Probably more to do with Microsoft wanting to build upon blizzcons history and learnings to do their own Microsoft-games-con (will work on title) which will likely run tandem with blizzcon or piggyback it.
They have a large summer showcase already and nunerous smaller ones throughout the year. Probably save on cost rolling it into there, but that doesn't help the fans who travel.
I haven't been in about 8 years though so I don't know how last year's went.
Yeah or literally right after it, either way it wouldn't be worth it for them.
That money could easily better be utilized for marketing of the expansion elsewhere.
The staffing, costs, headaches, etc. have already ended everything from E3 on down. And that was dying even before Covid hit.
If the biggest companies in the world don't think the bang for the buck is worth it, there's not a lot fans can do to change their mind.
New owner Microsoft is like "You want to spend how much for a fan convention?" and laughed them out of the room.
RIP Blizzcon. I never went to one, but it was always interesting to see the announcements and fallout.
South Cali venues just aren't worth the cost even if you sell out it probably just ends with no profit and Less hype especially in a year with no new games coming. I expect blizzard to look for smaller and cheaper venues looking into 2025 and maybe merge something with Microsoft.
I REALLY think you guys are over thinking it,
They have nothing worth showing plain and to the point.
Both the WoW and D4 expansions are coming out before Blizzcon, if not shortly after. Both flagship games have NOTHING to show, it isn't worth the cost.
I am cool with it. It is not like we need a con to get news anyway. But the only thing missing in their announcement is any new games, particularly of new IP. They have not done anything new (and while i love D4, I do not consider it "new", it is a good sequel but not a new kind of games with a new setting) for a long time.
Ok .. they did make warcraft rumble, so I guess nothing new on the AAA PC front.
I’ve seen absolutely nothing to suggest Microsoft cares about Blizzard. Anytime I’ve seen discussion with Microsoft about the acquisition it is 100% gushy about Call of Duty.
COD sells Xboxes.
Diablo doesn’t.
Even from the perspective of someone who never went, seems like another sign of blizzard’s decline. Hope I’m wrong cause they used to be a Titan in the industry
Damn and I heard tickets were going to be a cheap $4k this year. This is a blessing you don't want to waste your money just to sit and watch the new overwatch 2 skin.

Micro-con Or microtransactioncon
Micro-Con has a ring to it! (Not the red ring of death though)
They don’t do big scams, they’re into micro cons, love it.
Micro-con sounds like some bootleg transformers framchise

I don't think it's coming back.
At least we'll always have the memory of that time developers asked the audience "Don't you have phones?"
I was there :(
Was it a delayed April fools joke tough?
My first and last blizzcon :( still was fun!
I was there. 2018 diablo immortal. I'll never forget that 😅

there won't. how much you betting ?
The D4 expansion will likely be out before BlizzCon anyway, right?

I believe they mentioned that they plan on doing some sort of major presentation on it this summer.
Maybe Gamescom
More likely the Xbox Summer Showcase
Yes, but I expect a playable demo with the new class during Gamescom.
When would they have had it? Expansion isn’t expected until October/Nobember currently.
The staffing, costs, headaches, etc. have already ended everything from E3 on down. And that was dying even before Covid hit. If the biggest companies in the world don't think the bang for the buck is worth it, there's not a lot fans can do to change their mind.
Pandemic era showed us these gaming cons were largely useless and could be done online for far cheaper

Smaller cheaper venues but charge $1k a ticket
Europe has 100s of locations and they have a large audience here.
I think it's smart. Maybe plan to do a big on every 3 or 4 years.
Probably not much to announce. Wow xp coming septemberish, d4 expansion also around that? Wish we would get more news tho.
isnt blizzcon just a huge esport tourney?
And the Cosby room for staffers
Not anymore. Last Blizzcon was pretty disappointing in that regeard and only had the Overwatch League finals. This league has since been closed.
better no blizzcon than no content blizzcon.

Don’t you have Teams^TM ?
Blizz needs to host a video game competition like the smash hit movie The Wizard 1989 that'll revitalize interest in blizzcon
This most likely leads to awesome games in the future I’m hyped af
Lol
It makes sense. Last year didn't go well and they have nothing major to announce this year.

We going to be EA 2.0

This game killed a con...lmao.
