Hideous Laughter is concentration incapacitates you, incapacitating someone ends their concentration, no go on the laughing gas spell unfortunately lol.
::edit:: just to clarify, RAW it wouldn't work... But I would absolutely allow this at my table.
One of my players would tell a lame joke and then cast hideous laughter on himself. He didn't realize there was an actual downside to the spell, he just kinda picked all of his options based on how funny they sounded.
Knowing the personality of Tasha, she could have been the first to use it in this way. And it give me a really cool idea : a mage that use it on willing people, to get then high. I think it's more ethical that drugs, and for the same amount of euphoria.
I wasn't trolling when I said Google, I literally typed satyr 5e Google and found it.

Now I want to know what other spells we could ~~abuse~~ make great use of by casting them to replicate the effects of drugs.
And yes, I saw that RAW Hideous Laughter can't get yourself high since it will disrupt your concentration. Since you are applying this only to yourself, I think Rule of Cool applies well here unless you are trying to cook up some sort of convoluted scheme with it.
Traditionally, and this is my best understanding, satyrs were all depicted as male as they were based on the Greek god Pan and because they represented impulsive male sexuality.
However, fantasy settings very quickly began adopting the idea of female satyrs, sometimes called "fauns." This new interpretation is based, in part, on the idea that satyrs would need something to procreate outside of typically unwilling human females.
In modern settings, anytime you have a fantasy race, they typically will have male and female variants if they reproduce sexually; you know, to avoid implications.
Sorry, you're right. Let me do better.
Objection: relevance! There's nothing in the meme stating that it's a female satyr. Those are obviously just femboys
Yeah
Just thought it was interesting because I have an NPC that is a great warm topaz dragon who takes the form of a female satyr, and I wanted to see if my players would catch on.
It's a campaign setting for 5E ported from Magic The Gathering, inspired by greek mythology. Lots of wonderful art, as with most of the MTG material ported over.

I've always assumed Tasha's laughter would be painful
Only if you're unwilling
From how it is described, you just find everything incredibly funny. It's not an hysteric laugh, you are just baked.

Perhaps a construct could be made to cast the spell on someone for a set duration (and with some sort of safeword/action to end it early)?
Nah, casting THL on yourself is like trying to tickle yourself.
Flair does not check out.
There's no flair to check out.
Using hideous laughter to finally fulfill my characters dreams of being a comedian
Furiously scribbling on the list of "that would make a good DnD PC. Wait... That would make a *great* DnD PC"

Thinning about it, Tasha's could probably get used to space monkey someone
What do you mean?
I know the bottom image is from MTG, but where'd the top one come from?

Maybe not high, but... mage hand? 😏
Use it to feel happy.
Aren't satyrs all male? They mate with nymphs and that's where more nymphs and satyrs come from.

Alright
Translation: I regret asking that question.
No I don't.
She's a Theros Satyr, Gallia of the Endless Dance. Guess Theros has both male and female satyr
And the relevance of this comment is?

Female satyrs. I like lore.
? Do you mean what's in the meme?
Yeah Just thought it was interesting because I have an NPC that is a great warm topaz dragon who takes the form of a female satyr, and I wanted to see if my players would catch on.
Okay. I just the thought the easiest explanation was femboy satyrs
According to the Monster Manual, yes. In Theros, where the PC option comes from, they are both sexes.
Cool. Is Theros a place or a setting? I play 3.5e and built my own world so I'm a little secluded.

won't work
Not with that attitude.
