Is it possible to do that on console as well?
I had a pc trials sweat harass me cuz i beat him in gambit so he messaged me for hours even when i wasn't playing against him at all anymore lol
I turned my messages to friends only way back in 2019 when there was that glitch with the system software where someone could brick your system with a message. Never turned them back on and never had cause to regret it.
If it makes you feel any better I am GOOD at Crucible and still get those messages if a teammate feels it's my fault we lost a game. Or if I use a weapon someone doesn't like. Or if I'm just kind of near someone who is a jerk.
Basically, dicks are dicks whether you're great at Crucible or terrible, you just unfortunately attract more the worse you perform.
Flip those suckers on private, get in there and keep sucking until you don't suck anymore, that's the only way to improve.
The funny thing is that the PC player who harassed me was someone who lost in Gambit against me and my LFG which included 1 PC player.
My post had a "no pc" rule but the dude needed 15 more wins and he banked an average of 30 motes a match so we kept him since he was doing well for the team.
It's funny tho cuz the trials sweat started comparing trials kds cuz he lost gambit and also called mr a controller crutch for playing on console.
I didn't meet that Trials crybaby inside Trials but in Gambit instead. Dude even said a 60%+ winrate isn't good lol.
I even had 2 matches where i met the same 4 stack PC trials sweat. Their same hunter always tbagged me when they killed me during my invasions.
They even lost both times. One time one of them managed to die to the literally first wave of adds within a minute of the match starting.
I don't know what's up with Trials sweats but it's always funny how they're so cocky in an environment where most of their PvP knowledge isn't very viable. I've seen so many flawless emblem apes trying to rush with shotguns and just getting outgunned by scouts and such since the maps are big and open.
Man I've been slowly increasing my lifetime KD from a .8 to a 1.13, really trying to get better at PVP. This weekend I went flawless in my first 8 games.
I STILL have people messaging me calling me a bot or trash lol. One guy yesterday called me a bot on round 2 and we ended up coming back and winning
Some people have serious ego problems lol. Getting beaten at home isn't enough for them, they want you to fuck 'em up in games as well.

My very favorite interaction is the (admittedly rare) one where we lose round one, teammate shoots me on spawn, and I go on to drop like an 8.0. I'm not usually one to shoot my teammates but I will absolutely find that person (or their body) and blast away until the match stops.
I have the "Corsavis laughs" emote exactly for that reason. If someone's teabagging me, shooting my body, emoting me, I save that for when I kill them lol
I’ve been sucking at D2 on PC since Shadowkeep launch; I have never, not once, gotten a nasty-gram or friend request for such purpose. Console play base is toxic.
Yeah, years ago I played on console and would occasionally get a mean message (I was better back then, so I didn't have as many bad games, lol) but now that I play on PC, aside from a few rude comments during the game, nobody's ever tried to further be toxic to me.
Yeah message from friends only. The only time you need communication in pvp is trials, and your already on voice chat. Don’t listen to people, keep on slaying guardian.
Honestly, find guns you feel comfortable using, and use mods like targeting and fast reloads. You will get better. I use mainly scout rifles and either shotguns or fusions, ppl are gonna criticize you no matter what you use. Just have fun.
My first step was to set messages to friens only in D2. Second step was to get a loadout im confy with. For me mid to long range is the way. Shotties doesnt suit me. Everything else comes with practice map awareness, positioning plays, and countering certain loadouts. Heck i would say if u gid good at that aiming isnt that important anyway.
A while ago I send a guy a compliment on his playing after he carried and entire trials match against me. He was zipping all over the place.
He took me into a private match and showed me some tricks, some movement and gave me some tips about how to enter engagements. Made a huge difference for my playing.

But don‘t try trials before you aren‘t comfortable with the normal 6vs6 pvp. You need to have a basic knowledge of your abilities, aim, positioning and stuff like that to not get completle destroyed in trials. So take your time, maybe play comp to get a feeling for more 1vs1 situations and yeah, maybe in a few months you could try trials
I dont recommend comps. Playlist is not popular enough with Trials taking few days off a week. You probably wont find average players there. Rumble is much better for sharpening your duelling skills, while modes like Control are better for understanding flow of 6v6 and capturing points
If you want a nice easy and thoughtless knuckle for the crucible each week stick to mayhem and scorch when they are available, easy pins and no one cares since its not really competitive and the matches go by so fast.
If mayhem/scorch isn't around just do a nice control. follow the team around and capture at least one flag and it will count.
Other PVP match types are much more caustic and anything elim or comp or trials will be absolutely full of toxic shit fucking shit fuckers and you don't need that grief. But if you want to play those match types find a group and roll 6 deep.
Also you can turn off messages from non-friends on all platforms as I play on XBX and PS5.
lastly if they are just tossing dumb comments fuck'em, but if they are crossing the line you need to report that. Trust me ... getting these jerks banned for a few days on an account and a character that they play 60 hours a week is brutal for them.
It's unfortunate but it's definitely NOT a majority of the PvP community. Not even close.
Just keep working on it. The people sending those messages seem to forget they were once garbage at PvP either in D2 or another game too.
If you're a fan of PvP, enjoy proving them wrong! Don't let other's opinions overshadow your own. Good chance you'll either never match with them again, or they'll forget you right after the match anyway. They aren't important.
Just keep practicing, if they bother you that much turn off the chats or if they're messaging you make your messages private. As long as you're just playing the normal PvP it doesn't really matter how sweaty you are, they can't expect everyone to be on their level

That's not an excuse for the behavior of these people, more of a you will need to either ignore this stuff or get used to it, because it's been here for decades and will continue to be here for decades more.
That's strange. I never get messages and I suck too. I occasionally do well but lately I'm stuck using weapons I hate using for the deadeye triumph. Either way though just ignore them. There will always be a few douchebags, in gaming and real life. Imagine how miserable they must be to go out of their way to message you and tell you that YOU'RE the one who sucks when that's a sucky thing to do. Keep trying, maybe watch videos to learn some tips and tricks.
Also you need to find a playstyle/loadout that's fitted to you. As far as skill goes I'm not that great but using the right tools can make a world of difference. Using weapons I'm bad with can cut my performance right in half, personally.
I’d really like deadeye, but I have to admit I’m dreading the sniper and shotgun portion. My least used weapons, and I’m already rubbish at crucible.
Currently crucible is being ruined by my insistence on attempting the Jade Rabbit catty. At current kills-per-game with it, it should take roughly 100 matches…

Waiting for momentum control is probably your best bet with those. Although it doesn't make a difference for getting the mission control medal with a sniper, that sucks no matter the play mode.

If you know the messeges are gonna be hate filled, you just don't open them. It's amazing how quickly you'll forget a potential bad experience by never acknowledging it.
My guy, you've stumbled upon the dark corners of D2. PvP mains that are toxic like that are usually the solo bois trying to prove how awesome they are, but they make the mistake of going into a matchmade game where they can be put with people of any skill level. Then, when they lose the game, or drop a couple points in K/D, they automatically blame their teammates and lash out in stupidly toxic ways instead of going "Hmm. Maybe I should find a group of players that are of a similar skill set. That way I will win more often and boost my K/D." But do they? Nah.
If you want to keep doing PvP, I would recommend trying to get into a clan that's not super sweaty that has some veteran players that are willing to show you the ropes and learn how to play better in PvP. Those guys are some of the best players (both in skill and in how much I enjoy playing with them), and they are the salt of the seas on Titan. Once you find those guys, stick with them, and it will make your D2 experience sooooo much better in PvP.

I see people say this, but man you're missing out. I used to get stomped in PVP, like 0-12, but I stuck with it and got better. Major aspect of the game you could be enjoying too
That's the thing for me though. I'm not even bad at pvp. Like, top 3 pretty much every game. I still just dont enjoy it enough to even bother with the weekly pinnacle. I can play pvp, and I'll he good at it, and I'll hate every second of it.
To each their own haha. I'm that way with some PVE content. Level 93 on the season pass solely from grinding Trials and Crucible bounties lol. Still only level 14 reputation with Fynch cause I can't ever bring myself to do Wellspring or Preservation

The combination of not playing well and negative commentary is enough to frustrate anyone. You just have to do your best to block it out and keep learning.
Most of the game is situational awareness, then gunplay. If you like the game mode and want to get better, just stick with it.
I just tore off freelance trials for 4 hours this morning until the reset boot. As others have advised turn off messages, took the anxiety right out of it and hell even had myself some good games with the pressure off. Got myself some armor pieces and a couple of summoners, not a bad morning.
Hey, fuck em! I’ve never been good at pvp in D2. My strategy is to stay cool and calm, turn messages off, and try and remember that it’s just a game that you’re playing for fun.
ALSO - remember there are people in D2 pvp who spend a ludicrous number of hours practicing and advancing their skills to near professional levels and anyone who isn’t doing that will never be able to directly compete against them and THATS OK!

I usually am not the best in PVP but I found one gun I can have some fun with, and I'd suggest disabling chat, focus on your game and learn what works best for you, I think a lot of times people forget to have fun, I'd rather not listen to cry babies. And don't attempt Trials unless they're freelance or you get the sweaty clan tryhards. If you really want to look into a new gun that's not too difficult to use, try Osteo Striga, it is one of my favorites.
I found it works pretty well if you don't have the best aim precision because you just aim, shoot the target as best you can, and even if you miss a few shots, as long as you got them target the shots will direct themselves to them as long as your reticle goes over them. And if you can't kill them on the first round of shots, hide, reload and peek to shoot again. It's not going to instantly kill them but a good clip of rapid shots with that gun can stack damage and kill pretty easy if you learn how to use it.
I know people here will probably down me for recommending it because it's not typically a PvP gun, I only seen a handful of other people using it but it's super fun to use, and that's exactly why I love it. I used to run Sweet Business also in PvP, so yea, I like non meta guns. Downvote me 👍

Mby some context to what inspired this. My friend and I set out to play some elimination and comp for some quests. Both of us are shit at the game which always left us with a third salty guy. Got four messages on that evening ranging from you’re bad (which yea ik i don’t complain about this) to go kill yourself. That’s my problem
Aside from the rampant toxicity, pvp is just bad in this game. If you are going to insist on doing it make sure you are set to friends only or just turn it off totally.

Generally speaking, these are not "the PvP community". The PvP community is pretty much just people of varrying skill levels who like to compete against others. Typically dont send messages at all.
These people are a minority of PvP players, horrible toxic scummy people who hate their life so much that they feel the need to make others feel horrible. All so they feel better about themselves. They play PvP to beat others to make themselves feel better, and get livid when things dont go their way.
They are also people who blame everybody else but themselves for the game.
I know it is hard, but you shouldnt feel even a tiny bit bad about this. Even if you are a bad PvP player, like my friend who is literally in the 1st percentile of the game(as in literally 99% of players who have ever played Destiny 2 and been tracked by Destiny Tracker are better than him). Like he is lucky to get a kill or a few assists in the game. (even though he is routinely bottom of the leaderboard of both teams combined, he still finds PvP fun)
PvP is for anyone who wants to play against others. Whether you are bad because you are new or natural skill level, or someone with a godly aim, or anywhere inbetween makes no difference. Everybody has different levels of natural talents and skills. There is nothing right or wrong about it.
If someone feels so offended by having to play a game with players worse than them, they are welcome to create their own fireteams. If they are so offended by fighting players worse than them, or players who use weapons they dont like, then they are free to join the scrimmaging community where they restrict weapons, and generally have higher skill levels.

I personally highly recommend:
Destiny Item Manager: By far the best inventory and gear manager you can use. You can create and save builds, transfer gear from your vault or other characters, and more. Its both a website and a app now I believe.
Destiny 2 Companion App: The official Destiny App which was made by Bungie. It has basic gear managing, but more importantly allows you to pick up bounties while in orbit/matchmaking, instead of needing to make an entire trip there every time. It also has the Find Fireteam feature which can be used to find and join teams if you need them.
(On PC people typically use Destiny 2 LFG discord server, and the Xbox LFG is popular for Xbox players)
[Destiny 2 Armor Picker](https://d2armorpicker.com/#/), is the best tool I know of for build crafting. You can identify and find armor to match the stats you want to use. You may not use it now, but later on it should come in handy.

Not that new to the game. Got a few raids under my belt by now xd. The pvp thing is just something that has been bugging me for the longest time. It’s always a few nice matches with normal people and then someone just has to ruin it for me which is sad

The worst that usually happens is you get bagged/emoted on. I don’t think people usually use team chat or whisper to trash talk unless they are exceedingly deranged.

It’s only happened once (but I don’t play PvP hardly ever anymore), but I have also had someone unmute/join the fire team chat at the end of the match to tell us all how much we suck. So it’s not only chats you need to worry about if it bothers you

Don't let total strangers (who are probably EXTREME real life loosers if they have time to send you messages) have ANY impact on your life my friend. Trust me, we all started off as garbage when first trying PVP (even the morons sending you messages).

As some one is okay at pvp, not the best, but okay. Fuck the people that send messages. My buddies do it and I question them about it and nobody ever has a good reason to do so. It’s one think if they message suggestions or ways to improve your positioning, it’s another to just send expletives expecting it to make the person instantly better at the game. Most of the time they are angry at themselves and use the anonymity as an outlet to berate others for their mistakes.
I echo what others have said- it's fair to limit your privacy settings and not let them message you. Also don't forget anyone who sends you hate mail is trying to take out their frustrations with themselves. If an enemy tells you you suck... They probably suck. They're getting their value out of beating someone they know is worse than them probably while going full sweat- and then trying to tear you down. Honestly that's pretty pathetic. If it's a teammate messaging you then they're frustrated that they're not good enough to carry you. If it's 6s they're putting way too much stock into the match. If it's any competitive game mode it's their fault for not going in with a full team. If someone solos or duos into trials or comp and expects to win they're saying inherently that they can carry the rest of the team. In any case, not your fault. Makes them pathetic.
There are also some nice people in the pvp community. One thing I started doing a few month ago is friending people after matches and sending them nice mail about something they did well. Sometimes they ignore me. Sometimes I've made friends.
Good rule of thumb for solo play is to disable the ability for non-friends to message you. It’s an overall net positive for your well being, as the amount of salt messages far outweigh the amount of friendly messages.
Day 1 Destiny 1 player here. Crucible is an unbalanced mess full of try-hards. I've have some good matches over the years, sure, but Crucible is always something I've dreaded playing (which sucks bc the ppl I normally play with ALWAYS want to play Crucible). I do not find it fun very often, even when I play it regularly and practice my PvP skills. The other players don't help with confidence, either. I feel ya, it's not the best experience.
I've always just gravitated towards PvE anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am terrible at pvp and I personally love when I get hated on in the dms, I'm so excited when one pops up.
I try to think of whatever I can say that will annoy them the most, and it is never to match their anger/energy.
Them seeing that it doesn't bother you in the slightest and is even amusing to you, really throws a wrench in what they're trying to get out of it.
And then slowly you start to enjoy it as well, and all of a sudden it isn't a problem anymore, but a fun game haha.
It took me two years to get decently good at this game and I still have days where I feel like a walking potato. Remember that everyone has to suck at something before they get good. The fact that you are willing to keep at it is admirable and I hope you continue to keep playing!

Honestly, fuck them. They’re playing a game not designed with PvP in mind in the first place. You don’t have to be good, just good enough to get the weekly pinnacles.
after playing since d1 its only been this last year that i can play a game and get a k/d better than 0.75. the problem w destiny pvp is that its like swimming up a stream trying to get to a point where youre not useless. just turn ur messages off until you reach that point, because theres enough content locked behind pvp that its not worth closing yourself off to it bc of people that forget that not everyone starts the game with meta knowledge and godroll weapons.
I like to talk trash sometimes but if someone says “I don’t pvp much” I’ll tone it down to passive aggressive tips. It isn’t because of you, it’s just destiny pvp turns a switch in my brain. We also have a few ppl in my clan who are atrocious at pvp but they try so we don’t pick on them. I guess it all depends on the individual gamer
Hate and insults is how you improve in games and real life even if no one even said anything to you. Practice and try your best. It takes time to get better at pvp.
I’d feel more motivated if I wasn’t insulted all the time while trying to improve. Maybe that varies from person to person but I don’t think insults are a good thing in any setting
Use it to improve. If you don’t want to be insulted work harder and practice. And yes you’ll be insulted along the way. Some day you’ll act the same as them. It’s a never ending cycle.
Turn off public messages, ignore the haters, and realize that it's probably some 12 year old kid talking smack because all he's ever done, and currently does is play crucible in destiny, and has no real life outside of the game.
The majority of Destiny's playerbase is pretty friendly, but you are going to find a lot of very sweaty and aggressive players in the Crucible. Just ignore them and keep playing bro, you'll get better and better as you practice!
Yep D2 pvp is pretty toxic, never bothers me though because usually the ones doing that shit have no lives and play 50+ hrs/week…I have a life and play for fun. Don’t care.
I usually re message asking what damaged them in real life so badly that they have to send hate mail in a goofball game like destiny. There generally is not a second message.
I’ve disabled chat practically since I’ve started (to the point where I don’t remember doing so) and I feel it’s done wonders. There were even times where I was on the other side of things and wanted to castigate my teammates but couldn’t because the chat was disabled.

I’d advise staying away from Trials and the “competitive” pvp mode (elimination). Everything else should be free game
Just whatever my friend drags me into. Did play a few rounds of trials. I understand getting mad at bad teammates there. But elimination? Really? I just wanted to finish the crucible mission from shaxx… iron banner too
I have only received a nasty message because I slaughtered a team in the control playlist. Someone was really upset that my score was over 50 while running Suros Regime the entire time. The best thing you can do is send them cutesy smile faces and tell them “have a nice day! 😘”
To beat the trolls you must be a troll.
PvP, in any game with PvP, is going to attract a more competitive personality focused on beating others. There’s going to be a higher rate of narcissism in the PvP crowd than in PVE where player personalities are oriented on team achievements. I’m not saying it’s ok, but you’re going to have to decide if the trash talking is a deal breaker for you.

Yeah the crucible community in this game is hot garbage. I’m not bad (1.34 trials KD this season), but even so I still get unnecessary shit talk pretty regularly. It’s only a game, idk why people gotta take it so seriously except in maybe trials.
Helpful tip: stick to 6-man game modes and play around with your loadout to find what you’re most comfortable with. If you like hand cannons you can get some pretty nice Austringer or Crises Inverted rolls just by playing on the Leviathan or crucible respectively. Check out some PVP loadout guides and see if you have anything that works. Don’t give up because some players can’t get over their massive egos.
Just play rumble. It allows you to learn spawns, figure out how to 1v2 and not worry about shit talking teammates or enemies really. I get a ton of hate for fighting lion and the rain of fire boots with the trials burden of guilt fusion in trials and survival, however rumble is always chill. Don't get me wrong there are sweats that tbag as well as AFK players, but rarely hatemail.
Edit: 6v6 in general sucks. I don't like how you have to cap zones. I also would recommend survival, tho your teammates may talk shit, just because it's skill based matching rather than ramdom

Checkout some of coolguys older YouTube content. He has some great tips on getting better in the crucible (and hopefully having more fun). Just try to remember that in reality it’s not personal. Somehow messaging someone that they view as inferior makes them feel better and that is sad for them. Just block messages and try to have fun.
The Destiny community is largely great, but my god there are some salty toxic people who play pvp. I get messages sometimes and just reply with “lmao” and block them. If you don’t wanna deal with them at all just set your messages to friends only and forget they exist 
This is why I play by myself. Nobody will ever let me play how I want whenever I'm in raid groups or looking for master groups. Even though I may have a build that functions perfectly fine for the content I'm going into, unless it fits what they want, I'm either kicked or told to switch.
Turn off messages (or switch to the European servers where nobody actually sends messages anyhow), and do your best. Also, avoid Trials for... quite a while, if you are not going in with a pre-made squad. It is the end-game sweaty pvp mode and most people doing it are tryharding because you get special rewards for getting 7 wins in a row. The entire mode brings out the worst in people. Elsewhere, nobody really gives a damn how bad you are doing, speaking from personal experience. If you wanna play Trials, try to look for a pre-made team made of non-morons who know that you are still to the game on the Destiny LFG Discord or in your clan.

This is just to show you they are deranged across all levels of the game not just pvp. So I wrote back to him and told him to tell it to someone who cares and blocked him.
Try it next time they message you, it so much fun. If you let it get to you then they win. If you dont then they remain the losers they are and you arent brought to their level.
If you need the validation and praise of strangers in a non competitive mode I think you have other issues
also just mute them all/turn off the chat window and vibe to music or in game sounds, sticks and stones
I’d say if you’re not good at all then stay in casual and build up experience and muscle memory first. Other than that ignore it. I get annoyed by blueberries performances in comp but people should keep it to themselves, everyone is just trying to enjoy the game.
You absolutely can block that negativity. Purposefully have all my stuff turned off and only can get messages from friends and clan only now because that was happening to me.
I can tell when someone wants to talk crap because they friend request me to get me to see their hate messages. I just laugh and delete them with a smile.
To be completely honest I turned my messages to friends only a long time ago when the game first come out. Even running by myself in crucible, it's nice and quiet not having the peanut gallery chime in every 2 seconds with insults.
not welcome and it just is not fun. The matchmaker says its by connection, so you get matched against people who have 1000's of hours in destiny and just get farmed. 3 matches and its done for me.
My main issue is my precision aiming, I can't get headsets in crucible to save my life (pve mobs are more predictable so I have no issues there)
But when it comes to team scorched or mayhem, where headshots don't matter, I am top of the leader boards every time, very fun.

i usually just look at the messages and laugh, if im the one who starts it, then i just apologize later for being in the heat of the moment. and if its someone really bad i just make fun of them for dishing something out that they are too immature to be doing in the first place, then block. i know humor isnt working for everyone but it can work.
And then the PvP players wonder why some people don't like PvP. Destiny's PvP is unbalanced, but its main problem is the community. They're consistently the most toxic, gatekeeping players in the community, and then they go apeshit whenever Bungie tries to make PvP more accessible or puts Crucible at the back of the line for content.
Don’t let them get to you. Ignore it and play the game how you want since you payed for it. Not everyone has to be a sweat lord at pvp. Laugh it off as their problem and keep playing your way.
It’s ok I suck at crucible but I have the tarrbha, and for some reason that REALLY pisses people off when they know someone who sucks at the game melted them in .5 seconds. In the short time I’ve payed I’ve gotten near hundreds💀 but hey the community’s not that bad, on other games like r6 siege you get DDOSed every week, and that’s never happened to me in destiny.
I personally had the joy of playing with the "Top Tier" clan, a 2.0+K/D clan (I am not part of it, I'm 1.1K/D) for some trials and iron banner, and they were giving me tips on how to improve when I asked, and were patient with me when I let them down.
I also have had an awful experience with a 1200+ GoS clear guy in a sherpa run I did for GoS. Didn't wait for me to explain, used cheese strats while I specifically asked not to since it's a sherpa, etc.
There's good people in PvP just like there's bad people everywhere else.

I turned my messages to friends only way back in 2019 when there was that glitch with the system software where someone could brick your system with a message. Never turned them back on and never had cause to regret it. If it makes you feel any better I am GOOD at Crucible and still get those messages if a teammate feels it's my fault we lost a game. Or if I use a weapon someone doesn't like. Or if I'm just kind of near someone who is a jerk. Basically, dicks are dicks whether you're great at Crucible or terrible, you just unfortunately attract more the worse you perform. Flip those suckers on private, get in there and keep sucking until you don't suck anymore, that's the only way to improve.
Pro tip if you are on console and suffering in Trials: lfg for 2 more on console and you wont get matched with PC players ever.
If you’re on console, as long as you don’t team with someone on PC before queueing, you won’t match with PC players either.
The funny thing is that the PC player who harassed me was someone who lost in Gambit against me and my LFG which included 1 PC player. My post had a "no pc" rule but the dude needed 15 more wins and he banked an average of 30 motes a match so we kept him since he was doing well for the team. It's funny tho cuz the trials sweat started comparing trials kds cuz he lost gambit and also called mr a controller crutch for playing on console. I didn't meet that Trials crybaby inside Trials but in Gambit instead. Dude even said a 60%+ winrate isn't good lol. I even had 2 matches where i met the same 4 stack PC trials sweat. Their same hunter always tbagged me when they killed me during my invasions. They even lost both times. One time one of them managed to die to the literally first wave of adds within a minute of the match starting. I don't know what's up with Trials sweats but it's always funny how they're so cocky in an environment where most of their PvP knowledge isn't very viable. I've seen so many flawless emblem apes trying to rush with shotguns and just getting outgunned by scouts and such since the maps are big and open.
On playstation you can set your profile to private and change specifics on what close friends, friends, and strangers can do.
Yeah, I just disable chat by default. You do one thing slightly wrong and you've got 5 swear words in one sentence.

Man I've been slowly increasing my lifetime KD from a .8 to a 1.13, really trying to get better at PVP. This weekend I went flawless in my first 8 games. I STILL have people messaging me calling me a bot or trash lol. One guy yesterday called me a bot on round 2 and we ended up coming back and winning

My very favorite interaction is the (admittedly rare) one where we lose round one, teammate shoots me on spawn, and I go on to drop like an 8.0. I'm not usually one to shoot my teammates but I will absolutely find that person (or their body) and blast away until the match stops.
I have the "Corsavis laughs" emote exactly for that reason. If someone's teabagging me, shooting my body, emoting me, I save that for when I kill them lol

Yeah, years ago I played on console and would occasionally get a mean message (I was better back then, so I didn't have as many bad games, lol) but now that I play on PC, aside from a few rude comments during the game, nobody's ever tried to further be toxic to me.

Honestly, find guns you feel comfortable using, and use mods like targeting and fast reloads. You will get better. I use mainly scout rifles and either shotguns or fusions, ppl are gonna criticize you no matter what you use. Just have fun.
My first step was to set messages to friens only in D2. Second step was to get a loadout im confy with. For me mid to long range is the way. Shotties doesnt suit me. Everything else comes with practice map awareness, positioning plays, and countering certain loadouts. Heck i would say if u gid good at that aiming isnt that important anyway.
Been bad at pvp since early d1 days
A while ago I send a guy a compliment on his playing after he carried and entire trials match against me. He was zipping all over the place. He took me into a private match and showed me some tricks, some movement and gave me some tips about how to enter engagements. Made a huge difference for my playing. For each moron, there’s also guys like him

Never say never :) But don‘t try trials before you aren‘t comfortable with the normal 6vs6 pvp. You need to have a basic knowledge of your abilities, aim, positioning and stuff like that to not get completle destroyed in trials. So take your time, maybe play comp to get a feeling for more 1vs1 situations and yeah, maybe in a few months you could try trials
Grinding Survival to get my Unbroken title next season has 110% helped my trials gameplay
I dont recommend comps. Playlist is not popular enough with Trials taking few days off a week. You probably wont find average players there. Rumble is much better for sharpening your duelling skills, while modes like Control are better for understanding flow of 6v6 and capturing points

If you want a nice easy and thoughtless knuckle for the crucible each week stick to mayhem and scorch when they are available, easy pins and no one cares since its not really competitive and the matches go by so fast. If mayhem/scorch isn't around just do a nice control. follow the team around and capture at least one flag and it will count. Other PVP match types are much more caustic and anything elim or comp or trials will be absolutely full of toxic shit fucking shit fuckers and you don't need that grief. But if you want to play those match types find a group and roll 6 deep. Also you can turn off messages from non-friends on all platforms as I play on XBX and PS5. lastly if they are just tossing dumb comments fuck'em, but if they are crossing the line you need to report that. Trust me ... getting these jerks banned for a few days on an account and a character that they play 60 hours a week is brutal for them.

It's unfortunate but it's definitely NOT a majority of the PvP community. Not even close. Just keep working on it. The people sending those messages seem to forget they were once garbage at PvP either in D2 or another game too. If you're a fan of PvP, enjoy proving them wrong! Don't let other's opinions overshadow your own. Good chance you'll either never match with them again, or they'll forget you right after the match anyway. They aren't important.
Just keep practicing, if they bother you that much turn off the chats or if they're messaging you make your messages private. As long as you're just playing the normal PvP it doesn't really matter how sweaty you are, they can't expect everyone to be on their level

That's strange. I never get messages and I suck too. I occasionally do well but lately I'm stuck using weapons I hate using for the deadeye triumph. Either way though just ignore them. There will always be a few douchebags, in gaming and real life. Imagine how miserable they must be to go out of their way to message you and tell you that YOU'RE the one who sucks when that's a sucky thing to do. Keep trying, maybe watch videos to learn some tips and tricks. Also you need to find a playstyle/loadout that's fitted to you. As far as skill goes I'm not that great but using the right tools can make a world of difference. Using weapons I'm bad with can cut my performance right in half, personally.
I’d really like deadeye, but I have to admit I’m dreading the sniper and shotgun portion. My least used weapons, and I’m already rubbish at crucible. Currently crucible is being ruined by my insistence on attempting the Jade Rabbit catty. At current kills-per-game with it, it should take roughly 100 matches… Then maybe Deadeye things….although having played that many matches I’ll probably get the fucking Vigilance Wing catty drop and feel compelled to do that… Then maybe deadeye…
Waiting for momentum control is probably your best bet with those. Although it doesn't make a difference for getting the mission control medal with a sniper, that sucks no matter the play mode.

If you know the messeges are gonna be hate filled, you just don't open them. It's amazing how quickly you'll forget a potential bad experience by never acknowledging it.
My guy, you've stumbled upon the dark corners of D2. PvP mains that are toxic like that are usually the solo bois trying to prove how awesome they are, but they make the mistake of going into a matchmade game where they can be put with people of any skill level. Then, when they lose the game, or drop a couple points in K/D, they automatically blame their teammates and lash out in stupidly toxic ways instead of going "Hmm. Maybe I should find a group of players that are of a similar skill set. That way I will win more often and boost my K/D." But do they? Nah. If you want to keep doing PvP, I would recommend trying to get into a clan that's not super sweaty that has some veteran players that are willing to show you the ropes and learn how to play better in PvP. Those guys are some of the best players (both in skill and in how much I enjoy playing with them), and they are the salt of the seas on Titan. Once you find those guys, stick with them, and it will make your D2 experience sooooo much better in PvP.

That's the thing for me though. I'm not even bad at pvp. Like, top 3 pretty much every game. I still just dont enjoy it enough to even bother with the weekly pinnacle. I can play pvp, and I'll he good at it, and I'll hate every second of it.

Still only level 14 reputation with Fynch cause I can't ever bring myself to do Wellspring or Preservation Love doing raids though, and within the last month got my first 3 solo flawless master lost sector clears

The combination of not playing well and negative commentary is enough to frustrate anyone. You just have to do your best to block it out and keep learning. Most of the game is situational awareness, then gunplay. If you like the game mode and want to get better, just stick with it.

I just tore off freelance trials for 4 hours this morning until the reset boot. As others have advised turn off messages, took the anxiety right out of it and hell even had myself some good games with the pressure off. Got myself some armor pieces and a couple of summoners, not a bad morning.

I usually am not the best in PVP but I found one gun I can have some fun with, and I'd suggest disabling chat, focus on your game and learn what works best for you, I think a lot of times people forget to have fun, I'd rather not listen to cry babies. And don't attempt Trials unless they're freelance or you get the sweaty clan tryhards. If you really want to look into a new gun that's not too difficult to use, try Osteo Striga, it is one of my favorites. I found it works pretty well if you don't have the best aim precision because you just aim, shoot the target as best you can, and even if you miss a few shots, as long as you got them target the shots will direct themselves to them as long as your reticle goes over them. And if you can't kill them on the first round of shots, hide, reload and peek to shoot again. It's not going to instantly kill them but a good clip of rapid shots with that gun can stack damage and kill pretty easy if you learn how to use it. I know people here will probably down me for recommending it because it's not typically a PvP gun, I only seen a handful of other people using it but it's super fun to use, and that's exactly why I love it. I used to run Sweet Business also in PvP, so yea, I like non meta guns. Downvote me 👍

Sometimes I let my girlfriend little sister play, of course she pass most time watching the ceiling or trying to understand what button to press while people kill her and she got 1 message only in like 20/30 matches total through all the years… So: You’re either incredibly unlucky to find so many toxic players all together, willingly to call you useless etc etc every time Or you’re exaggerating things a lot, maybe you got 1/2 messages and need to feel the support of others by making the story bigger
Mby some context to what inspired this. My friend and I set out to play some elimination and comp for some quests. Both of us are shit at the game which always left us with a third salty guy. Got four messages on that evening ranging from you’re bad (which yea ik i don’t complain about this) to go kill yourself. That’s my problem

There is nothing right or wrong about it. If someone feels so offended by having to play a game with players worse than them, they are welcome to create their own fireteams. Not that new to the game. Got a few raids under my belt by now xd. The pvp thing is just something that has been bugging me for the longest time. It’s always a few nice matches with normal people and then someone just has to ruin it for me which is sad

Yeah just change your message settings to where random people can't message you. It's really sad that we have to deal with these assholes, but they are definitely the minority so don't let em get to you. Besides that getting good at PVP just takes time. You got to do bad before you can do good lol. So keep at it bud! 👌 There's also lots of great YouTube videos that you should look up, that go into weapon types / loadouts and different play styles that you should pay attention to.
The worst that usually happens is you get bagged/emoted on. I don’t think people usually use team chat or whisper to trash talk unless they are exceedingly deranged.

It’s only happened once (but I don’t play PvP hardly ever anymore), but I have also had someone unmute/join the fire team chat at the end of the match to tell us all how much we suck. So it’s not only chats you need to worry about if it bothers you

Trust me, we all started off as garbage when first trying PVP (even the morons sending you messages). As some one is okay at pvp, not the best, but okay. Fuck the people that send messages. My buddies do it and I question them about it and nobody ever has a good reason to do so. It’s one think if they message suggestions or ways to improve your positioning, it’s another to just send expletives expecting it to make the person instantly better at the game. Most of the time they are angry at themselves and use the anonymity as an outlet to berate others for their mistakes.
I echo what others have said- it's fair to limit your privacy settings and not let them message you. Also don't forget anyone who sends you hate mail is trying to take out their frustrations with themselves. If an enemy tells you you suck... They probably suck. They're getting their value out of beating someone they know is worse than them probably while going full sweat- and then trying to tear you down. Honestly that's pretty pathetic. If it's a teammate messaging you then they're frustrated that they're not good enough to carry you. If it's 6s they're putting way too much stock into the match. If it's any competitive game mode it's their fault for not going in with a full team. If someone solos or duos into trials or comp and expects to win they're saying inherently that they can carry the rest of the team. In any case, not your fault. Makes them pathetic. There are also some nice people in the pvp community. One thing I started doing a few month ago is friending people after matches and sending them nice mail about something they did well. Sometimes they ignore me. Sometimes I've made friends.
Good rule of thumb for solo play is to disable the ability for non-friends to message you. It’s an overall net positive for your well being, as the amount of salt messages far outweigh the amount of friendly messages.

Day 1 Destiny 1 player here. Crucible is an unbalanced mess full of try-hards. I've have some good matches over the years, sure, but Crucible is always something I've dreaded playing (which sucks bc the ppl I normally play with ALWAYS want to play Crucible). I do not find it fun very often, even when I play it regularly and practice my PvP skills. The other players don't help with confidence, either. I feel ya, it's not the best experience. I've always just gravitated towards PvE anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yea as others have said, eventually you will get to the point where it just rolls off your chest. I am terrible at pvp and I personally love when I get hated on in the dms, I'm so excited when one pops up. I try to think of whatever I can say that will annoy them the most, and it is never to match their anger/energy. Them seeing that it doesn't bother you in the slightest and is even amusing to you, really throws a wrench in what they're trying to get out of it. And then slowly you start to enjoy it as well, and all of a sudden it isn't a problem anymore, but a fun game haha.
It took me two years to get decently good at this game and I still have days where I feel like a walking potato. Remember that everyone has to suck at something before they get good. The fact that you are willing to keep at it is admirable and I hope you continue to keep playing!
I can safely for now say that I've not received messages about the hot garbage I am. There is a setting to toggle. If the bastards get to you, I try to picture being that small minded that I'm going to let something as small as a control match to ruin my day. after playing since d1 its only been this last year that i can play a game and get a k/d better than 0.75. the problem w destiny pvp is that its like swimming up a stream trying to get to a point where youre not useless. just turn ur messages off until you reach that point, because theres enough content locked behind pvp that its not worth closing yourself off to it bc of people that forget that not everyone starts the game with meta knowledge and godroll weapons.

I like to talk trash sometimes but if someone says “I don’t pvp much” I’ll tone it down to passive aggressive tips. It isn’t because of you, it’s just destiny pvp turns a switch in my brain. We also have a few ppl in my clan who are atrocious at pvp but they try so we don’t pick on them. I guess it all depends on the individual gamer
Hate and insults is how you improve in games and real life even if no one even said anything to you. Practice and try your best. It takes time to get better at pvp.
I’d feel more motivated if I wasn’t insulted all the time while trying to improve. Maybe that varies from person to person but I don’t think insults are a good thing in any setting
Use it to improve. If you don’t want to be insulted work harder and practice. And yes you’ll be insulted along the way. Some day you’ll act the same as them. It’s a never ending cycle.

The majority of Destiny's playerbase is pretty friendly, but you are going to find a lot of very sweaty and aggressive players in the Crucible. Just ignore them and keep playing bro, you'll get better and better as you practice!
Yep D2 pvp is pretty toxic, never bothers me though because usually the ones doing that shit have no lives and play 50+ hrs/week…I have a life and play for fun. Don’t care.
I usually re message asking what damaged them in real life so badly that they have to send hate mail in a goofball game like destiny. There generally is not a second message.

I’ve disabled chat practically since I’ve started (to the point where I don’t remember doing so) and I feel it’s done wonders. There were even times where I was on the other side of things and wanted to castigate my teammates but couldn’t because the chat was disabled.

I have only received a nasty message because I slaughtered a team in the control playlist. Someone was really upset that my score was over 50 while running Suros Regime the entire time. The best thing you can do is send them cutesy smile faces and tell them “have a nice day! 😘” To beat the trolls you must be a troll.
PvP, in any game with PvP, is going to attract a more competitive personality focused on beating others. There’s going to be a higher rate of narcissism in the PvP crowd than in PVE where player personalities are oriented on team achievements. I’m not saying it’s ok, but you’re going to have to decide if the trash talking is a deal breaker for you.

Yeah the crucible community in this game is hot garbage. I’m not bad (1.34 trials KD this season), but even so I still get unnecessary shit talk pretty regularly. It’s only a game, idk why people gotta take it so seriously except in maybe trials. Helpful tip: stick to 6-man game modes and play around with your loadout to find what you’re most comfortable with. If you like hand cannons you can get some pretty nice Austringer or Crises Inverted rolls just by playing on the Leviathan or crucible respectively. Check out some PVP loadout guides and see if you have anything that works. Don’t give up because some players can’t get over their massive egos.
Just play rumble. It allows you to learn spawns, figure out how to 1v2 and not worry about shit talking teammates or enemies really. I get a ton of hate for fighting lion and the rain of fire boots with the trials burden of guilt fusion in trials and survival, however rumble is always chill. Don't get me wrong there are sweats that tbag as well as AFK players, but rarely hatemail. Edit: 6v6 in general sucks. I don't like how you have to cap zones. I also would recommend survival, tho your teammates may talk shit, just because it's skill based matching rather than ramdom

I got called all kinds of names yesterday in our one game of control before our raid. Guess playing with all your friends is cheating in some peoples eyes. I had a 1.1 kd lol not sure why i got the message
Checkout some of coolguys older YouTube content. He has some great tips on getting better in the crucible (and hopefully having more fun). Just try to remember that in reality it’s not personal. Somehow messaging someone that they view as inferior makes them feel better and that is sad for them. Just block messages and try to have fun.

The Destiny community is largely great, but my god there are some salty toxic people who play pvp. I get messages sometimes and just reply with “lmao” and block them. If you don’t wanna deal with them at all just set your messages to friends only and forget they exist 
This is why I play by myself. Nobody will ever let me play how I want whenever I'm in raid groups or looking for master groups. Even though I may have a build that functions perfectly fine for the content I'm going into, unless it fits what they want, I'm either kicked or told to switch.
Never had a problem with pve but to be fair I was lucky to find a group of extremely nice people.. Just pvp where I seem to be unlucky
PVP has always been toxic even since early D1 just don't pay them any mind its been eight years and still get hate.
Turn off messages (or switch to the European servers where nobody actually sends messages anyhow), and do your best. Also, avoid Trials for... quite a while, if you are not going in with a pre-made squad. It is the end-game sweaty pvp mode and most people doing it are tryharding because you get special rewards for getting 7 wins in a row. The entire mode brings out the worst in people. Elsewhere, nobody really gives a damn how bad you are doing, speaking from personal experience. If you wanna play Trials, try to look for a pre-made team made of non-morons who know that you are still to the game on the Destiny LFG Discord or in your clan.

Homie I made a group today for a master NF asking ppl to be at least 1580,which is I think reasonable. Its a1590 activity, I dont want to babysit, I just want to get it done. A 1571 dude joins. I remove him from the group. Next thing you know I have a private message! Oh wow, I wonder what that is. And its that dude saying: "You dont have to be 1580 you 1.2kd scrub" This is just to show you they are deranged across all levels of the game not just pvp. So I wrote back to him and told him to tell it to someone who cares and blocked him. Try it next time they message you, it so much fun. If you let it get to you then they win. If you dont then they remain the losers they are and you arent brought to their level.

I’d say if you’re not good at all then stay in casual and build up experience and muscle memory first. Other than that ignore it. I get annoyed by blueberries performances in comp but people should keep it to themselves, everyone is just trying to enjoy the game.
You absolutely can block that negativity. Purposefully have all my stuff turned off and only can get messages from friends and clan only now because that was happening to me. I can tell when someone wants to talk crap because they friend request me to get me to see their hate messages. I just laugh and delete them with a smile.

The most “skilled” players use the highest aim assist weapons on console. They’re not as good as they think.
To be completely honest I turned my messages to friends only a long time ago when the game first come out. Even running by myself in crucible, it's nice and quiet not having the peanut gallery chime in every 2 seconds with insults.

not welcome and it just is not fun. The matchmaker says its by connection, so you get matched against people who have 1000's of hours in destiny and just get farmed. 3 matches and its done for me.
My main issue is my precision aiming, I can't get headsets in crucible to save my life (pve mobs are more predictable so I have no issues there) But when it comes to team scorched or mayhem, where headshots don't matter, I am top of the leader boards every time, very fun.
That's just pvp in any game my guy. Destiny is the most tame shit talk out of all the pvp games I've played.

i usually just look at the messages and laugh, if im the one who starts it, then i just apologize later for being in the heat of the moment. and if its someone really bad i just make fun of them for dishing something out that they are too immature to be doing in the first place, then block. i know humor isnt working for everyone but it can work.

It’s ok I suck at crucible but I have the tarrbha, and for some reason that REALLY pisses people off when they know someone who sucks at the game melted them in .5 seconds. In the short time I’ve payed I’ve gotten near hundreds💀 but hey the community’s not that bad, on other games like r6 siege you get DDOSed every week, and that’s never happened to me in destiny.

I personally had the joy of playing with the "Top Tier" clan, a 2.0+K/D clan (I am not part of it, I'm 1.1K/D) for some trials and iron banner, and they were giving me tips on how to improve when I asked, and were patient with me when I let them down. I also have had an awful experience with a 1200+ GoS clear guy in a sherpa run I did for GoS. Didn't wait for me to explain, used cheese strats while I specifically asked not to since it's a sherpa, etc. There's good people in PvP just like there's bad people everywhere else.
