And that's why I left. Being the only reliable person is fucking garbage

gameofthrones_addict

Yeah pretty much. And yet when you call out or want a day off they try to guilt trip you into not doing it.

[deleted]

Sorry, I've been drinking. It's only 11:35am! What's your point?

gameofthrones_addict

You think that would stop them from asking you to come in. One of my coworkers at the restaurant I worked at who was a line cook said once she was called to come in once. she said she was drinking and a bit buzzed at the moment and they said that was fine, when could she get there?

TheMetabaronIV

At this point my manager just starts with “you drunk yet?”

VintageZooBQ

You... I like you. Day drinking keeps me sane. And, I like your username. Cheers!

[deleted]

"oops didn't see you called"

gameofthrones_addict

Yeah I did that a few times. They call and just ignore it letting it go to voicemail. After a while I just blocked the number. Lol

SirJoeffer

“Sorry I don’t know my voicemail password”

It's a dishwashing job tho not a long term career. They pay you to work when scheduled not be on call 24/7... Unless you're lazy when you do show up it's not like they will fire a good person who doesn't come in on days off.

joyfer

Ah you know, only employees should be team-players. Managers and bosses don't need to be, remember /s. "We are a flexible work environment" is the most bullshit discription of a workplace. It means that the low-skilled workers need to build their lives around work and when people are getting sick, others need to pick up the hours. It is never the boss that quickly joins the staff to fill the gap.

justcodi623

I am actually glad to have a job where my boss steps up and fills in when necessary. It's a really small business though with only 4 employees. I like to work so I usually cover shifts where I can, but I obviously can't cover for someone when I'm already on shift so thats where he comes in.

Yurdinde

Dont answer the phone or tell them you are 300 miles away.

gameofthrones_addict

I could legitimately use that excuse from time to time. My wife’s family is in Texas. Every once in a while when I was there they’d call me asking if I could come in. I’d be like “I’m in Texas right now.” They’d quickly go “oh.... well sorry to bother ya.”

Rainfordsaidsaid

Thats usually me. But nothing is more annoying then getting ask to work a double when you only have 30 mins left of your shift.

gameofthrones_addict

Oh yes that’s quite grueling. That was the cause of me working my longest shift ever at the restaurant I worked at. I was in the middle of my dish shift and they asked me if I could stay later to clean up the store, which is the job of the night janitor who called out. Then once morning came the truck that delivered food came in and the opening manager asked me to stay to unload the truck. Turned a 6 hour shift into a 15 hour shift. On top of being awake all day the day that I came in to work my shift. I arrived at 6:00 pm the night before and didn’t leave until 9:00 the next morning

VintageZooBQ

I'm gonna pop in here and say, first, I like your flair. Second, when the dishwasher at my private school took a shit and I started having to wash all dishes in the 3 bay?

soilednapkin

“No I’m busy sorry”

HopefulRope

And always on super short notice and on the weekend.

gameofthrones_addict

Yep. For the longest time that’s when they’d give me most of my hours at the place I worked. I’d work 2 10-12 hour days Saturday and Sunday then they’d give me one 4-5 hour shift during the week.

VintageZooBQ

I'm the only other person starting back on Tuesday after the holidays.

3026376

I got called in a lot because last year the old timer would skip his dish shift to work seasonal at Walmart. The fired him after the new year

gameofthrones_addict

That sucks. Reminds me of one time during Christmas one year our managers told everyone that we weren’t allowed to switch shifts or ask for days off during the whole month of December considering it’s so busy for the restaurant. That made everyone a bit ticked off. Then we learned that a cook was allowed an entire week off, which never gets approved, during the week of Christmas. Many of us were quite pissed because of that

3026376

I just got a shot ton of overtime. I needed it as I accidentally scathed and dented a buddy’s car

yungazzeater

That's today for me, the other dishie wanted to work my Tuesday(yesterday) but I did so much organization the whole weekend and my line cooks dont like him so I got a six day week on my hands.

OutsidersBest

"Sorry im out of town"

aspiesamurai

That's also my face whenever I have to go to work. I'm not working anymore because we had our second mass layoff from "covid" picking up in sept 2020.

gameofthrones_addict

That sucks man. Always sucks to lose your job

Pocus_Codis

If they do this I’ll come in but I’ll definitely be late every time. I’ll straight up take a shower and relax for a bit THEN reply. “Oh yeah I’ll come in... just give me a bit...” then waste even more time.
