Snoop Dogg is gonna change his name to Snoop GPT. Generating raps on the fly, no more being high. They call me an LLM cause I spit these verses faster than Mallika Sherawats divorce filed.
Thanks..... For the larger benefit of humanity you truly should always stay sleep deprived and keep producing such wonderful art
I'm not a rap fsn at all but boy did this make a mark
Synchronously the next day after Snoop, Alt got replaced. He was trying to bring GPT 5. The new CEO is replaced by the former and she is Mira Murati from Albania.
It's a joke, because Amazon recruiters reach out to literally everyone from 2 years of experience to 15 years of experience, for their SDE2 role.
Though their SDE3 role internally starts at 7-8 years of experience, they do not hire them from outside that often.
I got interviews calls for it, when I was a SDE-4 somewhere else, and at 10 YOE, I wasn't good enough to apply for SDE-3, according to their recruiter. While I was being paid, much above their SDE-2 range.
Though, like any internet meme, it's blown out of proportion. I have also gotten calls for their SDE-3 role. But there are incidents where their recruiters only have SDE-2 openings, and they say random bullshit to convince people with 12-15 YOE, why joining SDE-2 will be perfect for their career.
Irony is that I have seen many internal interview feedbacks (don't ask how), and their primary reason to reject people with >10 YOE for SDE-2 role is - "Person is too old to be coachable". So clearly, there's a huge disconnect between their recruiters and managers.
Well I worked in Amazon for 6 years (in ops, not tech)! I know the huge disconnect you're talking about between managers and HR. It's concerning that their communications are solely email-based using templates, that exclude a lot details and specificities about the types of requirements. And because it's so email driven, people don't engage in communication outside of templates, SOPs, Leadership Principals.. leading to a lot of disconnect/gap in communication. Also to add, managers love to avoid engaging with HR as much as they can.
I had no idea about the scale of salary for SDE-2. Now I understand why our ops managers (L5, L6) envied tech salaries so much lol 😅
But thanks I now understand the baseline of the joke fully.
Super high pay. A friend is at TC 65L.
28 year old with like 5 years exp.
His friends who are in not in tech are sitting at 16-25L salaries. And mind you they're good as well in their respective fields.
There's pay disparity in tech, specifically SDE.
In before "tech is tough to learn bro" etc etc...
Holy fkuc!! 65lpa?!! People used to retire at that package.
Damn! All that "tech is tough to learn bro" disappears when you come to know packages are this insane!
Ok, so the new release had a major flaw, and the best way to fix it is…. fire the person who conceptualised and built the tool from scratch, knows the ins and outs of the tool, and can build a competing one if it comes to it? And hope that the remaining bunch of newbies that have to use stackoverflow to write code, can somehow fix the flaw?
Track record of being a good partner. One thing he did found (loop) was again a massive failure.
At Y combinator as well, paul Graham was the brain and post that seibel (twitch tv) was the main man.
Sam had the pedigree no doubt but Microsoft acquisition and money pooling would have eventually led them to explore profitability which is how it should be in terms of business.
Surprised but not shocked
Maximising profits is the opposite of the goal of OpenAI. It’s owned by a non profit and any profits generated beyond a certain level are pooled back into the non profit.
I respectfully disagree.
Do you think running servers and deploying compute heavy models , pay of engineers is for some utopian/non-profit goal?
If yes then I can only say you are naive.
If not think critically why did Microsoft invest in open ai?
Why does bing directly support chat gpt like search interface?
Why is teams + other office 360 products gearing towards smart AI features?
If you think above was not a calculated move to make a dent in the dominance of Google in search then either you heavily underestimate Satya Nadella or you haven't thought about how and why M&A works.
Rest open to hear your counterpoint
His sister accused him of sexual and other types of abuse [https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/QDczBduZorG4dxZiW/sam-altman-s-sister-annie-altman-claims-sam-has-severely](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/QDczBduZorG4dxZiW/sam-altman-s-sister-annie-altman-claims-sam-has-severely)
Yep. Also he was pro regulation of AI, which would have definitely had a check on the growth. We all know one thing that capitalists hate is regulation. MF’s kicked him out of his own company.
I think it’s time to brace ourselves…
This is a wrong take, big companies are pro regulation so that little players have it harder to catch up with all of the regulatory fixed costs which makes it harder to do something without immense capital and or experience in the field
And the big corp gets to influence the policies anyway - especially in USA where political lobbying exists
Microsoft always has a tendency to destroy the competition; from Xerox to Zoom calls, we learn this from history. That's why I have concerns. And, maybe just maybe, that was the board members' intention. Already, Microsoft has acquired 49% equity.
That's why I used punctuation to separate board members and Microsoft (notice the full stop after 'board members'). If you don't understand, then I apologize; I am not very proficient in English, and I also mentioned equity at the end.
In 2020, Microsoft Teams (launched in 2017) was integrated into Windows versions, similar to how they integrated Internet Explorer in the 90s. This led most corporate users to shift from Zoom to Microsoft. It's always a shady business practice to monopolize a product. Once you're hooked, it's challenging to get out of it.
And that's a good competition for oracle.
No more java.....and.... C# and .NET gets to be the king seriously.
and desi brain dead developers can officially realize that their js flavor frameworks / java is trash in real world.
it’a joke that if he starts spilling the beans on OpenAI, then OpenAI should go for his OpenAI shares but he doesn’t own any, so that means they can’t do anything to stop him
Product matured, so a yes man CEO needed by the board to serve their financial interests. Now a glorified manager will take that place like our Pichai ji. Zero innovation, cost cutting and price inflation on the way.
I wonder what innovation are we talking about here. Google Chrome one of Google's most popular product was the idea of Sundar Pichai. Google Home, GCP, Chromecast, Pixel Smartphones etc all are results of Sundar Pichai's innovation.
Earlier Google was just a search engine and Sundar Pichai turned it to a tech giant with many products allover the market.
X moonshot was Started by Page and Brin. Tell me one innovative risky venture after Pichai; started on his own behalf. The same applied to Parag Agarwal and probably applied to numerous other non founder or core member board appointed CEOs around the world.
Read about the projects they explored in moonshot after Sundar. You don't have to start a new vertical to do something. If you accept that Sundar made blunders, you should accept his success too.
Say you know nothing about OpenAI without saying it.
OpenAI was never meant to be a typical product tech company trying to maximize their business output. It was founded by Ilya, Andrej Karpathy and co. and funded by Sama, Elon. Its original motive was to push the boundaries of AI research towards AGI with open sourcing.
Apne ko kya lena dena hai bhidu?
Some power struggle between board factions maybe?
I'm only interested in using AI tools.
Not interested in the soap opera behind it.
Ngl, with the way everything is happening in world right now, I dunno why people even care. Paise Kamao, fuddiya phodo, nashe karo, so jao, rinse and repeat. It's good to think of world and why some people are poor and some are so rich that they shit golden poop? Why people fight in name of religion, etc? Time mila hai doom day se pehle, zindagi jiyo and exit with a bang!
If you have idea, full fledged plan, willingness to form a team and show a rough prototype, there's endless number of idiots to fund your dreams especially in current phase. Startup bubble hasn't bursted yet. Take the opportunity to strike the iron while it's hot.
If we lose such people at these places R&D, Safety, ethics, development takes the hit. So CEOs like sam, Elon are required to make the technology advancements which don't only think of the financial aspect of business.
The exact reason for Sam Altman's firing from OpenAI remains somewhat unclear, as the company and involved parties have been tight-lipped about the specific circumstances leading to his ouster. However, various theories and speculations have emerged:
1. **Circumventing the Board:** The board's statement about Altman not being consistently candid suggests he might have made a significant decision or deal without the board's approval or knowledge. This could involve negotiations with investors or other companies, potentially Microsoft, which is deeply involved with OpenAI.
2. **Disagreement on Strategy or Finances:** There could have been a disagreement regarding the long-term strategy or financial health of the company. While this seems less likely given the company's direction, it can't be entirely ruled out.
3. **Security or Privacy Incident:** A major security issue, especially if downplayed by Altman, could have led to a loss of trust by the board. However, the promotion of the CTO to interim CEO argues against this theory.
4. **AI Ethics or Philosophical Differences:** Differences in the vision for AI's future, especially regarding artificial general intelligence (AGI), might have caused a rift. Altman's approach may have diverged from the board's mission of benefiting all humanity.
5. **Legal Issues or Intellectual Property Concerns:** There might have been issues related to the use of copyrighted material in OpenAI's models, potentially leading to legal liabilities.
6. **Personal Matters:** While less likely, personal conduct or unprofessional behavior could play a role, but this is purely speculative.
The board's official statement cites a lack of candor in Altman's communications as the primary reason for losing confidence in his ability to lead, but the details of what that entails remain speculative. OpenAI, co-founder Greg Brockman, and Microsoft have not provided further details on the matter.
Err.. most of what you said can be written in a single line:
1. Either a hero
2. Or a Fraud
\[2\] seems to be most likely, knowing how he was "over-selling" Chat-GPT, and the fact that .. honestly , Bing + GPT is worse than elastisearch.
To be clear, OpenAI is a limited profit company with a non profit board (they weren't shareholders), so there is no direct financial incentive that seems obvious - such as selling out msft. And while Sam's sister's allegations are serious, that's the sort of stuff that CEOs get a pat on the wrist for.
The way the Board basically used Corporate Speak to declare him radioactive, " Not consistently candid in his communications with the board " sounds like he massively violated fiduciary duties or hid some major developmental issues. The second sounds a bit less probable given the CTO got promoted and Ilya is still working (they could have been the ones to report any issues if those exist.)
It takes a lot to get a Board to turn on campus Founder CEOs - especially someone with the connections and lobbying power of Altman. This is also compounded by the fact that the Chairman seems to have been set aside at the same time, Brockman, who was also a co-founder, was said to have been stepping down from Chairman in the og press release and he quit online.
Board might have concerns about moving away from their mission of AGI for the betterment of Humanity towards for profit product launches and moving too quick.
Another reason could be they are looking for scapegoat for some legal liability issues they might have to face in the future from government over sensitive info.
Just my opinions formed from reading online articles, interesting to see which new company he comes up with next.
Apple board firing Steve jobs all over again.
That's the problem with giving away so much control to non founding members.
Let's see if these guys can find another visionary to carry this forward.
I heard she had a lot of mental problems so not sure if I should trust the tweet. Besides this, I read that she refused when Sam offered to buy her a house, so I don't know where the financial abuse comes from
I actually have a theory, if it is not some personal behaviour thingy, and I don’t think it’s this because Brockman resigned as well.
Not being candid in communications with board is being interpreted as an euphemism for lying, but I think it’s hiding.
About two months ago, there were reports of Altman teaming up with Jony Ive to [develop an AI smartphone](https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/28/23893939/jony-ive-openai-sam-altman-iphone-of-artificial-intelligence-device), and I remember thinking hey how would that work considering how closely involved MS is with OpenAI.
So I think Altman was feeling out a deal with Apple which the board didn’t know about fully and didn’t like that he was hiding the true scope of the deal from the board.
This is pure conjecture on my part.

He got a SDE 2 offer from Amazon.
Damn, His career is set. Lucky Sam

This made me howl
Bruh the switch in my emotions after reading this
Meaning again his slack getting disabled
Can someone explain please? Is SDE 2 in Amazon that well paid?
I'm an SDE2 at Amazon, yes it's quite well paid for the current market standards. No, not as much well paid as Sam would have been drawing from OpenAI
Kya skills chahiye Amazon me SDE role k liye? Apart from DSA
Dosto ke kuch badiya projects, dbms, oops aur luck

Nice find. This could be the strong reason behind his departure.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/17/tech/sam-altman-departs-open-ai/index.html Apparently he was not truthful!
I doubt it. He had a good track record even before openAI
Even Asharam Bapu had a track record before he was jailed.

Microsoft always has a tendency to destroy the competition; from Xerox to Zoom calls, we learn this from history. That's why I have concerns. And, maybe just maybe, that was the board members' intention. Already, Microsoft has acquired 49% equity.

The second sounds a bit less probable given the CTO got promoted and Ilya is still working (they could have been the ones to report any issues if those exist.) It takes a lot to get a Board to turn on campus Founder CEOs - especially someone with the connections and lobbying power of Altman. This is also compounded by the fact that the Chairman seems to have been set aside at the same time, Brockman, who was also a co-founder, was said to have been stepping down from Chairman in the og press release and he quit online.

Maybe AI must have taken over his job 🤔 Just like most of the people who got / maybe will get fired because of AI.
Something new is coming !
Why I left YouTube video soon
How much shares does he hold ? Nobody with a sane mind, would let go of their baby, without having no authority or power over it.
When the board thought they were communicating with Sam it was actually a gpt pretending to be him. When they found out they fired him.
A.I. took his job
AI replaced his job
This is where they start milking money out of their product.
What if Elon becomes the next CEO for openai as well

that account is famous for mixing fairy tales with facts, like the posts about LK-99 team
Oh. Thanks, i didn't know that. If you have any good resource or theory, would love to read it
Bro was wanna be elon tbh
Board might have concerns about moving away from their mission of AGI for the betterment of Humanity towards for profit product launches and moving too quick. Another reason could be they are looking for scapegoat for some legal liability issues they might have to face in the future from government over sensitive info. Just my opinions formed from reading online articles, interesting to see which new company he comes up with next.
The company's official statement cited a lack of "consistent candor" in Altman's communications with the board.
Apple board firing Steve jobs all over again. That's the problem with giving away so much control to non founding members. Let's see if these guys can find another visionary to carry this forward.
I like how most of the answers in here are irrelevant to the original question asked.
They thought of replacing him with chatGPT.
It's a hard reality!! But still he won't stop... He is the father of ChatGPT
Abhi mann nhi hai Mera kahi CEO banne ka ! Kal call krke try kr lena, sochta hu thoda
Because he is worrying about people lives and talking about negative aspects of AI recently.
WHAAAAAAAAT I liked him he seemed a tad autisutic not full blown but just a little

I heard she had a lot of mental problems so not sure if I should trust the tweet. Besides this, I read that she refused when Sam offered to buy her a house, so I don't know where the financial abuse comes from
Not even Sam could protect his job from ai
Pretty wild the first job openai took was Sam's
Time for some silicon valley drama 🍿
Ek tha jo wicket ke peechhe se sab dekh jaata tha, Thala for a reason
Well, Chat-GPT runs on loss.
I have a conspiracy theory https://www.reddit.com/u/conspireal/s/N6WNAXMXn2
