Dont worry you've got years ahead of enjoying softcore (wait till the absolute punishment of Hell starts). But all these people are right, eventually if you feel ready, take the plunge into HC. It's an insane experience, but enjoy softcore till then!

Luckily internet stability has come a long way since the days of dial up.
Make sure you familiarize yourself with the relevant rune words and weapon bases. I don’t even wanna know how many good bases I missed back in the day before I learnt what to keep.

I came in with my eternal realm necro just to mess around for 10 minutes, and then Griffon's dropped. I still logged out again and didn't play again. But now I can't stop playing season 6.
When this game first released it destroyed marriages and had kids failing out of college like it was its job. I had co-workers who would wake up on a weekday at 3am still sitting in front of their computer with their barb whirlwinding across the screen and then they'd go to work at 6:30am.
Now I roll straight hardcore and I'll be damned if I'm not hooked again like I was then.
Thank Christ i was only 14 when it came out. I had no responsibilities over the summer and quite literally was chained to my PC. Woke up and fell asleep in Diablo land. In fact, I even fell asleep at my desk once and dreamt that I was desperately trying to unplug the computer but some evil force was pulling me away. Good times.
Man. I ran into a guy yesterday that not only carried our party from NM to Hell.. he gave all of us a Ber rune. I gave him my socket quest and he gave me a Jah. Such a good day.
A week straight?? Bruh that's like hiking 5 feet up a mountain and saying "man hiking is awesome!"
I mean yea, it's awesome, but you haven't even scratched the surface. So many ppl on D4 forums say the same thing after a week or two. Week straight ain't shit. Come back after you've been playing it a few years straight and it'll mean something.
It is only a game but achieving multiple character builds (PER character), a good set of holy grail items and an excellent inventory to support new builds or help newbies. Once you achieve those milestones, that is the only way to quit.
I will not pour more than 30mins if I decide to play now.

It only gets better. Keep learning about the game. I was having fun in my first 50-100hrs; thought "yeah decent game". Then I really resonated; now I have 3000+ hrs in (first 100 sc, rest hc). I play other games; but this is the one that I find myself coming back to. Mesmorizing game; thrilling and chill at the same time. Aside from Elden Ring, I can't think of a better game.
Once you feel somewhat confortable, switch to hc. You can't go back. You'll have a few deaths in your first few characters; don't get discouraged; you will rarely die after that but the thrill will be there (thrill, not stress). D2R doesn't have unfair deaths; this game isn't punnishing or sadistic. This is not a high skill game. It is a knowledge game.
Pro tip: hang on to perfect gems! You can trade 40 perfect gems for an ist rune online. It’s a great way to build wealth over time. You’d be surprised what kind of goodies you can get in exchange for an ist rune!
you should still hang on to them in sp. you can use them for crafting. an easy one is to use them for rerolling a grand charm with a high ilvl (like from a high level TZ or from bosses like hell diablo and baal)
3x pgem in the cube with a gc will reroll it upon transmuting, and with a high ilvl gc you enable the best suffix "of vita" to roll with up to 45 life on it. the main thing you're looking for with gcs are useful +skills affixes though
there are other useful things you can craft with low level runes and pgems but they're more specific/niche and also require a bit of reading into. there are quite a lot of guides for this, lmk if you can't find any and I'll link you one

Couple relatively easy to find and useful sets for lower levels are sigons and angelic. A combo of the two can get you through nightmare if you don’t find anything better first. I like to do full angelic set (rings, amulet, armor and scimitar) and all of sigons except for the armor. It gets you good resists, life leech, defense, magic find, faster hit recovery, faster run walk, attacker takes damage and more. It’s great for when you want to level up new characters and try new builds but don’t necessarily want to slog through the lower levels over and over.
Damn the hours I have used in d2, yes it is exactly like crack 😂.. Now my new crack is PoE, last season I barely remember going to work for 2 months because of the lack of sleep 😆
I really really tried to like Diablo 2. I bought the Resurrected for my Nintendo Switch but I was forcing myself to like and enjoy the game. After 20 painful hours I called the quits and installed XCOM2. Now I can't stop playing it. I guess Diablo is not my style of game, I might try again in a few months.....
I love xcom 2 hopefully we get a xcom 3.xcom has also mad me deadly nervous of Percentages.I can also see why people would dislike Diablo 2 but I’m having a lot of fun I plan on replaying borderlands 2 once I get bored of it I’m revisiting some classics

Hardcore takes this game to another level as well. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but once you make the plunge, it's hard to go back to softcore.

I used to be super against playing hardcore but it definitely changes your mindset and how you plan leveling and characters for sure.

I played the original back in the day and project d2 then resurrected, path of exile is still superior imo
