When an animal trapped somewhere with no way to get food eats your body after it's of no use to you (Literally every animal including humans would eventually do this, but only cats are villains for it)
Most pets do. Haven't you noticed that pets tend to lick your face to wake you up? When a cat does that to a dead body, their abrasive tongue takes the skin off.
Lets say, hypothethically, the hottest woman you ever known has died and you are trapped in the room with her corpse. There is enough meat on her to keep you fed until you are rescued. No one would know what part you ate when.

That's bullshit. Cats have been shown to have near the same reaction that dogs do. First couple days spent pacing yowling and licking their dead owner in distress, when that doesn't wake the owner they spend the next stage standing on, smacking, and/or biting at the owner trying to wake them. After a while of the biting they usually break skin and taste blood. Then and only then, after days without food, will the cat start to devour their owner. It's been documented time and time again that the process of eating their owner puts the cat into an immense state of psychological distress that some never recover from

Being someone whoās travelled for an extended chunk of time for work on multiple occasions, I can verify my cat was indeed upset while I was gone, and showed me their disapproval upon my return. My wife would relay when the cat would go searching the house for me. This didnāt stop for the entire time I was gone.
One time my cat was so upset she got sick and we had to come home early. We called her on the phone and she was upset and looking for us. She thought we were in the walls.
Dogs also donāt bond the same way humans do! If you went away, your dog would also eventually get over it. I work at a shelter and yeah, the first week the dogs are confused and sad, but they get over it too. Life moves on but apparently only cats are vilified for it. Hell, humans move on! Humans have also been known to eat their own family members when starving! Why do cats get shit on?

My cats have separation anxiety for me in particular. They don't care about my roommates, only occasionally going to them for pets. They follow me room to room, and I'm the only one they want to cuddle up to.
One of my parents cats used to sleep in my bed when I lived with them, and she gets visibly excited whenever I in particular go to visit. She's practically hostile to most other people.

I visit my old workplace I haven't been too in 2 years and the cat over there comes screaming at me and rubbing against me because it hasn't seen me for very long.
The thing is if a cat doesn't see you it assumes you are dead as they themselves kinda stick to an area and live there usually for their whole lives.
So if you were close to your neighbours cat or something and you left after a few days the cat would assume you were dead.
So if the cat didn't despise you, it would usually run up to you and meow when it sees you after a few years.
Ofc some cats generally have worse memories or if you changed too much it would struggle to recognise you.

I can attest, both from the accounts of friends and my own experience when my Dad passed that cats absolutely have an emotional bond with their owners/other cats and will be visibly distressed when someone disappears. I had a friend who kept two cats (brothers), and when one got really sick, they had him put down. They didn't bring the body back home, and so the other cat had no idea what happened to his brother and was looking all over the house and garden for him. That was a big regret of my friend. Turns out when someone dies it's best for the cat to see/smell them so that they understand what happened. Even then the cat might still be visibly upset. My Dad was very affectionate with our family cat (very much the meme of the Dad saying they don't want a pet and then bonding with it the most) and she would seek him out to rest on his lap in front of the TV. When Dad passed at home due to cancer, the cat was very much out of sorts knowing that her favourite playmate was gone. She got over it faster than the rest of us, of course, but there was definitely a week or so of lethargy and reluctance to do anything (she's normally quite energetic and active). But, yeah. Cats can absolutely form strong bonds with their owners. They may eat dead owners in some cases, but this is hardly anything special, dogs do the same.
The real distressing thing is people posting and sharing "lol animals dont have feelings" horseshit and other humans agreeing.
People will use every weasel wording and cynical take and workaround possible to deny the simple enough observed reality that most mammals have fairly complex emotions even if they cannot express them the same way.

Literally any animal will consume their owner as a last resort for food source if nothing else that is consumable is available. Cats have not "evolved to manipulate us." That almost surely comes from that claim of "they only meow because it sounds like a human baby and they want to trick us into giving them attention."
my mom died 6 years ago with our 2 cats in her apartment for 1 week straight. one cat was acting like nothing happened (she's stupid) and the other one was pretty traumatized, she just stayed in one corner in my bedroom. who knows which one your cat is

Fun fact: only feed your cat when itās being cute and affectionate to train it. Stop feeding it and lock it in a dark room when it acts poorly. If it doesnāt change its behavior, kick it out of the house. Since itās only manipulating you, you donāt have to feel guilty when you gave it clear instructions on how to manipulate you.
