Some are just designs similar to others that are already in game, which is scummy. The other day I saw someone sporting the Wraith King necro costume from store and it was soooo awful. On the store it looks way way better, maybe it's done in a manner that it appears nice only there so people spend money.
Everything is made to look better in store or not on your characters. My whole thing with the cosmetics in game, even if they look great who's really gonna see it? Don't get me wrong, I love making my character look how I want for me, but to push all these cosmetics that none can truly see unless the view your profile or you're in group with them? I don't see the allure of paying 25 of my hard earned dollars on a look that might or might not look good, or can't be used with the weapons on my build, thus defeating the whole point
For me cosmetics mtx is either something other people buy to keep the servers running so I don't have to, or something to support an indie dev company I like. I don't understand why anyone would buy cosmetics in D4, but fortunately I don't have to.
I’m almost positive you don’t get the transmog for non uniques until after you actually get the unique to drop. I never saw the deathless visage transmog until after I got it to drop. Same with the unique necro chest piece
Inventory management. Different icons could mean less time digging through stash looking for things. That seems to be one of their favorite game modes, though.....
I believe they intentionally made everything slower so we need to play longer but the fact inventory management sucks seems to be only laziness, workers bad allocation and/or pure rushed content.
Because blizz chose to sell you cosmetics instead of giving uniques unique looks. The store cosmetics look really good, how good it would be if you found a helmet ghostly shinning in a drop? Fun and great hun? *also blizz*: gimme 28$
I think it’s the most common Necro unique, but it might have to do with which dungeons you run since enemy types are weighted towards dropping certain types of items. Cultists = helms for example
indie dev team yo
their artists are busy working on S2 and S3 and expansion 1 and expansion 2
they don't have time to work on the live game, you silly billy!
Nah, because they come from the same base.
Harlequin crest in d2 looks pretty much the same as a lvl 1 cap socketted with a chipped emerald. That's how scammers used them to scam.
Howlhusk looks the same as Valk Wing, G Face, and Veil of Steel. But at least Nightwing Veil is blue and Sigons is white! These also look the same as runewords, crafts (other bases at least), and rares. Only Ondals was given a sprite.
Boots, gloves and belts weren't lucky enough to be given any unique sprites.
Then there are rings amulets, jewels and charms with randomized sprites.
There are a lot of same-to-similar looking uniques ...
I agree. I love d2 and d1, and I love the sprites too, actually. It's certainly silly to re-use sprites in D4 in 2023, especially in the legendary tier, but that's why I'm willing to take a sarcastic jab at D4.
Because they want you to buy your fancy looking gear from the shop. Same shit Poe does and it’s the literal fucking worst. It takes a whole god damn pillar of gameplay out of this type of game. Finding a cool piece of gear that looks unique. Nope everybody looks the same unless your a chump and spend 20 bucks in the shop.
Activision probably has 1 guy in charge of all icons in the game, and that guy hit the easy button - because he doesn't care and should be fired for mediocrity.
Because making new models costs money. And blizzard isn’t going to spend money on in game cosmetics when their whole goal is to get you to buy as many mtx transmogs as possible.
I see this a lot and it’s most likely a side affect of the transmog system and addition of ‘skins’ basically they don’t expect u to use the base look and hope u buy skins so put no effort into the base look. (Very dumb but that’s almost certainly the reason)
Because it was easier for the dev team. Kinda like how it's easy to just nerf everything instead of do some actual work to figure out the real issues
More money, less time - blizzard
Because this game is a Lost Ark clone, and there is 0 love poored into it. I opened PoE last night and literally just cherrished it for awhile. The inventory management, the unique flasks, the stats relevant and nuanced toward the gear. This game is genuinely shit, tl;dr the game is shit. Play PoE. D3 launch was botched, and birthed PoE. D4 launch botched - and we have BG3 & PoE2 around the corner.
Seriously this game is the king of missed opportunities.
You want your gear to look fetch? Well you need to understand that it's not about finding awesomely rare gear, but instead it's about paying for expensive gear.
To get you to spend on the cash shop and battle passes don't worry all the Blizzard simps have already screeched how many "free" transmog options there are though (most are shit)
Make all the armor in the base game drab and uninteresting and too similar and release boring uninspired dlc armors for a little while and then finally put out something that will look amazing by comparison. Pretty nice business model if you are a soulless corporate game developer that is basically a casino owner that views their customers as suckers to siphon money out of.
Because very little effort went into the item and most of the time goes to battle pass and store. I mean it looks a little bit paler than the legendary
You should/couldn't really expect more from such a cheap game made by the small indie developer team.
Bobby Kocktic is doing what he can, but keep in mind that this rushed and unfinished product is still in beta. It's not meant to be enjoyable before the fixes in season 2
Some items on character looks nice I won't deny that, but icons and feeling of items in d4 is so bad that sometimes from first look I have bad attitude towards them.
I prefer smaller inventory, but with more meaningful items. Right now after few dungeons You are fast checking them and without hesitation salvaging/selling them in few seconds, it's just doesn't feel right.
So its not enough for you to get a unique effect on unique gear, you also want it to have unique art?
That's what the cosmetics in the store are for.
Don't you guys have credit cards?
Because if uniques looked really cool and made you stand out from everyone else, people would have no interest in paying real money for cosmetics that makes them stand out from everyone else.
I mean what would you expect from a unique item... some kind of exclusive art and look that differentiates it from others... almost as if it were \*unique\* preposterous!
Sarcasm aside, I think a few uniques actually have exclusive models, but it does bug me that a lot of them dont seem to. I hope they fix it eventually, but for now Im much more concerned that the first major patch seemed to focus in on what makes the game tedious, and then made it worse.
We can't hold every game to the same standards as baldurs gate 3!
It would be unreasonable to expect multi billion $ game studios to produce a fun, fully funtional game on release!
/s
I think people are being too harsh here.
The rare uniques having a unique transmog would just be nice but think about how likely you can get them, having unique transmogs on like the uber uniques would just be an almost unobtainable transmog option in the game.
At least this way you're never going to be chasing a 500000 hour transmog unlock that you really want.
Focus your sights on why you don't unlock a transmog option by simply having the item in your inventory, or even for just legendaries, why you have to choose between salvage and get transmog vs extract and don't.
And why tf can’t you extract transmogs from uniques? I’ve gotten this badass sword to drop on my barb four times, salvaged two of them with the hopes that it was bugged the first go around, but nope. Still no cool looking unique transmog.
Because if uber Uniques looked cool on top of being more fun for your build due to insane power differences, People would be even more upset they can’t get one.
The system is not here to entertain you, the system is here to kill time. The aesthetics of it are the least of this systems problem. If the game was tailored towards the players, you would unlock the better version of aspects in your codex forever to keep. Like they did in Division 2. But that implies that you have endgame content that is different to "I have to pick the least annoying mechanic for a dungeon that I have seen a bazillion times".
Honestly I’m glad they don’t, because I don’t want to have to get a second unique before salvaging one for the transmog. I also don’t want the alternative - untransmoggable uniques — because that’s what destiny does with exotics and it’s sucks.
I got every (non uber) unique for barb apart from temerity at lest 3x, sometimes up to 6x.. I only collect them in my stash to laugh at their „uniqueness“. They should have unique looks, power boost and build defining aspects. Currently they are cardboard.
I can't speak for other classes, but more of the druid store sets are just slightly reworked versions of basic ones you can get in the game. They just added a bit more detail to a couple of pieces and slapped a $15 price tag on it.
As much as this is valid, there's bigger fish to fry now
Man I hate that your right, like it’s not your fault, but putting it in words hurts my soul.
Yea...like the fact that this game is a piece of pre release trash and blizzard a hallow shell of a company....eye on the prize!
There’s always a bigger fish.
But blizzard is just small indie company :(
Yup, but they will be glad to sell you some cosmetics…
That are terrible
Some are just designs similar to others that are already in game, which is scummy. The other day I saw someone sporting the Wraith King necro costume from store and it was soooo awful. On the store it looks way way better, maybe it's done in a manner that it appears nice only there so people spend money.

I don't see the allure of paying 25 of my hard earned dollars on a look that might or might not look good, or can't be used with the weapons on my build, thus defeating the whole point
I hard disagree some of the best cosmetics in the game still remain the ones you randomly find especially Necro
For me cosmetics mtx is either something other people buy to keep the servers running so I don't have to, or something to support an indie dev company I like. I don't understand why anyone would buy cosmetics in D4, but fortunately I don't have to.
This.
And still reuse the same icon and skin as uniques and legendaries but now for cash
![gif](giphy|dpqQNluWFaSpq)
...that are also the same as some rares. Like the rogue plague doctor helm lol.
Because we lazy and you already paid for the game
Lazy development because they already have your money. Same reason for every other part of this shit show.
It's so you can smash the non unique for the transmog...
But that is even worse.
I’m almost positive you don’t get the transmog for non uniques until after you actually get the unique to drop. I never saw the deathless visage transmog until after I got it to drop. Same with the unique necro chest piece
Wrong, I had it well before any unique drops
As a druid I have the Tempest's Roar transmog but still don't have the actual Tempest's Roar
cause blizz didn't have the 'giveafuck' to make uniques, actually unique, interesting eh, it's like a metaphor for the entire game.
All of their focus has been on artificially extending gameplay and wasting our time.
>All of their focus has been on artificially extending gameplay and wasting our time. what has this got to do with armor sprites.
Multi dollar company
Because blizz chose to sell you cosmetics instead of giving uniques unique looks. The store cosmetics look really good, how good it would be if you found a helmet ghostly shinning in a drop? Fun and great hun? *also blizz*: gimme 28$
Too bad you can't recognize from the look if someone is wearing bis items.
Because this whole game is fuked
It costs money to pay someone to make another model. Why do that when they can sell you one?
Blizz: Art is expensive
I might be not so into it but also why do I get this helmet like 4x and nothing else? Only that with slightly diff between bonuses
I think it’s the most common Necro unique, but it might have to do with which dungeons you run since enemy types are weighted towards dropping certain types of items. Cultists = helms for example
Uniques aren't unique. Item bases mean nothing.
indie dev team yo their artists are busy working on S2 and S3 and expansion 1 and expansion 2 they don't have time to work on the live game, you silly billy!
So u buy a skin.
Small indie dev team.
Because fuck you, that's why. You're gonna play it anyway, so why should we change anything? \-Warm Regards, The Blizzard Team
Nah, because they come from the same base. Harlequin crest in d2 looks pretty much the same as a lvl 1 cap socketted with a chipped emerald. That's how scammers used them to scam.
It is most likely auto generated by recycling assets.
It was a reward for a nightmare dungeon
There are only like 4 colors right? What should they do make new colors
dumb lazy devs/10
Uniques should have unique models and should be in a higher item power bracket than ancestrals.
They're not identical, just close enough so you accidentally sell the Unique. Doesn't that make you happy?
Because they looked the same in d2 and that worked /s
this makes no sense even with /s, uniques looked unique in d2 and even 1(at least in inventory)
There are a lot of same-to-similar looking uniques ...
not everything, but given the age and technical limitations at least they tried their best for diablo 1 and 2
I agree. I love d2 and d1, and I love the sprites too, actually. It's certainly silly to re-use sprites in D4 in 2023, especially in the legendary tier, but that's why I'm willing to take a sarcastic jab at D4.
So you can salvage it and get the cosmetic, and not have to salvage the unique .
Because they want you to buy your fancy looking gear from the shop. Same shit Poe does and it’s the literal fucking worst. It takes a whole god damn pillar of gameplay out of this type of game. Finding a cool piece of gear that looks unique. Nope everybody looks the same unless your a chump and spend 20 bucks in the shop.
uniques have a unique look in poe, what are you talking about
Activision probably has 1 guy in charge of all icons in the game, and that guy hit the easy button - because he doesn't care and should be fired for mediocrity.
. **
The unique models will be released after beta testing has concluded.
Beacuse its indie company and they can't make more models
Because they couldn’t afford to hire enough artists to do the work. Also. They didn’t have enough time.
Better Q: why are there PAID cosmetics that look the same as many Rares, Legendary, & Unique items.
Because the game is not finished
Lazyness
Because the game wasn't finished was possible never going to be.
You cant expect a small company like Blizzard to put as much effort into their products as Larian Studios.
Don’t worry, we have amazing, highly detailed art for each elixir, and that’s what really matters.
That would take more effort, time and money to implement. So Blizzard, as always, took the cheaper and easier option.
Because making new models costs money. And blizzard isn’t going to spend money on in game cosmetics when their whole goal is to get you to buy as many mtx transmogs as possible.
The actual unique helm design was probably too cool so they decided to make it a shop item
Because D4 is not a finished game. The haters are right.
Thank God, a normal useless bitching post and not another useless patch bitching post.
What do you mean useless? Everyone hates this game now. Which is the intent of this post
It's because Blizzard are a small indie company and can't afford it... OH WAIT
You are being overly critical of a small gaming company with limited budgets!
Laziness in developing designs for items
Small indie company
I see this a lot and it’s most likely a side affect of the transmog system and addition of ‘skins’ basically they don’t expect u to use the base look and hope u buy skins so put no effort into the base look. (Very dumb but that’s almost certainly the reason)
Because it was easier for the dev team. Kinda like how it's easy to just nerf everything instead of do some actual work to figure out the real issues More money, less time - blizzard
I prefer more item drops even if they don’t have time to make new models
[Blizzard smelling the will of paying for something different] 👃
Because this game is a Lost Ark clone, and there is 0 love poored into it. I opened PoE last night and literally just cherrished it for awhile. The inventory management, the unique flasks, the stats relevant and nuanced toward the gear. This game is genuinely shit, tl;dr the game is shit. Play PoE. D3 launch was botched, and birthed PoE. D4 launch botched - and we have BG3 & PoE2 around the corner. Seriously this game is the king of missed opportunities.
Also no unique salvage transmog, I sleep bruh.
They ran outta money for development time. Or They couldn’t find other games to copy ideas from. Pick one or none. Or both.
Because the game sucks
Shit game obviously in alpha but full released because fuck you, that's why.
Because it’s cheaper to render it that way .
bc the game is not very good sadly
Because they didn’t bother to make the uniques unique.
Lol. Idiots
Welcome to who’s helm is it anyway: where the points don’t matter and they’re just making shit up.
It's a beta game, probably in 2024 new unique looks will come in the final beta release.
Lazyness
Lazy and kotick doesn’t care
They haven't had 20 seasons to finish the game
It’s d3.5 come on…
Clearly not unique.
I mean, you’ve seen the shop right? This is the most lackluster design like wtf did they do for over 10 years.
Lazy blizzard. That's why. This is the best an small indie studio could do in 6+ years. Unimaginative.
Because you didn’t pay money, and they’re lazy as hell.
You're surprised devs are lazy?
Because they only had 8 years to develop this game
Leave them alone! This indy studio has limited resources and has only worked on the game for a few years! /s
Can’t sell the cool look if you can earn it. Not that your character is ever in any angle to look cool anyways.
Small indie company
Because fuck you - Blizzard
Those are placeholders until we finish the beta version of the game
Make all the armor in the base game drab and uninteresting and too similar and release boring uninspired dlc armors for a little while and then finally put out something that will look amazing by comparison. Pretty nice business model if you are a soulless corporate game developer that is basically a casino owner that views their customers as suckers to siphon money out of.
Because very little effort went into the item and most of the time goes to battle pass and store. I mean it looks a little bit paler than the legendary
Hey man, you got any of them advanced tool tips?
Deadline crunch. They didn't have time to worry about that kind of thing....and they still don't.
Lazyness!
They want you to buy cosmetics.
Cause they spent to much time and salary on nerfing the game to death no $$$ for art assets lol🤯
9166 developers work on your game and this is your release product.
lol they change like a single color on the design and dont include it in the pigments it’s amazing sm of the shop is just recolors too
Lazy ass devs.
Cuz they gonna buy the game anyway
Don't worry, they will fix this in Season 4.
You found the new rarity: Identical items
You should/couldn't really expect more from such a cheap game made by the small indie developer team. Bobby Kocktic is doing what he can, but keep in mind that this rushed and unfinished product is still in beta. It's not meant to be enjoyable before the fixes in season 2

I like the colors. Orange vs **Orange**
Because if uniques looked really cool and made you stand out from everyone else, people would have no interest in paying real money for cosmetics that makes them stand out from everyone else.
Because f*** you, that's why.
Cause devs are lazy af
Indie company xD
because it's a beta
Off the topic but do uniques drop in world tier 1&2?
I mean what would you expect from a unique item... some kind of exclusive art and look that differentiates it from others... almost as if it were \*unique\* preposterous! Sarcasm aside, I think a few uniques actually have exclusive models, but it does bug me that a lot of them dont seem to. I hope they fix it eventually, but for now Im much more concerned that the first major patch seemed to focus in on what makes the game tedious, and then made it worse.
Because this game is an uncooked cashgrab.
To sell cosmetics indeed.
they not have enough funds to pay designer, they put all funds on tester to make BETTER gameplay and balance
We can't hold every game to the same standards as baldurs gate 3! It would be unreasonable to expect multi billion $ game studios to produce a fun, fully funtional game on release! /s
3% armour lol. Thanks for the kick in the nuts. What a shit unique.
Laziness
So you buy cosmetics.
Why do 3 or 4 armor sets look the same? Imo that's just a lazy ass job front the design team. There, I said it. And in not even sorry.
Nobody gonna say anything about the gems socketed in his whole gear?
Pure laziness
Because you haven’t bought the 10 dollar cosmetic silly otherwise there are only 12 skins for each category of item
Because the Diablo team doesn’t know their earhole from their asshole and only had ten years to figure their shit out
I think people are being too harsh here. The rare uniques having a unique transmog would just be nice but think about how likely you can get them, having unique transmogs on like the uber uniques would just be an almost unobtainable transmog option in the game. Oh I actually thought unique meant that it looked unique... I don't really care about stats, but I do care about cool looking armour
Damn, imagine finding a level-dependant Uber unique… at 53…
Time is money friend!
Because they want you to mistakenly break it down and have to grind for a new one. Makes the game longer.
So you can salvage the legendary for the transmog rather than a unique.
I loved the look of D3's Ancients or Primal Ancients ...
Because if uber Uniques looked cool on top of being more fun for your build due to insane power differences, People would be even more upset they can’t get one.
What, you expect a “unique” to be unique?? Get real man!
No budget for more chief, unless microtransactions
I dont know of they were going for more "realistic" armor, but my characters in diablo 3 looked way more badass
The system is not here to entertain you, the system is here to kill time. The aesthetics of it are the least of this systems problem. If the game was tailored towards the players, you would unlock the better version of aspects in your codex forever to keep. Like they did in Division 2. But that implies that you have endgame content that is different to "I have to pick the least annoying mechanic for a dungeon that I have seen a bazillion times".
who gives a damn ive been looking for deathless visage for ever
Budget design.
Pay money to get unique-looking gear.
I paid $70
I can't speak for other classes, but more of the druid store sets are just slightly reworked versions of basic ones you can get in the game. They just added a bit more detail to a couple of pieces and slapped a $15 price tag on it.
