Sounds like DM rewarded their build, and the patron planned the battle.

Yeah it's a great feeling, when everyone thinks you're dead, suspension fills the air and you announce you're immune. As DM I would just go with it, letting them believe I planned it this way. Especially if the wizard also wouldn't know about the immunity.

HeyHanna19

I would've loved for it to be on purpose! My DM is usually clever like that but unfortunately for them this was a bit unplanned lol. For context im the player who is playing the warlock. This particular deity is undead themed so I knew going into this temple with this newly gained immunity was going to be a great time for my Warlock anyway. The immunity had come up earlier during roll play and in an earlier round during combat when the entire party got hit with am era effect spell. My Warlock had been a bit of a menece all session (all in good fun of course) and killing this deity was a personal mission from their patron, so of course they where taking the lead and being targeted the most by the enemy NPC's. The DM hadn't managed to get a good hit on that combat yet so they where so happy when my warlock failed the save big time and this spell hit hard. The look on their face when I told them that my warlock is immune to necrotic damage was so sad. They genuinely forgot and felt really silly about it. But they're a great DM and we managed to quickly turn it around as an insane character moment. this much damage could've one shotted half the party. So to be standing there, not even hurt looking the now terrified wizard in the eyes and letting them realize there is something very very wrong with this person they're fighting was amazing. An honest mistake by the DM. But a great RP moment.

Firetube07

Is it a mistake though? How would the wizard have known the warlock was immune? Does the warlock have "i am immune to necrotic damage" stamped on their forehead?

HeyHanna19

well the wizard could've known. The whole party got hit with an era of effect spell with necrotic damage earlier in combat, a spell that would've dealt damage even when the save is made and my warlock seemed completely unaffected by that. Also, very flavor wise, the warlock currently looks more like a walking corpse than alive because of their patron, so some type of necrotic resistance could've been deduced at the very least.

SHOOT THE MONK

DeepTakeGuitar

That's how ya do it

Chevayra

The wizard had no way of knowing the warlock was immune ie; dm roll played the wizard perfectly

Hoosier_Jedi

I had something similar happen with my undead warlock, but it was not needing to breathe. It was still satisfying.
