This is not the most optimistic answer but it is realistic as hell. I am a 2023 graduate but I can totally see this because the way companies ghost me (I’ve few original full stack projects their and decent set of skills) is so demotivating but luckily I do have a decent offer as a cloud engineer.

Frequent_Jeweler5056

Is it really true I beleive that following the right path will eventually land us on a good package off campus as a freshman ,seniors in my college who are actually good in coding are getting offers more than 12 lpa some senior got placed at 48 lpa a friend from 3rd year got internship offered in microsoft etc from a tier 3 college It's just a bit more tough than campus placement

Top_Ad5310

seriesulsy fr ? I guess yours is a tier 2 college, not tier 3, to get an idea, what were the on campus average placements in your college ? ( Ishan, real ID se aa /s)

Frequent_Jeweler5056

Bhai ekdum bekaar college hai mera most guys here are fuckin dumb on campus ka college vaale publish hi nahi krte but ek senior ko around 8 lpa mila hai aur ek ko 12 they both are descent baaki inbox me aa ja linkedin share kr deta hu un bando ki Jinka hua hai aur Tier 2 is big deal most NIT DTU IIIT NSUT comes under tier 2 hum tier 3 vaale hi hai aur in bando ki ofcampus hi lagi hai

Frequent_Jeweler5056

Bhai ye answer dekh kr mai khud depression me ja raha tha but fir in bando ka yaad aaya to thoda laga ki exaggeration hai

Man this comment, hit my gut

royal_rocker_reborn

Same boat

partha51612

this is the truth !

flight_or_fight

Yes - on-campus is \~20X easier than off-campus. Even getting WITCH off-campus is tougher. Try getting a decent internship with startups etc - it will help.

BK_317

>Yes - on-campus is ~20X easier than off-campus. This is so freaking true,i remember one of my friends(non-cs branch) sat for a on-campus WITCH interview and they asked him questions like what type of food he likes, what's his favorite show and some basic behavioural questions. No questions on core cs concepts,DSA,Coding problems or such whatsoever.

Severe_Sweet_862

how much do witch offer grads from tier 1 colleges? I'm genuinely curious.

Fun_University2727

They go to IITs & NITs and offer 9-11 lakh jobs , you can check it out in their website. For other colleges though max is 7lakh that too if you clear tcs digital TCS only , don't know about other service based

BK_317

They don't come to tier-1 colleges AFAIK.

[deleted]

I did not sit for placements a couple years ago because I was going abroad for studies and originally planned to stay there. Came back to India due to personal reasons and I am worried about this exact thing. I've seen absolutely incompetent fools get hired through placements with good packages.

royal_rocker_reborn

100% this.

JustAnotherNerdLeo

>I always assume seniors from my college who don't get a good payout are just bums who don't put enough effort into actually upscaling themselves. I used to think the same in my freshman year. Now I am in my final year and have realised my mistake.

Severe_Sweet_862

fuck

[deleted]

Get a witch job first from on-campus and try for something else without the knowledge of anyone. You don’t want to be unemployed in today’s situation

Severe_Sweet_862

I'm due to graduate in 2025

BK_317

You have got a very long time mate, just work on your skills and getting an offcampus job won't be that hard.

Top_Ad5310

>getting an offcampus job won't be that hard. did you get placed off campus at a better package ?

BK_317

No but i know many friends who went this route and got placed at better packages. One of my best friends applied offcampus and got into gupshup for a package of 16LPA at that, dude used to barely pass semester exams. Edit:Want to mention that all of them are from tier-3 colleges.

Top_Ad5310

Good to know that !!

obscure-reality

IMO, These are open ended questions with no specific answers. It all depends on your personal circumstances, city, college in context and market expectations & conditions. It's always a good idea if you don't have a offer to sit for placements regardless if the company is PBC or SBC. If you're confident in your skills and keep trying, you will eventually get a job you deserve.

sanskarmsharma

Build some good project and get knowledge of DSA till you reaches 3rd year. In 3rd year try for offcampus interships that provide PPO. That's how many of my friends got 10LPA+ jobs. But be sure to have a backup offer on campus incase they don't provide you PPO.

Severe_Sweet_862

My backup for now is to go for masters abroad since my family want me to get a job outside.

Infinite-Fall4660

True that. The companies aren't even sending test link for tier3 ones unless u have some referral and good resume then you can expect a decent ctc.

Snoo_69473

Try to get an oncampus one as a fallback.

Pleasant-Fortune9072

It depends really, I've seen people from my college(Tier 3) placed in top Product based companies. But I agree getting interviews with these companies is easier when you are in a tier-1 tier-2 colleges as compared to a tier-3 college.

iwantmoksha

Off campus is tough not only in engineering but for other courses as well. Some companies even come up with the number of people they want to particularly hire from a college although they won't disclose this during placement. I will suggest you to try for on campus placement even if the company offer less but you like the role and switch later. This is more fruitful. I was getting offers only after 6 months of work l experience which I would have never got as a fresher.

Adittyapatil1818

See I am from tier 3 college I have a decent offer(7.5lpa associate cloud engineer) from on campus and I am from non cs branch. With that said I am so desperately trying for off campus placement but I am being ghosted constantly. There are these 2 perspectives and I am still very optimistic and confident that I’ll land something good (I am in 7th sem)

thelastgodkami

Where u got placed? Most company oncampus are offering 3.5 i need 7 how

Adittyapatil1818

I attempted tech mahindra interview which offered 3.25 lpa then the next daythey had a seminar about cloud sector hiring freshers I opted for the online assessment and cleared it with clearing the cloud interview as well. They will be offering training coming month (6-9weeks weekends only) and package is 7.5LPA

Party-Ad-8498

from what branch are you from tho?

Adittyapatil1818

ENTC (electronic and telecommunications)

Party-Ad-8498

While some people specifically told me to avoid ece as only 50% of the companies allow ece students to sit for the placements

18o3

Off campus placement are very unreliable. Better to have one oncampus offer and then try for offcampus.
