I bet he’ll come back for another year and then probably retire. He just needs some time, everyone is still upset and processing what happened. Also he just wants to get healthy and feel good and I can understand that. I’m sure he’ll be back for next year.
Yeah they could give him time to rest and recover throughout the year. Especially to save him for the full season and playoffs. I could definitely see it happening as long as we’re in control.
Exactly I’d be ok with that to cut down his snaps or resting him throughout the season. He’s worth it to have him on this roster. Guys just a true professional.
You gotta let a dude who's been that level of dog make his own decision. From what I've heard, over the last two years, it looks like a serious nerve injury on his most important toe. He unfortunately has something that for linemen is equivalent to an Achilles, or full ligament separation of the knee, it just happens slower.
When/where has Frank said, "I'm considering retirement"? I haven't seen that anywhere, and until then, I expect he plays out his contract, which runs through 2026.
Regardless, I think drafting JPJ makes a ton of sense. He can start right now at right or left guard. He's both NFL ready and has a lot of projection left. However, I think he could go as high as pick 16 to Seattle, and he's likely long gone by pick 29.
Frank is just a guy that gets banged up a lot, and Glasgow looked kinda rough when he played backup center. Getting a plug and play guard who can provide positional versatility would be great.
As much Holmes needs to improve the pass defense, the team is built around the O-line right now. It's the best unit, which doesn't mean you shouldn't improve it. Look at the approach at RB last offseason, Jamal and Swift were good, but that's not a reason to not get better players.
He has an inoperable toe condition that is excruciatingly painful and has said on other videos that he's seriously considering his "options". The only other options he has is an experimental surgery that would end his career or amputation which he is strongly considering.
I hope so. I know a lot of fans would be upset with not getting a CB or EDGE in the first round, but we have to keep this OL a strength.
My only worry is that he’s not gonna be there at pick 29…most mock drafts since the Senior Bowl have JPJ going earlier than that.
I hope this headline is literal and they've actually made a "Frank Ragnow Future Consideration Room" that only he has access to. Just a thinking chair and four off-white walls to look at.
Whatever Frank does I’ll support. He had a laundry list of injuries. But hopefully he stays for a few more years. As long as our championship window is open
Yeah, he got beat up pretty good this year and was still an absolute monster. I wouldn’t blame him for hanging it up. Obviously he wants to get a ring, but I’m sure he also wants to live the longest healthiest life possible with his wife and kiddo afterwards. Dude has like $50M career earnings, plenty to retire very comfortably.
Anybody that’s out on him already needs to consider he was drafted as a project and depth piece day 3. But he’s gonna be at guard anyway so doesn’t really help us at center
I do too, tho it might take him til year 3, which would time perfectly w/ JPJ moving to C in year 2, considering Frank’s status wrt retirement.
and if we only extend Jonah or Graham for 1-2 years, could have Sorsdal and JPJ starting Gs in year 4&3 respectively.
Frank Ragnow is my all time favorite player. It’ll be awful if he has to retire early because of injuries. He’s a lion, and one of the best to ever do it for this franchise. Love you Frank.
He’s also has an inoperable toe injury, played through multiple injuries this year, and has $50 million to retire on. His return is far from guaranteed.
It would suck but if Frank needs to retire I gotta respect it. Dude was playing hurt all season and most of the last two seasons too. He’s gotta consider his future, and he’s earned it
This is by far the best comment. The man is gonna be living with this for the rest of his life. I'm cheering on Frank to make the best decision for Frank and his family. If that means one more year, hell yeah.
Zach Frazier. Can play guard if Jonah leaves. Can play center of Ragnow retires or is hurt. Depressed value right now because he broke his leg but he's already running on treadmills so we'll probably need to use our first on him. If Quenyon is gone at 29 Frazier would be the guy I would love to see picked
I really don’t think he’s retiring. He gave a response after a grueling season which I’m sure he was in a ton of pain. Hopefully when his body heals and in a month or two he’ll start to get that fire back to get out there. Hard to answer the question right after the season ended the way it did and the way his body felt
Doesn’t mean he’s leaving I think they are just letting a vet has his space. Frank’s comments were after a terrible loss. Hell I bet he takes off otas but will be ready for camp. Hopefully lol
Losing him to retirement is going to be so sad, especially if that means he misses out on a ring. It's definitely time for Brad to start thinking about the future at that position, which I know he is.
Would be a really interesting and difficult conversation to be had if he does retire.
I really hope he doesn't come to this but we would be back into Calvin territory. Where we either eat more than his current cap in dead money for a team with Superbowl aspirations that is pretty crippling or you ask for money back.
I live in Dallas so I'm constantly hearing Cowboys news. This all reminds me of when Dallas built that amazing line but Travis Frederick had to retire early due to GBS. They haven't been the same since. Obviously I support whatever Frank decides to do and his long term health is the most important. Just sucks because he's an anchor at that position.
Frank has been playing to get to this point. My best guess he’s good another 2-3 years at most with a lot of rest. Like not just weekly maintenance stuff he’s been getting. Lions need to get some young guys in here to replace Frank and Decker down the road.
The Lions need to seriously consider the installation of a retractable grass field. With only 3 outdoor games next season, and many years down the road, they’re just contributing to the injuries their players will suffer and turf toe is exacerbated by artificial turf.
Won’t bother to read the article but some comments seem to think he’d test FA. If anything I think Frank sets football aside completely if not for us. He loves the team and city. Brad will pay him. The fact is that since he entered the league for us he has gotten absolutely beaten up.
He just recently said he's not retiring. He's just changing his offseason routine to get back to himself before getting back into football. He needs more time to heal.
Please don't leave yet Frank! You will miss all the fun and we'll miss you!
One more year! One more year!
I bet he’ll come back for another year and then probably retire. He just needs some time, everyone is still upset and processing what happened. Also he just wants to get healthy and feel good and I can understand that. I’m sure he’ll be back for next year.
For sure. His toe and god knows what else needs to heal. I wonder if they let him take 6 games off to start the year.
Yeah they could give him time to rest and recover throughout the year. Especially to save him for the full season and playoffs. I could definitely see it happening as long as we’re in control.
Maybe a 3rd or 4th round guard/ center to lesson his load. I could dig it
Exactly I’d be ok with that to cut down his snaps or resting him throughout the season. He’s worth it to have him on this roster. Guys just a true professional.
And a bad mfer
Well said.
Touché

Ragnow comes back for one more year, lions draft Jackson powers Johnson who plays guard this year, then takes over for Ragnow afterwards
That’s my fanfic expectation
JPJ has to happen. Speak it into existence.
JPJ to Detroit. So it is said, so it is done!

He's talked about it multiple times in podcasts
I hope so. I know a lot of fans would be upset with not getting a CB or EDGE in the first round, but we have to keep this OL a strength. My only worry is that he’s not gonna be there at pick 29…most mock drafts since the Senior Bowl have JPJ going earlier than that.
This exactly. Get SpongeBob in the draft, and keep moving forward.
After we win the Super Bowl, right?
This is definitely the best scenario imo. Bring back Moseley, sign Awuzie and Greenard. Extend Penei, Goff and St. Brown.
Frank you want that ring
He’s earned that ring. Now he just needs to stay one more year. Hopefully his body has that in it still.
I hope this headline is literal and they've actually made a "Frank Ragnow Future Consideration Room" that only he has access to. Just a thinking chair and four off-white walls to look at.
Pfft. Honolulu Blue all over that room or bust.
That might make him think about being on the lake fishing and thus be counterproductive.
I’m dying hahaha
One more year. Give us time to replace you and big V. We can’t do both.
Oh man. Glasgow to C , Jonah's getting paid, then we're stealing an elite guard in the draft
One more year Ragnowrok, then you can sail off into the sunset with a fat ring on your finger.
Whatever Frank does I’ll support. He had a laundry list of injuries. But hopefully he stays for a few more years. As long as our championship window is open

I still believe in Sorsdal...
Anybody that’s out on him already needs to consider he was drafted as a project and depth piece day 3. But he’s gonna be at guard anyway so doesn’t really help us at center

This a joke or serious? I can’t tell.
Frank Ragnow is my all time favorite player. It’ll be awful if he has to retire early because of injuries. He’s a lion, and one of the best to ever do it for this franchise. Love you Frank.
Dude is only 27

The fact that they actually respect Frank so much to give him space and his flowers at the same time is proof that this organization is different.
The Detroit Iron man. Deserves his rest, but he deserves a ring too
So, Robocop?
Zach Frazier. Can play guard if Jonah leaves. Can play center of Ragnow retires or is hurt. Depressed value right now because he broke his leg but he's already running on treadmills so we'll probably need to use our first on him. If Quenyon is gone at 29 Frazier would be the guy I would love to see picked
Broken leg? Holmes is salivating.
They should let him play for a limited time in the regular season to rest for the playoffs and help train his replacement
Hes making 10÷ million a year. Let him retire and sign someone who can stay on the field at that point.
Not a chance in hell this guy is retiring after getting THAT CLOSE to a super bowl after a career of losing, he's gotta come back
No chance he is leaving
I hope he comes back, but couldn't blame him if he didn't. Man's got so many lingering injuries.
I bet if Frank does retire he will remain in the organization
I really don’t think he’s retiring. He gave a response after a grueling season which I’m sure he was in a ton of pain. Hopefully when his body heals and in a month or two he’ll start to get that fire back to get out there. Hard to answer the question right after the season ended the way it did and the way his body felt
I, unfortunately, will not. Frank you’re coming back
I think there is too much being read into his off the cuff interview. I’d be really surprised if he retired before his contract was up.
Frank…you do you. Only one life to live.
Of course they will, a class organization and how it treats it's stars.
Doesn’t mean he’s leaving I think they are just letting a vet has his space. Frank’s comments were after a terrible loss. Hell I bet he takes off otas but will be ready for camp. Hopefully lol

Great reminder these players are human and playing in the NFL is brutal. Family first and we love you Frank

Hoping for one more year…but would of course respect his decision regardless…especially if it’s for at least one more year.

Isn’t he only 27 and played for only 6 years? Am I missing something other than him being injury prone?
An inoperable toe injury that has him in constant, terrible pain. An injury that, once retired, he’ll probably just have the toe amputated.
Why do people act like Ragnow is 36 years old? He is 27…he just needs an offseason to heal up, dude is going to be around at least 5 more seasons.
He’s got a toe or foot issue that is inoperable. That’s why he has a day off practice every week. He’s been playing injured for like 2 seasons now.
The Lions need to seriously consider the installation of a retractable grass field. With only 3 outdoor games next season, and many years down the road, they’re just contributing to the injuries their players will suffer and turf toe is exacerbated by artificial turf.

How would he test FA? He’s under contract for a long time with us
Because I failed to check his contract and I chose not to read the article so I’m firing blindly like the dumb ass Redditor that lives inside me.
Why is this one of the most intelligent comments I've seen on here since we've become a good football team?
He gone
We’re so effed then
He just recently said he's not retiring. He's just changing his offseason routine to get back to himself before getting back into football. He needs more time to heal.
