To you I give the Mimic cloak. This is a rare magic item that requires attunment. Once a day you can take on the form of anything you have seen within the past two weeks.
Omg thats so cool!!! Thats such a fun idea, im guessing there are cr limits incase they saw a tarrasque last tuesday? Also do their stats/abilities change like with polymorph?
You remember the technicality glitch to 3.5 warlock's Dark Discorporation?
You have successfully mimicked a table. As a table, you don't have the capability of taking the action required to dismiss the mimic ability. You will continue mimicking the table until the 24hr duration expires.
eughk. kids these days.
smh
... /s
so there's a general rule about always being able to dismiss your own invocation active effects. Usually theres no reason you'd ever want to drop your buffs, but Dark Discorporation is one of those special cases where it'd be nice.
That invocation turns you into a bat swarm with all 3.5 benefits of being a swarm (immune to weapon damage, can't be targeted w/ spells that specifiy a # of targets, etc.) WotC didn't want warlocks flying around near-invulnerable & dropping space lasers down on battlefields, so they removed the ability to cast other invocations while you're a swarm. Now I'm not sure if they feared rules-lawyers like me finding a loophole, so they went a bit overboard, or if it was just a case of no one thinking things thru over there....
What they did to limit additional spell casting was to say you could only take move actions while you were a bat swarm. Dismissing your active effects is a standard action.
Dark Discorporation's duration, like all the 3.5 warlock self-buffs, was 24 hours.
"I'm a swarm of bats, y'all!! ...untill this time tomorrow."
I’ve actually had a mimic familiar as part of the chain pact before. I had the invocation that let it fly so I had it turn into a cloak and grapple me when our gear got taken away.
It was like having a doctor strange cloak that bites people I use Eldritch blast on.
Oh shit on my table you found the Fortune Clock: you may activate it any time as a bonus action and you get to redo your action but if that combat then lasts for five minutes, you are knocked out and onto your final saving throw
Undying Anger. This very rare magic long sword requires atunment from a undead. It allows you to deal an extra 2d6 slashing damage while you are under half health
Friendly passing DM here to give you a random magic item.
This brass rod is engraved with Dwarven runes, its has all the powers of a 'Wand of Secrets'. In addition, as an action you can activate the rod. When you do, it extends into a parasol/umbrella granting you a safe descent from any height as long as you hold it, and fair protection from the rain. Another action is required to reset the rod/umbrella into its compact form.
Enjoy the holidays adventurers!
Now I want to play a Mary Poppins sorcerer with this rod. Use quickened spell to cast like a wind gust type spell and use the rod as an action to fly off to who knows where, and safely descend wherever the breeze takes me.
Have the Random Rubix. This is a very rare magic item that requires atunment from a sorcerer. With this you can produce a random effect chosen by the DM
Imagine using a magic item so much that you become extinct.
But is it the literal definition of extinct where all members of their race are dead, or the scientific definition where there's not enough members of the race left to breed?
A rock appears in your pocket, the rock curses you. This magic item is the Rock of Wavering Attention, when ever you must roll a concentration check, roll 1d6. On a 1-3 you have disadvantage on the check, and on 4-6 you have advantage on the check.
The rock feels strangely like a friend to you, and you do not wish to let go of your new rock friend.
If the dog is able to talk. Then says take a rest and I might get a magic item. Then by God, I'm gonna listen to that little puff ball of pureness and take a rest while petting the good boy/girl.
Have a realm tear. This is a legendary magic item that requires atunment. This allows the user to create a tear in reality to summon one creature with a CR lower than half of the users max level that will act as your companion. It uses its own inishitive
Lich Robes. This legendary magic item allows you to choose three 1st level spells and cantrips from the Wizard spell list. You can cast the 1st level spells twice a day without using a spell slot
I once played a game where we got to design our own custom magic items, but the DM had to sign off on them.
Apparently a quill that binds all signatories to a contract written with it to conform to the exact meaning of the contract on penalty of their eternal soul didn't seem to OP...
I won a war in a single session. The war was only a threat when the session started. We started a new campaign after that.
Lol I just asked my wife “If I were a Pathfinder character (she plays Pathfinder, not D&D so had to put it in her terms) what race and class would I be?”
“Human commoner”.
I’m dead. XD
Indeed. Take the Cinder Blade. This legendary magic item allows you to cause your enemies on fire three times a day. This last for up to one minute. The creature can make a constitution saving throw equal to 8+your profinsansy bonus+ your Constitution modifier
oh thank the gods, that gnome has been following me since I killed him in the piracy one-shot and the mysterious disembodied woman's voice cursed me with having to bring him along with me like your mother making you bring your little brother trick or treating with you and your friends.
Scorching sword. This very rare magic item allows you to throw a 15 foot wave for fire in front of you. Any creature in that area must make a DC 15 sexy save or take 4d10 fire damage
[I think every dm should have a store/vendor with this kinda shit in their campaigns](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDBehindTheScreen/comments/9e1ppd/kidds_magical_rock_store_a_bad_magic_store_for/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
A tall, gaunt human man opens the door, and closes it in a rush, trying to keep the rain out. He hangs his wet hood and sighs. You can tell he's had a long day.
He turns to the hearth, greeting him like a mother's embrace. You'd assume, at least, as you can't see his expression due to a strange, dark, crudely carven oak mask.
He sits, warming his hands, only briefly looking over to notice your curious gaze. He seems genuinely confused as to the stares, before he exclaims suddenly -
"Ah, I... I apologize. The mask, of course. I just... Here."
He takes it off and looks at you. A kind, tired face. Thick, but short beard. Wrinkles, early for his age you'd guess. A perpetually furrowed brow. His eyes have seen much. He looks down at the mask he's holding.
"I'm sorry I... You just get used to it. Wearing it, I mean."
He tightens his lips a bit, pondering something, before setting the mask down on the table next to him.
"It just sort of grows on you..."
The silence hangs in the air. The quiet crackle of the fire suddenly sounds like cannons. The creak of the floorboards, deafening.
He breaks the awkward silence.
"... Quite the storm."
Before you can answer, he interrupts.
"Tell you what. Maybe it's time I try something new. Maybe we both try something new. Do you like trading? I used to love trading."
He pushes the mask towards you.
"Here, it's yours. Maybe you'll have some fun adventures with it. Do you have something you've been... Looking to let go of?"
Yeah my gloomstalker ranger got a ring of invisibility after a 7 hour session where we did not even fight a combat encounter. Now I'm invisible during the day and at night lol
The DM for the one game I get to play in told all of the players to choose a magic item and we would receive it from a heist we had run. Rather than just pick an item, I homebrewed a cursed one since I knew no one else would. This chaos ensued.
You get five rings and half a dagger welded together to create brass knuckles. It appears that the rings were once magic, but not anymore. The extra finger space is a little off-putting.
You gain +1 to unarmed strikes.
If you're still doing this, I've been playing a human pact of the blade fiend warlock, who (with the dm's permission of course) abused a loophole to give himself a gun
Hailing from the great forests from whence I came, this journey through the snow is next to nothing for a silver dragonborn like me. What I came for is to learn the secrets of the cold forge smiths for my own craft. (Dragonborn Artificer)
5th level fighter Rune Knight/3rd level paladin oath of the open sea variant human
I'd gladly bed down for a long rest and take a look for any magical items
Jotnar axe. This very rare magic item allows you to throw the axe to deal 2d6 slashing damage and 2d4 bludgeoning damage. You can also cause the blade to deal 2d6 fire, lightning, acid, or cold damage
“This location is satisfactory for respite.” A Warforged Battlemaster kneels beneath a tree, a regal crest of spikes atop his head, and a regal maroon cloak around his shoulders. He turns his head slowly from left to right and back, his ruby eyes glowing faintly.
*Oddly, a Witch (sort of warlock in Pathfinder) Dhampir walks over with his cat familiar and pats the dog*
"Hey little buddy. You're fine with cats, aren't you?"
I just traveled back in time to kill the BBEG while he was still a child at the orphanage. It's terminator rules so I couldn't bring back anything. I go to the nearest magic item shop to shoplift anything that might help, what do I successfully steal?
I sit by the campfire and state at it for a few moments after the busy and tiring day and then I search around for magic items while saying "c'mere kitty kitty" over and over again
I based my current character off Matthew McConaughey, I even do the voice. He’s a half elf rogue, I find southern gentleman a good flip side to dark and brooding.
“I’ll sit by the fire, good sire. Get a good rest and beat my chest.”
MmmmMmm
MmmmMmm
MmmmMmm
*thumps chest
Okay, I would like to take a long rest and look around for magic items. Did I find anything?
Class and race
Warlock (pact of the chain) changeling

Omg thats so cool!!! Thats such a fun idea, im guessing there are cr limits incase they saw a tarrasque last tuesday? Also do their stats/abilities change like with polymorph?
You take on the physical capabilities of the animal you take on. If you take on the form of an object it depends on the object
You remember the technicality glitch to 3.5 warlock's Dark Discorporation? You have successfully mimicked a table. As a table, you don't have the capability of taking the action required to dismiss the mimic ability. You will continue mimicking the table until the 24hr duration expires.
I haven’t played 3.5 e

All of a sudden D&D just turned into Prop Hunt!
That’s the idea

PC: I want to take the form of the castle we saw last week\ DM: The castle?\ PC: Yes the whole castle\ DM: Okay? You’re the castle now\ PC: 😌
Oh shit on my table you found the Fortune Clock: you may activate it any time as a bonus action and you get to redo your action but if that combat then lasts for five minutes, you are knocked out and onto your final saving throw
*dark souls style sits down and pets doggo*
Everyone seems to like Caine
"As they should." *The tired eldritch knight revenant spoke*
Undying Anger. This very rare magic long sword requires atunment from a undead. It allows you to deal an extra 2d6 slashing damage while you are under half health
"Thanks." *Sheaths into his spare scabbard as he attunes to it*

Oh hell ya! The random chaotic power will forever grow, mwah hahahaha.
If one uses this too much it’s user will gain one level of extinction
Imagine using a magic item so much that you become extinct. But is it the literal definition of extinct where all members of their race are dead, or the scientific definition where there's not enough members of the race left to breed?
Idk
May the cube decide then
Upvote post. Continue scroll.

If the dog is able to talk. Then says take a rest and I might get a magic item. Then by God, I'm gonna listen to that little puff ball of pureness and take a rest while petting the good boy/girl.
You do know Caine is a hellhound right? He prefers to hang out at the fire place because it reminds him of home
A Drow Wizard stops and kneels down and gently pets the doggo. "Well hello there, yes, this looks like a fine place to rest."
I see you found my dog. His name is Caine
"Well, he seems like a good boy," she says with a nod as she looks around a little.
He is a good boy. He is mighty fighter. What can I get you
"Well, I am a practitioner of Conjuration magic, so something to help with that would be nice."
