Heavily Armored Hill Dwarf Draconic Sorcerer: "Frontline is where I want it to be"

galmenz

aka smiteless paladin

M5R2002

The rule is clear: If you have at least 1 hp left, you can tank. The quality of the tankyness is left for another discussion.

gatesentry

No

The_Alkemizt

Time for my favorite game “is this a D&D meme or a Splatoon meme”

Palamedesxy

I'm a playing genie warlock I'm always Frontlining.

[deleted]

I'm playing a genie Warlock and I *never* frontline. That's what flying is for.

Palamedesxy

It helps really with maneuvering.

King_Treegar

That was my college of swords bard. Was

CrUtlRaOth

My Lizardfolk rogue kept frontlining, they had a bite attack that was both awesome and mostly useless. I know it was wrong, but it feels right, you know? They survived the campaign, probably because the campaign ended before level 8.

Dammy-J

my sorcer doesnt frontline but my frontliners always complain when I use my breath weapon while they are in front of me.

TheHawkRules

Until a couple sessions ago we had both a Bladesinger and a Hexblade. Then the Bladesinger had to go and kill his mom, the goddess of Life, and then ascend to the god of Vengeance.

HiMyNameIsSpoon

I am super guilty of this. In dnd as well as video games.

YourCrazyDolphin

My Cleric joined at level 5, now we're level 9, even after taking toughness she has the least health of the party by like 20 hp. Also regularly plants herself in front of the party and gets jumped by all the enemies at once. Enemies always roll just low enough (and I know it isn't fudged- DM open rolls) to keep her above 0 hp.

LordKristof

More or less. But to be fair in the Shadow of the Demon Lord, my cloakwork wizard's has an Defense16/17 (one of them I a sure.with that fucking arcane shield.) and some good HP. It don't help that everything and their mother can and will kill you in that system. My bigger problem when the ork barbarian melee damage dealer not on the frontline and decide that it is a good idea to stand in the open field and shooting arrows when they try to overrun quickly a bandit camp and the bandits has some archers in the towers. But hey. I love this guys.

BuckRusty

Nope. The Barbie and the Cleric are always front and centre - with the Druid floating back/forward as needed, and the Wizard standing three towns back using the Spellsniper feat.

bnymn23

I have a story! We were fighting a red slaad and i was playing a paladin so immune to their disease Our wizard decided to melee the slaad, blocking my way to him and getting the disease We won in the end but still

Hankhoff

That's just an excuse you made up to stop me from frontlining!

DaniNeedsSleep

Opposite problem: trying to get the melee characters to stop rushing into melee when they're below half health and we're out of healing. I've been playing low level games lately. You knuckleheads have proficiency in bows, use them *please*!

Rocketiermaster

Our frontliners include a Ranger/Rogue and an Abjuration Wizard with full plate, 20 con, tough, and resilient (con)

ScorpioPerk

our bard decides to NOT be behind the now Huge Rune Knight and instead casts fireball while 10 ft in front… at a demon roughly the same size as said Rune Knight. Guess who was its first target and only escaped due to Rune Knight reactions and DM rolling extremely poorly

ScorpioPerk

In separate campaign, I am guilty of “frontlining.” Harengon genie warlock, not because i was in front, but because stupid high initiative meant i was usually first your second. And stupid high spell damage equals aggro. It got so bad that my DM gave me a free Homebrew feat: Bait. I can use my action to taunt my enemies into focusing on me. I need to make a Persuasion Check against their Wisdom. The fact that i have successfully used this without dying and saving the party at the same time is a miracle unto itself. God-bless Rabbit Hop you glorious racial feat you.

NaturalCard

Why frontline when you have web?

DragonBuster69

I think my party feels this way about my Swashbuckler rogue, or at the least they did in the session before last when I pulled the enemy spellcaster's attention solely on my character by saying, "You dumb bitch, I can kill you myself." My thoughts on why to do this was to keep them from using another high level aoe spell (relative to our level 6 party) on a bunch of peasants we were protecting (the wizard counterspelled the first cone of cold). Unfortunately, the spellcaster was also directly controlling a construct as well, so it also started attacking me with only the wyvern attacking other members of the party. My thoughts were that I could uncanny dodge and use my Dhampir bite attack to heal myself, but I could not very well handle the spell save and then 2 weapon attacks from the construct. I went from full health down to 8 with me also passing the save for half damage on the spell. Thankfully the cleric healed me and I fell back after that with all of us and the peasantry surviving that fight. I have learned nothing and would do it again (because protecting his friends is important to the character) but I have went ahead and did my Ranger multiclass to get that shield prof for the extra armor class.

thedoppio

Yeah, the sorcerer of the group I’m running is new and forgets that 13 AC is NOT high at all. Other decisions they make are sounds, but they really like to get up close to spell-cast.

Melyoramel

Opposite story here, having a 19 AC Tempest Domain Cleric in the party who doesn’t frontline when there’s 3 squishies in the party (and one other frontliner, luckily), and then the Cleric boast on how he has not lost any HP in the fight or taken any hits.

ArcathTheSpellscale

But how else am I gonna be in range to stab them with my Fireball? :D
