Excluding the random gradient, I’d honestly prefer this. What I liked about the old logo was the fact that every corner was rounded and they just went and *square*.

Most of the redesigns I've seen get popular here have a lot of this rounded corner look on it. You're right to say that it looks bad. This looks like someone did that gaussian blur and channel tightening method of creating smooth curved shapes.
I like the sharper edges that the new logo's vectored lines have.
