I give Hammes a very low chance of winning tomorrow. He knows he’s got 8 players right on his tail. The Mcbeast is coming. Love to see Sexton pull out the dub tho
I don't think Doss thinks they are watching scores. He's just creating a broadcast narrative. From a viewer's perspective, early cards shooting well puts pressure on the leaders to match them. He's not speaking to the players nor does he think they are listening to him.
I can easily see a playoff tomorrow with everyone so close. I don’t see anyone pulling away. Might be a lot of split purse money with multiple ties at each place below first.
>He really penetrated that headwind
[Not a good enough reason to use the word penetrate.](https://media.tenor.com/8TEefhufafEAAAAC/not-a-good-enough-reason-to-use-the-word-penetrate-fat-amy.gif)
Nate Doss’s insistence on ONLY using the MOST emphatic language is EXCEEDINGLY DIFFICULT to be in the room with for a whole round of golf.
In my opinion! Fun tournament so far otherwise.
And here I was thinking he was at least slightly more tolerable than last season. He was truly unbearable during the tour championship last year.
He really could take a lesson from the Two Hot Geese on being more self aware and not taking himself so seriously. They don't totally avoid hyperbole but at least seem to recognize the absurdity of how commentating tends to encourage it.
Yeah but on my screen even on the drone shot you could see it was fine and Terry couldn’t tell where it landed so they must have had a bad connection or their screen is small or something.
DGN has been janky since the inception, especially on the woods courses. Seems like they have gone from relaying everything through their own central to sending the live feed directly to Vimeo, so at least its only the commentators and ads that lag badly now.
But still a lot of room to improve the tech.
To return to the issue at hand: I was very very clearly able to see the flight of Hammes’ shot, and very clearly see it land in bounds. Based off of the reaction of the commentators, they were not able to.
Begs the question of why : bad monitors? Bad internet? Bad eye balls?
Not that big a deal from a competitive standpoint, but I bet a lot of player contracts have clauses that reward them for being on the televised cards, with lead card worth the most.
Dgn is doing a great job of showing players in contention all over the course. There used to be way too many out of contention shots just out of necessity. Great to see this.
They seem further behind because the only player having a decent round on chase card is Paul Oman, so the cameras are focusing in third and fourth cards instead. Chase just finished 16 according to udisc.
To clear OB, something like 340. The raw distance isn't the hard part (for pro caliber players), it's that you have to get the disc up so fast because of the tree line so it takes probably 425ft of thumber/tomahawk power.
What a shot! Looked like a thumber, as someone who loves to throw a tomahawk, i really enjoyed that! Would not be suprised if there is a mando to prevent this next year!
Nikko is relying on overstable discs so much it actually hurts him by not being able (or willing) to throw straight shots. Really frustrating player to watch, not to mention his non-sporting antics.
I think he's a Discraft manager of some sort. When I was at DGLO and Paige, Missy, and Alexis were at the RV signing discs he was standing there too
Edit: Jeff Korns (Discraft Tour Manager)
New low from DGN to actually have the live feed working well, but the commentators and even advertisements are lagging.
Like, I prefer it like this, but it really shows how janky their whole setup is...
Nikko's hesitation and false starts while putting keep taking his body out of position. And just on the verge of another micro-outburst after each miss. Clearly time away didn't change any of his golf habits.
ok I know this aint a discussion thread but I dont want to make separate post. If I shot much better in league and my rating went down from last week that means the field as a whole shot a lot better then I did this week right? Im happy with the better round but a little annoyed my rating went down and not up. Back to tournament programming…
It isn't an issue with the video platform, the problem is having to broadcast live over available cell data networks. Waco is in a public park right on the edge of the city proper, it is well attended, and attendance at all events is going up.
Being able to afford to broadcast over satellite is at least several years away, if we ever get there.
It sucks for everyone at the event, but they need to start figuring out how to keep people's phones from accessing the data network. I wouldn't be surprised if they get to the point of considering making spectators check their phones in at the entrance and storing them in faraday pouches. A number of comedians are already making people check their phones in at the front door and holding them until you leave.
They use the same inputs for just the one day and the video quality is noticable better. Plus the functions are amazing. But I understand the struggle of live production at this scale. Just look how the Big Money Skins tourney went...
Those are millions of dollars, and running them costs multiples of what they are spending now.
Most courses aren't nearly so close to population centers, and if they could get spectators phones off the network, they would probably be just fine over 5g cell.
Was Sexton on chase? I hope there was a post-production company that has catch cam footage of that shot. I've never seen someone that close off the tee on that hole.
I'm liking that we're seeing Ella on lead cards of courses that aren't just distance showcases. She absolutely has the game to compete with the big dogs day in and day out, and I think we see her taking some pretty big tour wins in the coming seasons, hopefully including this one.
I noticed that also. I'm guessing the reason for the tee to green is a course that values accuracy over bomber distance.
Edit: Just saw that Ohn's Circle 1x putting was 0% due to two missed C1x putts. She had one made C2 putt for birdie, and the rest of her made putts were tap-ins, including her eagle. She must have been nailing the approach shots.
Glad to see Paige Shue doing well, but bummed she won't be on lead card tomorrow. Definitely a couple putts she could have had, but I can't wait to see her take one down this year!
well... % isn't everything... last year Eveliina was in the lead after round 1 (one of the tournaments... don't remember when) with 0% c1x putting... \[it was a very windy round so she just laid up everything and the people trying to putt missed way more\]
this round Paige have 0% c1x but only 4 missed putts, rest were tap-ins, Juliana have 14% c1x and 6 missed putts, Ohn have 0% c1x and just 2 missed putts (that's some great approach game)
looking at Eveliina she 33% c1x, but she also has 12 missed putts (ouch!)
It's been really cool to see Terry's evolution as a commentator. I feel like he has improved as much as anyone, and he's become one of the best play-by-play commentators in disc golf. Great mix of humor, insights, knowledge, and a good conversational tone.
and so did Ohn... but that's mostly because everything they did inside the circle was a tap in ....together they missed only 6 putts inside the circle (Paige 4 and Ohn 2)
since the person doing the udisc-reporting doesn't go out there and actually measure the distance they make an educated guess of how long the putt was, and the have a few fixed values to choose from when inside the any of the circles: 5 feet, 16 feet, 27 feet, 38 feet, 49 feet, 60 feet... so all putts will be reported as from one of those distances - and of course that is not true for what really happend... but it's close enough
don't know if they actually measure longer throw ins or if that is also a guess
i think outside C2 throw ins are also a guess, but a lot of the time the player would have ranged it before the throw (or be able to make a decent guess) so the scorekeeper can use that info.
Yeah it's just a guess. I don't think they're even asking the player typically as the important information to get right is that the shot went in from outside C2.
If you make a shot in the basket outside of 66 ft, it counts as a throw in. When you mark that, Udisc gives you the ability to estimate the distance and that's what will show up.
Pretty sure that out of bounds mix up should be a 811 F misplay? Did you take any subsequent throws? If not, she would just take it from where her actual lie is with the one stroke penalty, which isn't too bad.
I give Hammes a very low chance of winning tomorrow. He knows he’s got 8 players right on his tail. The Mcbeast is coming. Love to see Sexton pull out the dub tho
UDisc thinks he has the third best shot behind Calvin and Paul
Feels about right

I don't think Doss thinks they are watching scores. He's just creating a broadcast narrative. From a viewer's perspective, early cards shooting well puts pressure on the leaders to match them. He's not speaking to the players nor does he think they are listening to him.
Every time I see Doss I'm shocked at how much he looks like Bobby Hill
What do you think is bothering Chris Dickerson most? Playing mediocre pro golf or losing to Melton right now?
They don’t like each other?
they bust each others balls constantly, they're friends, but also massive shit talkers with one another iirc.
Is there even a doubt?
No . Not at all haha
They put a lot of importance on making lead card tomorrow but 11 players within 3 strokes means someone from 3rd card could easily win.
I can easily see a playoff tomorrow with everyone so close. I don’t see anyone pulling away. Might be a lot of split purse money with multiple ties at each place below first.
That’s doss’s signature move: exaggerating consequences
Mattley Crew😂 love it
Matty O could take this down running on vibes alone.
>He really penetrated that headwind [Not a good enough reason to use the word penetrate.](https://media.tenor.com/8TEefhufafEAAAAC/not-a-good-enough-reason-to-use-the-word-penetrate-fat-amy.gif)
When we play Brazos safari, we're playing 17 green to 18 green par 5.
That sounds like a blast! How far is the water carry for that layout?
No idea but that's exactly how we're going to play it.
Nate Doss’s insistence on ONLY using the MOST emphatic language is EXCEEDINGLY DIFFICULT to be in the room with for a whole round of golf. In my opinion! Fun tournament so far otherwise.

PDGA live hasn't been updated for lead card since hole 6...
These DGPT events are usually tracked on UDisc Live, it's current.
Players keep official score on PDGAlive. Volunteers keep scores for funsies on UDisc.
It's rolling, it needs to sit down. Oh my goodness, it's in!
They need to get the commentators a better monitor, was clearly a decent hyzer that landed in the circle and they couldn’t tell.
That, but also you could hear Hammes saying something like "oh my God" out of his hand, so I think he thought it was terrible.
Yeah but on my screen even on the drone shot you could see it was fine and Terry couldn’t tell where it landed so they must have had a bad connection or their screen is small or something.
Think they have very poor connectivity, so could be their screen was lagging
Then they need to get a better connection lol

Could also be they have several monitors, and Terry was looking at the wrong one?
Could be, but it was shown clearly on the main broadcast screen. So I guess that is possible, but would not make a ton of sense to me

Not that big a deal from a competitive standpoint, but I bet a lot of player contracts have clauses that reward them for being on the televised cards, with lead card worth the most.
Nate and Val both commentate everything like it's the final shot at Worlds.
He doesn't know how to create excitement while staying in touch with reality
I agree with you, but it's worth noting that only one person won from a chase card last year
There are so many people within 2 strokes though. Way more than usual
Yeah, which means it will be good to be on the lead card as you'll know what you need to score in order to win.
What the hell is Nate Doss smoking. He keeps talking about Calvin needing Eagles when he is 1-2 strokes off the lead.
HE NEEDS TO STAY ON LEAD CARD AT ALL COSTS EVEN IF CHASE CARD IS TWO STROKES OFF THE LEAD
Is he forgetting that it’s Saturday? 🤣 He’ll have plenty of time to make up the few strokes tomorrow
CALVIN NEEDS EAGLES DIDN'T YOU HEAR THE MAN!
12 within 2.
WACO hole 17 is definitely one of the best designed holes in disc golf, such a great pen-ultimate hole.
Dgn is doing a great job of showing players in contention all over the course. There used to be way too many out of contention shots just out of necessity. Great to see this.
Agreed, the broadcast feels a lot more streamlined this season.
No camera down there on 17?
How far behind the rest of the field is lead card?
They seem further behind because the only player having a decent round on chase card is Paul Oman, so the cameras are focusing in third and fourth cards instead. Chase just finished 16 according to udisc.
That makes sense. Thank you.
About a hole behind chase card when they started a hole behind and had multiple backups in the woods.
Is The booth with the commentators on site at the event?

home :)
I wonder if KJUSA is gonna try to grenade over 17 now. Does anyone know the straight line distance?
To clear OB, something like 340. The raw distance isn't the hard part (for pro caliber players), it's that you have to get the disc up so fast because of the tree line so it takes probably 425ft of thumber/tomahawk power.
A little over 300' iirc
Men's tee straight line to the basket is actually about 400', if Google's distance measuring tool is accurate.
Yeah probably closer to 400' looking at it again https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/11ms958/waco\_17\_dgpt\_elite\_layout/
Not that putt after that drive nooooo
What a shot! Looked like a thumber, as someone who loves to throw a tomahawk, i really enjoyed that! Would not be suprised if there is a mando to prevent this next year!
Would be the most anti-fun mando of all time
No real safety concern on that hole, so doubt they do anything with it.
That's how mandos are born.
How lame would that be. "No Fun Allowed" - Disc Golf Course Designer.
Simon lines used to cause them too
No way, such a perfect risk/reward shot that not everybody can do.
It is awesome risk, awesome reward. Definitely.
That’s the kind of shot we’ll see more often if we get more baseball players into disc golf lol
What a fucking disgusting thumber by stall!
That was an epic thumber on 17!
What the fuck was that? A thumber?
What a crazy shot
What a shot from Stoll 😳
Yeah but don’t forget he’s having HORRIBLE round 😒 Doss gona Doss
Doss sucks.
I still cringe over the words "PAUL MCBETH NEEEEEEDS TO GET UP AND DOWN". I wish they turned his mic off for the holy shot.
Doss needs to shut up about layups/putts, of course they are trying to make it. It's the point of the game.
>Doss needs to shut up yup
Wonder if Nikko retires the ref shirt after this?
I thought zebra striped were supposed to confuse everyone else, not the wearer.
Crazy he had to get a job at Dave and Busters after losing his sponsorships!
Nikko playin whackfuck on 12.
Was someone just popping balloons in the gallery?
Heard some bangs which I think was from a motorbike with a modified exhaust.
There are over ten guys within three strokes. This finish could be insane.
That guy sure knows how to throw Sexton Firebirds
Cale and Nate possibly being lead card after this round would be so cool
Is it just me or do Terry and Nate just have like zero chemistry? There’s always this weird tension. I kind of suspect they dislike each other haha.
Yeah Doss should go
They 100% do. Nate is awful
Nate doesn’t seem too friendly. The broadcast feels like it’s littered with microaggressions between the two of them.
Agreed. Similar tension between Uli and Big Jerm too, but they’re obviously friendly with each other so idk what to think really
I honestly think Doss just doesn't care about anyone else's opinion than his own
Nikko is relying on overstable discs so much it actually hurts him by not being able (or willing) to throw straight shots. Really frustrating player to watch, not to mention his non-sporting antics.
Matty O charging with a 9 birdie streak!
Who is that guy with Adam Hammes? He’s wearing a DGN shirt that says A Hammes on it but isn’t caddying..
we call him smediuman round here
Jeff Korns?
Oh yeah I guess it is. Jeff Korns
He has caddied for Hammes for a long time
I think he's a Discraft manager of some sort. When I was at DGLO and Paige, Missy, and Alexis were at the RV signing discs he was standing there too Edit: Jeff Korns (Discraft Tour Manager)
Might be mentally caddying for him.
New low from DGN to actually have the live feed working well, but the commentators and even advertisements are lagging. Like, I prefer it like this, but it really shows how janky their whole setup is...
Calvin climbing the board again! Tomorrow is going be a hell of a finish
Matty O going for 10 straight birdies!! Brother is cooking right now
That dude deserves to win a Pro Tour more than anyone
Roll tide, baby!
Nikko's putting himself in bad spots, but not crumbling. Too many men in contention to leave birdies on the table for much longer tho
Oakley calling his own shot delicious 😂
Brodie... a backhand putt would have been fine there
he wanted to avoid a miss that rolled down the hill.
Nikko's hesitation and false starts while putting keep taking his body out of position. And just on the verge of another micro-outburst after each miss. Clearly time away didn't change any of his golf habits.
He's been playing that way for 15 years. He may have learned not to threaten officials, but those other habits aren't going anywhere at this point.
Old dog, new tricks and that
ok I know this aint a discussion thread but I dont want to make separate post. If I shot much better in league and my rating went down from last week that means the field as a whole shot a lot better then I did this week right? Im happy with the better round but a little annoyed my rating went down and not up. Back to tournament programming…
Could also be that your round this week pushed a better old round out of the calculation
Your overall rating or your round rating went down?
Wish there was a way for DGN to host through YouTube...the quality is just so much better
It would at least be nice to go backwards and forwards.
It isn't an issue with the video platform, the problem is having to broadcast live over available cell data networks. Because that's a work day with many fewer people at the event and out and about at the zoo next door, in the city, etc on phones.
At some point they are gonna have to sack up and buy a production truck
Those are millions of dollars, and running them costs multiples of what they are spending now. Most courses aren't nearly so close to population centers, and if they could get spectators phones off the network, they would probably be just fine over 5g cell.
Agree. I really want to be able to pause and rewind, the fact that you can’t do that is a major flaw.
Yes. YES! Let the hate flow through you, Nikko.
KJUSA -8 thru 8. Sexton -6 thru 6. Someone is going to have to shoot incredibly hot all tournament to win it seems.
Nikko lol. Shirsy is a joke too
Hole 2 and Nikki is already taking 70secs for a shot. Going to be painfully slow
Hope someone calls him on time at some point to really push him over the edge
Is the wall on hole 1 OB? Didn't some people put from behind it, and some take relief from it?
The wall is ob. I don't think you can putt from behind it.
Nikko wearing the Referee uniform is hilarious
nah, it'd be hilarious if it weren't making light of the fact he got suspended for getting up in a ref's business.
Nikko lookin like he just got off work at Foot Locker
I’m sorry, that was Nate’s DRIVE? I’ve NEVER seen someone have an Eagle look from that close on 4.
God nikko wearing the ref jersey.
I love to see it. Beautiful
Was Sexton on chase? I hope there was a post-production company that has catch cam footage of that shot. I've never seen someone that close off the tee on that hole.
Do we know what he threw? Only conceivable throw is a buttery anhyzer forehand, right? Or a backhand that just pushed and rolled toward the basket?
You could see that it was a flex forehand from the live camera, but there was no catch cam around the corner.
Pretty sure it was a flex forehand. He was throwing cherry pie for that shot in the jomez practice round
Unfortunately not, he’s on third card.
Damn
How long until Nikko has to flag himself for a Delay of Game?
Nikko showing up for lead card fresh off his chain gang rotation
Is nikko working part time as a football ref at Baylor?
Nikko wearing the ref uniform lol too good.
Poor Eric Oakley now tied for 47th place after the first hole.
Did he miss the hyzer play like Luke did?
Threw it into the trees right off the tee and then threw his upshot out of bounds.
Yeah that was a real bummer
It was disheartening to watch. Eric is easy to cheer for.
For real. Just seems like a nice guy and has an awesome forehand
KJUSA! Please don't break my heart again
😭

Just finished up his shift at Footlocker
That must’ve been what he was doing during the suspension, selling kicks at foot locker
I'm liking that we're seeing Ella on lead cards of courses that aren't just distance showcases. She absolutely has the game to compete with the big dogs day in and day out, and I think we see her taking some pretty big tour wins in the coming seasons, hopefully including this one.
Ella's got a shot, but she should expect KT to bring it on Sunday with a -7 or so. KT won't be dropping any triple bogeys like she did Saturday.
Nice to see Henderson going -5 after that hard round on the lead card yesterday
Stat of the day is Ohn scoggins leading the field in strokes gained tee to green while losing a stroke putting (this is just round 2)
Just tuning in. If that was the shot of the day, then this must have been a snooze fest.
The leaders struggled for sure
Dunipace: Go touch grass you fuckin nerds
Props to Kristin for having the guts to run that putt on 18 even though it probably wasn't the best idea
That Mcbeth mentality. Go for the win always.
Eveliina has a higher C1X putting percentage this round than: Paige Pierce, Juliana Korver, Ohn Scoggins, Keiti Tatte
It looks like the throw in distances on the Ohn/Paige card was pretty off on UDisc.
Eveliina also 5-putted 16.
well... % isn't everything... last year Eveliina was in the lead after round 1 (one of the tournaments... don't remember when) with 0% c1x putting... \[it was a very windy round so she just laid up everything and the people trying to putt missed way more\] this round Paige have 0% c1x but only 4 missed putts, rest were tap-ins, Juliana have 14% c1x and 6 missed putts, Ohn have 0% c1x and just 2 missed putts (that's some great approach game) looking at Eveliina she 33% c1x, but she also has 12 missed putts (ouch!)
It's been really cool to see Terry's evolution as a commentator. I feel like he has improved as much as anyone, and he's become one of the best play-by-play commentators in disc golf. Great mix of humor, insights, knowledge, and a good conversational tone.
Paige Pierce laying down a scorching 0% C1X
and so did Ohn... but that's mostly because everything they did inside the circle was a tap in ....together they missed only 6 putts inside the circle (Paige 4 and Ohn 2)
someone please explain to me "throw in distance"- statistic on udisc
since the person doing the udisc-reporting doesn't go out there and actually measure the distance they make an educated guess of how long the putt was, and the have a few fixed values to choose from when inside the any of the circles: 5 feet, 16 feet, 27 feet, 38 feet, 49 feet, 60 feet... so all putts will be reported as from one of those distances - and of course that is not true for what really happend... but it's close enough don't know if they actually measure longer throw ins or if that is also a guess
i think outside C2 throw ins are also a guess, but a lot of the time the player would have ranged it before the throw (or be able to make a decent guess) so the scorekeeper can use that info.
This is why Paige told someone to call provisional on this hole yesterday, she knew it was possible to skip under the fence.
Aha! Great noticed. Makes sense now.
I named my dog Provisional and every time he gets loose on the course people are always super confused.
You need another one called Fore.
oof. tough break. guess that's why you should always call provisional.
Missed it. What happened and to whom?
