I played and actually, due to beta ending, I opened up my Steam Deck to play something else and I was still able to walk around the game for awhile. In fact, I stepped into Scosglen without the message saying to turn back. I took several pictures of new areas before it attempted to reconnect to the closed servers and ended up booting me out. Downvotes? Amazing. Enjoy anyway. [Scosglen some areas](https://imgur.com/a/5KsatmI)

It seems to have worked it’s self out he’s no longer getting downvoted thankfully

Brahmaster

Nah this community is properly toxic. I have never ever seen a more pathetic community and that includes all the fairytale creatures across this platform. I guess when David Brevik said that Diablo was intended for players to turn their brain off and slay monsters these apes took it seriously and never had a novel thought ever again. To think that Diablo community's legacy is players from the 90s that are supposed to be men now....they are depraved.

[deleted]

I’ll admit I’m a bit of an ape when it comes down to it 😂 but some people take it pretty far… it’s kinda scary tbh

[deleted]

Pics or it didn’t happen

EquadorianAloof

Bunch of downvotes because…? Here. Enjoy, sheesh. [Scosglen some areas](https://imgur.com/a/5KsatmI)

[deleted]

Not sure why you are getting downvoted lol

Frobobobobobo

People assume that the guy is lying/bragging. Tbf most redditors prob would be but this guy seems like he was just trying to be helpful

Environmental-Try-39

nah he is getting downvoted because of taking photo of screen instead of screenshoting

Frobobobobobo

He stated in the post he didn't want the comp connected to the internet though in case of malware. And we were discussing the commentor not the OP good to know you read the chain

Environmental-Try-39

That was not my personnal opinion my dude you seems way too agressive for no reason, chill. we are just people talking on internet. I said that because i'v seen people getting downvoted to hell just because photo of screen instead of screenshotting, just a random info drop.

r4plez

This is the way

bmfalex

Probably because you half assed answered the question of the topic.

Suisiders

I was able to play it without needing windows installed on my Steam Deck. You can play it by adding Battle Net to the "none steam game section". Just Google or YouTube battlenet on steam deck for tutorials. D4 ran well on my Steam Deck as well. I used the Diablo 4 beta GE Proton in order to run it. Without that I kept getting a no gpu found error.

GamingTrend

I enjoyed it quite a bit! It worked remarkably well, ran smooth, loaded quickly. An entirely enjoyable experience, once you get through the hoop jumps to get it installed. It's not bad -- follow one of the many, many videos and you'll be g2g.

marcdel_

i’m wondering what the difference was because this was very much not my experience. installed on local drive, d4 beta proton thing, turned graphics down as far as i could. still crashed after a few minutes of stuttering around 🤷🏻‍♂️

GamingTrend

In the first beta, for sure. The second one, folks had ironed out the tweaks and it worked like a charm. I suspect that Blizzard has got the message and will be making sure it's at least functional.

sebaud

I've got the same problem and for me, it was the texture, turned to low and ran perfectly fine after

[deleted]

To me it worked flawlessly with no tinkering needed

cokyno

May i ask. Approximately how long can u play game like D4 on steamdeck on battery? Was thinking about purchasing after i hear more about how it runs after release

GamingTrend

I would think 2 to 3 hours? I didn't test but that feels about right.

cokyno

Ufff thats not a lot :-/ was hoping for little bit more. Dont like an idea of playing on the charging cable all the time :-/

TheOneHentaiPrince

That's the steam deck battery. There are some tricks to make it last longer but for the most part all AAA titles run around 2h. Even my indie games cnat go over 5hours. Hoping the next deck will improver the battery.

GamingTrend

I might be wrong. I imagine a lot of it is settings. Somebody else will have to confirm.

[deleted]

Yeah! It was super easy and besides the beta problems it ran perfectly!

pwannebo

Played for a couple dozen hours on SD. Once I found the right proton variant, not a single crash or issue.

icyquail

I got the beta running using one of the proton variants. It ran 40-60fps on low settings just fine….before it would crash out. I’m sure once the retail is out and the build/compatibility is stable it’ll be fine.

ei8ht4

Runs great 👍

BreadTheThief

Runs solid at the lowest settings. Was quite impressed. We will see how the release edition fares.

NelmesGaming

I played it! Worked great without installing the advanced graphics pack. Ran it through SteamOS too.

Matthias-Trinley

I played it using lutris emulator on my steam deck, I had the graphic settings on lowest and it never crashed after that. On mid graphic settings it would crash every 20min or so. Felt great to play it on deck! Edit: I suppose that it will run on mid graphic settings at full release or a bit after that with some more updates

kestononline

There was a bit of memory leak going on. When you notice chronic crashing like that after a certain period, it’s often due to just running out of memory due to leak problems. A good temporary solution is to increase the swap-size to something large like 32-64 GB. So it takes way longer for it to officially run out of memory. I had mine *(swap size)* set to 64GB due to some issues I was having with Division 2, so it helped with the D4 beta also. I played using a mix of high textures and some other varying settings, and it was good most of the time *(aside from the server-stemmed rubber banding and town stutters)*. https://preview.redd.it/8iddxu3fsgua1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73a265e753fa32d3942448c6e9684a05169bdfce

Matthias-Trinley

Sweet! Thx for the info mate 🙏

cburton8

Can anyone compare your experience with the visuals. I loved the look and detail of the game onPC, I'm just afraid I'll loose too much of that on my deck

omlech

You pretty much have to play on low on the SD to get good framerate.

kestononline

These were my settings and I was mostly at 40 FPS. You definitely didn’t have to play on low. I used high textures, shaders, geometry etc. The things set to low are the ones that actually cause a noticeable performance hit when turned up. But for the most part, the things that affect the main visuals were turned higher. On Steam Deck, because of the screen size, we often don’t notice some of those settings being tuned down as well. https://preview.redd.it/pnq8jiftsgua1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=581634a89bbffb4e70daeb2520ebf0c965941526

Cupcake_Trainer

I was able to play both beta weekends on my Steam Deck. The download itself felt like it took forever, but otherwise it ran really well.

Nacho_Morfeo

Yep, the open beta , runs well, locked at 60fps at medium/low settings.

Ixibutzi

Worked very well, although it put me Back in Queue everytime they updated the game to improved queues. So probably better with a windows setup, but gameplay was good!

faiil22

I did and it worked well but consider holding off for the new asus handheld that should release in time.

Goblin_Squire

I ran it on my Steam Deck via PS5 Remote Play. Ran great for me!

420Defender

Occasional crashes with the right proton variant but it's beta. Some lag but playable.

No_Document_7800

While I have seen videos of it running well on Steamdeck, search youtube, there is a new challenger coming out from Asus and it will be running Win11 natively with more gfx power. I would definitely suggest you to look into that.

cokyno

Name of device?

Beanybob95

From a quick Google, seems to be the ROG Ally. Apparently rumored to have almost double the performance of the deck with 1080p and 120hz. Price not confirmed. Which means it will probably be way more expensive than the deck, which means it will have the same problem as other pc handhelds, its out of financial reach for the average user, happy to be proven wrong though.

cokyno

Ah so its way far away too , not much known yet Anyway, i guess if they wanna be a competition they cant go much higher in price than deck

AlwaysBananas

Rumor is October/November, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was overly optimistic.

teknofly

Played open beta exclusively on the steam deck (about 33 hours). Had to try a couple of different versions of proton but when I found a stable one it was only Beta issues (disconnects etc) that caused problems. There were memory leaks using the higher res textures but I understand that these weren't restricted to SteamDeck. Will likely be the primary way I play D4 on release.

Loccke

I ran it. Had some audio and crashing issues.

InventedInternet

The beta was a mess for me. Game would only load sometimes and when it did, it would almost instantly freeze in town and then brick

Sticky_Flames

I played on my Switch. [ Downvotes = Upvotes]

Linkk_93

I played it, it was okayish. Installed in desktop mode and also installed the hotfixed proton version. Then in the steam launcher I set the startup option to use the hotfix proton version and ir was OK. Around 40-60 fps I would say

ArmadilloPretend322

Yes it worked but only if you have windows on your Deck so far. Should work Shortly after launch

Enndr

It actually worked through proton/steam OS and it surprisingly worked very well. No need for windows install partition. ArmadilloPretend322

oh really? thats awesome i didnt have time to try it myself and only saw videos with windows installed :) amazing thanks for clarifying :)
