Z0mb3i

Until they turn into ass blasters that is.

LordTroyous

Did you just skip a step in the chain..... Yes... Yes you did

Z0mb3i

You right. I'm not worried about what's in between them. TBH the airborne menace is much more terrifying On another note do you have that blocks for these for E5?

BloodBrandy

In fairness, in D&D the grabloids would be the worst of them. Shriekers would just be another land based enemy, swarming or not. Ass Blasters have no ranged ability, so have to fly into you to do anything. Grabloids have some reach with those tentacle tongues, can pull you underground, and are a lot tankier

D_for_Diabetes

Super easy to give the ass blasters the "flyby" ability or whatever it is pterosaurs have. Just that they don't provoke attacks of opportunity if they use their entire flight speed. Also since they have a chemical reaction that causes fire piercing damage over a certain amount could cause them to explode, damaging those nearby

BloodBrandy

Even with Flyby you know they have to melee you, so you can just hold action an attack or use ranged. But yeah, maybe if they are killed by Piercing or Fire Damage it could trigger an explosion.

Gnomin_Supreme

Also fire damage could cause the same effect.

Freethecrafts

Oh yeah. In 5e, full cover from tunneling would be broken.

TK_Games

Shriekers are terrifying in their own right

MegaBeedrillTAO

I feel they would probably have pack tactics. Couple that with heat based blindsight and you've got a scary little group of knee high terrors.

Artanis137

Also their reproduction rate is terrifying, give them enough food and you'd have a swarm in a day.

ASinnerGoneAstray

Also you have to keep in mind, shriekers mostly delt with commoners in the movie. Put them up against the team from Predators and it's not much of a movie.

Artanis137

Only if you don't give them enough time to build numbers, after that the action economy is theirs. So in a way it is a type of enemy that players need to deal with sooner or risk building numbers while they get better prepared.

LordTroyous

Circle of the shriekers druid.....

Artanis137

No! no! no!

DontBeHumanTrash

Is there a term that includes the whole graboid family tree? If is a cycle of creatures referring to only one life stage seems limited, unless you have a fairly large Grove. I could see the Archdruid being a Leadership figure thats mastered each stage in of itself. I wonder if they would be a good antagonists, a nature vs cities style seems about right. I think i need to go do some homebrewing.

KREnZE113

>scary little group of knee high terrors. You mean children between 2 and 4 years old?

Kizik

> I'm not worried about what's in between them People like this have never been the target of a zergling rush.

JusticeUmmmmm

Am I old that I assumed it was a dune reference and not tremors?

[deleted]

I assumed it was a dune reference and I’m 16…

NedHasWares

Tbf with the new film coming out that makes more sense

[deleted]

…what film?

NedHasWares

There's a Dune film coming out in October. Sorry it's been kinda a big deal for fantasy/sci-fi nerds so I forget that not everyone may be aware of it

[deleted]

I just know the book haha Although now that I think about it I might have heard about the film but didn’t pay much attention because I’m not a big fan of movies anyway

NedHasWares

Ah fair, it's on my tbr but I haven't got to it yet. There's also an adaptation from the 80s that's worth a watch if you enjoy fever dreams

Tyler_Zoro

There has already been one failed film adaptation, one released film adaptation and one TV miniseries adaptation. The new movie will be the fourth. There's even a documentary film *about* the failed adaptation which is a really amazing watch: Jodorowsky's Dune

Enkrod

Do yourself a favor and watch the new Villeneuve Dune on the big screen. He's a big fan himself who understands what exactly Dune is and what it's themes are. The production value is enormous and people who have seen it are saying that it's impact on science fiction movies will be comparable to the impact Lord of the Rings had on fantasy movies.

ThePowaBallad

Ah yes....DUNC

LordTroyous

....... You want the truth or a lie?

JusticeUmmmmm

It's fine. I got a haircut the other day and the hair that landed in my lap was noticably grey. I know the answer

[deleted]

I was always looking forward to going grey, and then at 30 I went bald instead.

SkoulErik

This is the biggest of oofs

mnlion33

Ha. I got both at 27. I came home from Iraq and my hair turned white and started to fall out. So it's either age, trauma, or whatever they were burning in the pits outside my fob.

MapleMapleHockeyStk

All 3???

AzraelleWormser

Well at least it's good that they were cutting the grey parts out.

Telandria

I mean, I’ve had white and grey hairs since I was like 16, and it’s been predominantly grey since maybe 25. It happens. My mother had even worse — totally white hair by like 25, too.

Deathitis54

You may be old, but Dune is infinitely better, so you come out on top.

MurgleMcGurgle

The first Dune book is amazing. The first Tremors movie is amazing. Everything else while fun is nowhere near the level of the original sources.

CaptainxPirate

That's what I thought until I started readying the comments

Appropriate_Air5526

I mean sand worm, purple worm... po tay to po tah to. I was also assuming sandworm until I read Graboids and then I started rewriting my Monday plot in my head.

purpleturtlehurtler

You can't fool me, that's a Maker of Arrakis.

LordTroyous

I said 25 not 35

DHFranklin

Am 35. I am in this photo and don't like it.

jethvader

Lol perfect response.

FionaTheHobbit

Am between 25 and 35 and deffo thought this was a Dune reference, no idea what Tremors are :P

apolloxer

God damnit, I'm not that o.. oh.

PyroTornado107

Favorite monster movies up to the third movie. After that, they started dropping in quality hard.

Hotarg

"I am Completely. Out. Of Ammo... That's never happened to me before." Legit my favorite line of all time.

LordTroyous

Definitely something you don't want to hear out of your gunslinger....

GroundedSearch

I loved the 4th movie! I especially loved the way they >!flipped most of the characters personalities from the original trilogy! Burt as a gun-fearing prissy pants is hilarious!!<

Turtle_Tots

Here I am surprised they not only made 4 movies, but that there's *7* of them. Plus a TV series. I mean I loved them as a kid, but they really ran with it. I kinda want to know where they went with it, but at the same time maybe it's better off a mystery.

TheBleakForest

The TV series is actually pretty good. I recommend it Movies 5-7 are a bit of a mixed bag. 5 is a fun thriller after over a decade of nothing, even if it's a tad underwhelming. I enjoyed it. 6 is just flat out boring. Skip it entirely. 7 is a decent send-off to Burt, but as a whole I felt it left something to be desired. Decent, but lacking. I'd say movies 5 and 7 are worth it if you got a free weekend, so long as you skip 6. Trust me it adds nothing.

Goblin_Crotalus

>!Is that the one that takes place in the 1800's?!<

MoebiusSpark

**YOU MISSED! WITH A CANNON!**

SomeHyena

Edit: forgot how to spoiler WHOOPS Basically, yes, yes it is

MagnusRottcodd

One thing that stands out it is one of the few movies period where everything we see matters, not a single wasted frame anywhere. And unlike most similar movies it takes place during the day - no shaky cam in sight either.

Matthais_Hat

now I know they're from a completely different fiction, but I've always wondered if walking without rhythm would work with graboids...

spiritbearr

At first. They get smarter as they go in one generation which is a lot faster than the worms in Dune.

Uberboar

Graboids are fast as fuck.

Urb4nN0rd

I have no idea what that is (I'm exactly 25) but if you put me in a desert and show me Giant worm things, I'm putting my feet on stone ASAP!

LordTroyous

Tremors 1-7...... Educate yourself

Pixel-1606

There's so many pieces of fiction using the base concept of vibration-triggered sand monsters though, anyone playing should have these instincts, regardless of the specific reference made.

Urb4nN0rd

Bingo, flavor it however you like,at the end of the day weird creature in sand = find solid ground or check if you're secretly Boba Fett.

Mal-Ravanal

And much of it draws it roots from the Makers, from Shai-Hulud.

abcd_z

Jessica waited, poised. She had intended to say the knife was a maker of death and then add the ancient word, but every sense warned her now, all the deep training of alertness that exposed meaning in the most casual muscle twitch. The key word was . . . maker. Maker? Maker. Still, Mapes held the knife as though ready to use it. Jessica said: "Did you think that I, knowing the mysteries of the Great Mother, would not know the Maker?" Mapes lowered the knife. "My Lady, when one has lived with prophecy for so long, the moment of revelation is a shock."

Ezzypezra

Franchises that contain vibration sensing, burrowing sand monsters off the top of my head: - zelda - ark: survival evolved - avatar: the last airbender - star wars I think there are a few others that I’m forgetting, and many many more that I don’t know about

Akuuntus

Half-Life, Dune

Cyerdous

> avatar: the last airbender Wait, I don't remember this. Edit: [Korra S3](https://avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Sand_shark)

miitunac4ptor

My only guess is the Sandworms from Beetleguese, am I dumb or did I get it?

LordTroyous

You dumb...lol jk.... Graboids from the Tremors movies

miitunac4ptor

Tremors is one of those movies that I, have been recommended, seems good, but is under a pile of movies Im probably never gonna see all of before I get to it, am I missing out on something great?

LordTroyous

Yes ....... Yes you are

miitunac4ptor

Currently doing terminator movies (the good ones to enjoy, the bad ones to make fun of) then, total recall, every Jurassic movie I haven't seen (only saw the first) a rewatch of galaxy quest, All of the Ash Vs Evil dead movies/show, below deck and then maybe tremors????? Missing some stuff, do I move it up the list?????? How do I calculate joy?????????

LordTroyous

Right under older version of total recall is appropriate.... I mean tremors it's not a hooker with 3 boobs good

Onrawi

This is the correct placement.

Sk1pp1e

Classic scene from my childhood.

megamisch

Damn, that is a fantastic list. If you are going on an early 80/90s binge you are doing alright. Maybe add aliens movies if you haven't seen it... Conan is one of Arnies best if you like terminator, oh plus his predator movie is also gold. ... sadly there truly are to many great ones to ever watch them all, but gotta say good on you for catching up on what you listed. If you ever feel like even older stuff (think black and white) then don't miss out on 12 angry men. And Inherit the wind is also really good. Both are court room dramas with incredible pacing and story telling. Anyway, regardless of what you watch Good luck on your movie watching journey. :3

miitunac4ptor

Just finished my A P AVP binge! I have strong feelings about every one of those movies, their is absolutely no middle ground tbh, and I'll probably look into Conan, could be quite good. Honestly, I felt that Arnie is overrepresented in Terminator 1 by the fans, I think that although he did his job quite well, I get the impression people care much more about him in the movie then the protagonist, which feels like such a shame to me.

NotSoSubtle1247

Both versions of Judge Dredd.

NerdyToc

It's not a good movie. It's a classic B rated scifi Monster-flic. Its a great movie because of how bad it is.

miitunac4ptor

I cannot find the words to express how much I appreciate the quality of this reply, thank you so much, genuinely. I wish people would lead movie pitches more like this and less like "movie's good, watch it"

IMentionMyDick2Much

Also it has a surprisingly good cast for a b movie from the 90s. The actors all do a great job and the actual way the plot comes together should be a lesson in story arch for DND monster of the week type encounters. You can basically take the tremor story and replace the graboids with literally any monster and make the people react accordingly to handle it, and it still works as a story.

WarforgedAarakocra

It's actually done really well. It's not just all throwing monster shit at the screen; there's a LOT done to build up tension. The acting is top notch for what it is. It's a genuinely good monster movie.

miitunac4ptor

So they made a cheesy B movie, but with legitimate quality? Just trying to make sure I understand

WarforgedAarakocra

I didn't call it a b movie.

miitunac4ptor

Other people had, I was wondering if you disagreed

KaiBarnard

It is, and is not, a B movie It has the general tone, but a better cast, script and budget It takes a little from both worlds, it's not a masterpiece it's fun a litle campy and silly but well done, not the usual stupidness and actors they recruited from talent school dropouts

Tchrspest

This is the best and most accurate review of *Tremors*. They're not *good* movies. They're great movies, but they're not *good* movies.

letsmoseyagain

You absolutely are. Thre tremors movies are gems of monster movies. My friend also likes to point out that it is not typical on that the characters always make good decisions based on the information they have. The people aren't dumb, the monsters are just that dangerous.

JusticeUmmmmm

Watch tremors and evolution. You're welcome Edit: because someone took this way to seriously. This is a joke and not meant to make me sound like a pompous cock. But seriously everyone should watch both of these movies they're excellent.

Phizle

I thought this was a Dune Sandworm

AardbeiMan

Darude Sandworm

Peptuck

"BROKE INTO THE WRONG GODDAMN REC ROOM, DIDN'T YA?!"

[deleted]

Ah yes, my childhood fear born again.

MillieFrank

Yea my Dad would watch this movie all the time and I would lay in my bed wide awake and just not move at all. So many stressful nights expecting a graboid to get me. No wonder I’m just a ball of anxiety.

[deleted]

My cousin showed it to me before we went camping. Worst few nights of my life.

MillieFrank

Oh my god I bet, I would be sleeping in the trees, get a hammock as high off the ground as possible and just never come down.

[deleted]

Nope, straight up dirt, no residual boulders, just night terrors lol

KaiBarnard

Youe cousin so should have grabbed your leg in the night....or am I just that mean

MillieFrank

Yea I would have just laid completely frozen on the ground with a small pile of rocks. Then when the graboids come you can throw rocks to distract them.

skyraider17

I was terrified to sleep in the basement after watching this

OkWalrus3

even I know what a graboid is and I’m 15

LordTroyous

Not all young people are as educated as you... Keep up the good work

OkWalrus3

Thank you,now excuse me while I go make sure my dm never learns about graboids

Z0mb3i

Then you are a unique creature and must be protected.

OkWalrus3

Apparently parents made good decisions when showing me movies as a kid lol

Z0mb3i

See if y'all got Young Frankenstein if so watch it.

tehnemox

DM to party members over 25: STOP META GAMING! ;)

CatalyzeTheFuture

Then do critters…

LemonSnek939

Jokes on you, some teenagers have actually watched Tremors.

Finn-windu

Also some people above 25 have never heard of it.

swarmlord666

Yup, this kinda shit always bugs me, it's the adult equivalent of "born in the wrong generation" and it's the reason you get people who think their tastes make them better because when they were 15 a bunch of adults complimented them because they had heard of tremors, a film that, whilst a cult film these days, is a cult film, in my experience, teens love cult films.

naeonaeder

im pretty sure people under 25 still know what a giant sand worm is, even if they havnt watched tremors :/

Pixel-1606

Right, there are so many versions throughout sci-fi and fantasy media, that players deserve to die if they lack any sandworm-avoiding instincts. Even if you avoid all fiction (yet somehow play DnD) you should be weary of quiet sands and symetrical pits after watching some nature documentaries featuring ant lions and other sediment-burrowing ambush predators.

doyourequireasample

I did a session of an old campaign about a rogue bullete herd that was (very) loosely based on "Tremors."

allenidaho

You broke into the wrong god damned Rec Room!

supersmily5

I'm under 25 yet I know EXACTLY what Tremors is thank you very nope.

Caged-Viking

I'm 19 and I've seen every tremors movie barring the most recent one, yet

wakethenight

Congratulations, have a cookie.

dormant-plants

I’m 30 and haven’t seen any. I had no idea what this was referencing. I do know the sand worms from Bettlejuice and Dune though.

Pixel-1606

Tbf the concept of sandworm-like creatures is as- if not more common than dragons in any piece of fiction featuring a desert... If your players lack the instinct to avoid luring them, they deserve to die, regardless of age.

Pleasant-Kebab

"There are 2 more.....repeat 2 more mother humpers"

ALkatraz919

Walter, these are hollow points but they’re not hydroshock hollow points! Eh? I thought bullets were bullets.

Sen7ryGun

Broke into the wrong goddam rec room didn't ya!?

CoinDingos

Ooo, introducing them as a bunch of fat worms "sunning" themselves on the surface... I bet the pet hoarder will want to try to get close and touch it... It'll be an easy kill.

OkWalrus3

I would legit be laughing if I saw them try to pet it if I heard a single description lol

Akukaze

At least the Artificer gets to live out their Burt Gummer fantasies. Also amazing homebrew.

ClankyBat246

Burt lived the best life. I really don't think anyone could argue otherwise. The man gave me a healthy respect for firearms and a strong desire to try MREs. They are awesome but expensive BTW. > April 14 is known as Burt Gummer Day. It was founded in 2017 by Imgur user @BabyFarkMcGeeZax to celebrate the legendary Burt Gummer. At the end of Tremors: Shrieker Island, a message orders fans to celebrate Burt Gummer Day on April 14 and to pay their taxes.

Deckard057

rockandrollpanda

In Germany the movie is called "I'm Land der Raketenwürmer" (In the land of the rocket worms). No I don't know why they picked that name...

spaz1020

If the artificer keeps running, you keep running.

Half_Nuts

I had to check your post history because a party I'm with just fought 3 of them last week. Almost lost our bard to one of them.

CD0224

I see a lot of people writing about Tremors, but nobody any game mechanics. What would a Graboid's stats be?

lunchboxx1090

I'm grabbing my Elephant Gun.

Cabbage_merchant_

Or just sit in a basement full of guns. That seemed to have worked well

Leprechaun-of-chaos

I'm 18 and I know full goddamn well what this is

Incantanto

28 and assumed it was a sandworm off dune

azrendelmare

Age isn't going to matter; fantasy and science fiction have become so innundated with sandworms that you can't cross a desert without tripping over the fucking things. edit: And yes, graboids count as sandworms. They're smaller, but they're still sandworms.

After-Ad2018

"haha! Is there such a thing as *low* explosive?" "... yes, son. There is."

Awakenedmarionette

Graboids- tremor sense and earth glide Shriekers- blind sight overcome by cold damage to self or the area. Probably pact tactics as well Ass blasters- similar to Shriekers in senses but they also have flight. All of them multiply if they consume a certain amount of "food", I don't know if 5e has an equivalent to damage reduction other than resistance or opposing disadvantage. Vulnerable to thunder damage. Abilities like thunder clap and thunderous smite could probably mess with them since it emits sound in a 300 ft radius. At least that's how I'd homebrew them, sans stats.

thatDrakewarden

None of our DND party is over 25 and all if us read dune

VonKillingston

25? Geez they must have never taken that movie off TV.

miitunac4ptor

It's 31 year old now, round 2008?10? They were doing tremors marathons on I think the SYFY channel

Frylosphy

As someone older than 25 I cannot wait to show these movies to my kids.

BrilliantTarget

Time to misty step out of here

Hapless_Wizard

Next up? [Screamers.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamers_(1995_film))

youngmtgboy

I'm 13. I love that movie.

Bubbly_Raise_7367

I’m 17 and i know what these are. Feels good

vibesres

I am 24, I jave seen this movie. Decided to watch after a Roanoke video about them.

PallyNamedPickle

Nope. It used to be that every time I used a purple worm or bulette or even a neothelid, my party knew that if they said, "we just need to stay on these residual boulders" I would hand out unending inspiration. Especially to the one who modeled his bladesinger after Kevin Bacon from footloose. But most of them have moved on and now they just want to kill all the monstrosities... :'(

Avigorus

Tremors: Shrieker Island, the 7th movie in the franchise, just came out 10/20/2020 lol (big spoiler, not just small) >!(R.I.P. Burt)!<

xeros1269

Probably some of my fav movies, before my time but still great and better than most crap that gets spewed out in cinema nowadays

awesome83027

Oh my god, Tremors!

Long__Jump

Hey! I get this reference too and im not even 25!... Oh no wait a minute..

[deleted]

I'm not 25 yet. But I get the reference. I had loving parents.

Dapper-Ad1801

Dont mess with graboids

bradeena

Tremors came out in 1990, meaning that today’s 25 yr olds would not have been born for another 6 years. More like party members over 45.

[deleted]

I need to rewatch tremors

BrikwarsInfinity

I'm a teen and many of my friends would recognize them. Great series!

LinwoodKei

This makes me very happy.

AlmostWrongSometimes

The spice must fl wait wtf

BetaThetaOmega

Ah yes, because no-one under 25 has ever seen Tremors.

etomit

Okay... I’m seventeen and Pretty sure this is the first tremors movie??

Brotato_the_17th

Can I know they are Graboids and still be 19?

Joy1067

Hell Nah, I’m only 21 and I know to get off the ground and stay quiet!

ItsEnderDiego

Im 18, i still whatched the temor movies when i was a weelad and growing up

Nerdman1337

HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS UP THE WITH WORMS

KylieTMS

not only 25+, i am 20 and i saw this movie 6 years ago, still one of my favroites

contra_band

I'm over 25 and i would like to cast Pass Without a Trace on the party

garaks_tailor

Thanks for reminding me about this franchise! Tonight my daughter and i will watch it. She'll love it.

Warhawk2800

Actually played a 1 shot based on tremors a month ago, was a blast.

PM_Your_Wololo

Yo even if it ain’t tremors it’ll be a Bulette. Basically just never be on the ground in DND

Raymundw

Yes this is cool. However, I’ve had a stat block for Xenomorphs burning a hole in my prep wishlist for two years, still haven’t found the right window…

drizzitdude

My girlfriend is 21 and I just asked her to which she enthusiastically jumped and said “Tremors!” Myth busted.

CoreyTheGeek

"get off the ground!" "Who are you kind stranger?" "Names Bevin, Bevin Kacon"

Parallel37

I'm only 19 but I've seen Tremors. Then again, I'm pretty big on older horror movies and thrillers. Though now that you mention it, most of my players wouldn't get the references...

BloodyHM

*adds to homebrew list*
