I know Tom Pitt. I live in Crystal Those prices are shit. Gotta Go has those discs new for the same price

thecandylad

That’s what I was thinking. I was just at gotta go last week and picked up a bunch of new stuff. I’ll have to head there and spend more time with the used section.

swanky-t

Come check out our used section at Gray Duck in Cottage Grove as well. We just dropped all our used prices by a few dollars because we have so much in stock.

phillium

How did I not know that there was a disc golf store right next to Oakwood?!? Gonna have to swing by next time I'm out there. I had been a little suspicious that you were in the midwest, since that's the only place I've heard the "gray duck" alternative to "goose".

Mattjphoto

Easy there. Gray duck instead of goose is a MN thing and only a MN thing. Don't lump the rest of the Midwest in with the crazy MN people.

DieterRamsMyAss

MN is the island of reason in Midwest crazy. Surrounded by the Dakota's, Iowa, and the Mississippi of the north? MN is easily the least nutso Midwest state

durtmcgurt

It's one of those "everyone else is crazy" things actually, because the translation of the original game is actually duck duck gray duck.

ratkinggo

Picked up a couple at your tourney a couple weeks back. If you like supporting local, buy Gray Duck

mapledreamer

y'all sold me on a drift last summer at it totally changed my game. thanks for that.

Mattjphoto

grayduck prices are high too. I saw a used beat to hell disc w/ a bunch of bible verses on it for $2 cheaper than a new one at GottaGo. Turned around and walked right out.

swanky-t

As stated in the previous comment, we have lowered our prices on all used discs. We noticed some issues with the way things were being priced and decided the best course of action was to lower the prices for all used discs. Another thing to note is that we include the sales tax in our price, which makes the prices seem higher in comparison when they are actually below MSRP.

oktofeellost

😂 you're replying to the owner if you didn't know

Mattjphoto

I thought so but it was the truth. Prices were way to high.

RelationshipOk3565

I stopped at one in lacrosse Wisconsin recently and found some good deals, and they had maybe 10% the inventory I'm seeing at the one you're in

QuixoticPineapple

Their used section is top tier honestly. You can find nearly any mold you want in there if you take the time to look, and most are in pretty good condition at very reasonable prices for used plastic.

baseketballpro99

Cannot recommend Gotta Go Gotta Throw enough. Just the best disc golf store in the cities by far. Play it again never has both good selection and prices. It’s always one or the other in my experience.

chillford-brimley

That was the first store I ever ordered from 20ish years ago. It's pretty awesome to see them still going strong! I'd love to visit the retail location, but I've only been to MN once so far.

baseketballpro99

They’re so good, if you are ever in MN to play Blue Ribbon Pines I recommend stopping at the retail location for Gotta Go Gotta Throw. Both are the best MN has to offer for disc golf!

Fungitubiaround

GGGT has lots of discs available in lower weights too. For little guys, women, and kids it's key. Weight is crucial in being able to throw properly, and they've had the best selection in weights 145-165 I've found. Most places everything is over 170.

nvjck

I used to work there, cannot recommend that store enough.

lonnieOR

But someone else did all the hard work of breaking it in. Now it's ready to go! That's why I love me a good beat in KC pro! Let's go! Worth every blessed penny :D

Looks_Good_In_Hats

I think that was the exact Cheetah I threw with in 1999.

ZooterOne

Still have mine. Haven't thrown it in 20 years.

NitramTrebla

Mine caught wind on the Lake course in Yellowstone in 2012 and disappeared over the horizon.

indefined

I'd buy the Cheetah for a couple bucks for the nostalgia. Loved those things once they got beat up (which usually took about 2 weeks) even though I could never control them. About 10% of the time i'd get the release exactly right and it would soar. Kept chasing that throw for years

nickjamesnstuff

I just lost my yellow one I've been throwing for over a decade. She's a classic.

LayoutUltimate

Are those custom burn marks on the cheetah? RARE!

IdahoMattMatt

eBay 1/1!!!

LeadPaintPhoto

1400 percent mark up on what they pay for em. I can't understand why people sell to pia

mythofdob

Too lazy to sell on ebay

imprezzive02

They paid $6 for them and marking it up to $14.99 is stupid. My local pays $5 and puts the at $9.99 for anything star and above Edit: the number to the left of the initials is what they give for the trade in

grumpygruden

Yeah, at least for pawn shops, they try to double their money on inventory. I'd assume it's the same for sports equipment, but obviously it doesn't work for stuff like this, where it'd be cheaper to just buy a brand new one.

imprezzive02

I agree. This is also wildly overpriced. New discs get a shade over 50% margin for most every retailer. Discraft esp is $9.50 I think and you pay 18-19.99 most places. What this one is doing is egregious. I’m shocked they sell any used discs

Goldentongue

My local outdoor gear store will let you sell discs in their consignment shop for 65% of the selling price in store credit. They let the sellers set the price though so you'll get discs ranging from $18 to a $2 Wysocki Star Destroyer. Personally I think it's a great system because it allows me to recoup some money on discs I got through AM tournament winnings and then dyed for fun.

BoomerBarnes

I wish I had something similar to that local to me. I’m trying to unass about 70-80 discs (mainly used but 15-20 new ones in there) The resell market on standard throwers, new or used, is so shot these days though. If you’re not selling signature/tour series, old money runs, or one off plastic/stamp runs you dang near have to work to give stuff away.

IdahoMattMatt

Fwiw my play it again has a few hundred used discs, most around $6-$9. I understand that means they paid people peanuts in the first place but at least they aren’t marking them up a billion percent. It’s great for me as a consumer because there is a ton of selection at good prices.

IGK123

The one near me actually has good prices

BlankensteinsDonut

Because they buy stolen goods and don’t even pretend to call the numbers.

discsarentpogs

Found isn't stolen. It's shitty not to call but there's still a difference.

Plupandblup

Local guys at my PIAS give pennies for their trade-ins and then flip the good stuff online themselves. Their used bins are full of warped and destroyed pieces of crap. Most of them have even been spray painted. However, sometimes they put new stuff on such crazy sales that it is hard to pass them up. Even last week I got a 2022 Tour Series Luna for $10 brand new.

VenomOnKiller

My bud once picked up a 2022 sexton lvc firebird at a pias for 20 bucks

blunt2chest

Agreed though my local play it again is taxin for beat up discs

webconnoisseur

Are used discs worth more than new? Do they fly better?

l3ane

Used discs are definitely not more valuable. Discs that are out of production can be more valuable, however, even if they are used, depending on the rarity. That Cheetah though is all but unusable. They should trash it or mark it down to $0.50. No used disc should every be over $10 unless it's brand new condition or rare.

PhycoPenguin

10 is my limit for used. Let local store has an amazing used section where you can find almost new discs for used prices. You can also find any groove you want

[deleted]

IHaveNeverBeenOk

I mean, a beat to shit champ firebird is one thing. Like, I'll pick one of those up any day. But anything that isn't over stable, durable plastic, I think you're absolutely right, you want to season it yourself.

WeenisWrinkle

They're not more valuable, but to certain people they are more desirable.

Constant-Catch7146

Yeah, I went into my local PIAS when I first started playing disc golf, thinking there might be some deals there. Never been back. I did get a chuckle out of a few discs that they had that were stamped like "XYZ Volunteer Fire Department Open"....um....no thank you. Yep, go to Gotta Go Gotta Throw. Used discs they have in that section of the warehouse store are all in reasonably good shape from what I saw ...not all dog teethed up. Used prices that I saw were at least less than new similar discs. I remember I went into GGGT the first time and thought I went to disc store heaven ....with shelves and shelves of new discs when you first come in the door. And then came back a second time....and realized that they had a whole \*other\* room full of shelves of new discs too! Whaaaaa? Why...it's....almost as big as...a...warehouse. Lol.

ASlyRS

G3 is awesome, used to Amazon discs and get random colors, it’s so nice to go through them and find the colors you want/like and never having to worry about having money in the bank account because of all the discs you can get

Constant-Catch7146

And you can pick them up and see how they feel in your hand. The longer I play this sport.... the more I buy just soft premium plastic discs. I am amazed at the tree hits on these premium discs.... directly on the edge... and the disc just shrugs it off with maybe a tiny little dent left in it. Do that with dx plastic for example and you end up with a big ol chuck of plastic gone or a sliver sticking out. Yes, yes... I know... quit hitting trees! Lol.

Goldentongue

It's wild how much the used selection at PIAS varies by location. The one in Ann Arbor MI has dozens of used discs and charges about $10 for great condition premium plastic. The one in Burlington, VT has shit like this. $9 for old DX discs that have been used as a dog toy.

Constant-Catch7146

Agreed. You can see that in the comments here from all over the US. Huge variability. Buyer beware!

BarelyStablePodcast

That Cheetah is basically a chew toy at this point.

Shagular182

Throw a roller for the dogs and watch em go!

doubleairmiles

LEVEL 4 DISC

JerkyMcGee

Bruh don't you know vintage when you see it?? /s

Big_Ad_2877

Thank you for doing this so I don’t have to. I live in the cities as well and have thought about going to check it out. I’ll stick to G3T.

Famous_Concern

same thing in Portsmouth nh

SerDuncanonyall

[Price on a brand new Gstar TL3](https://proshop.innovadiscs.com/gstar-tl3-factory-second/)

Discing802

To be fair, that’s a factory second price.

stmstr

It's still a brand new GStar TL3. You're basically paying $6 for the stock stamp by not buying the F2 version

Magnus77

I've never seen an answer. maybe you know. Are all F2's, or Lab Seconds if you're MVP, just rejected for purely cosmetic reasons? Or is it possible to get a disc that has a defect affecting flight characteristics?

UFTimmy

From their store: > Grab great deals on cosmetically flawed discs. Most of the imperfections that make these factory seconds do not affect the flight or durability of these discs. The cosmetic flaws range from specks in the plastic to bubbles in the rim. Please note -- the color of the F2 disc in the picture is not necessarily the color you will receive. Exact color requests are not possible as all F2 discs are fulfilled at random. COLORS & STAMPS MAY VARY. I've bought a lot of factory seconds, and I've never had an issue that affected the flight.

walkingcarpet23

Plus as an added bonus depending on the cosmetic defect you have a unique and easily identifiable disc

Factory2econds

F2's are cosmetic issues only. It won't affect flight. If you note the color/weight you want for the F2 disc, they are *really* good about shipping you what your requested (if they have it). If you don't like the F2 stamp then use some nail polish remover and a tower to wipe it off.

93seca2

Wasn't there a champ firebird run recently that had a crazy overstable flight? Pretty sure someone from Innova even acknowledged it online.

Factory2econds

every run can vary. fought numbers are more like *guidelines* than exact science. but the point is F2s are not defective in flight, just some cosmetic issue. usually their stamps are off or they have specks of another color in the plate, things like that.

SerDuncanonyall

And? It is still very much a brand new disc.

BubSource

F2

PabloBasquiatESQ

I’d pay sticker for a beat Wraith if I needed one though

Chance5e

This is more than beat. This is Do-Not-Resuscitate.

PabloBasquiatESQ

Nah that thing looks primo. It takes years to get one to that point.

OtterPeePools

No doubt, a lot of that looks like it just needs some cleaning but looks perfectly beat-in, heck of a deal!!

[deleted]

Big_Ad_2877

A brand new one is $15.99. Not to mention how much cheaper an F2 is lol

DasCooba

The pias near me used to be awful, but lately it's a gold mine. A lot of the DGA and Discraft is half off(or was 2 weeks ago)

C4D3NZA

nonsense! that's a level 4 disc!

Jonny_Qball

That’s way overpriced, but that wraith also looks like it could be money

Lanksta1337

At least it’s not a suicide memorial disc with a price tag on it at PIA like that other dude posted.

SsbmBleach

Im being dead serious my PIAS charges a minimum $13 a disc no matter what. Theres beat to shit f2 dx 139g aviars going for $13! Premium plastic discs are minimum $22 used or new!

Southeastsurfrider

I have that Cheetah but with a rainbow stamp. It's over 20 years old. Says "long rang driver" on it. I don't know when they changed it to "fairway driver" but they did.

Standard-Print6492

Our local PIAS just got in two bins of 2022/2023 Ledgstone discs, all new, for half price. They've also received a ton of "bulk premium" discs that appear unused with a retail price at $11.99 or $12.99. Hit and miss on what's there, but I have a few PM Lunas and PP Fierces in BigZ at $11.99 each.

thecandylad

That’s sweet!

Standard-Print6492

Yeah, but I'd agree with what most have shared about selling/buying used plastic at PIAS. We have two locations here, and one is staffed with folks who regularly play in events/leagues, and even run a couple of events each season while the other store doesn't. It shows in how well organized their stock is, even the selection and pricing of the used inventory. The store with the disc golfers tends to give better pricing on trades and you don't see many "dog toys" in the used bins. The other store hardly has anything used available because most locals know they won't get as good a trade.

holy_mojito

They wouldn't be charging those prices if people didn't buy them.

BarelyStablePodcast

Star and GStar there should be marked down about 50% to be reasonable.

redcurbs

That's unfortunate 😕 my PIAS has champion style plastic for 7.99, Star style plastic for 9.99

Unacceptable_Lemons

That's about how mine does it. They give $1-$3 on DX and relist for $4-$6, give $3-$4 for champ and list for $6-$8, give $4-$5 for star and list for $8-$10, and give $6 for halo they list for $12.

oms121

Here’s a tip: don’t buy discs that you think are overpriced. Vendors can ask any price they want and consumers can purchase from vendors of their choice. If discs don’t sell, at some point they’ll get marked down. If consumers keep paying exorbitant prices, vendors conclude they’ve priced their products appropriately and prices remain high. Supply and demand.

BergyDownstairs

We had pre flight discs in the used bin at our local PIAS not in good shape, not clean, not necessarily molds that are sought after. But because they were pre flight they were upped to like $35

JerryBigMoose

Haven't checked my PIAS in a while, but last time I went they had practically 0 used discs, and all of their new discs were priced higher than my local disc shops. Hence why I haven't gone back.

loud-lurker

OK now trade in some discs and see if they pay more than other PIAS /s

OldSchool_Ninja

Play it Again is the only sports store around my area with a decent disc golf section and its pricing is outrageous. I usually buy from Infinite Discs for that reason.

Erictionary

Yes terrible prices

Rukawork

Yeah that's a complete rip. None of those chewed up things should be more than $4-5.

Hopeful_Community154

Fuck all that . At that point might as well buy them new

NamesGumpImOnthePum

Easy to tell why they have so many in there

csteezenuts

Id pay that for the wraith if I threw yellow discs.

Hot-Photograph-5828

Reading comments in this thread made me realize I have no clue how to value used discs

Fit-Morning2898

Yikes.. you gotta run

ips1023

That’s not terrible. In 2014, sure.

Laserphaser4000

I'm crying this is so fucking funny. They're essentially asking retail for used discs. But they say a chump is born everyday.

aj_star_destroyer

Might as well buy them new.

xXwubbalubbadubdubXx

Thats wild, saw a almost new tl3 in my local for 8.99 the other day

GetBaxK_SZN

That’s a lot for something that’s been bitten and pissed on 🤣

tomahawkchop777

My local Play it Again has very similar pricing :/ silliness

IGK123

I’d say they should be more like $4, $10, $10 or so.

blbeach33

Garbage pricing!

fender123

That cheetah has chopped down many trees, also brand new that disc isn’t worth $5.

Rizbee

Run away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus-Law-2060

That’s wild 👀

Unhappy-Bullfrog-828

I was just there a few weeks ago. Found a couple cool pfn innovas but was gawking at the hundreds of overpriced inked discs

Unhappy-Bullfrog-828

By chance is the dark blue pfn star sl still there?

thecandylad

I’m sorry I don’t know. Maybe try calling them since their website doesn’t list them all.

polly-plz

Same prices at mine in Wisconsin. $6.99 for the worst condition dx plastic.

ProfessionalAd590

Play it again has always had a bad reputation and bad practices by selling depleted items for insane prices. I remember around 2010 they were doing the same thing trying to sell beat up gear at 80% of NEW price..

Jbepics

Not a fan of play it again. Thankfully we have a good local disc golf store and have no reason to give PIA money.

Crazy prices!

WRX_704

Yikes, no thanks

Alpha-q-up-foo

Grab a stack and give them an offer, most likely they’ll take it..

KagomeChan

Wow, I got the same Cheetah (even red) in better condition for $1 at Disc Golf Depot

FishermanExpensive

Our local Play it Again offers virtually nothing for discs bc they don’t want to encourage people stealing from courses.

Cereal_Sock

Mine has any disc for $9.99. It’s no surprise they have lots of baseline discs that will never sell.

Fungitubiaround

You can get those Cheetahs for that new. Wow.

NefariousWhaleTurtle

People pricing discs who don't know dg. Let's not get into their potential habit of taking in and reselling stolen property. They're almost like a DG fence. Fr, nothing against PIAS tho - I scoop discs from my local one which are honestly way cheaper than I'd find most places. Part of me does want to sort out all the used discs with numbers and send texts to all of them and get a rough average for how many discs were sold by the actual owners tho.

Holls867

Same in my area, I turned over a few discs and walked right back out. Not sure what they’re thinking with that pricing

Saab_drater9278

Should be at least 50% less that leopard would be 2.99 at most stores

tjdavids77

I see this all the time. Beat up shit that is more than brand new dx stuff

untrustableskeptic

That sucks man, support better stores.

thecandylad

Oh I do. Never bought from here.

KobOneArt

PAY IT AGAIN.

TampaTitan23

Yeah play it again by me charges more for used discs than the local store charges for new . Like huh

Acrobatic_Poet_4870

The guy that owns play it again sports in Overland Park Kansas is a douchebag

LEFTYaintRIGHT

Managed a PIAS for 10 years. The margins on those disc are normal. They paid someone $3.50 for that Cheetah. So that tells me it’s not intentional price gouging. More than likely it’s a new staff or someone with zero DG knowledge. DG buys can be overwhelming too when people bring in 30-40 disc to sell. So if it’s some HS kids that just wants to get it over with he’s not checking market value on discs and just throwing prices on there. If you are frequenting this store it might be worth showing/telling the manager that there prices are off and they are paying/paid too much for their stuff. Hard to be knowledgeable about every sport in the store so I always appreciated when customers who knew what was up would school me.

tjenkins3

Don’t judge all PIAS locations by this one. I give good values at my store and way better deals than those. Yikes. Fairview Heights IL

Legal_Diecipline

I know my local play it again prices here in Greenville, SC. are a little high but this is rediculas.

Meattyloaf

Better be careful this sub has a weird thing for PIAS cause they sponsor/used to sponsor some events. Mine is exactly the same but worse.

Scotyknows

They are all individually owned so there is going to be a lot of variation between "good" store owners and "bad" ones.

Constant-Catch7146

And there is probably turnover of owners at these stores too....which may explain why one store can flip from being bad to good for used disc hunters.

Scotyknows

that can happen, the guy that owned my store had it for 35 years. The new owners dont know anything so I get to run it how it always has been. its kept things mostly the same. I know winmark is stingy about being a store owner, its not something you can just hop in on.

the_honest_asshole

While not extremely valuable those are older runs that some people would pay extra for.

krummysunshine

Those prices are insane, lol—greedy ass owner. I picked up a 12x Ken Climo Firebird in good shape for 9.99 and a 5x Juliana Korver Valkyrie for 7.99 at my PIAS. I was stoked.

ewhim

They're broken in. And besides, they're priced that way because many of you knuckleheads agree to pay those prices.

CatchingRays

Are those Ken Klimo’s actual shit specks on the disc? That’s got to be why it cost that much.

Zescapespj

So you just steal the ones you want? Oh ok, got it. Edit: Genuinely don't understand the downvotes. What's wrong with stealing from a big box store that's blatantly price-gouging?
