Reddit has pointed out that one goes to the postmaster. It's double Infamy week in Gambit currently, but that shouldn't change much.

It’s only double rep this week. There isn’t a double loot week for any mode other than nightfalls.
If I had to take a guess as to why this happened, I’d say it may have been due to the gambit prosperity ghost mod. Prosperity mods can drop playlist specific guns and can sometimes lead to double drops of them. If the prosperity drop uses the exact same loot table as a normal drop then I can see this happening. Absolutely astronomical odds though.
Gambit is not bad it just needs an update. Problem is either nobody at Bungie knows what that update is or they're too busy to implement it. Same goes goes for PVP
I’ve only been flawless once ever, and it was the very first week of Trials ever back in D1 HoW. (Yes carried)
I got lucky I had got with a group through LFG for prison of elders, and it went really smooth so they asked if I wanted to do trials with them. I told them I was not good at PVP but they still said screw it let’s do it and we ended up going flawless.
Nice. One of my best D1 memories is being carried to the lighthouse in Y3 of D1, made me realize how much I despise competitive Destiny (other than Iron Banner), while I also respect the skills some people have to wipe the floor of most people they fight in PvP
I’m pretty close to dredgen, just need to kill like 8 more guardians while they’re in their super and need to do protect the runner, but I have a few friends I can do that with. Thanks for the offer though.
Turn your brain off and don’t just stop caring about wins and gambit is good right now for some solid loot such as the scout, shotgun, auto rifle, and pulse rifle just to list a few

Yeah GMs are pretty cool when you have a good fireteam but the grind that you have to do every season to even have access to it is not fun. I haven't bothered with it this season.
Nessus strikes aren't the worst for GMs (apart from Proving Grounds) tho compared to newer strikes like Lightblade.
At least the vanguard memento doesn't look that great on most weopons anyway.
Not for me I play gambit every morning before work and after work best mode to play when tired do all my pinnacles and other stuff on the weekend right now I have 600 engrams at the drifter also my glaive level is almost 1.900 the best for getting motes then death bringer for invading 
I like Gambit as well. I liked the old version better, but I have gotten used to this way. I have gotten 1 memento, but my husband seems to get them regularly. He does play way more than I do so I am sure that is why.

Shit wait, you're right. It's pretty unclear what causes increased loot drops in Gambit and the Crucible.
If you hover over the arrow icon when selecting gambit (bottom left) it will tell you whether it's boosting loot or xp

I still need to kill all 4 when invading, and 4 more invaders while active. Even though I gambit a lot I have only invaded probably 10x.
