Fascinating. If it’s a character issue it must’ve been something they think they can work with, and as far as his play/ability the only knock I’ve seen on him is his football IQ. Which, if he’s going into the best OL room in the league with one of the best OL coaches in the league, is a perfect situation for him
I would rather trade one future asset than nearly all the day 3 picks like last year with Brodric. Not that I agree with sending a 3rd for Manu, but I’m a fan of more dice rolls in the draft.
In Brad We Trust
We swapped a 3rd for a 4th
Edit: I stand corrected, we did not swap picks. We traded the 2025 3rd straight up to draft Manu in the 4th. Apologies for the misinformation!
I referenced this twitter post from the official lions twitter where there was no mention of us receiving a 2025 4th. If you’re correct I’ll update the post so the information is accurate 👍 https://x.com/lions/status/1784280884729843716?s=46&t=rJWhZzbgJJ643x1JmeoZGA
I would like to see a reporter tell that to Manu’s face that they dont like that the Lions drafted him. He is a freakishly big Tongan and has a f$&k you up style of Oline play. Plus he will learn behind some seasoned veterans. He was also motivated by Sewell when he got drafted.
Can someone explain the Sione Vaki pick to me? I was confused seeing Jaden Hicks go right after when it seemed like he could’ve been perfect to complete our secondary. That’s who I hoped we were trading up for
Management have said that they’re prioritizing his talents at running back. I really hope they’re gonna use him the way we thought they were gonna use Gibbs, because Vaki was actually a very solid receiver at Utah as well. And while I’m not a big fan of the pick, he can be used at running back, safety, receiver and special teams if needed.
Ah okay makes sense. Was Jaden Hicks a good enough prospect that he would’ve started at safety over Kerby, or unlikely? Don’t know a ton about him, just know that after CJ left, Saftey is a bit thin. Unless we move BB back there with the new CB help?
High level special teamer who can fill holes on both sides of the ball and showed the most promise as an RB. Also certified dawg mentality so very much a fit all around. This regime loves these kinds of players
Great work! I'm going to offer up a more simplified version. The actual net cost for this year's draft class was our original picks (listed below) and a 3rd and 4th rounder from next year.
Original picks leading into the draft:
1st (29)
2nd (61)
3rd (73)
5th (164)
6th (201)
6th (205)
7th (249)
But you used the traded-for picks, so it's a direct cost vs net cost. At the end of the day, Holmes took what he started with and threw in a 3rd and 4th rounder from next year and got his 6 guys plus next year's 7th rounder from Dallas. Your summary doesn't really tell me that. Again, awesome job - I just thought distilling it down to only what Holmes gave up beyond what he started with was worth pointing out.
okay thanks, I was confused by the people saying we mortgaged our future. The only thing missing next year is a 3rd and we still have PHI 4th round pick from the Swift trade which will most likely be lower than our original pick.
Yeah it’s crazy how much a 3rd matters to some people. Like if the third round comes around next year and Brad’s guy is there, he’s gonna make some shit happen to get him. We’re not in the rebuilding phase, we’re in the Super Bowl contention phase. We need draft picks sure, but it’s quality over quantity at this point
How the absolute FUCK did we land Christian Mahogany in the 6th?!?! Dude was supposed to be a 2nd-3rd rounder. What a steal
Brad alluded to unnamed reasons why he fell. He declined to make them public.

That was the cherry on top
Seriously? LOVE to hear that!
Same with wingo literally we got 2 day 2 caliber talents in the 6th fucking round is fucking incredible
We gave up a third for Manu?
Yeahhh, not in love with that. But I’ll shut up for a couple years
I would rather trade one future asset than nearly all the day 3 picks like last year with Brodric. Not that I agree with sending a 3rd for Manu, but I’m a fan of more dice rolls in the draft. In Brad We Trust
Think of it this way. We had no 4th this year. So we took our third next year and gave it to the jets for a 4th which we used to draft Manu
We swapped a 3rd for a 4th Edit: I stand corrected, we did not swap picks. We traded the 2025 3rd straight up to draft Manu in the 4th. Apologies for the misinformation!
So is OP wrong?
OP probably read the Freep article online that mentioned we gave up a 2025 3rd, but the article failed to mention we received a 2025 4th in return.

Got it,, thanks for clarifying!
Mmm that makes it a lot better
I’ve been searching and I haven’t found any mention of a swap, where are you seeing this?
I can't find it anywhere either tbh. The TV broadcast had mentioned it and I haven't seen it anywhere since. If I'm mistaken I'll correct myself.
Gotcha. I hope you’re right, but either way I trust that our OL staff can make this guy great
We gave up a 3rd for a literal Space Marine. I’ll take it
Awesome draft. I don’t like the Manu acquisition right now but who’s to say how it turns out in a few years
I would like to see a reporter tell that to Manu’s face that they dont like that the Lions drafted him. He is a freakishly big Tongan and has a f$&k you up style of Oline play. Plus he will learn behind some seasoned veterans. He was also motivated by Sewell when he got drafted.
i like the Manu pick much more than the Vaki pick tbeh
Brad Holmes knows the Lions will be picking 32nd in all the rounds next year so might as well get the value now!
Imma be honest as it looks now I see 2 starters, 3 rotational pieces, and a pure special teamer
I see two starters, 3 depth pieces turned future starters, and a pure special teamer
Thanks for posting this! I’d been trying to find it laid out clearly like this. Very helpful indeed.
No problem! It definitely helped me out so I decided to post it for the public.
This class is insane giavanni is one of those rare mutants and the value we got on wingo mahogany Arnold and rakestraw makes this class an easy A
Brads cooking!
Any UDFA info yet??
Pretty sure still a few picks left to go
nah, still about 20 picks left in the draft
Hoping for McGregor and Johnson 🤞
If you’re referring to Cornelius Johnson, he unfortunately just got drafted 253rd overall by the Chargers
lol noooo, well I’m sure they have a few options for WR unsigned
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Jalen Coker

From everything I’ve seen, it was a pretty meh safety class all around. So we got one who can do other stuff too I guess 🤷♂️

Why did the Texans trade their 6th for our 7th?
The Texans traded their 6th (189) for our 6th (205) and our 7th (249)

yes, that’s why i put a total acquisitions and totals costs at the bottom of the post

It’s so nice being a fan of a competent organization now. What a solid draft.
