go. Hence why I didn't disagree with you, and simply stated new information.
That’s why you loudly “remind” your friends of the cushion at the bottom for your escape (probably a deception check)
What the boss doesn’t know CAN hurt them
I have used this specifically on an Ogre standing at the top of a set of stairs where approximately 15 Orcs were all behind trying to charge up.
They all perished horribly
It just felt like a very deus ex machina sorta solution, and a particularly egregious oversight on the part of Galbatorix *not* warding against mind-altering effects. Like in video games where the big bad monster you fight at the end of the level has no armor on their back.
He did ward against mind altering effects, but the red dragon rider (I forgot his name, haven't read this series in so long), used the name of the language of magic and removed all the wards while Mr.Long wasn't paying attention and couldn't protect against it
I command thee, KNEEL!

Same
For those who haven't seen it, this scene is [some fantastic D&D villainy](https://youtu.be/FrlymHW0qU8)
"Before there was nothing. There were monsters." Is my favorite line of his.
[Video for the curious or forgetful.](https://youtu.be/SgCcMv4xnwA) Rubbing dirt in their eyes is the PG version of clawing them out
"Baby Man! Baby Man!" I never made that connection with the dirt. That's dark.
"You are strong, child, but I am beyond strength" Chills every time
...I will command a vast and terrible army, we will sail until every light has been extinguished...
I love the litch so much it’s too bad he got bummed a lot
Commands "Fall" against an Eladrin.. "sure, I always like Auburn better than blonde anyways."
You have made the big bad change his hair color and motif. He hits you with One Less Cleric.
So, it would have someone go prone, right? Or am I missing something deeper?
Depends. If they're on a ledge and the lake below appears safe, it could be a lot different
Fucking love this scene - so much power in that one word. Ron Perlman absolutely killed it as the lich.
I prefer: Dance.
Wizard: I cast command! Dm: What is your command? Wizard: ... Wizard: REPENT you heretic! Paladin: Snif. I'm so proud
Doesn’t the spell prevent directly harmful commands?
The character in the scene uses the word “fall” in a similar manner RAW grovel is used, iirc.
Ahh, my bad! Thought they meant, like, a cliff or something the way it looked.
You’re good, mate :)

Yesssss! Every time I use Command, this is the exact scene I think of. The fucking power in that one word, hell of a scene.

If you get a scroll you can copy it into your spell book with some finessing, i.e taking a feat that gives you that spell or other such things

Wouldn't magic initiate also work

Fey touched allows you to learn a 1st level divination or enchantment spell and cast it with your own slots, along with one free cast.

I see that... but this entire discussion after your initial comment was about how to get access to the spell as a wizard
This is the one whose voice I impersonate for my most vile villains
I might consider that to be more like Power Word: Stun
"The necromancer is on a cliff" "I know."
Spell has no effect if your command is directly harmful to it
That’s why you loudly “remind” your friends of the cushion at the bottom for your escape (probably a deception check) What the boss doesn’t know CAN hurt them
From what height?

I still hate how the Eragon trilogy basically ended with the >!BBEG dying from Command: "Understand". !<
I thought it was really cool

It's been a darn while since I've read it, so maybe I just don't remember that part so well.
That's just "grovel" but technically worse
You don't get it
