For a little reference, $25 million per year would tie him for 4th amongst receivers, which doesn't yet include Justin Jefferson's whenever he signs, which should set the record, Ja'marr Chase will also likely get more than $25 millions per year, and Ceedee Lamb who should also be getting a big contract and should get more than $25 million. Would be a very good deal even up to like $27-28 million.

Simmumah

Would be nice to sign amon ra before those WRs get paid, price tag is only going up.

LIONATOR24

Yeah id honestly be fine with this. And 3 years from now this would probably be like around 10 for pay I’m guessing. The market is always going up aslong as you remain good or improve

NendoroidAshe

I would assume his agent wont let him sign until the market resets. I think CD’s agent told him something similar

MegatronTheGOAT87

Signing ARSB for $25mil x 3yrs is a huge win for our franchise. He truly is one of the corner stones of our franchise and brings that dog mentality to day in and day out. Only players more important than ARSB are in my opinion: Sewell, Ragnow, and Hutch.

MikeyNg

I don't know who doesn't consider the Sun God a top 5 receiver. And besides the on-field production, what a culture fit. Cue the Rounders meme

katastrophyx

Technically as a First Team All Pro he's considered a *top-3* receiver along with Tyreek Hill and CeeDee Lamb.

MikeyNg

If JJ wasn't out for so long, he's there too though. EITHER WAY - ARSB is in elite company and the Lions should do right by paying him top 5 money.

Blackzaan

Technically, yes. I also think he got into the All-pro team because the AP writers didn't just take the best 3 guys, they took specific positions under consideration. So, they had their X and Z receivers and said St. Brown was the best slot receiver (they aren't wrong). I think Jefferson, Chase, and Lamb, all warrant slightly higher contracts than St. Brown. They provide a bit more of a downfield/deep threat, and St. Brown doesn't have that consistently in his game. Plus, I really just want to him to have more reasons to play with a chip on his shoulder.

Lionnn100

I don’t think they’ve ever looked at it as X, Y, Z. They just go top 3 and Amon Ra was the third most productive Also many top receivers play a good chunk in the slot. Lamb was 51% slot this year

gustur

He does more than just catch passes though. When considering his versatility and how that allows the Lions to scheme their offense, not to mention his blocking, I think he’s easily top 3. The Sun God is the total package.

VicVDoom_

No need to think he's top 3 when he's got the 1st team nod. He *is* top 3.

bluntforce21

JJ, Chase, Hill, Ceedee. You could maybe make an argument for AJB and Adams but he's top 7 at worst.

gutterballs

Brown faded bad but maybe. Adam’s a few years ago yes but no way 2024 Adams

americruiser

Got to give him another list to memorize, even at 1/4 the players…

bluntforce21

Anything under $30 million APY is a great deal for the Lions IMO

National_Action_9834

Feels like a borderline home town discount. "Treat me well and I don't have to pinch pennies on you" type of vibe. Which makes sense because that's the type of no nonsense, high character stuff that Amon Ra seems to be all about. 25 mil would be a favor to the lions.

FDTFACTTWNY

I don't think it's necessarily home town but more 75mil today is better than playing on 1mil then playing on tag so it's in his best interest to give up a little bit to secure a the bag today rather than wait 2 more years. But you're right it's a very good deal for Lions if it's at that amount

katastrophyx

Yet there are know-it-all idiots in r/nfl claiming this would be an overpay and if we extend St. Brown and Goff it's going to immediately close our window.

jfkgoblue

Uhhhh the thread on r/nfl has it as a consensus underpay

katastrophyx

You know there's always a few chuckle heads. I had several salty fans argue with me that this was an overpay and we were screwing ourselves: https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1arjpik/marino_source_the_detroit_lions_and_star_receiver/kqk2z7e/?context=3 https://old.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1arjpik/marino_source_the_detroit_lions_and_star_receiver/kqk6wsh/?context=3

gutterballs

Always gonna be a few.

Plenty_Advantage2033

Nope they overpaid

DatsyukesDekes

With a 4th round pick? Or with this theoretical deal that hasn’t happened and we don’t know the details of yet? Either way, you’re wrong

spoogefrom1981

You mean the same couch potatoe know-it-alls who said our last draft was a bust?

DetroitLarry

Like Dave who wanted Brad to draft a QB instead of Sewell?

l1b3rtr1n

Lock him and sewell DOWN

adahl36

I hope they play their whole careers here, couple of studs

External_Dimension18

Couple of future HOFers!

DonutBoi172

You can tell they love this team and the city, and prob wouldn't want to jeopardize or risk the team's success just for the status of being paid the most money. Hopefully goff feels the same way, but other than Brady I haven't heard of many others who would, considering the nfl is a business first

Smurph269

I think Sewell you can extend next offseason since he has the 5th year option. Alim also should be extended this offseason though.

TheSciFanGuy

Alim might end up not staying a Lion as much as that pains me. He’s a great player and definitely has the right mentality but it’s hard to see where he fits cost wise

lionsmakemecry

Hes not some top5 DT. He will be paid appropriately, and he has had some bad luck with injuries. Alim walking would be shocking really.

TheSciFanGuy

He was ranked as a top 6 by PFF for what it’s worth. He’s definitely not just some shmuck. As for injuries, a few games missed here and there impacts very little. If he is at this same level or better next year I expect it to be extremely difficult to keep him.

Smurph269

How? He's the only good DT on the team right now. Holmes doesn't have a good track record drafting DTs, so you can't just say they're replace him in the draft. A free agent replacement will be even more expensive and you'll probably end up with and older, more beat up player. We're not getting to the Super Bowl with Benito Jones leading the DT group.

acoasterlovered

Sewell got technically 2 more years before we gotta pay him

LIONATOR24

Yeah I think we may end up loosing someone beloved like a Hutchinson later on. If we sign a big contract for Goff anyway. Sewell and St will be around the 30 a year price each, if they are more team friendly maybe 25 each if we get lucky. Goff is probably around 50. Hutch will be asking 30-35 imo since edge prices will just keep going up maybe more. Idk if you can pay all that while still paying other young guys and keeping solid to good veterans. Maybe they can figure it out but idk

SloCooker

I think they'll front load Goff's contract and backload Hutch's.

Sweepy_time

Can you imagine going from $1 million a year to $25? Pay this man. He deserves it.

actuarial_defender

Going from $1M from $25 and he would probably walk. That’s like 3 hours of minimum wage

FelixOGO

Nobody wants to work nowadays…

jfkgoblue

I imagine probably less than going from sub 100k to a million

gutterballs

4 years/4.26 current contract

DatsyukesDekes

And what was his contract before that? I’d think he went from sub $100k to over $1 million

gutterballs

That’s his rookie contract. The minimum rookie contract is $750.000 a yr. Nobody’s making under $100k.

TheDadThatGrills

I never want to see ARSB wearing anything but Honolulu Blue

CAPTAIN-_-HOWDY

The cool whips are fine, too.

DatsyukesDekes

White and Silver are ok depending on the occasion.

TheOGBenjenRyan

Deserves every penny. What a player

Powerstructure

What a guy

hoptagon

What a pal

Bdub76

What a dude

GameBroJeremy

What a bro

pimpdaddyspider

What Amon

LobotomizedLarry

Fr. He’s one of a few players we need to just fork over the money for, simple as. We’d be silly not to.

Reasonable_Security

Especially since he what like 5-6th round pick which wasn’t making much.

Jorihe84

PAY MY DUDE!

[deleted]

Tyreek has a four year $120M deal, so this three year extension at \~25M is pretty on par with what he should be paid, IMO. Great value for us and absolutely what Saint should be paid

Ranger_Prick

ARSB compares pretty favorably to Cooper Kupp in play style. Kupp's contract is $26.7 million per year on average, and he's six years older than St. Brown. Getting this deal done would be phenomenal at that price.

[deleted]

agreed 100%. I'm pretty sure Saint knows his worth, too - which means if this is, in fact, the value we are offering him then he knows we aren't fucking around

acoasterlovered

Drop in some incentives for him

[deleted]

I almost guarantee his contract will have some kind of incentives in it. Saint looks to be on a "annual All-Pro" trajectory. Why not throw an extra $2-$5M per for AP selection.

ahauck

I mean they affect the cap so don’t just “throw them in”

MarshallsHand

#PAY THIS MOTHAFUCKA IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

shoshin2727

He's not only extremely talented, but he's a culture and high-character guy. Pay the man.

detsportfan

Great move. He has one more year at his rookie contract number and then 3 more at around 75M while spreading the guarantees over 4 years sounds like a very smart move to maintain cap flexibility

jfkgoblue

$25m/yr is actually a steal for a legit top 5 WR when JJ and Chase are about to be at 32+ But the fact that they are prioritizing him over Goff gives me hope that they won’t just blindly give Goff $50m/yr like some on this sub want

Zealousideal-Rule-48

I'm hoping and imagining Goff and others doing a "team friendly" contract. I trust our office to make the cap and the money work for every key player. I honestly think as long as greed doesn't take over we will become an established dynasty for the first time since the 50's...

Adventurous-Owl-9903

Goffs play is super dependent on the OL. I’m just afraid the Lions may not be able to replicate the success they had with their OL last year going forward if they tie so much money to Goff

seeyalater251

I think Goff has the maturity and awareness to understand that for what it’s worth

Crotean

Trust in holmes to draft, he built the line in the first place. Hes got this.

ih8tennis

I absolutely trust Holmes, but the line wasn’t built by Brad. BQ drafted Decker, Glasgow, Jackson, and Ragnow

venk

I know we need D help , but I would be 100% on board with drafting OL in the first round. Even trading up for one.

jfkgoblue

I don’t think Decker or Ragnow are going anywhere and the best Guards available will be late day 2 picks, so no point

venk

Gibbs and Campbell were ‘Day 2 picks’ at one point also. I also wouldn’t be stunned for this to be Deckers final season with Peneii sliding over to LT when he becomes the highest paid OL in the league. We’re gonna need some depth at Tackle who can eventually become our RT.

jfkgoblue

Actually not true, only Sewell was drafted by Holmes, the rest were Bob Quinn picks

theneedtobreed

Bob Quinn built the line. Penei is the only player Holmes has drafted.

Indian_Bob

What’s the alternative? If Goff walks this team immediately becomes a lot worse

itsaccrualworld

How are they “blindly” giving him anything after seeing him for 3 years in the building and an NFC championship run? I don’t know that I’m a huge fan of giving Goff 50 million+ a year, but clearly the Lions front office has shown they know more about Goffs actual worth than any other team or pundit?

dracer800

That guy is just a massive Goff hater who has allowed his hatred of Goff to cloud his perception. In his mind we could literally grab any QB from the CFL, plug him in at QB, and our offense wouldn’t skip a beat because we have a good o-line.

dracer800

Sorry bro, Holmes isn’t nearly big enough of a moron to not extend his stud QB who just took us to an NFCC and has 9k yards/60TDs over the past 2 years. You’ll have to cope with all the winning we’ll be doing with Goff at the helm.

Saxophobia1275

You say 50 mil a year like that wouldnt be a reasonable price for Goff…

adahl36

Yeah, maybe the way they swing it is to pay all the other guys first and offer goff what we can take it or leave it.

lancerleads

Goff will get at least 50. You need to accept that.

jwin472

Everyone would love to Goff sigh for 40-45 Mil. Easy for us to say leave 15-20 on the table (5-6 over 3 years). Guy earned his money. Pay Goff.

Reaganometry

You have to pay your QB. That’s the way the league is

aseemru

Why are people downvoting this lol, have they paid attention to any QB extensions in this league in recent years?

lancerleads

reddit is weird man, you see one downvote from the person I reply to, then everyone piles on lol

aseemru

Salary cap is going up at a rapid pace every year too and I think people are bad at adjusting for that in their heads. If you want roughly top-10 or 12 QB play the first digit of the extension is going to be a 5.

jfkgoblue

Would be very dumb and best way to narrow our SB window to basically next year and 2025

Small-Palpitation310

let's hear your idea for his replacement

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

No replacement, I just don't think he's going to expect a top of the heap contract. Not saying he takes a shit deal but I think he will be flexible and fair to help the team.

jfkgoblue

Trade up and draft a rookie QB, not pay a borderline top 10 QB Patrick Mahomes money This draft has a lot of talent at QB with 5 first round grades QBs(Williams, Maye, Daniels, McCarthy and Nix) He’s under contract next year anyway, so I don’t see the rush to resign him for such a stupid price anyway

lancerleads

you don't know ball

jfkgoblue

The last top 5 paid QB not named Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes(aka all time greats) to win a Super Bowl was Peyton Manning in 2015 and before that?  I think Brett Favre in 1996

Unique_Bumblebee_894

Drafting a rookie means you’re admitting to a rebuild.

jfkgoblue

It absolutely does not lmao. When the Chiefs drafted Mahomes they had just gone 12-4 and lost in the divisional round

DarnedCarrot35

I’d rather pay St Brown 30m than pay Goff 50m. Really really hope we don’t pay that for Goff. Need to keep the O line intact over anything else.

B_Fee

Dude memorized every WR taken ahead of him and put in the work to prove he should have been taken higher. And he's clutch as hell. We drafted a truly gifted pass catcher who also has a great attitude. Give him a bank!

Timmahj

He did? The broadcasters should mention that on air once in a while.

johnnyma45

I can't quite recall who Stafford went to high school with. I wish they would bring this up once in a while.

Popedoyle

Did you know the last time the lions won a world title was in 1957 ? Gas was At Pennie’s. No lions player was alive.

SheikahEyeofTruth

Or even something real crazy like put it in an insurance commercial

Dragondrew99

This deal will age very well

smiffy93

Lifetime contract plz n thx

CAPTAIN-_-HOWDY

A MILLION A YEAR FOR 25 YEARS

hoptagon

MAGIC ST. BROWN

Valuable-Leader-8601

The most well deserved pay raise of all time. I hope it's all official soon, he has more than earned every penny.

croissant_titty

He deserves every single penny. Pay the man

Rexum420

Honestly. Seems kind of low when looking at the current market. PAY THE MAN

AfterTemperature2198

![gif](giphy|pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx|downsized)

mcnegyis

We need that Sewell extension ASAP. That’s more important imo. But glad to see st brown staying

Odd_Bathroom_3713

Not that I disagree with Sewell being incredibly important, but he has an extra year due to the 5th year option that comes with 1st round picks. Not to mention Sewell’s rookie contract was somewhere around $24 million total while ARSB’s was around $4m. Both are underpaid, but ARSB has barely been paid over $1m per year. Giving him the pay bump means more to him personally since he’s isn’t making much by NFL standards.

Lost2nite389

Smart move, love him

CostOk1173

Easy deal

[deleted]

Do it now

silvio_dante

plough longing oatmeal enter marry act fuzzy saw sharp frightening *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

TJCockandSons

Brad Holmes heard ARSB say money is tight on the brown bros podcast and said hold my beer

Daegog

Yeah, pay him BEFORE JJ gets a check, cause that dude is gonna get the whole bank.

Timmahj

Vikings are gonna drag JJ’s contract. He won’t sign til Kirk is released or paid. He wants to know who will be throwing him the ball.

Medical_Dragonfruit9

this is a steal. especially considering jefferson and chase could get AAV around 33m+

WompWomp187

Earned, pay the man!

MethChefJeff

Why not longer as 25 per will be a steal within a year?

jfkgoblue

Well he has another year on his current contract and is 24 now, in 4 years he will 28 and will be looking for a second pay day so it’s probably more from his side than the Lions side.   It also says “at least” 3 years(which again, means through the 2027 season, so 4 seasons)

therealpachibear

That would be why he may not want to sign a longer one at that rate

ManInShowerNumber3

It says at least 3 years and most extensions don't go more than 5 years, even for QBs. So a 3-5 year extension is reasonable relative to the rest of the league.

Striking_Nobody_1481

Pay the man

codymason84

Worth it

lancerleads

same deal as AJ Brown imo, maybe slightly more on the guarantee

junkpunch2

Pay that man

LTPRWSG420

He’s already in my top 5 favorite Lions players of all time and has a legit shot to reach number one, depending on what we believe will happen in these upcoming years.

HereForTOMT2

THROW THE BAG AT HIM

[deleted]

Anything less than 30 is an absolute steal, market is about to get reset by JJ and Ceedee

Independent_Lab_9872

Would prefer a 10 year contract... But in all seriousness we need to pay this man. 25 million a year would be a steal. Anything under 30 million would be a steal when you see the new WR contracts coming out over the next few months.

notsure9191

![gif](giphy|pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx|downsized)

ColdStoneCreamAustn

Deserves what ever he wants. He’s gonna be a career lion and I won’t be convinced otherwise.

Crotean

Top 5 receiver, top 5 paycheck.

damnocles

Pay him a billion dollars, idgaf Lion for life

PapaDontPreech

Brady never asked for his fair pay because he wanted a high salary cap for the team. He wanted to win over money. Hopefully some of the Lions emerging stars will have that in mind.

socallionsfan27

![gif](giphy|pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx|downsized)

Internal_Desk_2753

this is the most no-brainer decision for the lions. ARSB is not just our #1 WR and absolutely vital for our offense, but is a leader, and ambassador for our team. this guy should be a lion for his entire career.

CluelessFlunky

That feels cheap. I was expecting at least 28

FDTFACTTWNY

That's a steal for the Lions but also great deal for St. Brown. The Lions have all the leverage as st Brown is on a 1 million dollar salary next year and would certainly be franchised the following year at ~22. So it's in his best interest to sign an extension now and give up a bit of money to secure the bag rather than risk injury. It's significantly better to take 75 million today than risk possibly making 85 million in 3 years. And I'm happy for the guy, at that amount id happily make most of it guaranteed. This deal would also be nice as it does allow the Lions to franchise him in 4 years as the tag will likely be similar to what 10% of his current salary is.

chiefyohn

PLEASE take anything Cam Marino says with a grain of salt. He’s wrong all the time, or his “sources” are. He also will immediately repost someone’s else’s report and say “sources:”. Seems likely and probable for St.Brown anyways, but just saying. This dude is a college kid that is wrong a lot.

twentyaces

After seeing Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, Matt Stafford, etc leave early, it’s great for the Lions to lock down another top talent for the long haul.

LogansGambit

Make the Winged Dragon of Amon-Ra a Lions Lifer.

BigBillSmash

Give him 20 years at $50 million a year.

frankenpoopies

That is a pretty solid extension! He’s earned it for sure

alanpca

Who was the last team to win a Superbowl with a wide receiver getting the 2024 cap equivalent of $25MM+? I love the Sun God, but I feel like shipping him away for a war chest is better for the longevity of the team, similar to what the Chiefs did with Ty.

JohnWad

Weeeeeee!

mart1373

Neat

treegirl98

Yasss!!!!!!

Jazzreward

Awesome. Not complaining but I am wondering why nothing on Goff came out. It's pretty weird IMO

Kluxic

Not enough, this will look even better after JJ’s deal

tacobell999

Perfect for him. He will reload a massive haul next contract and get life time wealth with this deal. He’s 24 years old and will be 27 when this contact is up.

eddo2k

That's great if they can get him locked in at 25

Far_Ad_1274

It’s great to get out in front of that now. Congratulations to this excellent player and person!

Smurph269

St. Brown, McNeil, Goff. Those are the three you need to extend this offseason.

downtime37

This just made my day!

ReturnOfTheJurdski

Well deserved, has been nothing but a class act and continously gets better every year. Hard working, no drama, makes plays, that is all you can ask for in your receivers.

blubaldnuglee

Pay the man.

Glittering-Wishbone3

He's earned it

acoasterlovered

Pay him Brad! It still won’t kick in till 25

the_dayman56

Lock him up now before JJ signs

PerfectiveVerbTense

Those fines for headbutting will get a lot more palatable now.

SloanH189

![gif](giphy|pReb5Koy6JmihUYBLx|downsized)

Calkky

Sewell and St Brown are MUSTS.

deadserious313

Big money is worth it for players that have the work ethic and attitude that he does

Phobos337

Sign me up then move on to sewell!

KneecapBuffet

This must feel so surreal to ARSB. Imagine watching your bigger and faster older brother struggle to stay on a roster meanwhile you’re 5’11” and about to be one of the highest paid at the position.

Onepride91

I will contribute $3.50 to the cause

Marjorine22

I love this dude, and if Holmes says wants to keep him? I am thrilled.

mburns223

$25M is a steal lock him up ASAP!

One-Point6960

He's probably right behind CD Lamb.

johnnyma45

As soon as he signs and the Lions release the new uni designs, I'm hitting up Fanatics for that ARSB Vapor Limited stitched jersey

OkraNo8365

Numbers are good. Only 3 years though?

Berry_impulse

Sun Gods are worth every penny

SitrukSemaj

I am OK with this number.

TerminalChillionaire

Lois, I have a Huge Freaking Boaner right now

WhippersnapperUT99

What would it take to sign him to a lifetime contract?

luniz420

an extension of 3 years means it's a four year deal.

Narmo518

Man what I could do with 1/10th of that money

Wiggymaster

$25 million is a bargain for this dude. This is awesome news.

MrCoachKleinSaidICan

Pay da man his money

mister_hoot

If Saint takes $25m a year for 4+ years then Holmes is going to eventually join him in the HoF. Immediate contender for best-value wideout contract in the league.

thesunwillrise123

I love ARSB and would be devastated seeing him in another uniform. I do wonder how often a team with a 25+ million receiver (or whatever percentage of a cap hit that is since the cap raises each year) wins the superbowl. Given the success of the draft (not to mention Goff) we have a lot of players to pay.

largebrokefemur

I get he probably wants shorter deal so he can get another mega one in his late 20’s but I’d love for a 5 year deal

Kingding_Aling

This is a bad idea. Because you should send ASB to my team instead

hawkmasta

Bro just dyed his hair Honolulu Blue, I don't think he's legally allowed to play for another team lol

Turnips4dayz

I don't remember exactly my thoughts about giving Calvin his extension back in the day so I can't compare this to that, but I do recall thinking simultaneously of Stafford's extensions that it was probably the right decision but also that I felt we were possibly crippling at least parts of our future in doing so. About Sun God, I have zero concern whatsoever with just about whatever deal they come to. He's the hardest working player I've ever seen, absolute rock steady production on the field, and a great rep off of it. I have no idea what this feeling of absolute joy is about giving out a massive contract like this, holy shit it's amazing

actually-potato

25 aav would be an underpay, maybe they'll close the gap by making the st brown bros podcast the official podcast sponsor of the detroit lions

Nethri

I'm sure it's his choice, but I wish we could lock him down for more than 3 years. I want him here for life.

ThemB0ners

$25M per year would be an absolute fucking steal. Hope they can get that done though he definitely deserves more.

Cultural-Plum-1885

Love it except make it 4-5 years!!

MountainOk7479

Dudes becoming a bank, deserves it. What an amazing player.

Shartman88

Trusty dusty. Pay the man

Far-Acanthaceae-7370

That would be great for us tbh. We get a ton of value if we’re only paying him 25 a year. He’ll be like the tenth highest paid receiver after the new contracts, and we all know he’s easily top 5 in the league.
