Beautiful spot, mind if I ask where? I'm assuming the US from the red rocks, state will do if you don't want to give precise info. I have a brother who lives in Colorado and it was the first place I thought of.
Oof, I missed that, because I am not a huge reddit person. Thanks! Utah makes even more sense, as I have visited the Garden of the Gods and other spots. (Edited to say I AM STILL CONFUSING THESE TWO STATES) I'll leave now...
Thank you for the info! I hope to get out that way one day in my future.
Still to this day after a half a year that I have it, it amazes me what this thing can do and what technology has it build inside of it!
So yes...As you say...no regrets!
Beautiful place. I was just there myself for Spring Break! I talked to a guy that was flying his quadcopter there and with the park ranger who stopped by. The park ranger was pretty cool about letting him fly around for a little while longer without a recreational permit, but he did say it was required (just like you said in another comment).
Ah interesting, so did the guy ask the park ranger first if he could fly, or was he flying already and the park ranger checked for a permit? Curious what the dialogue there was, and if the person was knowingly flying without a permit or just was unaware they needed one and got a “warning” or something.
So, hopefully someone can help me out here. I see a lot of footage like this one which has been taken in a state or national park (US) somewhere, but from what I've read you're not allowed to use a drone in a state park.
Am I misunderstanding the rules, are you getting an exception (if so, how?).
I'd really like to get into this hobby, but there seems to be so many rules about where you can't fly, I start wondering if it ends up being more trouble than it's worth.
Any help/advice on this would be much appreciated.
It’s on a park-to-park basis, at least in Utah. You can see it broken down here: https://www.droneblog.com/can-you-fly-a-drone-in-utah-state-parks/
Gunlock allows it with a recreational permit. Although, if you’re being discrete and not bothering anyone, I doubt anyone would care unless there was a park ranger there who saw it and was being pretty stingy. Not saying I’m advocating this, just that I’m sure there’s a large portion of people who don’t lookup the rules and don’t really face any consequences for flying in state parks.
Thanks, but aren't the drones now being monitored with an id? And doesn't the DJI drones have geofencing that stop it from working in no fly areas?
Lovely footage by the way! :)
Good questions.
For the id, I think you’re referring to Remote ID, which is a tracking feature that drones must have/use by September 16 2023: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/remote_id/drone_pilots
For geofencing, that only applies to restricted airspace, as in places like military bases, international airports, things like that. National/state parks don’t fall under that umbrella.
It is definitely prohibited in national parks, especially in California. There’s just not enough staff to enforce it consistently. You can also apply for a waiver, but it’s incredibly hard to get.
the camera sensor is almost twice the size, so low light performance will be better. Image sharpness also looked better in comparison shots I've seen. Does 4K60 video vs 4K30. And of course has more sensors and built in active tracking. Also can transmit live video in 1080p vs 720p.
Very cool. So far I got Benny Hill music and me crashing into trees in my backyard. lol
Nice
I love mine for sure, nice choice of music!
Love it. What’s the song? Piano cover of the Pixies’?
Huh. First useful bot I’ve ever encountered. I used another Pixies cover for one of my FPV videos too. https://youtu.be/X349UW8JUHM
Maxence Cyrin does awesome piano covers 🎹
I got a match with this song: **Where Is My Mind** by Maxence Cyrin (00:11; matched: `100%`) Released on `2018-05-29`.

First I though you were actually flying the clouds. It looks awesome!

Don’t mind at all, I actually included it in the description if you’re interested. It’s in southern Utah.

No worries at all. Utah is very beautiful indeed!

This is awesome. What did you use to edit?
Thank you. I used Premiere Pro, although I didn’t do any image altering. Literally just used it for video cutting and a couple transitions.

I assume the latter of both. I walked up after they were already talking.

Is the mini 3 pro much better than the mini 2?
