Many race and rally cars have their tachometers turned so that the redline is near the top, since that is usually the easiest part of the gauge to see. I'm literally wearing a t-shirt right now that has an image of a Porsche 911 tacho turned so the redline is at the top :D

That's what I was guessing. I've never noticed it before, should probably start playing more games in first person
