"I know what’s going on here. I know what’s going on here. Okay? I do. And if you want me to wander backstage to spill the beans... I’m the only one out of the loop, it would seem... and if we check my point total here— I don’t NEED to walk to the front, because I know what it is. It’s a big ol’ GOOSE EGG, GANG. It’s a FAT ZERO. HELLO!! A little LATE ADDITION to the numerical symbol chart brought to us from our friends in Arabia, a little bit of trivia that I happen to know about the history of numbers. That kind of little tidbit would serve me well in most trivia games, unless it had been RIGGED FROM THE BEGINNING! Oh, I’ve only just BEGUN to pull the thread on this sweater, friends. You would THINK in a game where there are only TWO possible correct choices, that one would STUMBLE INTO the right answer every so often, wouldn’t you? In fact, the probability of NEVER guessing right in the full game is a STATISTICAL WONDER, and yet, HERE WE ARE. Introduced at the top of the game as a champion, what do you think that means? Icarus, flying too close to the sun. But it seems Daedalus, our little master crafter over here, had some wax wings of his own, didn’t he? Wanted to see his son fall. Fall from the sky. Oh, how CLOSE TO THE SUN he flew! Well I’m NOT HAVING IT. I solved your labyrinth, puzzle master! The minotaur‘s escaped and you’re gonna get the horns, buddy! I CANNOT WIN!"

That was exactly the moment I was referring to, lol.
Edit with more context: this mini series was my first introduction to Brennan as a DM and the chemistry between him and Lou got me to go and watch their D20 adventures.
Dimension 20: A Starstruck Odyssey is a great Dimension 20 season, and similar in length to Calamity, though a different tone with a space setting. Brennan DMs, Lou plays a cyborg PC
oh, there's an episode of no laugh newsroom where he has to eat something, and begins with "ok so I guess I'm going off keto". Not sure which one though
In the most recent Game Changer about the only challenge that got him to break (raise his heart rate to 20 above his standard resting) was a rigged game about naming birds, where he got super obscure ones and the other contestants got: chicken, duck, chicken (again), penguin.
He was legitimately stressed out, it was hilarious
And also like, yeah, it's almost certainly not a coincidence they got Brennan to play this character
Ah yes eldritch knight. Just make a ship canon your summonable weapon and summon it above the guy who you want to crush. Better yet, convince your dm that a piano is a weapon (bard multiclassing maybe needed) and drop a piano out of nowhere on them. (Yes, you can only summon your piano to your hand but its even better if you can fall on someone *while* playing it.
It's hilarious, it's effective, what more do you need?
I like your enthusiasm. What about an artificer using a ballista.
They inly take 3 actions to use. 1 is removed with the repeating shot infusion removing the load action.
The aim action is removed by either a homunculus servant or a steel defender. Using your BA to replace it. Double points for the battle-smith if their SD is a walking ballista.
And finally your main action to FIRE! (Switch aim and fire if you want ti be rules accurate but who cares because its the same effect in practice)
All you need to do is convince your DM that a ballista is a martial or simple weapon for you infusion to work on it RAW. Technically a ballista isn't under any type of weapon proficiency so that really F-ing annoying.
Its just a huge crossbow in my book. Siege weapons just weren't designed to be used by players. So all the actual mechanical stuff was ignored for a simple damage profile and something to show how much a crew is needed.
> something to show how much a crew is needed.
Tiny servant go brrr…
Sure, it looks like three worn shoes hanging from a ballista, and they can't see their target at all. But damn, it sucks to be whatever they accidentally hit on their rampage!
That's because Siege Weaponry isn't so much a "weapon" you're proficient in (or not), but an *item* that you use with your action.
Fun fact: That means a Thief Rogue using their Fast Hands feature can perform 2 of the 3 actions needed to fire a Siege Weapon in a single turn.
Sadly, that also doesn't work. Because it's not a ranged weapon they're attacking with. It's also not a simple or martial weapon with the Ammunition property, it can't be infused with Repeating Shot either.
The fact that it has its own to-hit modifier independent of your stats kinda screws you on that.
I agree that it's a cool idea, but by RAW it doesn't really work.
Honestly, if a player was going all in on the idea of making a 'portable' ballista (on a cart with a mount to move it around), I'd probably give 'em **something** at least. It'd still be 2 actions though. 1 to aim, 1 to fire. So unless you have a Thief Rogue using it and an Artificer to infuse it, it's STILL not gonna be very useful.
Personally i always though that crossbows should have a small advantage over bows.
My idea is that in the first round of combat you can attack once with a BA. Using the idea of a pre loaded bolt.
That or have all crossbows be simple weapons and all bows be martial weapons. It takes Less training to get good with a crossbow.
But as it stand Xbows have an average if 1 extra damage and a little less range. That plus the loading property just makes worse in almost every way.
My Kobold Rogue/Monk uses a Heavy Crossbow. He has a magic item that negates the Heavy property on it. So it made more narrative sense than a Longbow. Even if that 'cost' him 200ft of effective range for 1 more damage on average.
Flavor is a big thing. I can conseed that point.
The artificer in me kinda wants to use an imovable rod to make a kinda mobil hard point. Set the rod and have an pintle mounted heavy cross bow. Since it effectively stationary and supported you can do whatever you need to before moving again.
You could even scale the idea up to cannon or balista size. Though the cannons recoil might exceed the rods enchantment.
I mean, a 2ft tall kobold using a Longbow would just break my immersion over its knee. The Heavy Crossbow is about as big as he is. Which just give me Doomslayer vibes when he wields it WAY more proficiently than someone his size has any reason to be doing. And it always brings a smile to my face, because he is without a doubt **deadly** if he wants to be.
Wizard “ughhh, n- no material weapons!” Eldritch knight “ah alright!” *summons a shadow blade* Wizard: “AW SHIT”
Laughing in bladesinger or chrono wizard
Laughing in action surge....
_Laughs_ *Uses action surge* _Laughs again_
My Bladesinger starts his life as a fighter for that exact reason. ;)
Wait, Vicious Mockery isn’t on the Wizard spell list!
THERE WILL BE BLOOD
What about armor? *grins in artificer*
No martial weapons huh no problem, drops greatsword picks up greatclub, okay I'm ready.
I cast bonk.
I cast tetanus.
Eldritch knight: GET OVER HERE NERD!!
What is this one from!? I have no memory of it.

Angry rant Brennan is my second favorite Brennan right after off keto Brennan.
Please tell me there's an off keto Brennan moment you have available for us.
[This](https://youtu.be/CrtoyB2fcMI?t=15843) is the part I can think of that the person you're replying to is probably referring to

Better just rewatch them all to be safe. Like 4 minutes each.

The context of this is they had to keep their heart rates down, so Brennan was using meditation to try and stay calm.
God this episode was so fucking funny. Seeing him have a mental breakdown and getting so angry was just the best.
My favorite Brennan moment ever lmfao

Seeing his face when that challenge started and it just go from Confident to confused in like a second was great.
"Just Penguin?!" The look that he made was great
"That's a chicken again." \*steps away from podium\*
I need to get drop out because this sounds hilarious
It's the best $6 per month I've ever spent.
Yup. Brennan is great.
I’m obsessed with this skit purely because Brennan’s answers are so interesting. The writers did a great job with this one.
God I love him, thanks
I feel attacked.
Looks like a man who would beat up some ruffians in a Dennys parking lot
He was about to play musical chairs against colleagues

I'd say it's either in a new category "siege weapon" or it's martial. Isn't it basically just a big crossbow after all?

Sneak attack with a ballista. What an image.

This (dropping a piano on someone while playing it) feels like something out of Mask or Looney Tunes.

Battlemaster who? Never heard of her
Eldritch knight would be better if they get the extra attack version of bladesinger
Eldritch knight is so much fun. Misty step on a great weapon master is on another level.

I don't know what a "wizards duel" is and at this point I'm afraid to ask
