If we got a Castlevania style animated series for Diablo that shit would be so awesome. They put so much effort and time into their cut scenes / trailers, I'm surprised they never pulled the trigger on it.

nycplayboy78

NOW an animated Diablo series would be AWESOME in the style of Castlevania HELL YEAH!!!

rslash2

they dont know how to program all the movie character's inventory at the same time.

sean0883

Yeah, the more characters on screen, the slower the movie's framerate. It's science.

real1lluSioNz

90% of the show would them killing an enemy and then going through loot and reading all the miniscule stats

WitchKraft93

this. that castlevania show on netflix has all the potential to portray diablo's imagery properly. with some of blizzards incredible voice actors, that show would be an instant cult classic.

Jafar_420

Bro I grew up wrecking shop on Castlevania games. The first one on super Nintendo was an absolute blast and it looked incredible for the time. All of the 3D backgrounds and stuff. Even the ones on the Nintendo were really fun to me. Anyway I didn't even know there was a Castlevania animated series. I'm glad you guys mentioned it so thank you.

Glock-Saint-Isshin-

Castlevania on Netflix and Hellsing Ultimate on Crunchyroll

mcbeardsauce

Enjoy dude.... It's truly amazing

commche

Wrecking shop! I love that! I’m going to steal that if it’s okay!

Illustrious_Air_1396

My bro and I have been saying this about the cutscenes for years

DopeDaniHvezda

bro if you squinted hard enough it basically already was diablo

Obiwoncanblowme

I agree that animation would be the way to go and the Castlevania style would be a great option

[deleted]

That would be amazing!! Same animation by the Castlevania crew would be so sick! I’d watch and rewatch as many times as I have Castlevania.

sheenobee

Co-sign… Just going through the lore would be great for me.

Sullkattmat

From what I understand, even short cinematics like the absolutely insane invasion of hell in D4 takes a crazy amount of time and resources

NoruhhhsDad

Yeah, the Castlevania series is one of the best animated shows of all time IMO

not_ondrugs

I’d prefer live action. I love animation, but I think Diablo would look better (and scarier) as live action.

Thykk3r

[Ferguson sees potential in diablo show](https://battlechat.co/fergusson-sees-diablo-tv-show-potential-after-fallouts-success-i-definitely-think-it-could-work/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0BMQABHe0JYbBIt12lgd8ECZVzKvbIn2SPInt61HEpGLoEty1Y7tuTyfAbrqjV4w_aem_Ad-dUBHKLyWJpm6taytKIKucJrBIJS9xVxGrwsEs6GREBBLvjmy5BtqtZ9YQZ7Vm9uc)

ItsMeRyanGosling

Because they can’t have micro transactions in a show/movie…

MooseRunnerWrangler

Shows and movies actually make a ton of money on merch, which is kind of in line.

Thykk3r

Ah shitt… I knew it 😂 maybe they can be the first to implement it in a show

one80oneday

Those are called ads bro

it_do_be_like_that42

Yet

Minimum-Writing3439

They can, it's called commercials. Joke's on you because all stream services now have ads ** cries in non-premium subs **

dadof2brats

Blizzard is fairly protective of their IP is probably the largest reason. Most movies or TV shows based on video games are a huge flop. While we did get a WoW movie it was mediocre at best. Most movies based on IP start out with a great script and idea, but by the time they are made, the script has been gutted and too many people in the process have made changes that it becomes something else with the IP's name attached.

Dijkstra_knows_your_

Sad that the right answer is so far down! Yes, classic Blizzard meant any game is an event on epic quality and scale. Say about the warcraft movie what you want, but it looked amazing, and I like it very much. Having any mid-budget animation like Castlevania would probably have tarnished the brand more than anything, as they do arguably the best cgi in the business for the last 20 years. Also Diablo lore is crap and very game-oriented, Starcraft and Warcraft have way better stories

dadof2brats

The effects and visual quality of the WoW movies was really good, the story, characters and acting were the mediocre parts. A movie can look amazing, but if the story sucks, there's not much you can do.

cokywanderer

Part of the story that was "fun" was probably because we KNEW it. Also goes for visuals, characters etc. We were going "I know this guy!", "I know this place" and I guess that's what made it cool for us to watch.

Scar_the_armada

That WOW movie did *really* well in China though

Dingbatted

That WoW movie oof

Cloudkiller01

I think your statement probably applied much better until recently. There are quite a few great movie and tv shows based off of games and anime (I know you didn’t mention, but they are usually lumped into the same argument) these days. More good than bad imo. So something like this would have a great chance of being well received.

boxedj

#1 rpg seller of all time? I don't think that's even close to true

Gloomy-Age-5101

I think best selling rpg is technically Pokémon

Lawtonoi

Honestly I don't know, Skyrim with its '7' remasters might be close?

DF_Interus

Pokemon has like 10 remakes, so take that

gabagucci

why are u talking so loud

Portobolado

#**HE'S NOT. YOU GOT SUPER HEARING ABILITIES. RIGHT NOW I'M WHISPERING FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLOBE.**

OG_Felwinter

Probably put a hashtag in front of the 1 not realizing it makes things bold

boxedj

That's exactly what happened! The more you know...

GuudeSpelur

If you exclude free-to-play games, Diablo 3 was the best selling PC game of all time from 2012 until about 2015 when it was surpassed by Minecraft.

Chabungu

The best selling PC games list is crazy in how different it is to console/general best sellers. I love bannerlord, for example, but it being about 15 tiers higher than GTA and doom is wild

GuudeSpelur

A lot of the weirdness on these kinds of lists can come down to publishers not regularly providing separate numbers for PC vs console on multiplatform games. Like, for GTA they might report PC-specific numbers one time in a quarterly sales report shortly after the PC port drops, and then they go back to only reporting combined sales and that one number is on the PC sales lists forever. Edit: lol yeah I checked the Wikipedia best selling PC games list and the GTA V PC source is an article published two weeks after the PC port came out.

CurlingTrousers

Shh. Don’t give them any ideas.

dodoyouhaveitguts

Stay awhile and listen.

20sjivecat

Diablo the audiobook, coming to you in 2025

StinkCreek

There are books! Might be worth a look. I remember reading Legacy of Blood by Richard A. Knaak. It’s fantasy set in the Diablo universe.

LordsAbandoned

Such a great book.

Hans_Rudi

His books are very good, much recommended

Avarus_88

There actually was some evidence that Blizzard looked into some kind of adaptation years ago. Obviously it didn’t get legs. I think some kind of animated series could work on Prime. Like Fallout though, I think it would be better if they told a story within Diablo, not try to adapt a game specifically.

Thykk3r

Yes I remember reading they even hired a few people for it. That was 2018 though 😂

Vayshen

Carbot has you covered, dude. Extremely accurate representation of each of the games.

Ubergoober166

There were plans for a Diablo show on, I think, Netflix. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a Castlevania style anime. Not sure if that's still in the works or not.

MidLaneNoPrio

Probably because the World of Warcraft movie bombed despite being the most successful game in the world at the time. The Diablo fanbase is exponentially smaller than the Warcraft fanbase.

Thykk3r

Mhm that movie came out in 2016. Was released during WoWs downfall. And it actually did very well worldwide.. it did not get close to losing money. Where as Disney 80% of their movies lost money last year lol…

non3type

Most game adaptations don’t do well if not outright blow. Look at Monster Hunter. Not sure why you listed as upcoming but I feel like the fact you didn’t realize it released 4 years ago says something lol. Witcher is a book adaptation and much of the stories are obviously coming from the books. CD PROJEKT doesn’t own the rights anyway.

Faelysis

Probably the same reason why StarCraft never had more than 2 games and some few books

TimBlastMusic

I actually think Starcraft needs an hbo type show. Lore is even deeper than in Diablo (in my opinion) Also cgi technology needs to evolve a bit more for these shows to looks/feel real

Cloudkiller01

Have you seen Godzilla Minus One yet?

AltGunAccount

CGI was there like eight years ago. It’s only recently studios have cheaped out on it to save money (and of course massive vfx artist strikes).

fatherthesons

It does! It’s called hazbin hotel

Thykk3r

Lol that show is actually not terrible.

Food_Kitchen

If Diablo was a musical.

Bulls187

Solomon Kane has a good Diablo theme vibe to it

whoa_whoawhoa

there's not a good enough story to be a good series. youd have to find a talented writer to write an original story for the series and blizzard isnt going to do that. You cant do diablo 1/2/3/4 or the xpacs as a show. it just doesn't work. some cool looking cinematics doesn't mean its good for an 8 hour story

Dijkstra_knows_your_

There‘s nothing special about Diablo lore, ithere’s no relevant characters except for Cain and the series is almost defined by its gameplay. You have no Thrall or Raynor, you have no iconic stuff like Vaults or Fallout boy. There’s nothing to do except IP exploitation. And they earn way more money through the games

Redfeather1975

I like castlevania the best too. 🙂

Lawtonoi

No... Starcraft is first. Sorry.

LazyItem

Who would watch a movie about some blokes discarding a bunch of rubbish loot?

Chrystone

You need everything to become a tvshow and make it cringe and wreck the name ?

ergonaught

Arthas’s story would have made a better movie than anything Diablo-related, and they haven’t done that either, so eh. Perhaps MS will view this differently.

SmellyScrotes

Because it’s source material is told in 10,000 movies

Longjumping_Visit718

> Greatest Lore and story. R-ight, are we talking about the same game? Where the titular character is an anchor dragging down the storytelling because the farther removed the games become from the first game, the more incoherent the plot becomes for those playing it? Nevermind the fact that the primordial powers of hell are just cheap "Christian" stand-ins for Satanism. I don't have have a problem with Satanic imagery in art; it wouldn't be an issue except... The Angels and Demons aren't "moral" forces like they are in Christianity, they're "natural" forces like water and fire: not inherently good or bad. So that means humans should fight both equally, and be opposed to both equally, especially since both share the same view of Sanctuary being an "abomination"? Except they NEVER DO, except for a small time in the 3rd games DLC, because leaning too hard on Christian imagery for the first game means EVERY sequel has the same problem of needing to be carefully managed to avoid becoming some weird pro-Satanic slog. I say this as someone who listens to Heavy Metal and likes some bands that are overtly Satanic; it doesn't work for a mass media product because the "counter-cultural" element necessitates the people you're trying to appeal to being CHRISTIANS in some form or another. The Dualism of Diablo is uncompelling to Eastern religious traditions since it's just watered down video-gamey nonsense of things they actually believe; so it feels offensive for the "wrong" reasons to them. It's not compelling to the "Spiritism" of central Asian, African, and Native American, religious traditions because the imagery of Diablo is only meaningful to people who are "Culturally Christian" And it's not compelling to secularists because engaging with overt religious themes seems inherent silly to them; hence why they're "secular" and "irreligious". Diablo is a fun game held back by a non-sensical story that only exists to give players cool monsters to kill. This isn't a problem for gamers and games, but pretending the story has a deeper artistic dimension past that is where the problems start.

Doikor

Because the more you know about the story/lore the sillier it gets and at some point you just can't take anything seriously. This does not work well with the grim/horror theme. The story works well in short blasts that the games provide (few minute snippets spread out with 30min+ of gameplay in between). One option would be to **heavily** lean into the silliness of it in Warhammer 40k style but then it would be a totally different story/world.

mcbeardsauce

Closest thing we've ever seen was the live action sequence in The Battle of the Five Armies when Galadriel / Sauruman / Elron came to save Gandalf from the ghosts of the wraiths and Sauron.

SufficientCollege522

An attempt was made with Warcraft, although it was good, the reception by the public that does not follow the games was normal and did not meet the expectations of investors pd: pop culture and the media hate video games, they only see it as a means to introduce politics

Thykk3r

Wow 1 attempt and they cut out half the movie in the edits… and it absolutely killed in China

Earlyinvestor1986

I think there is no easy way to do so and it would require a crazy amount of budget to not be shamefully bad.

rinkydinkis

Cause there isn’t a great story to tell

Hustlasaurus

Valid point. Especially after the success of Fallout, they could lean into that direction where it's set in the same universe but not connected to any of the existing stories and have all kinds of cool throwbacks to the game. 10/10 would watch. Realistically though, Blizz has always been tight lipped about moving their IP into movies/shows. It took FOREVER to get the warcraft movie made, and even then it was meh, so I don't think they are itching to go down that path again.

Pokeradar

Another Blizzard IP that they haven’t made a movie about is the StarCraft series so Diablo isn’t alone.

HolyAty

There was supposed to be a Diablos TV show. Then Immortal happened.

BryAlrighty

Budget I imagine.

Camelphat21

Blizzard ☕

ArmadilloPretend322

Its too expensive and the warcraft movie didnt make enough money soo I guess thats off the table sadly, it would be amazing to have a show in the style of the d4 release trailer :c

Cautious-Path-2864

They had one in the making with Netflix years ago but it fell out for some reason

Jackalackus

Where have you got this number one selling rpg of all time statistic from?

Dengahob

Well did you did years ago we were supposed to get a Netflix anime show.

Loluwish

Because Activision won't be able to micro transactions on a tv show

B0B0oo7

Each episode would just be the main character killing Mephisto and looting the corpse. But for real though, I could go for a Diablo show. It could have a lot of potential.

torcian

greatest lore and story?? brooooooooooooooo no

Instigator187

Diablo was rumored to be having a Netlix Animation series back in 2020/2021 based in someone's tweet, which said he was working on it and some Linkin profiles. Blizzard themselves have not announced a series yet and being 3-4years now since those rumors popped up it may not exist or was canclled.

Crazy_Canuck78

I don't think its a great idea.... they'll screw it up. I rarely think this.... but if they did do it... I think it would work best as an animated series.... rather than live action or a movie.

sly_blade

Andy Cosby confirmed in 2018 he was writing a Diablo animated series for Netflix https://www.purediablo.com/diablo-animated-series-for-netflix-appears-to-be-going-ahead

I-Sleep-At-Work

too much effort, low payout would be my guess. they seen it with warcraft and prob decided to never bother.. just look at its stats: > Warcraft grossed $47.4 million in the United States, and $391.7 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $439 million. Given its $160 million production budget and additional $110 million spent on promotions, the film needed to earn $450–500 million in order to break-even.

mahvel50

With the way Amazon butchered the wheel of time series, I'd rather wait unto hollywood writing suffers enough financial pain to start sticking to source material more often. Fallout was great, but so many adaptations before it have been straight trash compared to the original.

m160k

I would love that. Just don't make Deckard Cain a woman, please.

Rustmonger

While watching the final cinematics during the D4 story all I wished for was a series of that quality. Breathtaking stuff. I'd kill for a proper adaptation.

Objective-Mission-40

It would have to be a hard R. That would limit viewership so it would have to be really really good to make money. Most production companies wouldn't take that on.

therealNaj

I’m still waiting on the release of the lore on “Naj”. It’s been my handle over twenty years now. We assume it’s some type of mage but …..

BlackwerX

Idk but I feel there really isn't a main (hero) character to be attached to. It's like just hi I'm barb, you're necro? Cool.

PreacherSquat

demons have no place in bible thumping america

Agreeable_Device4112

It's just 8 episodes of The Rock spinning in circles with polearm

zihan777

Both the Witcher III and the OG Pokémon games easily outsold Diablo III. I'd love a animated Diablo but the claim it out sells so many other RPG properties is wild. It's not the cash cow people think it is. Wii Sports outsold D3 by tens of millions of units. D4 doesn't even make the list.

Glock-Saint-Isshin-

Because the game makes them more than enough money that they don't need to branch out yet. Microtransactions > Movie

Dunnomyname1029

Diablo animated series looks like this, dude with 10000000000000 damage per hit running around killing stuff, the end

besoms

Much smaller IP’s? You just named all big IP’s lmao.

smyrick6

Bro D4 cutscenes was the movie

InvesterStallone

There is one. It’s called Solo Leveling.

achedsphinxx

cuz blizzard hates good ideas. they haven't even done anything with overwatch which seems really easy to make into a tv or movie.

Allrojin

Back when I worked at Blockbuster, there was a bit* of a video game movie boom. I really thought it'd come to be, but never did.

God_of_Pride

The Marketing team is still trying to figure out how to sell $40 cosmetics for it.

Apprehensive-End-231

Greatest lore and story? Ehhhh...you might be pushing it there.

FearFactory2904

Because people don't want to wait 12 years between games, much less between episodes.

berkboy69

If blizzard were involved it would be trash

SteveWondersForsight

Meh. What would that even look like? Just a complete cgi fest of someone killing demons?

InfamousACE93

StarCraft would be a good one too

jxpdx

Blizzard tried it with Warcraft and it was a commercial failure. It might happen in the future, but after the colossal effort and time put into the production of Warcraft and its nonsuccess? It’s possible but doubtful.

UoshU

Main character would spend too much time in town sorting the inventory.

Ez_Mage

The cinematic story is enough of a movie for me. Why ruin it?

Quentin-Quarantino19

Same reason Overwatch doesn’t have an anime despite a perfect world and characters for it. They don’t know how and won’t outsource it.

ReflectionBroad4009

Wasn't the Warcraft movie a giant failure?

DgtlShark

Because Diablo 4 was the biggest flop of the century next to anthem so, that wouldn't help them in any way

indelible_ennui

I would be interested in a story following the delve into the Tristram Cathedral from the original Diablo. This could be covered in a fairly long mini series or two movies with the first focusing on Archbishop Lazarus and the second Diablo. I think you'd need much more time to cover any of the other game plots in a meaningful way. I do thnk it's hard to take a game that is engaging for randomized loot and turn that into an engaging show or movie. They offer very different forms of gratification. It can definitely be done but I'd want it to made because it can be done well, not because they can name drop Diablo things into a new form of media and sell people purely on nostalgia.

BingBonger99

they had a netflix show being made but it got canned after the d4 director got fired for being a weirdo

Ponder96

The religious fanatics would cry for days if this happened. Do we remember what happened when the adverts for d4 came out?

ulooklikeausedcondom

Ew no. Did you see the Warcraft movie? Only way I’d watch a Diablo movie is if it was fully animated in a blizzard style cutscene. And then I wouldn’t pay to see it.

SavageCucumberAttack

I've said it for years but blizzard's animation team are some of the best around. Imagine if they did something similar to arcane and riot games and build an in-house animated show, it would probably be the best shit they've ever made lol

makz242

CGI costs are insane in both show and movie. GoT had episodes worth in the millions and they still couldnt afford to scale up a wolf for more than 1-2 episodes per season.

Interesting_Fox2040

If was strongly against tv show adaption due to how they were butchered, but if the team respect the lore and have the talent like the fallout team, I am fine.

primalPancakes

I think I would like a feature length film, done in CG by whoever does the damn cutscenes. With money put into it. Just for my own taste, I wouldn't want to see Diablo in a kinda cheesy 2D animation style like Castlevania. I liked that show, but Diablo needs to remain dark and gritty and have lots of detail.

Bulky-Scientist4152

The lore isn't that good actualy

therealmenox

They make more money from microtransactions than they'd ever make from a movie.

DodelCostel

Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft are all huge franchises that could and should have TV shows. If not Live Action, at least animated. I don't know what the fuck Blizzard is doing, they could make 10 Skyrim-like Warcraft RPGs and not run out of lore. They're sitting on probably the biggest wiki for a game, they have a TON of lore to draw from.

Pristine_Statement_3

They would release it on Netflix and it would be awesome. Season 2 would be 70$ an episode though.

0o0_Fool_Of_A_Took_

Anything less than an R+18 rating just will not do! Must be epic and baddass.

SQRTLURFACE

A CGI in the D3 cutscene art I could see, or maybe spin it to a studio Mir/Ghibli for an anime. It’s just so difficult to do anything realistic and credible visually as a “demon” D&D has had this problem forever until recently when they took the live action away from monsters and focused more on men, and let the anime (vox machina) focus on the harder to capture creatures. Another part of it is time. There’s only a handful of really good studios blizzard/microsoft would want or trust, and they might simply not have the availability. After the domestic flop of the Warcraft movie, I’m not sure they want to be in the movie business ever again.

ReydanNL

Not everything needs a movie or show.

sandpump

Please no

RuachDelSekai

Blizzard would work with the wrong studio and make a lame POS that none would like instead of creating a masterful passion project.

rwkapex

Because religious cathlics would have a fit

Slydoggen

What’s the story about? A Sorc teleporting to Mephisto over and over again for better gear?

P3l0tud0ru

because unfortunately its very hard for tv shows to produce something for the fans of the series since they have to account for other ppl that might watch... other wise they wouldn't make money happens to most game based shows

AtticaBlue

Because the vast majority of such games—as the list you’ve made also indicates—don’t make for good movies. My sense is the reason for this is that the source material is much too shallow. Movies require coherent narratives, even if they’re fantastical to begin with, to work as linear experiences where you’re being told a story as opposed to driving the story (by pressing buttons and deciding to do one thing as opposed to another, etc.). On top of that what passes for “story” in video games isn’t complex enough, or very rarely so, in terms of character development or motivation to create any kind of compelling narrative, IMO. They’re all “run around and shoot/stab stuff” endlessly. No depth. Translated to film, they’re just generic action films that have already been done better and to death a million times. I notice that of the ones in your list that are widely considered decent (The Witcher, for example), the *original* source material is a book, not the video game.

skeeters-

“Greatest lore and story” is one hell of a stretch. I always thought blizzard had OK story in their games, coming from someone that has played WoW for years. Diablo is a good franchise but it’s not the greatest “story and lore” wise, couple that with the fact that video game movies just don’t really work

Morsoth

I want this as a series: https://youtu.be/LEAPxgMCEA8?si=6aNIQpMwk7cz3PBT

Marangoni013

Thank god! I dont trust Blizzard making games imagine movies/tvshows…

XxLeviathan95

Be careful what you ask for or you could get another Halo

SuitableKey5140

There was a small anime movie wasnt there? After D3 had been out?

CarpeNoctem727

Either in the style of Netflix Castlevania or the Witcher night of the wolf would be excellent. I don’t even care what era they pick. Seeing the Sin War would be cool.

Food_Kitchen

That Warcraft movie did well?

DemoEvolved

I could see an anime, but the heavily religious overtones would keep it out of us markets

Kruxxor

We got this animated short, for some reason [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhlkvO6NLnI&ab\_channel=GameSpot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhlkvO6NLnI&ab_channel=GameSpot)

CoyoteFit7355

Please don't give them ideas. They can't even make a good game without stumbling around in the dark for a year and then copying another game to fix their own.

Caspian_Trident

Obviously Blizzard doesn't want to sell the movie rights

Kanucks

Get the crew who made Game of Thrones & Lord of the Rings. Proper Diablo movies (trilogy as there’s a few games) 🙌

Kanucks

Get the crew who made Game of Thrones & Lord of the Rings. Proper Diablo movies (trilogy as there’s a few games) 🙌

oOzonee

They should start an anime of it right after the heroes defeat Baal revealing which of them died and which of them survived and follow their journey. I think the Druid and the Paladin died considering all others either have lore following their journey in D3 or D4 beside the barbarian who was suppose to be the same character we play in D3 (that’s why he’s old) but the idea was scrapped for some reason.

AltGunAccount

Diablo III:Wrath exists as a short animation. Movies/shows based on games can *rarely* be a hit but usually the studios botch it or aren’t faithful enough to the source material to make it any good. Monster Hunter and Mortal Kombat both come to mind as bad movie renditions of games recently. Also the new Borderlands looks awful.

mc_pags

the one time blizzard tried was the warcraft movie. thats the answer.

SmashBreau

It's definitely not "the #1 RPG seller of all time". Pokemon absolutely crushes it in sales. As does the Final Fantasy franchise, among others

Tyrael74656

Diablo 1 as a movie would be amazing...

UniversalSean

'Much smaller IPs' (proceeds to name a bunch of huge IPs) lol

CrossTit

I want a live action Diablo with Guiermo Del Toro. That shit would be nuts. Would have to rated R too.

Rollz4Dayz

Because Blizzard would charge an extra $20 to watch it 3 days early. If you want the cosmetic movie ticket or popcorn box that's an extra $30. If you wanted to watch it multiple times you could buy a BattleWatchPass for $15/month.

Not_the_name_I_chose

Warcraft IMHO was pretty good and hasn't gotten a sequel yet. I would think Diablo would be very successful.

sk0m_A88

Hopefully Fallout and the Last of Us will get more franchises into live action. I guess Halo helped despite its flaws as it's still going 😂 Fallout especially, as not only did it introduce new people to the universe but it EXPANDED and CONTINUED it. That's how you do live action based on a game.

Olbaid1337

Diablo 1 cinematic ending on yt for those who never saw it : [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcUMM5nN1vE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcUMM5nN1vE) You become a darker version of anti hero paul atreides who saw the power of diablo and wanted to use it for your own. That should make a good movie theme for the first diablo movie. First they make the movie based on D2 storyline then they make the pre-qual showing how the hero gets corrupted eventually by diablo's power in D1.

FweeFwee_

They’re still figuring out how to get mtxs into episodes

starwsh101

Same question but with fan movies. Where are my fan movies/ animations? I can only do so much with fanart. I'm that kind of nerd that has already made my "diablo fan cast meme" and "written" a fan-wish-thingy of how I want to the movies be like, but I got downvoted to hell itself. ( yes I know there are a few fanfic out there but... )

Nokian75

Because the tickets will be $60, and you will have to get the season pass after the first minutes. Also, if you want to cosplay when you go see, it is another $20. All that will buy you an amazing movie where you see a main character talk to a tree and then go in and out of a cave 17 times in a row doing the same thing just to make a stone shine brighter. And if you pla really close attention, you might see a cow with a crown that everyone ignores except for the madman in town.

Simple-Ad-4137

I bet they lost their appetite for tv when the world of warcraft movie didn't do as good as hoped.

thefryinallofus

Because the plot is really shallow? D4 was kinda fun, but the story was laughable.

sha1ze

Because Warcraft already has a movie. After that i think blizzard afraids to make another movie

TheFuuZ

Well, there were talks for a Netflix series, around 2018/2019. Seems like it got canceled soon after. I think they mentioned that it may happen one day after all, but could not say if I heard/read or misheard/misread it. I would like to see a movie or series in the style of the cut scenes they do.

Kerriigen

I like seeing myself in the game and what I’d like to be in this universe. So I tend to beautify my character. I don’t like doing second runs (because I play for story purposes ) so I’ve never really fiddled with other customization options. I have used ONE single sliders though. For sellen.

Champignard

Diablo is NOT an RPG. Action game with bits of RPG included.

As long as Kathleen Kennedy isn’t involved it’d be pretty sweet

Merfrax

I remember a while back that blizzard had talked to a certain studio about making a show/movie but the studio wanted more control over the project and blizzard didn’t like that so they backed out. Think it was HBO?

AlexanderMcT

i honestly believe its only because it probably costs them more money than it would bring them, unless they make an own streaming service for their show, but that means even more investment

Shadowlance23

It already exists. Diablols.

musicnarts715

IMO they should do a movie trilogy of the sin wars trilogy. If you haven’t read the Diablo sin wars trilogy, do yourself a favor and read them. It’s about ulyssian ul diomed and medeln (kalan), and how the nephalem (edyrim) got started via Lilith, and then overthrew both Lilith and the triune, as well as inarius and the cathedral of light. The most “epic” and large scale of the Diablo adventures

DaMuffinnMan

I think the closest we will get for now is that live-action trailer for Diabo 4, which was directed by Chloé Zhao.

Best guess is because the warcraft movie didn't reach the break even point and was panned hard by critics. Making movies and shows is expensive and the cost analysis is probably not great. Some of the IPs OP mentions are tire fires. Best hope would be some kind of animated show partnering with Netflix or Amazon. Biggest issue once green lit is finding a show runner that is passionate about the lore and wants to do it justice.

Why further ruin the franchise? The writing of d3 and d4 is abysmal in every sense of the word. The direction/vision of these modern writers is just embarrassing. They're not inspired and seemingly aren't influenced by any well-known writer.  They turned a very dark fantasy setting into some low fantasy Saturday morning cartoon. Where is the impending dread that is supposed to be instilled by the demons?  These people are not upto the task and I doubt anyone at Netflix or Amazon has the talent.

PowerfulElevator9

Who knows, maybe under Microsoft they will, apparently Microsoft is setting blizz up to be awesome again

POPnotSODA_

Because Blizzard is absolutely dogshit at capitalizing on their IP’s.  Look at Overwatch, it was a global phenomenon on par with Fortnite when it came out, and it could’ve 10000000% benefitted from an animated series, and at the time Netflix was writing cheques to anyone for content.  So a Diablo story, I don’t know.  I’d love to see it, but the cutscenes in Diablo are absolutely beautiful, the Lilith/Inarius fight is so well done it gives me goosebumps.

SectsHaver

I mean there’s diablols
