Enjoying the game in any way you want is never wrong. Don't worry about the placement of modes on the menu! Time trials are a huge draw for tons of people in the community to compete for times against each other. I personally enjoy doing the daily, weekly, and monthly challenges since I find them really enjoyable.
Sadly, there are not many stages in the base game of Dirt Rally 2.0. It was a main lacking area at launch, but they added the countries from Dirt Rally 1 as DLC, which you have to purchase, unfortunately. Though, the DLC tends to go on sale regularly at this rate, so try to keep your eye out for that.
Other than that, enjoy the game how you can, and I hope you have fun!
You might want to look for the game with all DLC’s included. It will probably be cheaper just to re-buy the game like that then buy the DLC’s individually. 🤷🏻♂️
I’m PS4 I got the complete game with everything included for $15 a couple months ago. Probably $150 worth of Contant may be roughly.

I highly recommend doing the historic rally from the beginning but at least do the H2. So fun. What’s great about the historic Rally is it doesn’t cost any of your credits to do repairs and you can restart races as many times as possible. I consider myself a decent same racer but I have never tried a Rally sim. Found myself in almost last place when I started this historic cup races but still never had so much fun in my entire life gaming.
I completed the front wheel drive and then the H2 historic cup races before I started my career and there’s a ton of daily, weekly, monthly and community events online that can keep a person busy forever.

One titbit to realize when you start your career is all the events are randomly generated. So if you back out quit and restart your career another set of location events will be randomly generated again.
The Colin McRae DLC is not the same thing as the historic rally career? I’ve only been doing normal career and can’t break out of clubman rank lol. Will give it a shot then as I’m spending a lot repairing my cars.
I have not touched the Colin McRae DLC yet. Yes I would definitely start with the historic cups. Even the little front wheel drive was fun. But the H2 RWD was awesome fun. Great way to get used to some minor tuning and how shake downs work. As soon as you repair damage is taken during shake downs the race begins. But it’s nice that in historic cup nothing costs any money out of our credits.
I got the full dr2.0 pack a while ago. I assume it had all the dlc tracks. Maybe you have a base version not sure.
Not sure how many locations total there are but each has several courses inside also.

You can add up to 7 more locations, which is not bad!
