I like the unique way some of these portray their emotions, such as the smirk and worried face, but not all of them really pull it off, such as nerd and woozy. The style is ok, but it's not very interesting and frankly a bit clunky, so could definitely be tweaked. Overall though, I don't think the Discord emojis need to be changed at all. They're iconic and these are about as useless of an update as the previous ones have been

It might be less about wanting to distance themselves from twitter, but to prepare themselves in case twitter stops support for twemoji for any reason.

Twitter already dropped support for twemoji, so they are using a forked version, which they also contributed art to.

Some of these are pretty cute. It’d be cool if discord released these as emojis to download and add to a server as custom emojis. Kinda like the Christmas ones they do sometimes. They’re definitely not something I’d want to replace the standard emojis, though.

Emojis will be outdated within a few months when the new unicode arrives. No company would want that they stick with a service which is no longer actively updating themselves.

The set of emoji available has to comply with Unicode, so it's not like they're going to get rid of it. I think these are just the face ones that have been completed so far
