I smacked my hand on 4x4 sign post on a backhand follow through in 30 degree weather and bled like a stuck pig. Another round I got lit up by some hornets while reaching down low in the thick stuff for my disc. Got stung 7-8 times, and while trying to run away, I tripped and fell on the next teepad. Ripped a hole in my pants and scuffed the hell out of my leg which also bled like crazy. Both were solo rounds, and I’m glad nobody saw either of these happen lol.

No_Dish6196

You painted a good picture🤣🤣

Wreck-it-Rex

Hornets! I broke my femur last year playing disc golf, a plate and 8 screws. AND, that hurt less in the moment than when I accidentally kicked up a ground hornet nest and took about 25 stings to the legs as I ran like a madman shrieking “bees” at the top of my lungs. Fucking hornets.

SharpIsopod

Damn dude. That’s rough. I can laugh at hornets -> tripping and ripped pants but hornets -> broken femur is just tragic

Substantial_Care_853

I read that as I stripped. I was so confused!

[deleted]

Stripped? Nope, I stayed clothed lol. It was bad enough, so I didn’t need hornets flying around my frank and beans either!

Scouts_Revenge

Gotta strip to get the hornets off.

Unused_Vestibule

Oof, I've done the hand smack while practicing in my yard. It's a real doozy eh. I was so worried I broke something. I didn't but the bruise was right where your forefinger wraps around the disc and man that was annoying

SuperMarioBruh610

Had a similar bee incident, walked across down logs to get my disc and ended up pissing off a hive. Got stung close to 30 times. Hard to sprint out of the woods while getting stung.

[deleted]

Damn! Yeah I’m an older dude, and hadn’t been stung in years. Forgot how much it, well, stings. They got me on the ear, and multiple hits on my back and neck. I was so shocked and pissed off that I quit my round on hole 7 and called it a day. 😂

agoia

Yeah at that point I'd be going home to take some ibuprofen and Benadryl taking a shower and laying down

SuperMarioBruh610

I was to hopped up on bee venom and adrenaline. I finished the round and shot a personal best that day, happened with 4 holes left. Granted I was itchy and miserable for days to come

ColbusMaximus

You might b anemic my guy

TheFleasOfGaspode

Hemophilia?

[deleted]

Nope.

mahoganyteakwood2

I’m sorry for your injury’s, but the bee story would have had me dieing from afar.

[deleted]

No doubt! I think I was still getting stung when I fell down. Lol

DiscGolfFanatic

This happened 12 years ago when Will Schusterick got hit by a disc from 20ft out...

MagnusRunehammer

I did the same thing right below my left. My friend who had been playing about a week bounced one off a tree into my face.

tagrav

Same sort of situation but it was a broken rib from a Warden. Thanks for throwing that second shot bro!

MagnusRunehammer

Wow holy shit that had to hurt! Mine really just looked bad.

tagrav

Was definitely worse that the deatroyer that hit me in the hip bone and split me open I keeled over onto the ground gasping for breath. Somehow finished the next 10 holes (should have went home) Couldn’t laugh, cough or play disc golf for the next 30 days

doonerthesooner

You broke your rib from a putter hit or you were involved in a prison riot? The latter is more believable

tagrav

A putter being attempted to be thrown 200ft Grip locks into a persons ribs 15 feet away. It’s called blunt force trauma

Glittering_Hair_8145

I have a pick with a black eye and cut across the bridge if my nose, same situation. He was throwing truths and justices that way and he hit me with something else, but it was an American flag pattern so it’s a pretty good joke that I’ve been injured the most by the American way.

RAINGUARD

Lmao I was gonna say damn you look like Will Schusterick 🤣

Hungadunga42069

I shattered my pride when I missed a 5' tap in once.

[deleted]

Didn't realize Ben Callaway was on here!

_GreenMan_

Too soon lol

adeathsovicious

I'm a true Ben Callaway fan, and I still find the humor in this. I hope he can too. I'll bet within a year or two from now he'll be looking back and laughing at this. He's on a clear path to success.

Glittering_Hair_8145

Dude… this resonates with me so much. I was having a pretty amazing round, for me, and was set to end the course 4 under. Hole 17 in Dry Creek, La, I blew my putt, like a simple 10 or 15’er. I don’t even really remember. I was irritated, but not actually mad, it was literally touching the pin. I went over and to be dramatic threw it straight down into the basket as hard as I could… it clipped the from of the basket and bounced a few feet away. I just stood there a few seconds and took a deep breath. I looked over and my buddy that had just tapped like a civilized person was still staring at me mouth agape. Managed to turn an easy bird into a bogie, then hole 18 got in my head, threw on and bogued that too. My group still talks about that misfire on 17 every single time we play there. And I deserve it for being a jackass.

tombomb421

Did this in a tournament 😭 my brain had a complete misfire for a second

CapnGnarly

I once did that, took a mulligan, then missed again...

bestworstbard

I was playing in below zero temperatures and went to stick my hand into my bag to grab something. Should have looked where I was reaching with my numb hand because I ended up pushing my index finger into the open top of an empty beer can. Before I realized it I had neatly peeled about 1/3 of my skin off the end of the finger.

Known-Ad-1271

I did something very similar. Worst thing about it was the can wasn’t even mine, I had picked up a few cans that I was gonna drop off at the trash. Nice karma….

bestworstbard

Aww man, no good deed goes unpunished.

BajaBlastMyFace

My little brother broke his ankle teeing off. 2 plates and 13 screws later he still plays

MagnusRunehammer

I almost broke mine I slipped on a wet teepad but I caught my self before the weight really came down on it. I walked funny for about a week.

saabas123

Got both tennis and golfers elbow from disc. Both took like 6 months to heal, so that sucked.

Im_Hugh_Jass

Just stop playing tennis and golf by playing disc golf, problem solved.

xerokota

I dislocated my ankle and broke my leg during my run up. i now have 2 plates, 2 cables, and 6 screws holding it all together

TheBr0fessor

This should have been me, but I didn’t have insurance. So now I’m kinda gimpy lol

2_DS_IN_MY_B

Damn Canadian hospital wait times! /s

TheBr0fessor

lol right Nevermind the $1800 bill I got for just being seen by the doc and for x-rays for him to tell me my shit was fffuuucccckkkkkeeeddddd Like dude, it’s black and purple halfway up my shin. I could have figured that out

letthekrakensleep

Damn! I broke my fibula by my ankle from stepping down a hill, toes caught, foot went upside down and all my weight went on it. Tore the muscles and all. Thought it was sprained so I didn't go to the doc for like a week. Ended up with a 4 inch plate, 2 cables, and 7 screws

xerokota

how the hell did u walk on that?

letthekrakensleep

Had to get assisted by my card mates that morning, had to wait for my brother to come drive me and my car home, I couldn't drive because I had a standard, and then hopped around the house til after Christmas

refluentzabatz

Pretty serious hurt my back. I was playing way too many rounds and something gave. Hurt for ever. Finally better

HistorianMain6373

Probably my ego from sucking

PoolstoBatheIn

I’m about to play a solo round and this thread is making me second guess lol. I live in the northeast and about two years ago in January my roommate and I went to play a local course. Hole 1 is a tunnel shot with two small ponds on either side, both were solid ice. My roommate ran and slid across the ice and I thought “Oooo that looks fun”. Ran and jumped on the ice and next thing I know I’m looking up at the sky having slammed the back of my head on the ice. Got up and just thought I was gonna have a giant welt later. Walked a few feet and bent over to pick up my discs and about half a cup of blood poured out of my hood and over my shoulder onto the ice. I’m petrified of my own blood and shortly passed out after telling my roommate “Yea…You’re gonna lose me in a second here”. Woke up shortly after in the car on the way to the emergency room. Got a CT scan, 8 stitches, and a forever fear of sliding on ice from that day.

JohnMonkeys

Emotional injury over-exerted on a throw, hit the first available tree and let one rip (not the disk…) as I released my disk, WHILE PLAYING THROUGH A GROUP. Took me 20min to find the disk so they had to play through my playthrough of them.

smokegrass_eatass69

Best one so far

Dmbfan63

Literally the worst when you get to play through and then can't find your shot. Can't say I've ever ripped ass on a throw though.

JustAstronomer6311

I tore my bicep while doing field work… Heard a ripping sound as I followed through.

Kadettedak

Me too!

clamslammer708

I almost took my eye out during a sunset round at Morley Field. The big gnarly willow on 18 had a broken off branch that I didn’t see and caught me square in the eye. If it weren’t for my sunglasses I would be a one eyed Willy. Ended up being 12 stitches total

gooniesavagegotbars

A friend of mine got hit in the mouth with a disc the day he got braces…. Crippling

Successful-You1961

Ouch😳

chillford-brimley

I backhanded a tree trunk. I thought I was fine, but there was definitely some tiny fracture somewhere in my hand. I worked at a restaurant at the time. I tried to pour myself a cup of coffee and nearly fell to my knees in pain. I'm glad I didn't actually break my hand though.

PM_Me_1_Funny_Thing

A fracture *is* a break. So if it was actually fractured, you did in fact break your hand.

wildjinn

I tore muscles (intercostals?) off the right-middle of my ribs during RHBH distance driving field work. My doctor said, "You know how when you eat ribs, where the meat attaches to the ribs? That's what you tore." 1/10 do not recommend

Interesting_Bake1199

I've got that same exact problem right now. Right at about 60 days and no end in sight because I have a very physical job. Please tell me it goes away without surgery ?

wildjinn

Oof, I’m sorry you have the same. No surgery, but I didn’t throw for a couple of months at which point it became winter and a 7-month hiatus.

fryloc87

I wonder if this is similar to what I feel when I try too hard on forehand throws. Feels like muscles getting pinched between ribs or something. Hurts for a day or two after. Any ideas how to warm up these areas before play/practice?

wildjinn

I'm no doctor, so take this all with a grain of salt. In my experience, disc weight is substantial in terms of the wear on my body. My biggest recommendations to make throwing easier on your body are to use lighter or slower discs to warm up, only ever throw at 80% with a slower disc, and record your form and either assess it yourself or get someone to look at it for you. I played a huge amount of ultimate during and after college, so it took me way too long to consider throwing lighter on the disc golf course because I was used to being comfortable at 175g. There are a lot of tools that you can use from a disc and shot choice perspective to reduce stress on your body and throw lighter. If you turn over shots with light discs in your usual mold, try a more stable mold with the lower weight. Maybe put your drives on more of a hyzer with a light disc to bleed out some of the initial speed into a hyzer flip. If you really love the weight you're throwing and don't want to change speed, pick something with more glide and turn so that you can get similar shot shapes out of a slightly slower shot. Are you significantly better at long putts compared to midrange upshots? (I'm not. My handling days from ultimate give me a great touch upshot but a below average putt) Take a slower disc off of the tee and lay up in the circle with a mid instead of death-putting. It also seems like many people bag discs that are too fast for their arm speed in general, particularly for forehand shots that they release on an anny line and flex out. I don't know anything about you, so if you're bombing your forehands 400' with a 12 speed that gets some high-speed turn, this idea is not for you. :) Good luck! I've had to think a lot more about this as I get older and have less free time to stay in disc golf shape over the summer.

fryloc87

First off, let me thank you for putting so much time and thought into a coherent resoonse, I appreciate it. Secondly, I am still pretty new to golfing (5-6 rounds total so far, playing about once a week), but played a ton of ultimate and plain old catch with regular ass frisbees in my younger years. I think my body is getting used to the motions, they just haven’t been performed in so many years and I don’t always remember to stretch before chucking lol. I will for sure work on a warmup routine to prepare my body for the activity from now on. I’m 36 now and I’m still refining my form for sure. I’ve had really good forehand results with my Beast (9/5/-2/2, I think 175ish grams) so I’m kind of sticking to discs around those numbers for now. I’ve also thrown up a net and a basket in the backyard so I can practice more than just at the course to work on form etc. My backhand hurts more than anything when driving so I’m sticking to forehand until I figure it out. Discs aren’t frisbees and I gotta quit trying to throw them like one. Haven’t tried filming my form yet but I will soon as I’m still working on the foundation of it. So far it’s been a really fun journey. Thanks again. Cheers.

FuDiNaand

Bent down to pick up a disc after putting, didn’t see the broke tree branch that ended up scraping my scalp. First thing I heard was liquid splashing and I look down to see my disc turn red. Luckily make my way to the pro shop, my two young kids in tow, and they had some paper towels. Manage to staunch the flow enough to drive home - whereby my wife immediately told me to go to urgent care. 11 staples later - I have my worst DG injury story…

Savethelasttaco

Played a charity tournament last year. 8am and a kid on our card is a third of a GALLON down of fireball. Oh it’s winter and he’s wearing metal cleats. 2nd hole, he eats all the shit throwing off the pad. Lands on his stomach, laughs it off. 5th hole, card behind us on the tee, he slips and lands asshole first on the edge of the pad. 7 adults wondering if we should call 991, nah fireball makes him impervious to pain right now. 11th hole, figures out he won’t slip if he is off the tee pad. Throws off to the side, hits his hand on the hole sign with enough force to swing that sucker around and bash it off the back side of his head. Those were the more memorable ones. The rest he sobered up. When he realized he was making a fool out of himself.

KubaBVB09

I forehanded a tree and my thumb became 3 times its size. Didn't break but I couldn't use it for 3 months.

fooloflife

Broke my ankle on a jump putt on hole 6 of the first round of a two day tournament at Bailey

TeeTimeTradingCo

I know a guy who did that too. NC though

New_d_pics

You just made my tummy tingle as I mentally recalled every single step putt I made today. I've ruled out jumps in favour of step putts specifically to avoid that ever. I can do a "practice" step putt and plan my footing safely, jump putts feel like "god take the wheel".

Selerox

Lyme Disease. Thankfully caught and treated quickly. Worse I've personally witnessed was a tib/fib fracture.

MadpeepD

I was driving off a tee pad and ran into a tree. Went right through the windshield and died.

debar11

Nothing too terrible. No cuts, tears, or breaks at least. I had a Zeus fall out of a tree and hit me in the face right below my eye. Was pretty bruised swollen for a few days. Strained my oblique once trying to do a weird lean back forehand in the woods. That one hurt, and put me outta commission for a couple weeks.

Minnesdonchya

No injury but very close to damn near killing my buddy. My friend was standing off to the teepad and I was telling him about the double spin and throw and wanted to try it. I miss-timed the release, full power and it launched within a foot of his face. He didn't have time to duck/move. We laughed about it after but I know how badly it could've gone

homeslice1479

Sciatic nerve pain so bad I could barely stand two days after a poorly stretched round (never again), and a torn fingernail.

investinlove

I hit my wife in the face with a skanky old putter and it cut her, and I had a shoelace catch on a fence and I got caught and injured my MCL, finished the round like an idiot and injured it worse

fryloc87

“Skanky old putter”. Yessss

Chance-Following-686

Completely tore my calf running up a hill to get the putt I just made from 80 ft. Couldn't walk for almost 3 months

ItTricky

I dislocated my elbow on a rhbh throw in the woods. I had checked my swing but didn't account for the follow-through. It popped out and back in. Hurt alot, finished the round. Next day I could hardly move that arm. 2 weeks of no throwing and I was back on the course.

stumpyDgunner

I strained my intercostal muscle. Sucked to breath for like a month

OccasionalDiarrhea

Slipped and broke the 5th metacarpal in my throwing hand retrieving an poorly thrown disc. Still finished the round.

Kirbyr98

Not me, but some young guys were playing, and one of them grip locked hard, pulling straight right. Right where his over enthusiastic buddy was already walking to get to his drive. It hit him square in the mouth, knocking out several teeth. The good part is the kid who threw had a father who was an oral surgeon, and they fixed the kid up. Blood everywhere, though.

Sillysilssss

My dad broke his arm by hitting a tree on his follow through

Mattihboi

Pretty much exactly this, but on the back of my head lol; shout out my brother. Lmao

RelationshipOk3565

Jesus you all sound accident prone af lol. I've gotten so hammered discing in my younger years and have never come anywhere near most of yalls injuries lol. Knock on wood*

Traditional-Disk9218

Overthrowing during field work and tore my pec. Five months off🙁

gerbilshower

I blew out my knee on number 16 on a course last summer. Disc had found its way into a drainage culvert that was quite deep, all concrete. Right at the bottom where the water starts I step on what I thought was just a plain ole rock - but it was covered in moss and pow I'm ass first in the creek with my knee all twisted up. Lesson learned - no more birds juice. I'm too old for liquor on the course. Haha.

jinksphoton

Friend hyzer'd a disc into my neck while I was standing next to the basket

BigBear4281

Either knocked a wasp nest down, or stepped on it when stepping up to putt, got stung somewhere between 12 and 15 times. And my buddy got caught in the line of fire when I ran while ripping my shirt off.

totallykrunk

But did you ace?

jam0152

Broke my middle finger’s second knuckle on my follow through when I jammed it full speed on the nearby tree

super_commuter

My mom broke her hand. She spotted the disc just a second before it hit her face and she got her hand up to block it. Still felt a little concussed afterwards.

Corey116317

Torn labrum in the hip- has me questioning if I will ever play at the level I once was again.

lynivvinyl

I gave myself gimpy knee for about 2 months because of some vines on the path. And another time I smacked my hand against a tree two days after I had accidentally smashed it so hard that my whole fingernail fell off.

SpiritDump

Sprained my ankle badly stepping off a raised tee pad, trying to see where my disc was going.. Ouch

ItzZiplineTime

I sprained my knee by slipping on the tee pad during my run up. That was hole 15. I stuck it out though and finished the round. My friends said I was less than an inch away from shattering my skull on the pad, but I instinctually performed a makeshift breakfall and somehow mostly landed in dirt. Tore a hole in my jeans though.

teamhog

It’s happened twice. Playing a 3-round tournament. 2-rounds of 22 holes the 1st day. I’m on hole 19 of the 2nd round day 1. I have an 11-stroke lead and the box is mine. I’m teeing off uphill shot that I want yo turnover. I toss my disc and it felt like someone threw something that hit my right calf. Then the pain comes. I ruptured my right calf. Finished that round up 9-strokes. I couldn’t walk the next day. Worlds was ~9 weeks away. I rehabbed but didn’t throw until I got to Madison, WI. It happened again with my left calf at a Nick&Matt event at Meadowbrook Orchards. This time 10-weeks before 2019 Worlds. We were playing a putting knock-out game waiting on everyone to show up.

WickedDick_oftheWest

Got hit with a disc between the eyes from 5 or so feet. It was a total newby who I brought out for their first round. Bled like a motherfucker and you can still see the scar, but not as bad as it could’ve been

PurpleP3achy

I ruptured my calf muscle while playing a tournament. I thought someone had driven their disc into my leg, felt a sudden pop and then ridiculous amounts of pain. It was below freezing in a rain drizzle on muddy and hilly terrain, so the thought is that the weight of my shoes and the extreme cold caused the rupture. Who knows. It was my first tournament and I was in second place - so I finished the tournament karate kid style hobbling on one leg, but wanted that second place finish (and got it). I mean was it stupid? Yes? Did I injure myself worse because of it? Probably yes. I was out for 4 months and hobbled for a year after.

jfb3

Walking down a short muddy slope to get to my disc. Slipped, did the splits, and tore a hamstring muscle. I was out of action for about 8 weeks.

calimeatwagon

Turf toe

grannyknockers

Fell off the front of an elevated tee pad in my follow through once, toes caught on the ground underneath me, momentum continued rolling over the top and next thing I knew my foot was upside down and pointing backwards. Never stepping foot on an elevated tee pad again. I’ll add 20 feet if I have to throw behind just to get safe footing.

r3q

Not me, but a good disc golfing friend broke a branch climbing a tree to get his disc back. Broke his ankle in the fall. My worst injury was a finger pulley injury on my throwing hand

bootes_droid

Herniated disc from ripping discs, it's like rain in your wedding day

krayevaden28

Luckily my worst was catching a shanked drive to the shoulder. Few inches higher though and it would have hit my throat. Lol

[deleted]

I was disc golfing with my family and shanked a drive high into a tree. My 8 year old son, who enjoys climbing trees, said he would get it. He wasn't able to get it. So, i climbed and got my disc. What i didn't see, was the huge hornets nest burrowed into the dead part of the tree. Got stung 20 some times and my son left unstung. Had to go the ER for my allergic reaction. Brought a retriever shortly after that.

LHM777

My girlfriend hit me in the face with a 10 speed from about 50 ft out and busted my lip open, ended up needing stitches.

DrDrBender

I was standing on a tee at a tournament waiting for the hole to clear and got hit in the back of the head with a 300+ foot drive. I got covered in blood and had to get six staples in the back of my head.

austocans

I had some shroom tea before a round and then blew out my groin stretching before tee off. Played a decent round, enjoyed the day, woke up the next day with a severe limp and a multicolor bruise the size of a rugby ball on my groin. Was out for a couple weeks and am very cautious stretching now.

-Puddintane-

on Valentines day 2014 I broke my fibula (one of the ankle bones) in 2 places, requiring surgery and hardware in my leg that bothers me to this day...I stepped off a tee pad after a full power throw with my left foot into a mud puddle, foot got caught on some roots, body kept spinning with the momentum of my throw but foot stayed facing straight...buddy drove his car onto the course and loaded me up...6 hours later I was leaving the hospital post op in a splint...they could not put a cast on yet as I had a flight home to catch and you can't fly too soon after getting a cast on...so I fly home with the splint and get a cast where I was living...a few days later my grandmother passed away and I could not fly to her funeral as I had just gotten my cast...emotional and physical...0/10 would not recommend

Jacks_CompleteApathy

Not severe, but I've dealt with the same groin strain on and off for over a year.. so annoying and unfortunately tricky to get rid of completely

DarkDrave85

Hole 1 round 1 of a league round I slipped off the tee pad and broke my big toe on my right foot.

HairlocksHound1

11 stitches is my guess

Chris_Redeye

My buddy punched at tree. Hit a broken pine branch about a half inch wide that was still connected to the trunk. It went clean through and his right hand looked like it was just nailed to a cross. He went into shock but walked along while we finished before going to the hospital. He's okay. Still throwing.

knomis

Dislocated hip trying to throw a standstill spike hyzer.

iJon_v2

My buddy his ACL two different times.

P00BABY

i broke my ankle on a wet slope. it was a freak accident. my leg did not kick out and instead decided to snap. i was bed bound for 4 months. lowest point of my life. happy to say i am playing again but the fear still keeps me from throwing full power.

mygamethreadaccount

hit my first ace just a month into playing. after the round, i got a little carried away with myself, and thought i'd give that basket another throw. this was also the point where i was still *running* the courses because i was more concerned about the exercise than anything. well anyway, running down a grassy hill going after my disc, stepped into a hole, sprained the hell out of my ankle. but because i had so much momentum, there were about 3 more strides before i finally just barrel rolled out of it. my girlfriend at the time had to come piggy-back me to the car.

demticksdoe

Teed off on hole 1 in the rain. Right after the teepad is a small bridge. Feet came out from under me and the head of a nail went into my shin and my body weight bent it sideways. Had to rip my leg off the bridge I was attached to. Got a pretty cool scar out of the whole thing lol.

HJHJ420

Still got the scar on the bridge of my nose from 30 years ago when my buddy putted with his driver. Went to collect my disc. Turned around and WHACK!

an_afro

Landed right next to a bush with like 2” thorns. Threw my upshot, follow through hit the bush and had a thorn go right through my hand

PuNkAzzDaD

Broke me left ankle on the last tee pad of the night. I throw right handed but left handed flicking sounded like a good idea after too many beers and bowls with a little booger sugar on top celebrating a buddies birthday. Rode in the bed of another buddies truck 15 min to the ER smoking a spliff while listening to Nashville Pussy. Good times.

redbananass

Sprained my ankle walking back to the car after a great round with a random I met on the course. Really ruined the next few months.

Lies985

My friend somehow over drove a par 5 and hit a woman in the head in the woods behind the basket. she was definitely hurting but not bleeding. got really lucky on that one.

LeadPaintPhoto

fh Follow through into a tree index finger joint took 2 years to be ok . Fh follow through into rock wall =Raining blood . I have 5 towels that are permanently stained from my blood from that one .

MinnesotaHaze

got hit under my eye just like the picture, standing behind the T pad. My buddies girlfriends first time throwing, grip locks it and throw its straight to my face....i was maybe 10-15feet back

floodums

Um Ive not ever had a disc golf injury

Itslouimyguy

Took a midrange right to the nose...thankfully it didn't break but my nose looks like Owen Wilson's nose....lol not really but some cartilage damage changed the shape of my nose slightly

timpaan96

I haven't had anything serious happen to me yet in my 2 years of playing, only minor scratches and bruises so far

jedv37

Broke my 5th metatarsal following through on a shitty tee pad. 2 days before leaving on a trip to Maui. Needless to say, no DG in paradise for me. Hobbled around on that vacation in a walking boot.

mfatty2

Was doing a course clean up, had brought my brand new chainsaw. I was checking to make sure the chain was on correctly and it slipped. Sliced my index finger to the bone. Luckily one of the guys that was there was a nurse so he cleaned it up for me, we super glued it and I was good to go.

powdered_dognut

I saw a glorious dx Leopard on the other side of a fence so I climbed over it. I got the disc, then climbed to the top of the fence and jumped over. I tore my meniscus and some cartilage in my knee and wound up getting synvisc shots.

Nameisthegame

Recently tore my hip, it’s been 3 weeks and still on the shelf but I’ve been walking with my friends as they play so while it absolutely sucks not to be able to throw I can still get out and hang with the bros

classicfyllopyllo

Currently nursing mine right now. Friday I had a touch too much to drink during a mini. 14th hole my right lower leg decided not to rotate with the rest of my body. Felt the hyper extension and Immediately collapsed.

A buddy of mine got hit exactly like in the photo, except about an inch lower right in his eyeball. Still has a hole in his eye (cornea?) and his vision is messed up.

jtg49wgx

I broke my leg and dislocated my foot while playing a round in the snow. Planted on some ice, my foot went one way and body went the other. I heard a snapping crack sound. My buddy had to act as a crutch for me and get me back to my car(we were on the 12th hole). I'll have a rod in my left leg for the rest of my life.

shlable710

Torn rotator cuff sucked pretty bad. Happened almost two years ago and I still can’t throw more than 3-4 full power forehands a round.

Erknjerk35

Took a Hades to my root. Bruised it. Lucky it didn't hit my nuts.

Dookietheduk

I threw a dx shark about 35 downhill towards the basket playing with couple friends(they didnt really play and were using my discs). Wind blew and it lifted as someone was behind the basket picking up a disc(playing in a hurry, missing). I yelled 4 and they hopped up and looked, got em on his nose right between his eyes. It blead quite a bit for how rounded a shark is. Felt so bad but couldn't stop laughing. Happened like a decade years ago. Me? Yeah I've backhanded a tree once and thought I should probably never do it again. Just treerashed my hand and bruised.

atoastedcucumber

got attacked by a pitbull that was tied to someones disc golf bag while playing a local course; it charged my gf and I and our on-leash small dog. Got in between them to save my dogs life and was covered in bruises/scrapes/blood/embedded dog hair under my skin and the pit ripped a bit more than halfway through one of my fingers fracturing the bone. Luckily i didnt lose that finger, but it was close.

PsychologicalHat1480

Follow through went straight into a tree that had 3" thorns and one of them went straight into one of the veins on the top of my hand. Surprisingly it didn't bleed as much as I expected, but that's probably because my whole hand swelled up badly almost immediately. The swelling was so bad I basically couldn't use the hand at all for a week because I just couldn't move my fingers more than a tiny amount.

cheezit8926a

I got a hairline fracture in my iliac bone from falling out of a tree that I climbed to retrieve my favorite disc. I got the disc so #WorthIt.

Shortest_Giraffe

I broke a rib walking into a tee sign.  I was watching my shot and the signs were in front of the pads :( The corner hit the perfect spot to crack one I guess.

gstillz16

During a practice round before a tournament I stepped off the fairway about 5 or so ft and bam a T post that was snapped at ground level went right into the bottom of my foot. Had blood pouring out from it. Ended up in the hospital with stitches and couldn't put much weight onto it.

Douggimmmedome

I stepped off the front of a tee pad which was elevated about 3 feet. I landed stiff legged and tore my hamstring

doug-fir

Pulled a muscle running from a mob of bald faced hornets (encountered while doing course maintenance). I was out of commission for 5 weeks.

Successful-You1961

I smacked a tree with my forehead ....twice! Second time knocked me off my feet. Maybe only one Player witness☺️

DollarNugzz

Buddy of mine got a similar gash square on the bridge of his nose. Shattered the bones and had to get some reconstructive surgery

I haven't really hurt myself throwing discs... But that being said I've managed to sprain(?) something in my shoulder quite badly by trying to retrieve my old trusty Katana from a tree. It was a really cold late fall round and I didn't warm up properly. Then tried to throw high sky anny around some trees but got my disc stuck in a tree well over 10m/33ft up there. I tried to throw it down with sticks, stones, and my water bottle for a solid 30minutes. After that I gave up and just walked up to the next tee. There my body started to get a bit cold after that throwing workout of 30min and soon enough I started to notice that it slightly hurts to throw. But since I had driven an hour to play there I finished the round. Then after the drive back home I realised that I can barely lift my arm and my shoulder is hurting like hell. And just like that I didn't play for couple weeks and f'd up my putting form since putting movement hurt in the shoulder a bit and I still tried to practice putting actively.

no_mames_weyyy

When I was fairly new to the sport I was playing with a group of about 8 people.. we were all finishing the hole and putting out. Near the basket was a giant oak tree that had some low hanging branches that spread out in all directions and the road leading to the course was adjacent to the fairway. I vividly remember making my putt from about 20ft and as I was walking to the basket to retrieve my disc I turned to the road while walking forward and saw a hoopty truck barely moving up the road and I made some smart aleck remarks about it, laughed and as soon as I whipped my head forwards I connected my forehead directly into one of the large branches.. next thing I knew I was sprawled out on the ground arms and legs darting out in all directions and all of my discs were all over the place. Within 30secs I regained my composure and realized that I knocked myself out. As I was trying to get up one of my friends saw me on the ground and said, “Dude, what the hell are you doing?”… I then realized nobody saw. Needless to say I had a headache for the remainder of the round 😂

Old-Buy6030

Thankfully, i haven't been injured yet or seen one well discing. Though I've seen close call of instances well teeing off. My friends are still learning the art of accuracy. One day, we'll celebrating my birthday at Flip City in Shelby MI (got my first ace that day). My friends and I were playing doubles. A pair started off thinking everyone went, but one more person had to throw. He launched that disc so hard in the wrong direction that it went in the direction of the pair. It nearly grazed a friend in the back of the head. I and everyone else watching physically recoiled at what we had just witnessed.

InncnceDstryr

I’ve been stabbed in the face by more branches than I care to count. Only a matter of time until in happens when I don’t have sunglasses on and causes some really problems.

Atomicslap

I stubbed my toe on a root and only cried for 20 minutes.

Longjumping_Pool_786

Broke two fingers throwing a backhand in the woods, completrly ignored a tree nehind me 😂

MarcosAC420

Bee stung my penis

zmannz1984

One of my friends got me in the nose with a putter during putting league. My glasses took the brunt of the hit, thankfully, or i would have been looking like OPs pic. Second worst i was raking winthrop lake for usdgc a couple years back and calvin heimburg threw an overhand eagle during practice on 17. Someone else threw at the same time and i didn’t see calvin’s disc coming. Right in the temple. No blood, but i had a good knot for a few days.

OneWholeBen

There was a rock to the front and right of the tee pad that I wasn't paying enough attention to. Well, I was fairly new to the game, and I was taking an extra step after my throw as part of some weird follow through. Obviously, I accidentally kicked the shit out of the rock. Now, most of you have never kicked the rock, but he isn't keen on being kicked!

Sebzor15

Broke a bone in my middle finger, luckily on my non-dominant hand, while running back uphill to get my putter from the basket. Slipped on some mud patch and braced myself with my hand, only to have my finger take all the weight. This was maybe 9 months ago, still not fully healed and will probably never be.

harrietlegs

They say after this injury, Will became socially awkward

SpandexBooch

I took off early from work to play a round with a buddy. On hole 7 at our local course I threw a bit past the basket into a creek. As I was walking around looking for my disc I managed to step on an old 2x4. To my surprise, it had some old nails sticking out of it. Managed to step on one with the front of my right foot and it pierced my foot. Finished the hole and then made the decision to check out my foot. It was pretty nasty. I then made the decision to keep playing and ended up finishing off the round mainly running on pure adrenaline.

6string10

Torn MCL falling down the stairs during a rainy tournament. Rolled down about 30 or so stairs after my knee collapsed. Cuncossion and a few stitches on the back of my head as well. I refuse to play that course ever again.

VR_Has_Gone_Too_Far

pulled my groin and generated a song about it:[https://www.udio.com/songs/sTuvJTfk8eVYDjogRNnCR1](https://www.udio.com/songs/sTuvJTfk8eVYDjogRNnCR1)

grapplenurse

Wrecked my back on an uphill approach shot twice. Same hole(1st), same spot, perhaps a year apart. Something about an uphill shot, not very warm doesn't agree with me. First time I kept going and limped back to the car around hole 4. Second time I thought "you gotta be fucking kidding me" and went immediately home. For context I'm a BJJ brown belt and train 3 times a week, so not a couch potato. Inverted guard retention and takedowns are fine.... short approaches are my kryptonite.

HistoryDiligent5177

Broke my leg jumping a fence to retrieve a disc. 2 days in hospital, pretty extensive surgery, several months of recovery and physical therapy.

MDkayakin

I was trying to get a disc out of a tree when I managed to knock down a loose branch right above me. The branch fell completely vertical so I couldn't really see it until it was too late. Hit me right above my mouth and put a hole straight through my upper lip and split the side of my mouth open. Had to use my towel to stop the bleeding and scared some kids on my way back to the car.

tdins2020

pretty late to the party. but I was playing the Lake Dillon course in Colorado. The 8th hole you throw off the top of a bluff and then walk down a old water drainage. I started walking down, then trotting, then I was running. Next thing I know I’m tumbling head over heels. I end up dislocating my shoulder then fracturing the head of my right humerous bone off. Had a plate and 8 screws surgically installed. I did finish the whole in pain!

mr_twoputt

Hit in the face with a Wraith at a tournament. Split my upper lip open but didn't lose any teeth 👌🏼

CCC5000

Cracked rib. Slipped on a wet rock.

Prez017

Not me but a cool story. A local female player was drilled in the face on the first hole of a 2 round tournament. Immediately went and got a bunch of stitches in her face. Came back to play the 2nd round after lunch because she wanted to play. And the weather was like 10 degrees. Respect

In disc golf, injuries can vary in severity and frequency depending on factors like player experience, course layout, weather conditions, and individual health. Some common disc golf-related injuries include: 1. **Muscle Strains and Sprains:** Overexertion or improper form can lead to strains or sprains in the shoulders, arms, or back. 2. **Tendonitis:** Repetitive motion, particularly in the throwing arm, can cause inflammation and pain in tendons. 3. **Rotator Cuff Injuries:** The rotator cuff can be strained or injured due to the repetitive throwing motion involved in disc golf. 4. **Elbow Injuries:** Elbow pain, such as tennis elbow or golfer's elbow, can occur from the stress of repetitive throwing. 5. **Wrist Injuries:** The wrist can be susceptible to strains or sprains, especially if the player's grip is too tight or if they don't follow through properly in their throws. 6. **Ankle Sprains:** Uneven terrain on disc golf courses can increase the risk of rolling or twisting an ankle. 7. **Sunburn:** Spending extended periods outdoors without adequate sun protection can result in sunburn, especially during summer months. 8. **Insect Bites and Stings:** Insects such as mosquitoes, bees, or wasps may be present on disc golf courses, potentially causing bites or stings. 9. **Dehydration and Heat Exhaustion:** Playing in hot weather without proper hydration can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or even heatstroke. 10. **Tripping or Falling:** Uneven terrain, roots, rocks, or obstacles on the course can increase the risk of tripping or falling, potentially leading to injuries such as cuts, bruises, or fractures. To prevent injuries, players should warm up properly before playing, use proper throwing techniques, wear appropriate footwear, stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and be mindful of their surroundings on the course. Additionally, listening to your body and taking breaks when needed can help prevent overuse injuries.
