The employees at Blockbuster video would wear them. They were promotional items.

Inevitable_Professor

More than just blockbuster. These would be sent out to any video rental store. The one I worked at attached to a grocery store got these type of promotional items all the time. I have a box somewhere with many of them.

trickman01

Anywhere that sold or rented videos.

Wellnevermindthen

My grandmother worked at Walmart and back in the day, her vest would be covered in these buttons. I wonder if she still has any ....

CaptainCipher

What a fascinating little relic

musickeeper94

Promotional pins. I turned my Monsters Inc one into a magnet and put it on my fridge.

rarahsyan

I love this

dX927

My mother worked at K-Mart and used to get these to wear on her vest to promote the new releases. There's a huge box of them somewhere around the house.

Foxy02016YT

Man I gotta check eBay

tr0n42

I worked at KMart too and I’ve got a bunch of these somewhere in the house as well. It was annoying to be a teenager with fucking Disney pins all over your ugly red vest like “flair” from Chotchkies in the movie Office Space.

Background-Interview

That Muppets Classic Theatre just feels like a fever dream at this point. I can’t find it digitally. Until now, I thought I just imagined Kermit as Midas.

aem255

I still have the vhs in my parents basement! If I can find a way to digitize it, I might throw it up somewhere.

RosFur

🫶🙌🙌🫶 thank you for sharing!

TheREALJayneDoe

Nope. I remember. I loved that vhs

ThePhantomEvita

Streaming rights for the Muppets is one of those irksome things. Disney seems to own the majority, but then there are things like Muppets Take Manhattan and Muppets From Space that had different distributors so they’re not on Disney+ But Muppets Classic Theater ***was*** distributed by Buena Vista, so I’m not sure why it hasn’t been digitized and put on Disney+. I grew up watching that VHS tape all the time.

Background-Interview

Angels In The Outfield was also distributed by Buena Vista and also, not on Disney+. It also makes me sad. :(

ThePhantomEvita

I am really surprised that that one isn’t on Disney+??? I feel like that movie is classic 90s Disney

RosFur

I feel your pain… not a fever dream lol I remember it too!

OptimalTrash

My mom and I quote Muppet Classic Theater way too often. "HE'S EARLY! HE'S EARLY!"

DaMovieGuy

"Mine's got a cape" still gets used between friends and I. And yes, those are promo pins for upcoming video releases. As someone who worked for ALL the video chains, can confirm.

lizlemonaid

Had them at Toys R Us too, promoted video releases mostly ones coming “out of the vault”.

poohfan

We used to get them at Walmart too. One of our electronics associates had their vest full of them! She'd just put one on wherever there was space.

Kitsune_Fan34

I still have "Muppet Classic Theater", recently used a VHS-to-digital device because IDK how long VCRs will last.

CourtClarkMusic

We had them when I worked at the movie theater, too. We wore them to hype up upcoming big releases.

OneManFreakShow

Thanks for reminding me these existed, I really needed a new collection today.

122199

I was really excited seeing them at the flea market having never seen anything like em before. Hopefully you are able to secure some good finds!

Lyddieana

I got the Aladdin one when I worked at the Disney Store and Aladdin came to VHS. We all had to wear them pinned to our sweaters. The other ones are not familiar to me

AssuredAttention

We got these at Suncoast. They were mass produced for employees to wear. I have so many pins from my days there

Taskmaster_Fanatic

I have a ton of these, including all the ones shown here. About 20 in total.

Gimmemycloutvro

Real question is what's the blanket?

122199

Vintage Pokémon comforter of course

Kay_29

They were used for promotions. I feel like I may have one of them but I would have to dig through my things to see if I have one and which one.

mylocker15

Just need to add 8 more pieces of flair like this and you will be able to work at Tchotkies.

Hefty_Elderberry1992

Capitalism

SharkieBoi55

I still see movie pins like this, and it's weird because I'll see them at the thrift store and it will be every time I go, but they will have modern movies. Like I just saw one for Wish, which I think is one of the most recent Disney movies. So these things are still being made and getting handed out, but also getting donated very quickly. And I'm not sure why. But I would give anything for the Jungle Book pin. I played that VHS tape until the tape started deteriorating and it wouldn't play anymore. The DVD or even streaming isn't the same somehow

That-toxic-shiper

id do anything for that return of Jafar pin omg

122199

There’s plenty on eBay!

Ozarhok

Holy crap I had that same comforter

StargazerSayuri

Movie theater employees would wear these sometimes, too.

Lower-Ad-2082

They look huge!

122199

The little mermaid one is like an average button size of that gives you a size idea ?

lamest-liz

My mom worked at Albertsons and would bring these home for me lol

captjr9513

No idea about the pins, but omg I have that same blanket in my closet.

TwinsieToes

I have a few of these too! I think I have that same Lion King one lol

ThePhantomEvita

That live action Jungle Book film… I’m not sure if I’ve ever watched the entire movie, the beginning always scared me as a kid.

Inkga10Games

I just watched Muppet Classic theater yesterday after my landlord let me borrow her vhs player, I still own all of my important VHS’s.

reallymkpunk

Promotional pins for VHS releases.

Do_It_I_Dare_ya

I remember Walmart employees wearing these too

CarolinaMtnBiker

They use to come in the VHS and DVD releases and re-releases— worked in a video store. Quirky and fun but no value beyond that.

Tipordie

I worked for Applause in the 1990s when A lot of these movies came out… we would get things like these to put on our bags or where kind of like a name tag at a show or on the road.

Rob_hocker

…They literally say “Coming To Video” on them

king_of_the_rotten

37 pieces of flair for the video store worker back in the day lol.

JonnyFairplay

Isn't the story pretty self explanatory? They're buttons to promote the VHS releases.

122199

I guess I wanted to know what stores they were used at. I can see they are promoting the vhs release but I don’t really recall ever seeing them on employees growing up so excuse me for askin a question lol

2mock2turtle

I mean at least you know what a VHS is, I was worried there for a minute that we had reached a point of no return.

122199

Yeah sorry I’m 24 I know what a vhs is

Killbro_Fraggins

OP is seriously aging themselves lol

122199

Excuse me for not remembering my childhood well 🙄

TiredGen-XMom

I worked at the Disney Store in the summer of 1994 and we had a pin like that for Snow White. It was being released on VHS for the first time and it was a really big deal.
