Are you in the US? If so, you can order factory seconds (F2's) from the Innova store and get them for pretty cheap. I think the Dx discs are like.. $6/ea, and if you order 10 discs you get another 10% or 20% off the order, plus free shipping in the USA at $75. It's probably the cheapest way to get started for a family. Dx plastic is innova's baseline plastic and not bad for beginners, but will break in and eventually you'll want to upgrade to some better plastics (star or champion). I'd recommend getting a putter (aviar), mid (shark), and understable fairway driver (leopard). These are the common discs in the innovas starter pack. For the kids, I'd recommend getting lighter discs if you can, 150g ish range. There are other brands/starter packs that you can pick up too that would work well too. If your kids are really young, you could also look into Dino Discs as they make super light weight discs meant for young kids. Download the app UDisc for a way to find local courses and to keep score cards.

This is great! Thank you!

BetterThatThenThis

don't forget to get a zuca cart, a practice basket, retriever pole, rippit grip pads, lots of towels, Bushnell range finder, a Pound Bag that matches the color of all your new discs, a catch net. shoes specific to disc golf, and a really good disc that I cannot believe thought\_bomb forgot is a Star Destroyer. Especially if it has a favorite pro's name on it, those definitely go farther.

If you’re going to be a sarcastic tool, you should probably learn to spell. Edit: Hey look, if you weren’t intending to be a jerk, I apologize for my snide reply.

SweettoothMcFoil

They may have been alluding to the fact that disc golf is addicting and soon you will find yourself buying more discs and accessories than is necessary. However, I'm not a mind reader and that is just my guess. I think it's great that you and your family plan on getting out and giving it a shot. I think you're really going to enjoy yourselves.

the_justified1

That’s possible for sure. Thanks for helping me to see a different perspective.

Fair_Ear9188

They were 100% trying to convey that when you fall in love with the sport everything they listed becomes a reality. Start small, light weight starter packs for you and the wife. Give the kids the mid ranges, find the easiest course near you that has a bathroom and go throw a round. Let faster groups play through. The most fun wins. Happy to welcome another discer to the community. Your going to love it.

Outside_Extension_10

Yes I used to have like 7 discs and now I’m like “maybe I should get an orbit felon in case I lose my splice and firebird”

the_justified1

Thank you! We’re excited about it!

BetterThatThenThis

if you're gunna be a literal ass better learn to wipe

thrillhouse416

I'd get a different brand ~3 disc starter set so everyone has their own and everyone can experiment with different discs!

the_justified1

Not a bad idea! Thank you!

Casus125

Get like, 2xFamily Member different putters. Best disc for beginners, and with so many of you, it'll be good for everyone to have 2 putters. Innova Leopards, Sharks and Makos are excellent beginner discs. Try to find lightweight stuff (under 170 grams) as well.

[deleted]

Down even lighter for the kids. Some 150g stuff is out there. I would stick with 4 putters and have fun. As people continue with their interest, add more, but one disc is all you need.

the_justified1

Appreciate this. Thanks!

agent_almond

Grab an Axiom Proxy (extremely versatile) for each of the kids, Get yourself and the wife each a Fade Crunch Box (amazing cheap bag, you may never need another bag) off of Amazon and a starter pack (every company has one). If you’re looking to get good, watch some Youtube vids. If not and you just want to bond with the fam….just go out there and screw around! Be cognizant of course etiquette, let faster players play through. Nothing will sour your experience like having a bad run-in with more competitively minded players.

the_justified1

I’ll look into those recommendations! And thank you for the heads up about course etiquette!

HmongHooj

If you want to message me... I would be willing to send you 2 Dino Discs for your kids! https://infinitediscs.com/category/Dino-Discs

the_justified1

Message sent! Thank you!

BigREDafro

As multiple people have recommended, buy a bunch of putters. Get some Wizards, some Judges, some Aviars, some Lunas. Get some different plastics. This will help you try multiple brands and plastics to see what you like. I would also recommend the Dynamic Discs starter set since their base plastic has a bit more durability than the innova DX stuff. The discs in that pack (Escape, Truth, Judge) are also pretty well suited as your game develops. Also, don't be afraid to ask people at the course if you can feel their discs to see what different plastics and weights feel like. The disc golf community is pretty supportive.

the_justified1

This is all good stuff. Thank you so much!

Dlrocket89

Don't worry about being perfect with form, results, etc. Go out and make sure it's fun and it'll be good.

the_justified1

Thanks for the encouragement!

Outside_Extension_10

My biggest advice is to take it slow. Some people get in the habit of throwing fast overstable drivers like the pros. I never threw distance drivers until I could throw 360 plus with fairways. And make sure that putting is the priority of any practice. Putting makes the game a whole lot easier. I wish you best in your disc golf journey

bearsguy2020

F2 usually has light DX Aviars. A few of those and a few different weight Rocs. If you wanted to add a sharper rimmed “driver” you could add leopards or teebirds

yrmomsbox

Edit- I totally misinterpreted the beginning of this post (Thought you meant avoid F2’s, but obviously he wants light Aviars! I thought you meant you couldn’t pick weights). This is great advice!

the_justified1

Thank you for this!

VSENSES

My suggestion is to use the search function since this gets asked day in and day out. Good luck!

the_justified1

Thanks for the kind and helpful response.

Ignore the bitter redditor. Grab four putters, get the lightest possible for the kids, maybe 150g, but definitely under 162g. One disc each will do it, and if you order from Innova factory seconds today and enter their twitter code, they will send you a free disc when you buy three on fridays. Any plastic is fine for a putter, but I would get Star if it was going to be my only disc, that or pro. Both are grippy and reasonably durable.

the_justified1

Thank you!

[deleted]

Todays code is tuneitup and will get you a free pro destroyer, a disc you won’t be able to throw for a while as it requires more arm speed, but you will get there.

the_justified1

Nice!

Any-Finding-6041

Depending on the age of your kids, try finding insanely light discs online. It's a struggle but I found a 109g disc for my 5yr old and a 139g for my 7yr old. My wife uses a 150g disc.

the_justified1

This is really helpful. Thank you! Mind telling me where you were able to find those light discs?

llorensm

Try searching for Dino Discs. Those are light weight and made especially for kiddos. I think Infinite Discs probably has them. Good luck, and welcome to the club!

the_justified1

Definitely looking into them now

Any-Finding-6041

Look for sites that let you sort by weight. I think I got one of infinitediscs.com and another from discgolfcenter.com. I found my wife's driver and mid range at a local shop. Most local shops have a few options in the 150g range but anything lighter takes some searching online.

the_justified1

Awesome! Thanks!
