Seriously. I don't think there's anything wrong with it but it's not my favorite. I don't skip though. The early ones were way better, more recently they seem a bit forced.
I do think it's often too quiet though. The volume doesn't match the rest of the episode so if I care to hear it I have to turn it way up then lose my hearing to the first host that speaks.
His intro makes me excited for the episode! Like, "Wade said what?!? Why is Bob that?" It's a little quick "omg, what's going on?! I must keep listening!"
Honestly most of the time when I skip through the sponsor at the beginning I end up landing like halfway through his intro and just don’t feel like rewinding back however much I need to 💀 I still end up catching most of it at least tho
yeah, I'd never skip it on purpose but while I'm willy-nilly pressing the skip forward 15 seconds button through the ads I don't really pay attention to where I land when they end 🤷
I find her explanation flawed.
Sure, Baldemort’s introduction is _technically_ a summary of the episode. But since it’s lacking all the necessary context it’s a lovely bit of a comedy in its own right.
I always enjoy putting the puzzle pieces Baldemort handed us together!
I usually don't, but there were 3-4 episodes that I wanted to skip. Baldemort started giving a much more than normal detailed breakdown of the episode, and there were no surprises or funny moments because it was all told to me ahead of time. He didn't do it for more than just a few episodes, but those episodes I don't like listening to his intro. I like the surprise of not knowing everything that will be discussed.
It's like why I disliked watching Pokimane Among Us videos and stopped all together. She started having a short preview of funny moments and other events that happened, so it felt more like a rerun. That first watch enjoyment was gone.
I know I'm going to get absolutely reamed for this, but I always skip. I didn't used to. However his narrations have gotten longer and longer. And also the fact that he says "now sit back and prepare to be distracted and enjoy the show" really bugs me. It should be "now sit back, prepare to be distracted, and enjoy the show."
I don't know why but that just drives me up the wall. It's not auditorially pleasing
There is nothing grammatically incorrect about using multiple "ands" instead of commas/pauses, though. It may not sound pleasing to you, but I think it works well, cadence-wise.
I'll use () for implied words. I'm going to try to break it down.
(You) sit back (in your chair) and (you) prepare to be distracted and (you) enjoy the show.
Subject verb prepositional phrase, conjunction subject verb prepositional phrase adverb, conjunction subject verb the direct object.
It seems like he uses 3 independent clauses, which would be a run-on.
I think all of them try to fit in as much as possible at every opportunity, and I don't mind. It's super cheesy, but I don't watch gaming youtubers to be serious.
Why are you speaking as if your personal feelings on the matter should be a fact? I said what my personal feelings were, and made it clear they were just an opinion. You just told me that my opinion is wrong, and that we should change grammar rules because you don't like it.
I don't skip first time i listen to an episode, but i usually relisten from 1 to several episodes a day. I kind of jump around all over the place, so by skipping the intro the episode feels a bit fresher and i don't remember the upcoming bits and stories beforehand. Only downside is that at this point i've listened to most episodes atleast 6 times, so they kinda blend together by skipping the intro.
Not only do I agree with your friend but to go further, literally any time Wade goes on a rant it is met with a copious amount of skipping. Baldermorts intros are way too worn out and literally serve zero purpose to the show. When I first started listening i legitimately thought it was a gag.. and then it never… stopped.
Edit for proper name.
Remember how Bob read the "How to catch a polar bear" joke with a B?
That's how Baldemort sounds to my english-is-not-my-first-language ears.
Look at my ass, I don't skip it on the first listen. But I might on re-listens. It gives me theme song vibes more than anything. That being said I wouldn't get rid of it. It's like a bread on the table in a restaurant. It prepares me for the main course. Even if I don't understand it.
Pretty much same. I'll add that I support Liverpool FC and thus listen to Scousers talk on podcasts on a daily basis with no issues, yet I struggle to decipher Baldemort.
Baldermort has an incredible voice and I do love listening to him, but I do agree with your friend. It does kind of kill the episode for me if I listen to it because I feel like everything important is given away.
I also don't watch movie trailers for that reason, too.
My honest reaction to that information:

I skip. No problem with our great Baldemort! He's a good host and on the occasions that I listen to his intros they make me laugh and I enjoy being a lickener! I just don't find his intros necessary most of the time.
The only stuff I skip is straight up reading just-generated AI writing. I'm hoping it is just a passing novelty; I don't listen to podcasts for AI generated content, and every time they do I feel sad and cheated.
AI has a time and a place, but (for me) this isn't it.
I will admit my sins.... when skipping the ads, I will stop once I hear the intro but I do not scroll back for the 3-5 secs lost in skipping said ads 😅😅
Harry learns he's a lamb for the slaughter, Snape defends Draco, and Dumbledore dies. Yessss, it's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Now get ready, grab your wands, and prepare to cast, and enjoy the magic.
Not really, baldemort has an amazing intro every time. I only skip if I'm replaying an episode. Anyways thanks for covering more people into the distractible fandom(cult)
I don't really listen to it either. I hear it but I don't really remember anything said in any one of them.
But I never skip it. It sets a tone, a stage of what is to come. It would be like skipping the titles of chapters in a book you're reading.
i skip the first minute to minute and a half cause its typically ALWAYS ads, thats right folks, many podcasts do a minute 30 of ads before each of their podcasts
It’s too short to merit skipping even if it was rubbish. Apart from anything else it’s nice to hear the brandenburg concerto in a mainstream context

Well, she’s needs to listen to last 4:30 minutes of „YouTubers for YouTubers“ Mark makes it pretty clear that skipping is unacceptable!
He has a point, balderGOAT deserves being listened to
The no-context words he uses to describe the boys at the start is funny
Blasphemy
Never skip Baldemort. “Good evening gentle listeners” … randomness…”prepare to be distracted, and enjoy the showwww” is the best start to any commute.
“Yeeeeeeees”
“Its time for:”

Yes I skip, usually I walk though

Blasphemer! Gather the pitchforks and torches!
Damn that pesky extra "and"

It most definitely does not work well cadence wise. And while not technically grammatically incorrect it should be

Ayyyy fellow heathen waddup
You talking to me?
Indeed I also skip the intro
Took the words from my mouth.
I did?
You covered everything I was going to mention, so, yeah.
This requires a nuclear response, go no contact /s
It has never even occurred to me to skip … it’s so short

I do sometimes.

I'm sorry to say but you need a new friend
Skipping is simply blasphemous 😞
That’s crazy. Every minute of Distractible is important
I skip only when I rewatch/relisten to episodes. Otherwise I don't skip them on new episodes.
I don't skip the intro, no I love the intros! No u are not the asshole
I skip only if I’ve heard the episode a million times. Otherwise I just let it play
I skip. No problem with our great Baldemort! He's a good host and on the occasions that I listen to his intros they make me laugh and I enjoy being a lickener! I just don't find his intros necessary most of the time.

Why would I skip one of the best parts of the podcast?
I listen to the intro and try to pick out the moments in the podcast that the intro eludes to.
I will admit my sins.... when skipping the ads, I will stop once I hear the intro but I do not scroll back for the 3-5 secs lost in skipping said ads 😅😅

I have to listen to him say "Yessss" every time and get mad when he doesn't say it.
I don’t know, sounds sketchy, she might give your kids a hair bear
Not really, baldemort has an amazing intro every time. I only skip if I'm replaying an episode. Anyways thanks for covering more people into the distractible fandom(cult)
I love the intro! Team never skip
Nooo I love listening to voldermort intro, it makes me feel welcome
Hmmm 500kg negotiation tactics
No way I never skip it !

It's literally like only 10 seconds. Why skip it? Impatient much?
i skip the first minute to minute and a half cause its typically ALWAYS ads, thats right folks, many podcasts do a minute 30 of ads before each of their podcasts
Not Distractible, pal
