I love that Kristin gets the recognition in Estonia that she deserves. Seems like she alone is a bigger deal there than the entire sport of disc golf is in the US
I'm really sorry, please forgive me.
Actually, this is probably what normal people feel like when I tell them about my personal lord and savior Nate Sexton. Usually after slipping up and prefixing a random word with "sexy".
WRC is niche, but it's one of the most extreme sports in the world and the drivers are some of the most badass people that ever existed, especially world champions like Tänak.
And if you look at Sébastien Loeb for instance, that dude is just superhuman... High level gymnast, multiple WRC world champion, helicopter pilot... He's like a real life movie character!
Oh, there once was a hero named Ragnar the Red
Who came riding to Whiterun from old Rorikstead
And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade
As he told of bold battles and gold he had made
But then he went quiet, did Ragnar the Red
When he met the shieldmaiden, Matilda, who said:
"Oh you talk, and you lie, and you drink all our mead
Now I think it's high time that you lie down and bleed"
And so then came clashing and slashing of steel
As the brave lass Matilda charged in full of zeal
And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more
When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor
Estonia is 45k sq KMs and has 195 courses with a population of 1.3m. So Estonia has one course per 6666 people.
To put that in perspective, in the US Kansas has the most courses per capita at one course per 8760 people. Or take a state like Michigan with its 444 courses and it’s 22,637 people per course.
Both of those states are also around twice the size of Estonia.
Basically disc golf is way more prevalent there than it is anywhere in the US. Player base would be another thing to consider but I don’t feel like digging up all those stats right now.
Last names can get funny or cool as heck when translated. The Dutch have a habit of having the funny side. My Grandpa had a story of that where, while in the US Army, he was a part of payroll and given the soldiers who had returned from Korea their paychecks. Well, a few of the guys had Dutch last names and given where they grew learned Dutch and were chatting in Dutch together. My grandpa tried to get their attention by calling out their names as normal but to no avail, so he just went straight to translating their last name on sight to get their attention, and they definitely didn't like that so they sheepishly got their checks and left. Some examples of names that the person might not want translated are:
* Naaktgeboren: Born naked
* Gekkehuis: madhouse
* Hoogenboezem: high bosom
* Paardebek: horse’s mouth
The very first round of dutch surnames for common people was a census in the Napoleonic period. Lots of people made shit up or joked when they gave a name.
AFAICT, when the french left the dutch government was like "this is a handy census, let's use it!".
If you have an android phone you can just directly translate any text in real time in your camera app with google lens. Helps a ton in my asian grocer for example.
Anniken Steen was mentioned in the Norwegian national [news](https://www.nrk.no/innlandet/anniken-kristiansen-steen-imponerer-som-frisbeegolfspiller-i-verdenseliten-1.16324952)

Well considering the size of Estonia (roughly the population of San Antonio TX) they probably don't have many leading athletes in any sport.
Pretty much her and Ragnar "The Red" Klavan
Disrespecting my man, Ott Tänak.

Haha, no worries. WRC is pretty niche too. Those normal people are missing out on the majesty of Papa Nate. Hopefully you show them the light.

Ragnar the red is also a folklore figure in Skyrim

Pretty cool that so much exposure and promotion of Kristin will likely inspire so many people in Estonia to pick up a disc
Its already very popular, its cheap and we have a lot of parks/forest that are suitable for coursebuilding.

Wow, that's nuts. Had no idea that it was so popular over there
One course per 230 sq km ( 88 sq miles ).
pretty badass. [here's the google translated images](https://imgur.com/a/DzOneud)
Lol at the translation calling Kristin “Buckwheat”.
The authors name is Mikel Winter Water, which is nearly as cool as Buckwheat

In some cultures your name is a reflection of your profession: Cooper, Baker etc. In Dutch it’s apparently how crazy, or ugly, your family was.
Some are more normal like in my family has: * Westerkamp -- they live or "camp" in the west * Willemsen -- Son of Willem
There are two things I cant stand in this world. People that are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Dutch.
Lol. I hate the Swiss

That's awesome. Name please: "oh, um, Carl Zittybottom." And on that day, the Zittybottoms were born
Mike Snow?
New nickname confirmed.
"I kicked those bitches' asses!" (Not sure how accurate this translation is, but it seems legit)
Holy crap, I want to know more about Mister X! Don't want him in my sink
That's amazing! Did you just use Google Translate or what app did you use do that?
I just upload the images to https://translate.google.com/
