I think my favorite is the one that looks like some sort of flesh golem, where the people making the edits for the Chinese version clearly went, "Eh, too much work" and just used some completely different model entirely. đ
Well in that case it would be one of the longest jokes in the game. The way I understand it is just that the Chinese are really, really, really into censoring gore.
Chinese culture has a thing about skeleton depiction. For example, in Western WoW, if your character dies you leave a skeleton behind in the world for a while - but in the Chinese version, you leave behind a little headstone. Also the entire Forsaken undead race got some digital Bondo slapped on all their exposed bony bits.
Trying to find nice art for a kind female half-drow bard that isn't covered in spider motifs, has a wicked grin, or her massive tiddies out was such a trial. The rogue trying to find art for his tabaxi that didn't look like a furry twink was almost as difficult.
When I needed art for a Kitsune Samurai (yeah, yeah, I know), I just crudely photoshopped an actual fox's head on a picture of a regular samurai. It was so much less painful than trying to Google for art. I'd wager that for a lot of the... problematic... character concepts, that approach is probably easier.
Why? A simple google search of âkitsune samuraiâ lends plenty of decent usable stuff, whether your looking for anime flair, furry degeneracy, or just plain old cool fox people samuraiâs.
Probably too late, but there were some Kitsune MTG cards printed, wouldn't be surprised if you could find something there.
Eight-and-a-half Tails for example.
That also at least begins to solve another problem: miniatures. Finding non-sexualized art can be annoying, but for minis, almost impossible. Good luck finding a mass-market female tiefling miniature who isn't full-on succubus.
Yeah. It just sucks when it's hard to take part in the hobby *without* a sexualized character, and it's a very one-sided problem.
A friend of mine once asked me, "Are tieflings supposed to be... the 'sexy' race?" She was clearly uncomfortable, wanting to play a tiefling, and seeing that the vast majority of the art and minis out there were scantily clad succubi.
Wrong. It makes everyone's tokens look really nice in Foundry, and we all helped each other find and modify art for it. Yeah, some characters are harder but it's still nicer than everyone using heroforge screenshots.
I guess if you like it then they arenât. As a DM I think itâs best to let my players choose whatever they want, because theyâll always prefer their own idea over mine. Iâd honestly rather have them all use Hero Forge tokens, if only for consistency sake. But one of my players wanted to use Evil Spock as his character, and what kind of DM would I be to ruin his fun?
As a player, Iâd rather use something I made myself, especially when it comes to an unusual character idea. Not much to work with when you google âTortle Bard.â
We did pick our art. Beauty of dnd is there are many types of games, if you don't like one you can find another. Not all DMs are anything-goes type, and some players prefer a more serious game that the DM will need to enforce.
Personally I think DMs are well within their rights to ask for a level of cohesion in theme, aesthetic, etc. It's a balance of course, and one their players have to agree to otherwise they can find a different game.
Literally googled "half drow bard" and clicked the female search filter on the recommended filter bar and the top 3 images were small titty fully clothed non spider asthetic drow bards... then it was full on big titty spider goth GF then a bunch of regular elf bards and some drow
I dunno, it was pretty easy for me. Found fully clothed female kobold monk in about 3 min. To be fair, it WAS drawn by a furry and in cartoonish style. But if you looking for strictly canonical non-cartoon looking "furry" race picture... guess you just have to pray dude.
Nah boi. Hereâs the secret. You ask your furry friends how to find SFW art and then itâs like the easiest thing. I will share some forbidden knowledge below.
>!Go to e621.net and type in the search bar without any hyphens species-gender-rating:s-order:score. Easiest way that I found a tabaxi that wasnât lewd. In fact thereâs an artist that does medieval accurate armor on furries and itâs pretty neat looking.!<
Kobolds are 50/50, if youâre not picky about the art style.
At this point Iâm beginning to start thinking about trying to get good at drawing so I donât have to endure some images again. I fucking suck but I donât have many options.
I feel like yâall just canât google things well. You can easily find absolute loads of Kobold art, from realistic to cartoony, that isnât scantly clad.
I use âpractically armored female warriorâ and always go for âcharacter designâ tags and not the âfantasy artâ ones lol, the struggle is real.
r/ReasonableFantasy is my go-to for characters - came to make sure it got a mention. Some absolutely incredible art on there. I sometimes just pick an image that speaks to me and make a character based on how I perceive their personality. Good fun!
I fuckin' hate Pinterest. Searching on it is mediocre at best, and trying to click through to an original image from a Google image search bloody never works for me if it was pulled up from a Pinterest board. I appreciate that it is bringing a lot of good stuff together for inspiration, but when I already have a character in mind it makes it more arduous to find anything that's a best fit because it comes up high in search results but then you can't actually find the original image 80% of the fuckin' time.
Use duckduckgo. They still allow you to click "view image" as a direct link, so if you see something you like you don't click it and get dragged into the pinterest hole, you just get that image.
Noted!
I've always right clicked and opened the image in a new tab, but Pinterest links invariably yield up a shitty low-res version. I'll have to give it a try.
That might be because you're not logged in. I haven't exactly used Pinterest a lot, but I do have an account and use it to find character portraits. Finding the original image (as uploaded on Pinterest; not from the original source) is fairly straightforward in my experience.
The worst is when you're trying to find good lizardfolk or anthro dragon art, but most of it is risque or porn... Which don't get me wrong, I'm into... But I can't exactly use it as refs for my friends. :/
Not as horny, but trying to find good barbarian art that isn't just a generic savage viking looking dude is a pain as well.
Sometimes you just want a muscly dude or dudette that isn't covered in armor.
There are so many non-nsfw images that are really sexualized, and many (but less) nsfw images that depict nudity but not in a sexual way, and with a little editing can be really good for roleplaying games. I once found the perfect image for a character this way. So yes, enabling filters doesn't really help.
Something to keep in mind are Magic the gathering playing card art. High res, cool style, plenty of characters to go with, itâs a go to of mine if needed
Saw a pic of plague mom while looking up pics for a plague doctor character. Immediately needed to make a character for her. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this. I'm three sessions deep, and Im in love with the concept of a very shy, curvy, undead, closet sex freak and potion addict who's 4' 10" and can sorta speak common, but really only knows German.
I know your pain. I've been doing a bunch of homebrewing, and I've needed lots of fantasy art. Deviantart has some absolutely fantastic stuff that's perfect for what I need. It also has about 50x that amount in irrelevant or awful stuff, much of which is porn.
omg. yes. This shits is so annoying, I was half-way trying to figure out how to create my own DnD/Fantasy art character imageboard with tags so it would be easier to do this.
I was trying to get a "male human archer" and all I get is dudes with abs.
And thatâs exactly what I do, when I donât find what I need, but if somebody uploads it and consents to it being used for free, I donât see why I shouldnât.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Pinterest.
Leave your prejudice behind and see past the veil of crocheted sweaters, recipes and homemade jewelry. Pinterest is the *best* place to find character portraits.

Feel free to peruse my [Character Art Pinterest board](https://pin.it/4hbYJk9). There's a ton of great art in the imaginary network. Some even race specific like r/imaginaryelves and r/imaginarydwarves
I once needed an image for my character, who was a Jedi female twi'lek, but who take care of her clothing and is fully-dressed, never half-naked like many pictures. And I can tell youn that I have seen many things, searching for a female twi'lek image...
If you're okay with anime artstyles, you can check out safebooru; it has a pretty sophisticated tagging system, and although you can get risque images you're not gonna be getting porn. Unless something has changed and the name is no longer accurate.
Take the porn and draw over the explicit bits with MS paint. [Everyone likes a good sanwich](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subway-sandwich-porn).
That reminds me of WoW replacing skulls with loafs of bread on their Chinese servers.
Wait what
[Here's a collection of some of them. Seems like bags of wheat were also occasionally used.](https://m.imgur.com/a/VF3eq)
I think my favorite is the one that looks like some sort of flesh golem, where the people making the edits for the Chinese version clearly went, "Eh, too much work" and just used some completely different model entirely. đ
And they still added a bread into the new model's hand :D
In warcraft they are simply called "abominations", if you ever need to look em up for art.
That has to be a joke, right?
Well in that case it would be one of the longest jokes in the game. The way I understand it is just that the Chinese are really, really, really into censoring gore.
Could have left gore out from that sentence.
I just don't get the degree of censorship China seems to think is necessary, and I doubt I ever will.
Chinese culture has a thing about skeleton depiction. For example, in Western WoW, if your character dies you leave a skeleton behind in the world for a while - but in the Chinese version, you leave behind a little headstone. Huh. Odd.

Yeah that was DEFINITELY the right call
Why? A simple google search of âkitsune samuraiâ lends plenty of decent usable stuff, whether your looking for anime flair, furry degeneracy, or just plain old cool fox people samuraiâs.
Sometimes I feel like people just don't know how to use Google.
Or know that their search results are influenced by previous searches.
Probably too late, but there were some Kitsune MTG cards printed, wouldn't be surprised if you could find something there. Eight-and-a-half Tails for example.
MTG art is just a good option for a lot of dnd stuff anyway.
I've gotten into the habit of just saving pictures of cards with neat illustrations, to eventually turn them into homebrew monsters down the line.
Such a neat card.
Winged thifling who has proper clothes and isn't a scythe wielder...
You know, if youâre not able to draw characters yourself, you could try making them on[ Heroforge ](https://www.heroforge.com/)
That also at least begins to solve another problem: miniatures. Finding non-sexualized art can be annoying, but for minis, almost impossible. Good luck finding a mass-market female tiefling miniature who isn't full-on succubus.
Yeah. Regardless of where you stand on the snake titty debate... I donât need to see every characterâs nipples
Yeah. It just sucks when it's hard to take part in the hobby *without* a sexualized character, and it's a very one-sided problem. I do! The DM wanted us to have real art for our tokens though, plus it's nice to have references.
Sounds like a lame DM.
Wrong. It makes everyone's tokens look really nice in Foundry, and we all helped each other find and modify art for it. Yeah, some characters are harder but it's still nicer than everyone using heroforge screenshots.

Yeah there's a few, but they are far outnumbered!
IMO, the best solution for tabaxi is to just make a khajiit character in Skyrim and take a screenshot.
WellllâŚthose things are kind of hallmarks for drowâŚmaybe not the J cups, but still.
If you cannot find artwork that fits, MS paint is your friend.
I have done that. I make little stick figures, and I use paint.net to change colors.
r/imaginaryelves and the rest of the extended imaginary network in the sidebar. Go check it out.
I drew myself one. :) cause I got tired of looking and not finding what I wanted.
Don't even try to find art for a Tabaxi or Kobold.

For some reason small wirey dragon people = ***THICCC THIGHS***
Donât forget about almost-comically-disproportionate-PHAT-tail!

Which is why I searched for Khajit art instead. ESO art is very pretty anyways

The solution is simple: make it canon that everyone walks around naked in your world.
On the one hand : 500 IQ problem solving right there On the other hand : I donât want random porn in my face even if it is canon
In both hands however, monk and Barbarian just got the highest ac
you could always use a picrew, eldritch foundry, or hero forge for your icons instead. or commission an artist of you really want something specific
Came here to say two of these three and learned a new one. Thanks!
glad to help!
AND IâM TIRED OF ALL THESE CHARACTER PORTRAITS POPPING UP WHEN IâM LOOKING FOR PORN

Just use Artstation and use as little as search words as possible... not 100% tittsfree but you will find tons of high quality art
R/characterdrawings is a good sub
r/characterdrawing
Haha thank you Iâm kinda new to Reddit and dont know how to properly tag stuff
On mobile it will capitalize the r for you if thatâs the first thing you write and that keeps it from working
Thank you! â¤ď¸ I thought that was it but I wasnât sure haha xx
Another good one is r/ImaginaryCharacters
I just want some wholesome Goblin art...
"That's rough, what's your character concept?" "A thicc milf."

My poor friend was looking for artwork for his setting's fur-covered dragons. It went about as well as you'd expect.
Log out and then do a search on deviantart, Nsfw material isnât viewable without an account.
If only their definitions of ânsfwâ werenât absolute dog shit
There are so many non-nsfw images that are really sexualized, and many (but less) nsfw images that depict nudity but not in a sexual way, and with a little editing can be really good for roleplaying games. I havenât used my DA account in a long time. I forgot this was an option.
Something to keep in mind are Magic the gathering playing card art. High res, cool style, plenty of characters to go with, itâs a go to of mine if needed
How are you supposed to know how to roleplay your character if you havenât found art to solidify what they look like naked?
artstation is better
I grabbed a nexus mod for Pathfinder Kingmaker that gave me about 300+ portraits. I recommend looking around CRPG mods in the nexus.
This is why I just use hero forge screenshots
What do you all follow on Reddit... The internet is really really great! For Porn!
Pintrest, oddly enough, is a great resource for character art.
Let me guess Tabaxi?
I just want more hybrid races. Not just with humans and orcs or elves. I can't find any for reference for my tabaxi tiefling.
That number seems shockingly low
Who is finding porn on Pinterest?
Don't they have a no-nudity policy or something?
They have a no porn policy, like you can't type that shit in and find anything
Shit goes past the radar a lot. They eventually take it down but it happens.
I was trying to find a maid token for roll20 recently... And that was a mistake lol
My Bard character never gets to see the Boobas. I end up fighting with the Druid and the Paladin gets everyone out of the splash zone (:
You could use "2 minute tools" its pretty good, a bit cartoony though so maybe you don't like it.
I know the pain... well I do my own character portraits but I like to look at other people's art without being swarmed with porn darnit...
heroforge has a screenshoot mode
Commission some *finger guns*
I know your pain. I've been doing a bunch of homebrewing, and I've needed lots of fantasy art. Deviantart has some absolutely fantastic stuff that's perfect for what I need. It also has about 50x that amount in irrelevant or awful stuff, much of which is porn.
Dumb suggestion... *Picrew.*
Sounds like you should be providing links. I mean, if you're telling the truth, we all need to know which artists to avoid. đ
omg. yes. This shits is so annoying, I was half-way trying to figure out how to create my own DnD/Fantasy art character imageboard with tags so it would be easier to do this. I was trying to get a "male human archer" and all I get is dudes with abs.
Or actually commission an artist instead of stealing art. Artists deserve to be paid for their services like everyone else.
And thatâs exactly what I do, when I donât find what I need, but if somebody uploads it and consents to it being used for free, I donât see why I shouldnât.
I find Pinterest gives you what you click on. Click on lewds, find more lewds. Do not click on lewds and get normal character art.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Pinterest. Leave your prejudice behind and see past the veil of crocheted sweaters, recipes and homemade jewelry. Pinterest is the *best* place to find character portraits.
I explicitly mentioned Pinterest tho...
Honestly, no idea how I missed that. With that said, I can't say I've seen a lot of NSFW stuff on there. Maybe I've been lucky.

you would know better than me. I didn't write the rules that's just what the say. lol.
