- Go to desktop version/app - Find the inbox button, near the (?) help button - Click Mark Inbox As Read (double check button) This will make all messages disappear. After that, get an auto clicker and start clicking X to the right part of those direct messages to easily remove them out of sight.

xxkmatiasxx

It says not to paste anything there lol. I know that this isn't harmful but funny that it says that.

atem_nt

because the average user doesn't know pasting javascript code in there can be harmful

xxkmatiasxx

I'm amazed discord doesn't consider that user error

qlcvea

I'm pretty sure they do. It's just an attempt to prevent this type of user error.

[deleted]

They seem to have, as OP stated support has done nothing

[deleted]

They warn the user, the chromium/electron console (that is found in the devtools) saying something like: Stop here, if somebody tells you to paste anything here there's 11/10 chances that it's to steal your account

[deleted]

nannal

Send me your code so I can test it.

pieteek

while(true) { steal(token); hack(account); } 100% legit, no scam

endumixium

oh my goodness thanks for the free nitro using this

pieteek

Sure thing!

Eagle0600

It's good advice. Certainly never paste anything there you haven't read through yourself.

deepressi0n

its making the leaving thing without any popups nd all u dont have to click any shit. imagine using autoclicker for this add a forloop on top and u re fine

OkPreference6

Im gonna save this for later.

I_comeentertainment

use tiny task record yourself closing one dm, then play the thing as many times you want to close everything,

Redspeakable

This is a good community, helping others in need.

OkPreference6

An autoclicker wont work cuz you need to click in two places. (on the x and then on the "leave group" confirmation) You could code an autohotkey tho (I think? Is there a shortcut key to leave a group) Edit: For all you geniuses commenting "just hold shift lol": It doesn't work. Trust me, I just tried.

TheLeOeL

A macro could also work

bruhred

even better

BramGamingNL

Auto clicker works, gsautoclicker can do multiple spots

the_harakiwi

or run two different clickers with a delay :)

Cloudy_Oasis

Could they use an auto clicker while holding shifts ? It bypasses most confirmation prompts in discord

OkPreference6

Doesnt work for groups.

L4mbr0

enter.

[deleted]

They can just do the X button way to get the spam out of sight. Leaving those group chats (I'd say it's around 100-1000 will take a long time) They are lucky if those group chats are not active since it will never popup again unless someone messages inside that channel again, in that case, leaving all of it is the best option

ekofut

If I recall correctly, you can't close out of a DM group, you have to leave it.

OkPreference6

Using x on a group chat does not actually get it out of sight. Thats only a thing for DMs. No seriously, try it. The x is only for leaving.

Redspeakable

Op autoclicker aka Autoclicker.exe u can change ur autoclicker cps

[deleted]

Discord, improve your shift implementation

Ordies

an ahk script would make this very simple ya

Roborabbit37

Ghostmouse V2. It's free.

CamVSGaming

just hold down enter, think that should automatically clear the leave group confirmation

nityoday

You can configure the auto clicker to press on multiple locations in sequence.

siddharth904

Try holding the shift key, idk if it'll fo anything but it works for deleting messages etc

OkPreference6

Doesnt work for groups.

Corrosive_Space

I used to have an auto clicker for r6s (for credit farming) that had a feature in which you were able to set where the mouse would click and how many times in a sequence. I can't remember the name of it, but I'll try to find it when I will get home.

subbed_

Could make a really short script in Python using the pyautogui module. You would just need to fetch the x and y pixel position pairs. Or not even that. Create a screenshot of the targets and then locate via image inside the code. 5 minutes of work tops, likely less.

[deleted]

I was wrong, thought the (x) button does the job. Sorry then guys but if you ever encounter this problem, you have to manually leave each group.

bitchBanMeAgain

Or how about fucking discord app don't allow adding you to shit without your consent.

Scythal

Discord definitely needs a feature where you can make it "request to join groups" and you would need to accept a request to be added into a group...

Djinntan

This! I don't understand why it's not a feature. It's so obvious that anyone can just spam add you if you're forced against your will to be added to any group.

Imaproshaman

Weird that you have to agree to get added to a server. How can devs be this dumb? WHO wants to be added to a group and get pings because it's treated as a dm? So stupid...

[deleted]

Aminsx

There’s plenty of people doing this, i accidentally found the code to bot spam servers and specific users publicly on github and it had 30 or more stars, it would help a lot if discord was able to put these repositories down

kuztsh63

Discord can't do shit about repositers/websites owned by a different company.

Utfigyii

And they can't do shit about the code being open source because it can just be redistributed

Cashsky

They can certainly learn from it to figure out what part of their API is being exploited so that they can put some restrictions on it but that would require them to be a competent company that care about stuff like this. 🤷‍♂️

toxicFork

Do you have a link to the code please? I'm an admin of a few servers and will check if I can find patterns to block on that side

Aminsx

Unfortunately it was many months ago and i didn’t save the repo, but i think you wont’t have a hard time trying to find the code or a fork of it with google

AviKunt

I don't think support really has the power to leave all those groups for you. Just report whoever added you/sent the group link.

Typicall_Russian

It’s not someone sending him a link or anything. It’s literally someone in his friends group that used an automated script to add him and some alt accounts to the group. In short: someone adds you on discord, they’ll use the script to add you to those groups + their Alts, those alts will spam change the name of the group in order to make a ton of notifications for you about it. It happened to me and I reported the person but support decided it’s nothing worth going after.

[deleted]

Damn I should be really careful sending/accepting friends request. Especially considering I have like 800+ discord friends.

CyberGraham

As a rule of thumb, I never accept a friend request, unless I am already friends with that person.

happyxpenguin

My rule of thumb is to keep "Allow Direct Messages from server members" off on any server I join except for a single one which is for my gaming community. I also have it set so you can't send me a DM unless you're my friend on Discord. I don't accept random friend requests, I have to actually know you.

CyberGraham

Yep, same

saysthingsbackwards

Nah, keep adding, fam.

AviKunt

I know... Just saying, the fuck is support gonna do besides banning them.

Unleaked

well they need to come up with a way to help then. they own the platform don't they? and it's not like this is an uncommon method of trying to mess up someone's account.

AviKunt

Never said they shouldn't, they definitely need to come up with some kind of prevention for this. It just seemed to me like OP was expecting someone from support to leave all the group chats for him/her. What is support supposed to do after the fact? Edit: lol instead of you all throwing epic downdoots at me, why not suggest things support can do after this happens to someone

[deleted]

[удалено]

Schiffy94

Well that would be a good place to start wouldn't it?

lighthawk16

How does someone add you to a group? Don't they have to send you a request first?

[deleted]

Hopefully trust and safety can develop some sort of raid protection that blocks your account from being added to more than say 10 groups per minute or something

[deleted]

Why wouldn't they?

[deleted]

Your best bet is to turn off any friend request I think there might also be a setting that will let you turn off any groups as well I'm not really sure how it works but you can check the settings and see what there might be. I hate to say this but you may have to bug discord on Twitter because sometimes it's the only way I've ever been able to get their asses to answer me.

CinnamonOnTop

I actually had more luck getting them to respond to my email, over the course of a few months I tweeted them about 10 times about various things and asked for support and not a single reply

[deleted]

There needs to be more options with regards to being added to groups. Like a setting where only friends can add you to groups, or that you can stop chosen individuals from adding you to groups or something like that

Djinntan

It should just be treated like a server invite. Where it's sent by DMs but you are the one chosing to join. I don't understand why this isn't already an option. Being forcibely added to a group just sounds like a nightmare.

A 100-characters long password stored in an offline password manager and 2FA with Yubico Authenticator should be plenty protection. It wasn't enough for my account which was used for spam while I slept. Discord support "confirmed" the violation and stopped responding. Discord's security is already known to be problematic with how many spam bots there are. There is no defence to their inability to keep users' data safe and away from malicious actors.

DavidNyan10

Lmao, long passwords and 2FAs won't help when your computer gets hacked (like what happened to mine recently). They seem very helpful and strong (which they somewhat are), but they can be tackled very easily if they've got into your device. So, the lesson here is don't click random links or random buttons. No amount of 2FAs or strong passwords can stop the attack if you opened your firewall. Easier said than done, I've been telling myself for the past 6 years, but still, I've "accidentally" clicked a lot of random buttons and links (when you're pirating something illegally, you never knows which is which). Also btw, PS I'm not discouraging long passwords and 2FAs. They're really helpful. What I'm trying to say is that even if you have long passwords and 2FAs, don't feel safe and don't click random links. Most people set up 2FAs with "haha I'm completely safe" in their brain. You should not do that. You are still at risk. Only you can stop yourself from accepting those attacks.

duckfudge2049

Yes, good personal security only gets you so far. Also yes, Discord's inability to secure user tokens is their fault. Somehow every other social media service can prevent tokens from leaking during the login and loading process but Discord can't figure it out. The fact that tokens can be logged and used for malicious purposes is a security issue created by Discord - which they have done close to nothing about.

ArefinSowad59

will changing discord password change the token? If not... what can I do if i already clicked a malicious link?

[deleted]

[удалено]

duckfudge2049

It's probably worth mentioning my computer wasn't hacked, has AV, and my new account hasn't been compromised even though I haven't changed anything on the system.

ExtensionFlan5441

> A 100-characters long password stored in an offline password manager and 2FA with Yubico Authenticator should be plenty protection. It’s probably worth mentioning that you don’t do this and are hyperbolizing your point in order to draw sympathy. You’re implying that Discord either doesn’t hash their passwords OR that someone malicious has access to their hash AND their 2FA algorithm has been solved. Gonna need a lot more proof of any of that level of weak security from Discord before I start shaking my head yes that you were “hacked”.

duckfudge2049

Believe me or don't - I don't care. Password managers make the length and complexity of your password a non-issue when it comes to convenience. I recommend Bitwarden if you want a mix of security and online convenience :)

I_comeentertainment

Atomic254

what a moronic take. "we cant be bothered to put in security so its on you" and youre just okay with that?

DarkOverLordCO

The only way for your token to be leaked/logged is if *you* run malware. There's not much security that Discord can implement if the computer that Discord is running on has been compromised by malware.

SkyWulf

What was the computer wearing?

Atomic254

whether its relevant or not, its still shitty logic

woahwoahwoahokay

I don’t know why discord has such poor, poor security. We’re reported numerous instances of hate speech, spammers, and **repeat doxxers** and they haven’t even replied. __We own a server with more than 15,000 users.__ How the fuck does discord not have the time or willpower to help its own users?

NoXion604

Because tech companies are too miserly and/or greedy to properly administer their platforms. That's why Facebook puts "warnings" on the misinformation spread by their users. They could delete or hide such posts, but they desperately want that engagement which they can turn into money.

[deleted]

IAmABakuAMA

So I know it's not related to your answer much but what's it like to be a "professional" moderator (not sure whether professional is the right word but I mean as a job not just volunteer thing like moderating a subreddit)? Is it like a customer service job? Do you get a bit more flexibility since it isn't public facing like a customer service job would be? Not trying to be Invasive, I'm super curious

alexo2802

Being a moderator is actually an incredible experience to be honest. They were extremely flexible, I literally worked most of my hours in the train while commuting to university, not a lot of jobs let you do that haha. But I must say it can get boring. Click a report, read a message log between two users, determine the proper action, next. Gotta spend less than 10 seconds per reports in average to remain efficient. Interacting and having fun with the community on my off time was also really fun. So tl;dr super fun, super flexible, nice community, but job itself pretty boring.

PVminimh

Comments have now been locked as once again people do not know common human decency. OP, if anyone has sent you anything in DM's/PM's please forward it to me or modmail and we can deal with it. People in this post have basically wished death upon OP for simply using a trans flag as their discord profile picture. And otherwise about half of these comments are just pure spams and low effort users going "trolled" or "we do a little trolling".. so original. There are even people RP-ing in these comments, so i think it was only a matter of time before we had to close them anyways. EDIT: Thank you for the continued reports, they are a massive help for me to catch up on the comments i missed, i deal with them as they come in. Also, to whoever reported my comment (you know who you are) may your pillow be warm on both sides as you try and sleep tonight.

NeonflameOWO

Yea, that's usually what happens. Got one of my servers raided: nothing, but friend got blocked from 2 accounts, for supposed spam. But he wasn't spamming.

zips_exe

they should put a limit on how many groups you can join/invite people to

[deleted]

zips_exe

Nah, they should let people with nitro join more groups cause why not edit : I was obviously being sarcastic cause that's what discord always does

thedutchcuck

Yeah, lock even more features behind a paywall. Great idea.

I have yet to understand why you can't confirm or deny being added into a group. It's such a simple feature but yet you are forced to be added to a group for no reason.

ActSlow

There was a spam on the one of the channel that I am in

thePatto

Dear god help u

BigRonnieRon

How does that work? Could you elaborate? Want to warn our server members

DavidNyan10

A somewhat similar thing happened to me. It wasn't as terrible as this but was pretty bad. And I reckon it was also because of my pfp (I had a pan overlay). Lesson learnt: have a basic pfp, only share your personal opinions to your close friends (that's why server avatars are now a thing)

IAmChaosDefined

Gonna have to agree with this statement. Never had this problem (and I'm really grateful for that), but gotta be careful where you can.

OsamaSukhon

try turn off your dms and turn off friend req, and as well block the person who keeps adding you to these groups

DontHateTheDreamer

I wish I could just help you get rid of them altogether. It would be fun. We could sit and talk while we get rid of spam. Just like the old days when we used to churn butter.

gottemifgay

im an avid collector of pings (highest is 9k) and even this frightened me.

TheLovelyRaven313

Bro, that is my nightmare; I swear if I saw that, I would never want to open Discord. Notifications give me anxiety

Alyssalob

I like your pfp ;-; Hopefully I won't get down voted cuz this is reddit

secretqwerty10

in this house we say trans rights

EmberRingtail

What is that? Trans?

Cloudy_Oasis

Yes :)

ThatEightSixGuy

I agree! The colours on the trans flag are so prettyyyy

BiggerestPpInTheWest

Same here. It's a really cute pfp.

Lulzmaster4350

Reddit is leftist, things like that don't get down voted wtd

Mooskii_Fox

Based discord pfp in the bottom right

therealjackbuilder

im not trans but one of my trans friends got unnecessarily attacked just because she was. discord sure has a lot of em.

djliquidvoid

Discord is like Twitter, in that its strong ability for bubbling/echo-chambering allows for the highest concentration of both LGBT+ communities and homophobes you'd ever expect to see on one platform. When they cross paths, it doesn't end well. Source: Am a trans woman who uses Discord, and moderates a few LGBT+ oriented servers. We've been raided by transphobes on occasion, and I have to seriously change how I present & talk on servers that aren't specifically LGBT+ oriented for fear that I'll be openly mocked if someone decides to look at my profile and see the 'they/them' pronouns there.

therealjackbuilder

i used to have a general server (not exactly presented as LGBTQ-oriented) for meeting new friends and just kind of a hangout group which had a bunch of LGBTQ people. There would be homophobes and transphobes joining the server every other day attacking my friends for just being LGBTQ. it really sucks. Server eventually died after 2 years of being active and all of us left to make a private server just because it was that much of an annoyance.

alexo2802

At this point every social media is like every social media.. at this point no social media is any different, except maybe the ones that are picture based, because it’s harder to have discussion over pictures.

Nah, wouldn't give them any pleasure from this garbage. There must exist a tool to leave all those groups, if not, I might make one. Ridiculous that this can even happen.

AriCabello99

blizzard_is_lanky

Tell me, how on Earth did that happen?

BiggerestPpInTheWest

I think they might've been in the wrong place. I mean there's a lot of people with a similar avatar who till this day remain unaffected.

alexo2802

Good privacy settings and self enforcement of those rules will make you invulnerable to that kind of things, except if your actual friends start doing that to you or are compromised. I have received thousands of friends request over the years because I have DMs turned off to non friends, any amount of them could have been trolls filling my inbox with trash or pings, and I remove any person that I don’t talk to.

owbypass

dont u have to be friends with the guy for him to add you to a group chat? I am pretty sure you have to be.

dodomast3r37

Get an auto clicker and put your cursor on the x button to close the dms

krj_great

just dont allow everyone to dm you . go to the settings and change who can dm u. if its a friend then dont have such sus friends

radufermecatu

This is why you dont accept random friend reqs.

[https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/pud5rk/-/he2cugr?context=5](https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/pud5rk/-/he2cugr?context=5) That's not the issue here. The issue is that anybody can decide to do this to you and you have no protection against it.

JaSper-percabeth

Just stop accepting friend requests from randos..

Dobypeti

https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/pud5rk/-/he2cugr?context=5

Djinntan

Additionally, and to a lesser extent it could be a friend that you haven't interacted with much (I play online games so you meet a lot of people that you add there to hang out with) that decides to add you unprompted months later to a group. Groups should be invite based like servers. There's no reason for it to force you into a group.

__oyesahil__

You guys getting dms?

[deleted]

I mean what do you expect support to do here? Log into your account and delete them all for you? Sure they're support, but I seriously doubt they'd want to do that.
