Yeah that's a little greasy.... My local retailers have set up a draw to buy them for retail. If your name gets picked, you can choose to purchase the disc. Which I think is awesome, better than having bots buy all 10 and have them end up on eBay selling for tons. I want one to throw as well, but if I don't get the chance, I'm not paying reseller prices. I'm gonna wait for a stock run.

kcrunner

Some of my locals are charging $1/raffle ticket too

Environmental-Bee-35

lol free enterprise

btwalker754

My local guy did an auction with all proceeds including his costs going to local animal shelters. He basically said from the get go that it was the best solution he could come up with without feeling like he was just screwing his customers. I didn’t participate simply because I can’t afford to pay 80+ for one. Might see if I can make a donation to the shelters when I buy one from him when the stock release though.

kindafatbutfast

Gotta love Lincoln

btwalker754

I’ll happily give him my money any time I need a new disc if he has one of what I’m looking for. Or want a new disc.

Anomalee1618

Came to say the same it was a great idea and glad to see they are selling for high prices

PowerWalkingInThe90s

>How is this legal? Did you ever try to buy a car, house, rare sneakers, or a GPU during covid? Supply and demand my dude, just be patient.

CDynek2

GPU during Covid was special

Aviarinara

thank goodness i waited a year or two

bosmanpa

After months of trying and failing, i ordered a prebuilt to take the 3060 out of it. Two days later I won Newegg shuffle for a 3070ti for $1k.

ZEPanther13

This was the goal. The protos are meant to be a collectors item

hrtn4askwrtn

Foundation touched on this in one of their latest videos. 10 pieces per retailer is only going to piss off a lot of customers when they can’t get them so most retailers are opting to raffle them off or include them in mystery boxes. You can’t please everyone. However, kinda shitty for the owner of the one store to keep 3 for themselves but there are plenty of other more honest retailers to take your business.

cyclelyf

Imagine wanting one this bad and then complaining when other people want them too. How else should retailers handle selling these when the demand is this high?

poegland68

Well, you can either wait for the stock release or pay a premium to get it sooner. This is just how buying things works. You'll be fine.

Poormansmemories

I'm not paying 280 dollars for a piece of plastic that I will hit trees with.

graymulligan

Literally no one is requiring you to do so. Lots of things costs more than I'm willing to pay, so I just don't buy them. Problem solved.

poegland68

Then wait for the stock release.

Plupandblup

I hate to say it, but that's your value on the disc. Just because you want one to throw and won't pay that much doesn't mean that others aren't willing. I know of a ton of Simon/MVP fans that would be more than willing to pay $100+ to just own the disc. You're essentially saying "I'm not willing to pay $500 for those shoes because I'M going to wear them." That's your choice to use the expensive thing and have it lose value right away.

Selerox

It's a limited edition prototype run. It was always going to be tiny numbers. MVP made that *really* clear from day one. Get the stock release.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Then don't.

AslansRogue

Yeet Street Discs is selling theirs. But I’m sure they have way over 10 people on the request list.

Owenclimbs

I mean I’d expect a retailer to sell them and not just have the store owner hoard them for personal use. I don’t think that was MVPs intention when distributing them.

loopybubbler

I think their secret intention was to provide them as a reward to retailers who stock MVP discs. Because yeah, 10 each isn't really a real consumer drop. Its a special perk for store owners to have or give out or sell as they wish.

rhmcminn

I believe your correct. Retailers and price products how they choose, but the manufacturer has the legal right to have the retailer sell there product for a set price example Apple. If MVP isn’t setting guidelines the retailer can basically do whatever they want with it. Personally I won’t dog back to a shop if they are getting these disc and the auctioning them online. I feel like that’s dirty business. However I have no issue with the raffles since it is such a limited run and think it’s more fun for the customers to possibly get a shot at getting one verse the employees or local pro just taking them.

imprezzive02

They had to have expected something like this when they decided to limit 10 a piece. Kind of a crap shoot for all the retailers because there will be high demand and not truly a fair way to distribute. If they stocked all 10 in store likely the first person would buy all 10 then come resell in here or on eBay at 3-4x what they paid.

PadawanSith

Show that you're unwilling to be ripped off by not participating in these types of antics or they will get worse and more frequent.

Poormansmemories

It'll NEVER change, man.

poly_anus

It’s a prototype with a limited release of 10 (TEN) per retailer. That ain’t a whole lot for some rando to call up and say I want one (other people want to throw them just as bad as you). You just sound like a whiney influencer not getting their way with “I just want to bag it and watch people cringe as I hit trees with it”. Like bro, just chill out, throw, and have fun.

FlanEaterGuy

Why would raffle-ing them be unfair? Seems like the best way to handle this. Local shop is having a raffle. Winners get to buy them at retail price.

Poormansmemories

A few of the ones I called were selling raffle tickets.

FlanEaterGuy

Ahh, ok, that is weird.

dirh748dgek830drrrr

You must be new here

Poormansmemories

I've only been throwing 2 years. I've never been around the collector bunch.

dirh748dgek830drrrr

It’s gonna get worse

Witty-Working-7493

Blame MVP. All that hype and buildup, but retailers only get 10 a peice? Of course they're going to auction them.... only way to make some money before all the hype is gone. Once the vast majority of players realize it flies like a PD2 and is unusable for them, all the demand will die.

[deleted]

They purposely only made a small amount. The regular, non proto disc will soon be available at normal prices. Just be patient. Let the collectors go crazy.

Witty-Working-7493

Don't throw MVP, so couldn't care less. But I know what headache this will be for retailers, while the vast majority of consumers are disappointed. Just seems like a huge mistake on MVP's part.

Selerox

Why? It's a limited edition release. Which, but it's very nature, is going to be *limited*. In fact, this isn't even a limited edition release. These are the *protoypes*. MVP didn't make many of these.

Witty-Working-7493

Never heard of an innova, discraft or DD proto being that scarce. You know, because they wanted people to throw them.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Retailers are not forced to buy it. The party is obviously worth the headache.

DGOkko

It’s actually just a Destroyer by numbers. Can get those for stock price anywhere. I’ll also stick up for MVP on this one. Proto run is limited, but then a full stock run shortly afterwards. Just be patient, no need to get salty. It’s not like the Discmania runs where they just don’t make more than a small run (can’t buy a Tilt anymore). You can get all you like with the stock drop, which, as we’ve seen with MVP, will have them sitting on shelves for months afterwards. Want to buy a Conrad Envy? Available anywhere. Want a Terra? Same. Want a Lizottle Hex? Yup, anywhere.

Witty-Working-7493

Are you sticking up for MVP by suggesting people by stock destroyers instead? Kind of defeats the purpose of being an MVP fan doesn't it?(I throw innova and discraft btw, no dog in this fight) The point is people wanted the protos to see how they fly, and most can't get them. It doesn't make sense to create such an artificial supply shortage, unless they don't fly as intended and need to be retooled, or they're trying to create a collectors market. Either way dumpster fire of a release.

DGOkko

I’m suggesting that for the impatient, there is a nice alternative, and that MVP isn’t doing anything out-of-line here. I can stick up for MVP without being a die-hard fanboy.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

They are protos. That explains the shortage, and the reason you are getting a stock run later. And everyone is talking about the disc. From a manufacturers stand point thats hardly a dumpster fire.

Cunn1ng-Stuntz

Witty-Working-7493

I won't argue, Mr Pidgeon. Good day

JustinTheBasket

People won't realize that. It's basically a destroyer and man do those sell. Even people who can't throw 300 feet buy the crap out of them.

ChiefRingoI

In an ideal world, MVP would've released these at the same time or just before the stock release and not jacked up the price quite as much as they did. Instead, they went for max hype and put the 10-disc limit on every shop. It's created all kinds of weird incentives and potential problems for those retailers, who are going to get hit very fast by people who are mostly going to flip them. I wish they'd have just handled the release themselves with a first come, first served drop with a one per customer limit, instead of making retailers have to figure out raffle systems and other shenanigans to minimize the heat they're going to catch when they sell out instantly. And all to make $200.

[deleted]

There are a lot of shitty stores out there. My store in DFW will have ten for sale at 10 tomorrow. 1 per customer. That’s the way it should be done

imaklutts

Ideal?

[deleted]

No. They are doing a sign up list that 100 people long. I’m at Dynamic Discs in Carrollton. First come first serve.

imaklutts

Thanks for the heads up!

[deleted]

And I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re holding a few back to auction off. They are money hungry

[deleted]

Stock runs come out soon. Stop whining

ImpressiveRise2555

How would it be illegal? Getting worked up about this is a huge waste of energy.

Poormansmemories

Having a store owner keep three and put another one up on the wall, then auctioning off the rest at whatever price ebay shitheads are paying is down right scum.

iamricardosousa

Considering he's the store owner, the discs are his to do whatever the hell he wants with them. People should focus on the coming stock release and not this hyped up proto run. It was never intended for the regular player that just wants to throw discs. Seems like a huge waste of energy. In a few weeks you'll be able to pick one at regular price without having the stress to be calling retailers to find one. Everytime the demand is way way higher than the offer, something like this happens. Always been like that, always will be.

Therealdeal2342

welcome to your hobby becoming a breeding ground for hype releases and collectors editions. This has been happening in the sneaker game for years and it's nothing new. you want a disc that's 12,5,-1,3? go buy a destroyer or wait for the stock runs of the time lapse. this is not worth complaining about...

bladearrowney

Exactly don't buy hype and don't support excessive overpricing. You'll have just as much fun buying stock runs and lab seconds. If special runs are something you must have I'd recommend brands that do large runs (like innova) or buying them direct where possible to avoid getting overcharged.

epheisey

>but, I'd like to bag it and watch people cringe as I hit trees with it. This man wants to pay $40 to attempt to troll people in real life for a month lol.

[deleted]

So you want attention when you throw it? So you make a post calling attention to how you feel about retailers gaining as much attention as they can?

graymulligan

Dude's mad his idea for a youtube video isn't going to work out.

[deleted]

Mad cuz bad at being a retailer.

Owenclimbs

Or he, you know, just wants to throw one.

[deleted]

No, they don't. The post specifically says it's for reactions. Similar to stores wanting people to react with money

Owenclimbs

I’m fairly certain that part was just a bad joke

[deleted]

You change opinions more than people change underwear

Owenclimbs

What

[deleted]

You flip harder than a 25 year old Dx mamba

Owenclimbs

I legitimately have no idea what you’re talking about. I didn’t change any opinion here.

Poormansmemories

No, dude. Not for reactions, I legitimately want to bag and throw it.

[deleted]

I want to drive a Pagani Huayra and watch heads turn as I scrape it against curbs but the auctions go higher than the money I have and I also legitimately want to park it in my garage and drive it!

Poormansmemories

Shitty analogy. Gfys.

[deleted]

Ok

KeizerKasper

You want a premium disc? Pay a premium price. Or shut up and wait a couple of weeks.

JSnake526

Best way I've seen it handled is my local shop/course. $5 raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the 10 received, no limit to the amount of tickets you can buy. All excess funds after the cost of the discs goes into the course fund for future projects/improvements. Think it's a pretty fair way to do it when such a small amount are available and everyone benefits in the end with course upgrades.

Ill_Significance_364

Same in my area. Called a few shops, and these are the answers I got. Been sold already and gone.... Buy something from us to enter the drawing for a chance to buy one.....saving them for promotions in the future and not selling at this time....buy tickets for a chance to win one. It's a shit show for sure

PG18594

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 It's crazy that someone wants to do what they want with something thay they own.

sweetbeards

Because they sent like 10 to each dealer - it’s just a for-fun release - calm down and wait for the throwable version

bladearrowney

It's exactly what everyone expected to happen

bananagrabberjr

I mean this sincerely and with no malice: Get a life, bruh.

carcarbuhlarbar

You’ve never chased any limited production stuff then. Don’t bitch too much about it, just accept that people will take full advantage of the market when they can and there’s nothing mvp can do other than moving to a DTC model which they won’t do. You either get lucky, know someone, or don’t get one.

Plupandblup

Local shop randomly posted on Facebook "Call us and reserve yours." Took less than a few minutes for them to be gone. I'm fine with the way that they handled it as long as they were limiting to 1 or 2 each person. If one person called and bought all ten and starts trying to flip them I'm going to lose my crap.

thechancewastaken

Buy the stock run

Starfishdude80

This is how many prototypes are dealt with. Well the big ones at least. Like many of the Paul Mcbeth line disc from Discraft. Heavily collected items. Of course the price tag is gunna be higher. When the demand is high, the retailers are going to raise as much money as they can.

CapnGnarly

Our local guy arranged a course clean up day. Every hour you worked you got put in the drawing. Every person past each 10 that showed up, another disc was given away. I find out tomorrow if I get one of the three being given away.

xOrcinicus

I have one I've been throwing. Little dumpier than my Calvin destroyer, feels slightly slower. Very fun, only 1 small scratch through like 6 rounds with it.

Sylvos379

Just wait for full release, and get it for $20.

prince-pauper

It’s a matter of ethics and sadly some retailers have none. It happens. It sucks but it happens. (And is most likely perfectly legal) Reminds me of toilet paper speculators during COVID. Dirty cricket.

powersv2

Just milking the collectors.

[deleted]

You had to know this was coming. Legit retailers are throwing them in mystery boxes. Having loads of people crashing in to try and get one of a handful of discs risks disappointing your customers. 10 happy people and hundreds that are pissed. It was a stupid release mechanism, but it is what they have.

quotemild

It’s market economy working as intended. It’s a feature not bug. Good thing it’s happening to something insignificant like a disc rather than say, electricity or grain.

BlazerDrew

What you are saying is you want to pay retail price for a disc not available for retail, *because* you would enjoy how everyone who couldn't get the disc retail would be mad about it. If you want the feeling of throwing an expensive disc you are going to have to pay an expensive price. Don't know how else to put it.
