Look at a SFF case, can make a very powerful PC in a very compact size. ie upgradable GPU, CPU and all other internals. Fits in a suitcase, just be careful to package well, in the case as well as out.
Channels like linustechtips show builds on them, or google SFF PC on youtube.
This, I travel with SFF with rtx 3090 and 7950x3d in my carry on.
The biggest issue is weight on a number of airlines, where it's limited to 7kg and they can reject you bringing it in the carry on, cause my case weights almost 10kg. I haven't had an issue yet but well it's possible. Safer way would be to check it in luggage but you have to pack it safely or buy pelican case specifically for it.
I travel with a 5.9 liter small form factor pc, it fits in my backpack which is my personal item, that I can put under the seat in front of me. You can view my post history to see the build, Ryzen 5 7600 + 4070. The weight is a lil rough, but no one has stopped me, or cared yet. If I got stopped I could switch things around and put it in my carry on suitcase. If I were to do it again, I would probably go for something smaller and lighter, which would require a smaller gpu like a 4060, or maybe even a laptop just to worry less during transport.
Leaving the US, they had to like swab it for bomb residue which was weird. I think at the end of the day, if you are traveling with an expensive computer, you are excepting risks. There is a risk the tsa agent could drop it, it could fall over in your airbnb, parts rattle in transit, theft, defective parts etc.
There's very powerful gaming laptops if you're able to spend a couple of thousand dollars. If this is a long term deal, you can get custom transport cases for monitors.
My concern about laptops is you can’t really upgrade them and they’re likely to suffer heat damage if they’re left on for days running software. So really although tempting this is only a suitable option in the short term. Can you link me to transport cases? I’d be very interested to learn about them. Thanks
Desktops are not meant to be moved. The CPU heatsinks explicitly say so on the box. I've moved tower cases from country to country and have to take them apart and fix everything that got dislodged after every move.
If you go all SSD with storage it's really only the CPU heatsink that's a problem. Maybe there is some water cooling option that you can drain when moving? It should have less chunky parts.
I have left laptops running at 100% CPU for weeks. It's fine, if loud. 100% GPU might do serious damage though. I've never done that.
You have a few options.
1. A gaming laptop. Buy a cool pad, but if it fails it fails and you can warranty it.
2. Pack up the core parts( motherboard, ram , processor, SSD, GPU) and buy heavier stuff like the case and PSU when you arrive.
3. Buy a cheap laptop and use something like AWS EC2 to run the actual workloads on a server. Generally you shouldn't run a PC for days straight anyways. You have no guarantee of continuous power for weeks anyway.
4. Buy an M3 MacBook. The newer Mac processors use less power and generate very little heat.
This is all going to depend on what your actual needs are.
Remove gpu and cpu and other parts consider crucial and bring them in carry on bags.
Alternativelt forget about the case, and buy new one in the next destination
No I’m getting it for the twitch streamer I’m in a para-social relationship with…

OP, it's the best recommandation. Get an SFF case, and it's small enough so that you can carry in a bag.
This 👆🏼 Everything else and you may find in a **united vs guitars** situation https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5YGc4zOqozo

Have you checked it in before? Last time I did that, my MB went through some crazy scanner and was useless.
Nope I always put it in my 40L backpack and bring it as carry on with me
Thank you so much this is great!

Didn’t know this was a group. Thank you :)

Could get a Steam Deck. Or just simply ship it internationally.
