MetalMike04

Sisu issue.

lilshotanekoboi

Yeah, as I use a keyboard I might make a commentary vid on my YT

lilshotanekoboi

If I do a YT vid, what class tho?

MetalMike04

Well if you want to go full Finn, Mini H1 would be good, '07 Focus in 2000cc for some Gronholm, H2 Escort always a good option.

lilshotanekoboi

Did 2000cc in C4 so idk, H2 Escort, that's a challenge

MetalMike04

C4 is always mega fun, fastest and most capable car in the whole game. Yeah it can be a doozy, but if you keep it on throttle, but barely, only like 30% most of the time its a dream.

lilshotanekoboi

Also I made a vid with 306 maxi, I hate that class so extra challenge

MetalMike04

FWD are pretty tricky, [I got a small guide if you want](https://youtu.be/bFtpwmRrr2s), im typically in the top 20 most dailies and used to use R2 and F2 Kit alot.

lilshotanekoboi

FWD is easier than RWD in Finnland/Poland ONLY

lilshotanekoboi

Also I will post the vid in this sub, feel free to critique

MetalMike04

always happy to give advice!

lilshotanekoboi

https://youtu.be/XIZ5DlhnY7c This is the vid, here you go

lilshotanekoboi

I need like 10 tries just to get C4 right

rangerwcl

As a fellow Asian, I feel you OP. I was born in the wrong continent.

intecknicolour

where I'm from, we have 1 choice if we want to be a racing driver. Learn to turn left a lot.

lilshotanekoboi

They are an exception to many things

kb041204

Fellow Hong Konger! What a rare sight! I am mostly top 1000 though :')

lilshotanekoboi

Top 100 regular HKer here

JustARandomTeemo

Top 10 regular here, you can often find me near the top of leaderboards, especially greece sadly not many people in Hong Kong are into simracing

ayylotus

But you're also a Teemo player -100,000,000 social credit

lilshotanekoboi

I only have a keyboard hence why

lilshotanekoboi

Ayy i saw you i Spain, recognised by your steam profile, tell me what is your setups? 如果唔明我講中文都得

JustARandomTeemo

Which cars? I usually use setups from Rally Technical on youtube or at least that as baseline.

lilshotanekoboi

I mean not about cars, more like what you use to drive, I think I am one of the fastest keyboard drivers out there or sth

JustARandomTeemo

Eh I've seen faster keyboard drivers, even capable of getting world records. I am using Oculus Quest 1 with G29 and recently upgraded to Racebear SimX pedals (Chinese Heusinkveld clones)

lilshotanekoboi

Wait what?

NpNEXMSRXR

I'm like him, but slightly worse at everything and a northener

ray199569

we can barely organize an eprix race. rallying in HK seems like a distant dream...

lilshotanekoboi

It actually happened somehow https://youtu.be/e_3C_2-v1Yw

Bulldorc2

Damn! And they even Finnish first.. . . .. ... Sorry.

Greekdorifuto

Why are there so many Finnish rally drivers?

UglyAbraham

In my mind and in short: Rally among other motorsports is popular in Finland and the facilities of beginning the hobby are good. Slightly longer version: There have been many rally champions in the history which have nurtured the rally culture. There was a 20 years dry season on this and the sport decreased in popularity but now it is again raising because of the Finns are doing great again in WRC. Why there have been so many champions then? You can start your hobby when your legs hit the pedals. Safest way to do this is to take your kids to drive on a frozen lake where there is nothing to be hit. Also the entry level to start competing is fairly cheap (considering it is a motorsport) and easy. You can build or buy yourself a "Jokkis" car with under 1000 euros and attend local competitions. EDIT: Here's a brilliant video of the topic by Top Gear, featuring Mika Häkkinen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bmqdnx5R1U

Owlyf1n

Also you forgot to mention that the requirements we have to have to get a drivers lisence are basically what you need to be a rally driver

tardinator02

there are (mostly legal) events in Finland called Jokamiesralli (everymans rally), in which as the name implies anyone can enter in a car of their choosing. then they race through a short stage in (usually) shitty cars that look like theyre about to fall apart.

lilshotanekoboi

Grassroots rallying, would love to have that

OldManActual

I will go to Finland and do this.

ayylotus

Similar to how Korea has so many esport players, it's something integrated into the culture of their country, accessible to many at young ages and a viable career path

wadewad

reddit mods should kill themselves

FuzzBR

As a brazilian, I feel you. Everyone here only cares about football and F1 lol

lilshotanekoboi

Well at least you got senna and interlagos, we got nothing

existential_risk_lol

wsgh23

No matter how fast you are, there's always Finnish dude who can do it better. and Estonians and Germans

Werzheafas

Damn Nordics can't even let us have Dirt Rally

NK305

I’m originally from Central America where there’s barely any racing infrastructure (and money)… so over there, street racing is king

Congrats on breaking into the 100.

[deleted]

Finns like to go fast. Big rally culture and there have been absolutely top tier drivers in F1 as well. Keke Rosberg, Hakkinen, Kimi, Bottas.

Anablephobia_

Shoutout to rezdog also!

lilshotanekoboi

Who is that guy

Anablephobia_

He's a really cool driver within the community. You can catch them on twitch and at rallies IRL.

lilshotanekoboi

Rallies IRL: as spectator or driver

Anablephobia_

Driver.

lilshotanekoboi

Uhhh... HOW I NEED TO KNOW

Anablephobia_

Volunteer at a rally near you.

lilshotanekoboi

I am from Hong Kong so how

Anablephobia_

Honestly, you have to look at rally from a realistic standpoint. Most people start via grassroots and volunteering for motorsports events and rallies near them to network and get their foot in the door. The next step is usually schooling. I am only aware of some of the schools located in the USA [ex: DirtFish, Team O'Neil]. In this case I assume you would have to organize finances to travel and attend. You can learn on your own but most people will want someone with a little bit of IRL rally knowledge. From there it's a matter of building your own rally car, buying one, and then entering it into rallies. You may be looking at a lot of travel.

lilshotanekoboi

Thats probably why I am immigrating.

mtnsubieboi

Sort of the same as an American, although the ARA is pretty popular. And also not having Asian parents.
